Ch 32: Objectives
Gladion's POV
The moment I woke up my phone rang. I groaned. 'Who the hell is calling at this hour?' I reached for my phone and answered, not looking at the name on the screen.
"What?" I grumbled.
"Woke you up kid?" I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
"What do you want Old Man?" I asked annoyed.
"Well look who woke up on the wrong side of the bed." He said.
"Stop dodging the arrow and tell me what you want." I hissed.
"You seem to like throwing stuff." He commented.
"If it means I can get you to spit out whatever you want to say, then yes, I do like throwing stuff. Actually I have one of your niece's daggers, waiting to be thrown at the first person who pisses me off." I threatened.
"Geez, you really are lacking sleep. That job I sent you to do during the night really affected ya." He said.
"Stop talking like your fucking grunts and tell me what you want already or I'll hang up." I growled.
"I need you to get some supplies" He said.
"Your beer?" I asked sarcastically.
"I don't drink that much kid. I mean supplies that will bring us some dough. This time you will go alone, that should bring you some happiness, if you even feel such feeling that is." He said. I clenched my phone.
"Diana is busy killing males or something?" I asked.
"Something like that. I won't tell you what she really is doing. Just for today, you are alone." He said and hung up. I looked at my phone for a bit before I placed it down.
"What the hell is she doing?" I asked myself but shook it off, getting up from the bed. I walked up to the small kitchen provided in my motel and made myself some coffee. As I turned with my finished coffee, Null nudged me. Thankfully I had my hands secured on the cup or I would have spilled it over Null and that wouldn't have been pretty.
"Null be careful, I almost spilled coffee on you. What do yo want now?" I said. He tilted his head towards the fridge. I sighed.
"Really Null?" I asked unamused. He huffed and started doing a reck around the room. I growled and slammed my coffee on the counter. I grabbed his Pokéball and called him back. Of course it took me a few attempts to actually get him in, but he finally gave up. I looked at the Premium Pokéball with narrowed eyes.
"Here is the deal, I will feed you if you don't reck the motel. This isn't even ours, so stay put and I'll give you all the Star Candy and Malasadas you want. Deal?" I said. I really didn't expect an answer from him, given the fact he was currently in the Pokémon. I called him back out and he looked at me and then turned, walking over to his usual corner and sitting. I shook my head and got the Malasadas out of the fridge and the Star Candy out of the cabinet, which was locked.
-TIME SKIP-
I managed to get out of the police men's view, but I still wasn't safe. I looked around, trying to figure a way out of this alley with no exit.
"There!" I heard one say behind me. I clicked my tongue. 'Why is this so fucking difficult?!' I thought. I examined the brick wall in front of me. It was too tall for Null to jump over so that option is out of reach. 'The next question is, what would you do if you are stuck in a dead end with only a rock and rope?' I heard my younger self ask. 'Wait, that question. It's similar to this situation. What was the answer?' I asked myself. It suddenly came to me. I took out the dagger I had in my pocket and then cut some rope from the sack I held.
I heard the running steps of the police getting nearer and nearer. Without loosing time, I quickly tied it to the dagger. I looked over my head and saw one of those emergency exit metal ladders. I took the rope in my hands and started making momentum until the cicle was fast enough. I waiting a few seconds before I threw it upwards, aiming where I wanted it to go. The weight of the dagger permitted the rope to make enough loops around the metal ladder to secure it. I pulled on the rope and the metal ladder came down.
I ran up and climbed it, getting the rope un-looped off the metal step of the ladder. I untied the dagger, placed it back in my pouch, pulled the emergency ladder up, just in time before the police came and looked my way.
"Sorry gentlemen but you can't outsmart Stupid Paranoia." I said and threw the sack over my shoulder before climbing up the ladders.
"We will get you!" One growled from behind me. I smirked and continued my climb.
I managed to get on top of the building. I looked down, seeing they weren't there anymore. 'I can't get too confident that they actually left the area.' I thought. I took off my hoodie-which I had placed on at the start of this job-and turned, walking towards the other edge of the building. I looked down once again, not seeing them.
"They can't have possibly given up." I said and then looked at the distance between this building and the other. I am not the best to make calculations but I was pretty sure I could jump that distance. I breathed in and took some steps backwards. I clenched the sack just before I ran and jumped over the alley.
When I landed, I rolled over the stone roof before I hit an air vent. I groaned and rubbed my back, trying to mitigate the pain. My landing wasn't perfect but I at least didn't die. I forced myself up.
"This would have been a bit easier with Diana here." I said to myself and then facepalmed. 'Have I actually started to depend on her? Tch, that landing must have messed with my head somehow.' I thought. I sighed and turned but immediately jerked back. My emerald green eyes clashed with deep purple hues.
"What are you doing up on the roof?" It was Jonathan. 'What the hell is he doing here?' I asked myself. I regained my posture and narrowed my eyes towards him.
"I could ask you the same thing." I said. He crossed his arms.
"You Aether's really love avoiding questions." He said. I glared at him.
"How do you know-"
"As I said, I know everything about you. No I'm not a stalker, but I am your protector." He said. I looked at him. He practically was wearing the same thing he was wearing at the district. A black, long-sleeve shirt under a dark green worn out t-shirt with ripped blue jeans and combat boots. Brown leather fingerless gloves with emerald green accents were on his hands and a silver bracelet with two weird charms, an 'L' charm, and a 'J' charm on his right wrist.
'That looks like actual silver, meaning that he either stole or...got it from someone.' I thought while eyeing the bracelet more. My eyes widen slightly, recognizing what those weird charms really were. 'Those are the symbols of Lugia and Ho-Oh the legendary Pokémon of Johto. Is this guy from there?' I asked myself.
"No I didn't steal." He said. I looked at him.
"You're from Johto." I said, not really making it a question. He clicked his tongue.
"No." He hissed and then walked over to the other edge of of the building, looking down. "I'm surprised you even got away. Diana wouldn't have done something as reckless as that, but I give you points for that improvised dagger-tie-rope-thing you did." He said. I rolled my eyes.
"Stupid Paranoia gave me a lot of survival tips." I muttered. He hummed knowingly and turned to me.
"Come on, there is a way down from the building." He said while gesturing me to follow him.
"Wait, I never said I needed your help and I don't trust people who know my last name, for all I know, you may turn me into the police." I said defensively. He muttered something under his breath in a language I didn't recognize. He looked at me with an arched eyebrow.
"I could have done so a long time ago and still haven't. As I said, I'm your protector. Now, unless you want to jump over to the next building continuously until you reach one you can go down from, I suggest you go down the easier way which is doing down this vent." He said while kicking the vent open.
"I won't go unless you tell me your last name." I said, my plan being that he wouldn't tell me his last name, making it so I wouldn't have to go. He sighed and rubbed his temple, obviously annoyed.
"The stubbornness runs in the family I see, not including Lillie." He said and stayed silent for a moment before turning and getting ready to go down the vent. "Alcaric." He said finally and went down the vent. I stood there for a few seconds before sighing and going down the vent myself. 'I lost that round.'
I went down with a rapid speed, sliding down on a bumpy road. I looked down, now seeing the light at the end of the vent. It blinded me for a brief moment but it was enough to take me by surprise what came next. I landed on a pile of old clothes and rolled until I hit the wall. Dust filled the air, making me cough.
"You should ask Diana to help you with your landing or I can teach you how." I looked up, seeing Jonathan looking down at me with his purple eyes.
"Yeah as if she is so helpful." I said while forcing myself up. 'I will surely be sore tomorrow.' I thought while rubbing my back.
"You don't know her as much as I do. Well to be honest, I don't know her that well, but I know her enough to know that she can surprise you. If you are on her good side she won't kill you. I would be dead by now actually if I weren't her 'friend.'" He said.
"How long have you known her for?" I asked.
"As long as she has been in Team Skull, so for about six years." He replied.
"Do you know where she is now?" I suddenly asked. He shook his head.
"She runs off to Arceus knows where. Why? Worried for her or something?" He said, a smirk on his face.
"Pfft, as if. I don't care what she does, as long as it doesn't include me and a dagger through my heart." I said. I heard footsteps on the polished floor we were standing on right now.
"Oh, hey Diana." He said with a small wave. I turned, seeing not Diana but Lina. I looked back at Jonathan with a glare.
"Got you." He said with a wink. I growled.
"Stop tormenting him." She said. He frowned.
"What are you doing here, I told you to go to Akala." He said with a slight scold.
"She will be fine, J. Strength is in the genetics of the Aether's." She said carefree of everything. It is really ticking me off that they know my last name and that any minute now they can use that to their advantage. I looked at the time in my phone and saw that I was suppose to be back in Team Skull.
"Unfortunately I will have to cut this reunion short, so later." I said and turned my heel with the sack over my shoulder.
"Say 'hi' to Diana from us!" Lina called after me.
"Try not to get killed while you are going back to Ula'Ula, only because I'm your protector doesn't mean I can just be Arceus and appear from thin air as your knight in shining armor." I heard Jonathan yell after me. I clicked my tongue. 'I have been taking care of myself for years, I think I can handle my way back to Ula'Ula.' I thought.
"Also, try not to worry too much of Diana!"
Diana's POV
I sneezed. 'I haven't even been too long on water, and yet just a tiny portion just made me sneeze, great.' I thought not at all amused. I then saw in the distance Poni Island in its mighty glory.
"Lapras, can you stop where there aren't many people?" I asked as I pointed towards a specific place. He eyed me curiously but flapped his fins to turn away from the docks. I let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks." I murmured with a small smile.
We arrived at a shore surrounded by the many rock formations. I mounted off from Lapras's back and took some sand in my hand, letting it be taken by the wind. I turned and looked at the Water-Type Pokémon.
"That will be it for now Lapras, I will call you if I need anything else. For now, you can go off and do whatever you want." I said. He nodded and swam away. As soon as his figure was way over the horizon I turned my attention to the rocks again. 'If I remember correctly, there should be a trap door around here that will lead me near the location of the International Police base.' I thought. I walked along the edge of the shore, kicking some pebbles here and there.
'What is the plan exactly that Miss.Lusamine has in mind?' I asked myself. The wind blew again making me looked at the ocean, it's waves moving with the wind towards Exeggutor Island. I stopped and looked at the island in the distance.
'Now thinking about it, would Exeggutor Island be the fifth island illustrated by the book? It can't be since the island illustrated is far more bigger than Exeggutor Island and all the rest of the islands for that matter. I might not be an expert in this science stuff but I am sure such a big island can't just sink to the bottom of the ocean, much less, disappear.' I thought. I was so deep in thought that I didn't even notice the tide rising. I flinched and stepped backwards, not really liking being so near the waves of the shore.
"I need to find that trap door before it gets covered by water." I told myself. When me and Rotom went out to map the tunnels, we noticed that this one and another one not far from here get covered by the high tide. Water would run down into the tunnels for a long way until it finally couldn't reach out.
I noticed the handle sticking out from the sand. I let out a small sigh of relief. 'Came just in time but I shouldn't linger or it will be flooded soon, and there won't be anyone who would save me this time.' I though while walking over and opening up the trap door. Some sand fell down but I didn't really mind. I stepped down and started to make my way down the ladder, closing the trap door behind me.
Pitch blackness was all my silver eyes could see, which I really didn't mind. Not seeing actually made my senses sharper for danger. Once my venture down the ladder was over, I started walking down the tunnel until I came across a clearing with more tunnels leading to different destinations.
'I wonder if this is how Arceus sees our choices, multiple tunnels that arch into multiple directions with different futures. Tunnels that you couldn't go back through anymore once you made your choice.'
I shook my head. 'I always do this, make my mind drift while I need to do something important.' I thought with annoyance. I took the one to the right of the middle one, lighting a small match with the tunnel's walls. I took one of the touches on the walls and placed the match inside, lighting the tunnel.
"This kinda symbolizes that we still find light with our worst choice." I said with a small chuckle. I walked down the tunnel, trying my best to recall all the twists and turns of the these tunnels.
After what felt like hours, I finally come across the clearing with four tunnels, the ones I had been searching for about and hour now. I went down the second one on the left and went down until I saw the ladder. I blew off the touch and placed it on the nearest torch holder.
I climbed the ladder as far as I could before I hit my head with the trap door. I glared at it before hitting it open with my elbow. I winced a bit, seeing that the trap door was more shut than what I anticipated. I growled to myself and came out from the darkness of the tunnel. I found myself near Poni Canyon. I closed the trap door shut and looked around, seeing no one.
"This is the least inhabited island in all Alola apart from Exeggutor." I commented to myself. I turned and covered the trapdoor with the dirt once more. I clapped my hands to get rid of the dirt and turned, planning my way towards the base.
"I should have planned it while in the tunnels but there really isn't any rush." I said.
"Talking with yourself, huh?" I quickly got out my dagger and was ready to pin it to whoever just jumped me until I saw the one responsible right in front of me. 'Hapu?' I placed back my dagger and gave her a small glare.
"You shouldn't really jump people." I said bluntly. She placed her hands on her hips.
"What are you doing here, Ice Assassin?" She asked, narrowing her eye towards me.
"Ohh nothing much, just planing on breaking into something." I said with a smirk.
"You know I can call the police and they can send you to where you belong, right?" She asked.
"You can, but your little attempt will be futile. I have escaped the police many times and I am not going to get caught now. Don't worry though, I'm not planning on doing anything to your island in particular. I am just searching for something." I said and went passed her.
"You know, there is a boy out there that has been fighting versus Team Skull. He is strong and I know that he will go against your leader and put an end to your little trouble making gang." She said. She must be talking about Sun. I turned to her.
"That is if he manages to defeat me in a battle." I said and walked off towards where my objective was.
