Mission Cancelled - A SaiRat OS

Hi friends,

I am back with another SaiRat OS and I hope you all like it. Thank you so much to all those who supported my last OS through your valuable votes and comments. They meant so much to me.

This ended up too long but I don't want to part it. Hence posted as a single update. I hope you don't mind the length.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Virat is not a good police officer. A good police officer would never giggle like a girl and say 'Wow' when an officer informs him about his mission been canceled. He wants to bang his head repeatedly on the room wall for his stupidity but controlled himself since that room being DIG's office room and the officer who told the information is DIG himself. In fact, he must be the first stupid topper ever! He mumbled a quick apology and sat straight.

DIG sir looked at him with uncertain eyes.

"Are you okay, ACP Virat Chavan?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"Of course sir! Fit and fine" he replied firmly.

"Are you sure about it? Do your head scan results look fine?" DIG sir pushed.

"But Sir, I got shot in the chest." He clarified and wondered whether DIG sir become too old to not even remember his injury. But thinking it as the head is too much. Who would be alive after getting shot in the head?

"I know you were shot in the chest but what if you had hurt your head too when you had fallen?" DIG sir suggested.

Could it be true? He blinked and shook his head to clear. When DIG sir looked at him with inquiring eyes, he shook his head firmly.

"No, sir. My head is absolutely fine. No need to worry." He answered briskly.

"But still ACP Chavan, you should not have joined the mission so soon." DIG sir said gently.

"Sir, we had a talk and you gave me permission to work" he told the sir and saw his face becoming visibly stern.

"I gave permission you to join back in the duty, not to lead any encounter missions with guns and all." DIG sir declared authoritatively and he winced.

"You are not fully recovered yet. I spoke with our higher officials and they had postponed your duty joining date. Please take more rest" DIG sir's voice is gentle again. Is he suffering from multiple personality disorder?

"Thank you, sir. But that was unnecessary. I am perfectly fine." he tried to convince sir. Convincing him for what? That he doesn't know. He needs to stop proving his health status and go to his pretty wife waiting at his home instead.

"If your claim is true, would you be able to go on a secret mission right away? There is one long awaiting mission which needed your immediate attention" DIG sir asked him suddenly and he blinked. Another Mission? He facepalmed – internally of course. He deserves this for not running away to his home on the first chance he got. Why everyone is hell-bent on separating him from his wife? He cannot go on a mission now. His mind is already set that he is going to spend tonight with Sai. His heart cannot take all these sudden changes. He could not even back out after all the 'I am healthy and always job worthy' talk.

"So are you ready to accept this mission?" DIG sir asked and he nodded without thinking.

"ACP Virat" sir's stern voice snapped him back to reality.

"Yes, sir!" he declared sitting straight, and DIG sir smiled at him. Why is he smiling? Is he playing a prank on him? Wow! That's sounds good. Oh god! Let it be a prank! Let it be a prank! It's okay even if everyone laughs at him, he just wants to go back to his Sai.

Sir opened his table drawer and took a white envelope out. Once done peeping into it to check the contents, he held it out to him.

"Your mission details" Sir informed while handing it over to him. His world shattered. Was that not a prank? Why sir is not fun at all?

He opened it and found a flight ticket inside. Oh no! This too is going to be in out of the station. Why these culprits always go into hiding in other cities? Can't they just find a godown or jungle area here itself? It's like they are insulting their city. There are so many places to hide here... he even has a list of good hiding places in and around the city. His thoughts came to a sudden halt when he saw the names listed on the ticket. They are 'Mr Virat Chavan and Mrs Sai Joshi Chavan'.

He got confused and looked up at him. Did they want his Sai to participate in this secret mission? But she doesn't have any experience and cannot lie or act at all. She may be a topper in studies. But, if they ever conduct an interview for the job of underground operation executive, she would fail miserably and cry like a baby. Oh, my poor baby!

"Sir... this ticket says 'Sai Joshi Chavan?'" he drawled.

"Yes, that ticket is for you both." Sir gave a quick nod. Maybe the secret mission needs a couple in disguise? But that can be done with any department lady officer. Why they have to endanger his wife? He cannot involve his wife in any risky mission. But, how could he tell that to DIG sir? He doesn't want to disobey a direct order from a higher official and moreover, sir seems to have already planned the whole mission. His phone lighted upon receiving a text and his selfie with Sai appeared. Sai smiled looking at him and his heart ached in despair. He can go to thousands of missions anticipating death, but could not take two steps forward with the thought of her being in any danger. He clenched his fingers determinedly and took a deep calming sigh. Only it is not calming enough. This is going to be the first time he will be going against DIG orders. Sir is signing some papers now.

"Sir... If you don't mind, can I suggest something?" he started hesitantly.

"Shoot" he said in a neutral tone without looking up.

"Can I take some policewoman from the department instead for this?" He asked in a neutral tone too since his real tone is shivering now and DIG sir doesn't need to hear that. Sir lifted his head so fast that he jerked a little backward in his seat. Sir is no longer signing but looking at him with a raised eyebrow. He panicked - Internally, of course. There was an awkward pause and he doesn't like it. Did he say anything wrong? Oh yeah! He could not simply suggest a change in the operation without giving any proper reason.

"Someone more experienced?" He added a suggestion and waited impatiently for his response. He had placed all his hopes on DIG sir's reasoning ability.

Sir sat straight and placed his pen on the file. Folding his hands, he gave a quick sigh. His posture screamed 'You are dead now'. He felt his hope shattered like a window glass hit by a cricket ball.

"Are you asking me to send a woman police officer with you instead of your wife to your honeymoon trip, ACP Virat Chavan?" Sir asked in such a stern voice that he started shivering – internally of course.

His mind is blank. What sir told him exactly and why does he need to use such a long sentence? Can't he just scold him with simple words as Sai does always? Is he an English professor? Anyone else in his place would have felt lost, but by god's grace, this UPSC topper has a very good memory.

He calmly replayed DIG sir's words and got confused more. Honeymoon trip? He gulped and quickly took a glance at the ticket papers, sure enough, the destination written in block letters is 'Coimbatore International Airport'. According to his topper knowledge, the honeymoon destination nearby said the airport is the queen of hills 'Ooty'. Wow! He could not help but smile widely at the realization. This must be very expensive. He felt very happy that DIG sir cared for him and Sai to present such a costly one.

He looked upon hearing a throat-clearing sound and his smile immediately vanished seeing DIG sir's poker face. He could not understand why sir is looking at him seriously after giving him such a wonderful gift.

"And that too a more experienced one?" DIG sir's strict voice brought him back from his thoughts and he immediately grimaced on realizing how the words he had spoken unknowingly must have sounded to sir. He prayed to God to send him straight to hell than sitting before DIG sir who is not saying anything but looking sternly at him. However, that look is enough to make any terrorist confess his crime and he is no exception. He found his mouth running on its own the next second.

"No sir... please don't send any woman officer... sorry sir... I don't want any experienced policewoman... I mean I don't need any policewoman or any woman at all. I will go alone to my honeymoon, sir." He finished his blabbering but the damage is already done.

It felt like time stopped running. Sir is looking at him with questioning eyes and he is afraid even to blink. He could hear the second-hand sound coming from the wall clock. He felt the sweat flowing from his hairline towards the south and wondered who dared to switch off the AC in the DIG room. AC? Bloody hell! Why he is behaving like a teenage son who had been caught red-handed by a strict father? He is ACP Virat Chavan for heaven's sake. He straightened his position and looked back at DIG sir with a resolved face.

"Sorry for the confusion sir... I thought it was some actual mission and hence asked for an officer as mission partner instead of my wife. I hope you don't doubt my intentions." He explained clearly.

"No issues." DIG sir nodded at him with a smile. Sir smiled! Hurray! He is saved. He sighed in relief.

"Sir, about this?" He asked DIG sir slowly indicating the envelope in his hand.

"Oh, yeah. That is my wedding gift to you and your wife Sai. Sorry, it was late. You know about our job. I planned to present this earlier itself, but could not find the right time." Sir told him still smiling.

"But sir, this is not needed. Your blessings are enough for us." He said for formality hoping that the DIG sir would not take it back on his realistic refusal act. Oh god! Please let sir insist once more and he will run away with the tickets. Honeymoon! The name itself is so sweet that his mouth already started watering. Why he had not thought of this brilliant idea before? What's the use of being a topper? He knows about the queen of hills but didn't think of taking his queen there.

"No, please accept it. It's my order. I told my family about you and Sai. They all love her and want to see her. In fact, I thought of inviting you both to our house for dinner and presenting you with this gift. But an emergency meeting sprung up and I could not postpone it. I hope you don't mind" Sir said kindly.

"Absolutely not, sir. Thank you very much! Please convey my gratitude to your family" he agreed, almost falling off his seat with excitement. Finally going to be alone with his wifey!

"Sure. Your flight is tomorrow." DIG sir's words sounded like a heart soothing melody and he gave a short nod in response. Tomorrow? Is he ready for this so soon? Who was he kidding? He is ready 24/7.

"If that is all, you may leave now. See you after a week." Sir nodded towards the door and he got up from the seat. One whole week? Wow! He is going to die in happiness. He saluted and turned to leave the room when sir called him again.

"I talked with medical college principal and he agreed to sanction a week leave for Sai" Sir told and he felt like banging his head on the thickest stone wall he could find in the city. He is a complete idiot to forget about the college part. Knowing Sai, she would have never agreed to take leave on her own and he felt grateful to DIG sir for fixing this major problem. He nodded thankfully at his sir and started walking towards the door.

"I hope I don't have to ask for more leaves in few months" He heard Sir's murmurs and stumbled on his foot. He caught himself from falling face front on the door and turned back with a sheepish smile.

"Be careful, ACP. Safety is priority!" Sir said in an amused tone with a sparkle in his eyes and he nodded quickly before dashing out of the room.

He walked out of the office and breathed peacefully. How Sai manages to talk casually to DIG sir is still a mystery to him! Sai! He smiled thinking about her. He opened the envelope and traced her name on the ticket. It said – Sai Joshi Chavan. He could not help but smile at her surname. She belongs to him. How lucky he is? Okay, he doesn't have enough time to ponder about his luck. He needs to convey about this trip to Sai, Aai, and other family members.

He drove fast since he cannot wait till evening to inform her about this happy news. He needs to talk with her before she goes to college and then only he can pack their clothes peacefully. Otherwise, there is a high chance of him dying in anticipation.

When he reached his home, he ran quickly inside only to stumble in his steps because of a tragic sight. This time he didn't even try to catch himself and hence fell on the ground with a thud. He felt pain on his shoulder but ignored it and looked up again wishing this is just a nightmare.

Everyone looked at him and gasped but he is concerned only about the person who is kneeling on the floor and weeping like a child. Aai, Mohit, and Usha Mausi were sitting with her and trying to console her. He glanced around at others who all had the same shocking look. When his eyes met Pakhi's frightening eyes, she came running towards him. Without looking at her face, he stopped her from touching him when she tried to help him stand. His heart knows that she must be the one who caused Sai's misery somehow. He looked up at wailing Sai again and found the reason lying across the table. He boiled in anger and it shot up when Pakhi insisted on him again. He gave her a death glare and she moved back instantly with a terrified look. If looks could kill, he is sure that Pakhi would be lying next to him dead.

His murderous thoughts got interrupted by heavy sobs. He turned back and his heart ached to see his wife in agony. Without getting up, he started crawling towards his fallen queen. All her memories of before marriage started flashing on his mind and it ended with her lying on the hospital bed. He shivered at that image. He saw her crying like this only when her father died and what followed has scarred him for life. When he could not see her in sorrow then, how could he manage now? He prayed to God to give him the strength to manage his broken wife. He went near her and all the three kind souls moved backward giving them space. He got up slowly and knelt before her.

Her eyes are closed but tears are running like a waterfall. She is chanting something like a mantra. He was so engrossed in her tears before that he didn't notice what she was saying.

"I do not know how to live in a joint family" she recited like a mad person. He could not control more and cupped her face joining their forehead.

"Virat sir" she gasped and her cries stopped immediately. He peered at her and found her eyes still closed. Could she feel his touch?

"Am I dreaming?" she asked in an uncertain voice. He smiled sadly. Only she could make him smile even in a dire situation.

"I wish" he whispered and saw her lips tremble.

She placed her hands above his as if she wants to feel him to make sure of his presence. He gave more pressure on her cheeks and she opened her eyes slowly. Her eyes looked red and he had the sudden urge the slap Pakhi repeatedly until her cheeks match in color with Sai's eyes.

"Virat sir, you came back?" she asked in a hopeful voice. Her eyes sparkled. He loved her reaction to his presence. He would have given anything and everything to stay in this intimate position happily inside their bedroom, but this harassment needed immediate attention.

Controlling all his emotions, he moved his face away from her and she pouted right away. How can they torture this cute face? Have all his family members gone blind? He tried to remove his hands from her cheeks, but could not do so since her hands are clutching them tightly. He doesn't want to cause her any more worry and hence left as it is.

"Sai..." he called her and she hummed in response.

"Be truthful and say what exactly is running in your mind now?" he demanded and her cheeks instantly matched her eyes. But he could not analyze more since she averted her eyes. Is she blushing? He could not help but smile at his cute wife.

"Okay tell me what was running in your mind before I came?" he rephrased his question and her shy smile instantly vanished. She looked back at him and he missed seeing her blushed cheeks. Her eyes are sad now and she pouted. But this pout is not looking cute anymore but gloomy.

He decided to push her further to speak and hence started removing his hands. She got panicked and clutched them tighter with her hands. She shook a no at him.

"Then, tell me." He demanded again.

"I do not know how to live in a joint family" she stammered closing her eyes. A lone tear escaped her eye and touched his finger. Its hotness burned him inwardly.

"No need for you to know, because..." he started whispering and she opened her eyes immediately. She removed her hands in shock and then her face became total blank suddenly. She angrily got up from the floor and started moving away from him. He is not even surprised. He knows her very well to know that she must have taken his words wrongly. She must have felt that he is telling no need because he doesn't think of her as a member of this big joint family.

"Sai' he called out to her retreating figure and she stopped at once. He slowly got up from the floor and stood upright. He glanced around and found all looking at them confused. He decided to ignore them and focus on Sai.

"Listen to me fully at least before you run away from me" he pleaded Sai and noticed her closing both the fists to control her emotions. When he got silent in response, he walked towards her slowly. Once he reached her, he twirled her around to face him and smiled at her.

"No need for you to know... because we are moving out" as soon as he finished his sentence, he heard multiple gasps all around the hall.

"Virat sir..." she started but he placed his finger on her lips shutting her. Her eyes are wide but no longer red. That is enough for him.

"Virat! What are you saying? You do not know what Sai did... " Kaku stopped talking when he held out his palm. He turned around and looked at everyone.

"No need to know anything. We had enough. I am moving out with my wife. That's final and no one can stop me" he declared in a loud authoritative voice. Everyone looked terrified. No one dares to speak but...

"Virat..." Pakhi started but then stopped on seeing him sending daggers to her side and kept mum.

"If you don't want me to book you all in a mental harassment case, close your venomous mouth now and never open again in front of me" he warned in general and all got panicked.

"Don't give empty threats, Virat." His Baba taunted.

"No empty threats. I have fixed secret cameras in the hall and have enough footage to cage you all" he lied smoothly and everyone visibly panicked. Their eyes started to roam all over the hall searching the non-existing hidden cameras. He laughed at their stupidity – internally of course.

"So, for the sake of your welfare, stop troubling us" he ended and turned towards Sai. She is standing in confusion.

He took out his phone and started dialing his office number. He started talking immediately once it is answered.

"Constable Sharma, please make the government allotted quarters ready for me today. I am going to move in there with my wife." He gave orders on the phone.

"Please send me the address detail on WhatsApp. See you there evening" he added and cut the call. He went near to Sai and pulled her towards Aai.

"I am sorry Aai for not saving you from these wolves before. But, I want to save Sai on time, at least" he said apologetically and she nodded back at him with understanding.

He hesitated a little but then decided to ask anyway. After all, he could not live without his Aai.

"Will you come with us, Aai?" he asked and his Aai cried hugging them together. After a few seconds, she pulled away and nodded happily. He wiped her tears and started instructing her.

"Aai, pack all of our bags and be ready in the evening. I will send you the car. Please come along with Usha Mausi. We will be waiting for you in our new home" Mausi and Aai smiled at them. Sai still looked like she is in some trance.

Before leaving, he turned towards Mohit and his brother gave him a slight nod. He nodded back and they smiled softly together.

Dragging Sai along, he came out and boarded the car. He drove fast without saying anything and Sai was silent too. He stopped in front of the lake from their first date and took a deep sigh. To find peace, he closed his eyes and started enjoying the breeze.

"Ouch!" he shrieked in pain and turned left to find Sai pinching him hard in his left cheek. He glared at her but she pouted cutely. Yes, her cuteness-filled pout is back!

"I was just checking whether it's all a dream" she told him innocently blinking her eyes.

"You are the second stupid topper ever! You should pinch yourself to check whether it's a dream, not the others" he said gritting his teeth.

"Oh yeah!" she face-palmed and he could not help but roll his eyes.

"But who is the first stupid topper then?" she asked and he blinked.

"Not important." He dismissed.

"I am afraid to pinch myself. Will you do it please, Virat sir?" she showed her right cheek to him and closed her eyes.

What was she made of? Can't she see the hunger in his eyes? It's like deer asking a cheetah to check for a mole in its neck! She is not a baby and he is not her Aaba.

"Come on... quickly, Virat sir" she pleaded in a sweet tone and he lost it fully.

He quickly bite her cheek and moved back. Her scent intoxicated him and he doesn't want to linger there any more than few seconds to avoid the consequences. Being a police officer, it would be embarrassing to face a public nuisance case.

His thoughts are interrupted by a loud shriek and he closed his ears using both hands.

"It is real!" he heard her and turned to see her smiling brightly at him. He thought she is going to fight with him for the bite, but it seems she is too happy to worry about the pain.

He smiled at her back and she placed her head on his shoulder. He closed his eyes and felt peace now. It's not in the free air. It is with his wife.

"I wish we would stay like this forever! What do you think, Virat sir?" she said happily. Forever? Just half an hour out of the house and she already confessed indirectly. Why he didn't leave that damn house earlier?

"Virat sir!" she nudged him. Oh! What was her question again? He used his topper brain to replay the question.

"Not enough for me. I have many things planned out already." He complained.

"What?" she asked uncertainly. She removed her head off his shoulders and looked at him worried.

"Don't worry! I will take care of everything. You just have to do only one thing." He assured her.

"What should I do?" she asked confused.

He held her hand and placed the envelope there.

"Go to honeymoon with me tomorrow, Mrs. Sai Joshi Chavan" he said shyly. She looked down at the envelope first and then at his face. Her cheeks slowly redden on realization and he remembered how much he missed those lovely blushed cheeks.

Oh lord! How is he going to control himself till he reaches Ooty?

How was it? Please let me know your feedback below. Thanks in advance and sorry if this was not entertaining enough.
