(Chapter 4-Sweaty Palms)

Was she looking at her? Why would she be looking at her? Sapphire laughed at the thought. She wanted the thought out of her head. It was just a hopeful thought, she wouldn't be looking at her.

Sapphire stepped into the hot shower, the warm water heating her cool skin. She wanted the silly thought out of her head. So as she ran shampoo through her long hair, she started singing a tuneless song. It helped calm her down and keep her from thinking of the short girl.

I mean, its obscured! Someone as popular as- No, don't think of her name. If Sapphire thought her name it would just make her think more of her cute freckled face and her adorable poof- STOP!

Sapphire turned the shower off abruptly. Stepping into the sharp cool air the bathroom brought. She grabbed her towel and wrapped it around her quickly. She ran a brush through her thick hair. Trying to fix it before she left the bathroom. She brushed her bangs parting them slightly. She looked into the mirror, fixated on her reflection.

A shudder ran up her spin, how could anyone have a crush on this? She pushed her hair back quickly not thinking about it anymore. Why couldn't she think of anything else? Why is the cute girl in the library the only thing dancing in her thoughts. She wanted nothing to do with her the hour before. Now as she stands in her room shoving on a nightgown no one else can replace the thought.

Sleep? Would that help? Maybe. At least that way it would be the next wensday, and then it would be one day close to the weekend. So, clearly there would be no issue if she slept. So that's what she did. She laid in her bed.

She could feel the soft cotton of her fluffy blanket. She wrapped it closer around her skin, blocking out the cold air of her bedroom. She could get up and turn on the heat, but her poor dad would melt.

She fluttered her eyes closed. The silence and darkness consumed her. Leaving only her thoughts. And as her mind floated away, she could only dream of the small brunette girl.

Ruby felt a sandpaper like tongue run up her cheek. "Lion," she moaned pushing her fluffy white/ peach cat off of her. She glanced over at her alarm clock. It read 5am. She groaned out again. "I still have an hour you dumb cat!" She curled her body back into a fetal position. There was a small weight at the end of the bed.

Small cat feet pattered up the side of the bed Ruby wasn't on. Lion plopped his butt right in front of Ruby's face. Ruby inhaled and instead of air, got a mouthful if cat hair. She shot up and spit and sputtered.

"Fine, fine, I'm up ya little ball of fur," Ruby said standing. She shuffled over to her on suit. She pulled the door open, her eyes barely open. Lion was following close on her heels. Ruby turned the shower on letting the water warm up. She grabbed a towel and sat it on the toilet. She jumped in the hot water.

The water softened her curly afro. Giving her chance to feel it without its normal poofy-ness. She quickly ran some shampoo over her hair. And soap along her stout body. She rinsed all the soap off and shut the water off. She stepped out on the fuzzy bathroom mat. Her muscles tensed at the cold air the bathroom brought. She wrapped her towel around her. Wasting no time drying her body off.

She tied the towel across her chest. Sliding out if the foggy bathroom, flicking the fan on as she left. Her bedroom was warmer than the bathroom (she liked the heat up high) so she dropped the towel. She wandered over to the closest pushing her clothing over and back.

Ruby got out a pair of jeans and a maroon and black shirt. She pulled it on over her. Ruby looked at her through her her full length mirror. Her jeans just fit over her wide hips showing off her curves. The shirt did less to show off her body. Not that there was much to show up there. It's was baggy but looked cute when tucked slightly in her pants. She pulled socks on her feet and went to the bathroom.

She turned the fan off and looked through the slightly damp mirror. She grabbed a brush and, with struggle, attempted to run it through her hair. Of course it never really worked, it just made it frizzy. She sighed and threw it back on the counter. It smacked against it with clatter. She reached into her top drawer and grabbed her red ribbon. She pushed it around her hair, keeping the frizz away from her eyes, and tied it.

She walked out of the bathroom, "So lion what do you think?" She asked her laying ((lion ;), god I'm sorry)) cat. He just meowed, hissed and flopped to the other side.

"Ah, screw you too, fatty," Ruby said sticking her tongue out. She scooped up her backpack and tossed it down the stairs in front of her. She stopped down after it, making the wooden stairs creak under her weight. She could hear her moan mom in her bedroom, probably complaining about how loud Ruby was being. Ruby didn't care, if she had to be up this early, her parents had to deal.

She could hear her dad snoring from the basement. Ruby sighed, he made so much noise. She shuffled to the door of the basement, and jumped as hard as she could outside of it. It shook the house and made a earth shattering noise. Ruby laughed hearing her mom yell from her room. Ruby ignored it and went to make dinner. She glanced at the clock on the stove. "Only 6:15?! Ugh, I hate you cat!" She grumbled pulling a box of cereal out of the pantry. She tossed it onto the breakfast bar, along with a spoon, bowl and milk. She ate fast and shoved some random snacks into her backpack and hopped onto the couch. She flipped through channels watching whatever came on.

"Thanks as always, Peridot," Sapphire said smoothing out her light aqua croptop. Peridot nodded pulling out of Sapphire's driveway.

"Of course, what else what I'd do in the morning?" Peridot asked smirking softly. Sapphire smiled back. "So," Peridot paused, "have a good evening?" Sapphire thought about her night. All her thoughts, how she was over analizing a single glance.

Sapphire shook her head,"Yes. It was fine." She crossed her legs, ajusting her white-washed jeanes accordingly. Sapphire looked over at Peridot, she had here eyebrows crunched. "What?" Sapphire asked the girl. Peridot relaxed her face.

"You don't seem fine," She said clutching the steering wheel tighter. Sapphire asked what she meant. "You-you're just normally more spacey. Like you're always thinking of the future, but you've seemed very -how do I put it- here," Peridot said, the visibal part of her hand going white.

Sapphire smiled, "You know me too well." Peridot licked her lips, nodding. They sat in akward silence for the rest of ride there. Sapphire checked this time whether or not Jasper's gang was outside in the cool air. They weren't which Sapphire thanked the lords for. They stepped out of the car, it was warmer today. Still chilly enough for a sweater, but not cold that she needed it zipped. Sapphire and Peridot walked into school, Peridot's metal bottoms on her boots clanging againts the tile flooring of the school. No one looked at them, no one noticed.

Well one person looked.

Or two people?

Amethyst turned her head when Ruby's snapped back. Amethyst looked at the tall (compared to her) girl wearing all green and black. She smirked. Standing next to her was the short girl no one saw. Unless it was poke fun at her. She seemed to be dressing a little more reveling than normal, with a croptop and low white jeans (which Ruby couldn't help but take in). "What are you looking at?" Amethyst asked Ruby leaning against the locker.

She turned red, "No one! The-the metal sound caught my attention!"

Amethyst snorted, "did it now?"

"Of course!" She slammed her locker having her bag in hand. "What about you? You seemed to stare a bit longer." Ruby asked the girl.

Amethyst turned a slight pink and stuck her tounge out. "I was looking at the one with blue hair's ass, like damn."

"WHA-" Ruby cut herself off when she relized Amethyst was joking, turning ever more red. Amethyst bursted out laughing. "Ah, fuck you," Ruby said stomping off. Amethyst followed her wheezing, calling after her.

Sapphire's eyes glanced at the stomping red girl, and the one following after her. Sapphire smirked and shut her locked gently. A tall pale girl slide up next to her and Peridot. "Hello, dears!" She smiled.

"Angel," Peridot and Sapphire muttured. She giggled lightly.

"You seem annoyed with something. Likely me, and I can respect that. But I just wanted to ask if Peridot was invited to Pearl's party." Angel asked leaning over Peridot's shoulder.

"Why would I be invited?"

"You and Lapis are tight. And Lapis and Pearl get along well. As well as you're other little friend, Cinna, she seems to be getting pretty close to Milky. So I was just beinf courius. I want to be there, mostly because I want to get my ships started. So if I do, better be careful when I choose you," She smiled, spinning and strutting off.

"She's so nice and fun. Why must she bug me? I want to be a ball of angry and hell rage." Peridot sighed. Sapphire giggled. Peridot winked. "You ready?" She asked ready to ascort her to her class.

"Yep," Sapphire smiled. She and Peridot walked over to Sapphire's first class. They didn't say much, which was fine. Peridot was busy texting, who? Sapphire didn't know, she's not one to be nosey. They stopped outside, Peridot waved and walked off, hunched back and all.

Sapphire turned. She walked into her classroom. There was Ruby, sitting in her seat, talking to her girlfriend. Emerald running her mouth, and Ruby resting her face on her hand, a bored expression on her face. Her eyes brighted at the blue-haired girl as she slid in. Her eyes followed Sapphire's every move. The bell rang and Miss. Sardonyx ran in clapping.

"In your groups children!"

Did I meantion yet that Peridot is the size she would be if she still had her enhancers? Because even though she's be small in reality, I just kinda always liked bigger her in the human AU. AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THIS IS MY BOOK NYHAHAHAHA!!!! Ya...bah!
