44 | The Family Debut
❛You're really pretty ❜
It was time for a vacation. Actually, it was time for Blair Sprouse to take a vacation. She had spent so many hours learning dance moves to Descendants 2 and had lost her voice three times recording song after song. But finally, it was time for a one month break before the acting truly began.
Tom had been waiting for her to celebrate time off ever since their conversation one month ago. He had prepared his dog, Tessa, for the big day by giving her a tough bath and getting her hair trimmed. Today was the day Blair Sprouse met the Holland family.
It was a day that would go down in history.
Tom leaned down and pat Tessa's head, "Alright, girl," he smiled. "Let's go meet Mabel."
Tessa barked and Tom laughed. He retreated to the kitchen to grab the leash and he clipped it onto Tessa'a collar while walking out the door with her trotting along. "You're going to love her," he told the dog as they loaded into the car.
"She'a the most beautiful woman, Tess. Her hair is really gorgeous and her eyes," he swooned, "Oh, her eyes, Tess! She's amazing!"
Tessa listened intently while Tom rambled on about his girlfriend. He talked for nearly a half hour since the drive to the airport was quite that.
When they got to the gate where the amazing Blair awaited, Tessa barked again in excitement. She wanted to know what all the fuss was about the girl her owner was so in love with.
As people cleared out of the way in the airport, Tom's heart began to race faster. He straightened his collar and ran a hand through his hair to try and make himself look absolutely perfect for the most perfect girl and Tessa caught on to his racing heart. She was growing more and more excited by the second.
"Mabel!" Tom called out through the mass amount of people. Tessa lifted her head and noticed a girl shining in a crowd of dull people. She barked again and tried to run forward but Tom's grip on the leash prevented it. "Thomas!" Mabel cade back as she approached the duo with a bright smile.
She reached Tom and she giggled as he pulled her into a hug. She put her suitcase down next to her feet as he dipped her down a bit and kissed her as if he hadn't seen her in a year. She melted into his touch and would have been able to stay just like that for eternity if not for Tessa barking again to disrupt the two. Mabel gasped, "Hello!" she said enthusiastically as she ruffled behind Tessa's ears. The dog panted happily as this stranger gave her hugs and adoration and Tom chuckled, "She gets so much attention."
Mabel stood up and pecked Tom on the lips, "I'm excited to be here with you," she smiled. Tom grinned, "I'm happy you took my offer. How was your flight?"
Tom picked up Mabel's suitcase as they walked hand in hand and she held Tessa's leash in the other. They talked about her flight and her rehearsals, and then about what she wanted to do in London.
They talked the whole way to Tom's parents house while Tessa slept in the backseat. Blair was undoubtedly nervous to meet Tom's family. She didn't know if she looked okay since she just spent fourteen hours on an airplane or if she needed to put on more perfume but Tom had assured her that she looked perfect as always and his family would love her as much as he did.
Once they had reached the front door of the Holland's, Blair took a step backward and shook her head. "I can't do this, Tom," she whispered under her breath while preparing to turn around. Tom sighed and grabbed her wrist and tugged her into his chest. He looked down at the girl who was now gripping his polo and he smiled softly, "They are going to love you, Mabe."
Blair tugged away from Tom, "And what if they don't, Thomas?" she questioned. "This is your family! If they hate me then we'll never have a chance."
"They aren't going to hate you. Paddy has already been wanting to meet you. He's gone through your Instagram countless times! And if Harry and Sam say something then I'll just point out that their love lives have hit, like, a million trees and are driving recklessly all over the place! And my parents were the ones who asked to meet you, so you don't need to worry about them."
Blair stared into Tom's brown eyes and sighed, "You're right."
"Yeah?"
She nodded and ran a hand through her hair, "Yeah, I-I was just overreacting. Sorry," she apologized. "I packed my medicine in my suitcase and didn't take it on the plane last night," she explained. As she looked around, everything seemed out of place. The flower pot wasn't perpendicular with the corner of the house, and the welcome mat was crooked. All these thoughts filled her head and she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"My mum has water and you can take your medicine inside, yeah?"
Blair nodded and watched as Tom grabbed her medicine from her suitcase before handing it to the girl who shoved it in her purse. Them the two of them walked inside.
Blair was immediately welcomed by the aroma of spaghetti and meatballs. Sitting on the couch in the family room where they walked in was the youngest Holland slouched on the couch watching Iron Man 1 with his feet kicked up on the coffee table. When he looked up at the sound of feet on the carpet, his eyes lit up and he rushed to shut the television off and scramble to his feet.
"Tom!"
Tom gave his younger brother a high five before Paddy looked up at Blair in complete awe. "Wow," he smiled, "You're really pretty."
Blair giggled, "Uh, thank you! You're very handsome!"
Paddy grinned and held out his hand and Blair accepted the gesture and shook it, "And a charmer. Tom should be careful," she laughed. Paddy smiled while Tom simply glared at Blair and wrapped his arm around her to pull her closer. "Okay, let's go meet the others."
They walked to the kitchen together and Paddy piped up, "Is Tom annoying with you?"
Blair smirked, "Just a little," she responded with a smile pointed at Tom. He rolled his eyes and scoffed, "You're one to talk," he refuted with a proud smile. Blair gawked, "Wow, Spider-Man! Not getting a lot of points here."
Tom laughed and kissed Blair on the cheek, "I already have so many."
She rolled her eyes at his cockiness and focused on the room she had just entered. There sat Harry and Sam at the kitchen table and Tom's parents at the stove finishing the tomato sauce. "We're here," Tom announced to the group as they stood interrupted for a moment. Nikki turned around quickly and smiled, "Welcome!" she said eagerly to Blair before engulfing her in a hug. "You're so gorgeous! Dom, isn't she gorgeous?"
Dom nodded, "Beautiful."
Blair blushed and looked down in embarrassment. "That's so sweet," she smiled. "I, uh, I love your home! And thank you so much for inviting me!"
Nikki held Blair's hands and beamed, "Oh the pleasure is all mine, love. Come sit."
Blair followed Nikki's suggestion after giving a hug to Dom and shaking hands with the other two siblings. She sat next to Tom at the dinner table and gripped his hand tight and he gave her a reassuring squeeze before handing her a glass of water to take with her one pill.
The entire dinner went smoothly. She made jokes with the Holland boys and talked intently with the parents. They seemed to love her just as much as Tom had said and by the end of dinner, she felt incredibly at home with his family.
Toward the end of the night, Blair had finally convinced Nikki to let her help clean up so the boys all went to the porch to talk. Sam lounged in a patio chair and punched Tom in the arm. "You are so in love," he teased his older brother. Tom rolled his eyes, "Shut up, div."
Harry grinned, "You are! Who would have thought it would be you first?"
Paddy narrowed his eyes at his older brothers, "At least he found love. You wouldn't know what it was if it was written on a car and hit you on the road."
Harry was taken aback, "We were just joking, Padster. No need to get all worked up."
"I like her," Paddy defended. "Let Tom be in love, alright?"
Tom smiled and patted his youngest brother on the shoulder, "Thanks, Padster."
The entire night was a dream.
Just like Tom had said.
Dedication
This chapter is dedicated to Cameron Boyce. I don't often do these celebrity dedications for those who passed away because they don't hold a special place in my heart but Cameron Boyce was a phenomenal actor. I understand I will never see him on television anymore unless it is a rerun and that whenever I watch Jessie or Descendants I will be watching someone who is no longer with us. Cameron will forever be missed. He was my favorite VK from Descendants and one of my favorite Ross kids from Jessie. It hurts to know that all the Disney stars from my generation have lost a friend, but they will be able to move on and dedicate performances to him. Cameron is an angel. May he forever rest in peace.
