Season 1: It is nearly impossible to travel between realms. Don't even bother trying. It took Rumple centuries to do it. Dark curses are the only way to do it and those take year and years and only Regina can cast it.
Season 2: It's still pretty hard to travel between realms, but if you happen to fall through a portal or have a magic bean, then you'll be fine.
Season 3: It's still not easy, but magic beans are pretty cool. If you have a magical flying boat then you're all set! Dark Curses are no longer very hard to make, even Snow White can do it, and it's totally normal for the saviour and the local pirate to fall through the odd portal to the enchanted forest of the past, no big deal, they'll be back later with only minor damage to the timeline!
Season 4: Guys, just walk through a door and it's off to Arendelle!! Also, if we write in a magic book, we can travel to another dimension ooooooohhhhhh!!!
Season 5: So, we were thinking of taking a weekend getaway to Camelot, wanna come with? No? Okay, well what about hell, we're going there too. Oh, no, it's not hard at all! We'll just take a flying Granny's with us to Camelot and then a boat of death conjured by Gold's blood to hell! Traveling between realms is so easy, guys you don't understand!!
