Chapter 5__Venomous
Yesterday, Derek had been trapped at the school pools with Stiles. And he figured out what the hell it was that killed Isaac's and my father and almost killed me.
It was called a kanima. Erica had said it looked like a snake with legs and a tail. Derek said it had venom that paralyzed people from the neck down.
We had two suspects who we thought the kanima was. Lydia Martin and Jackson Whittemore.
Jackson had used to live across the street from me and Isaac, and was partially why we were fugitives, because he had told Sheriff Stilinski that he saw us fighting and how he saw Dad shove me into the car the night he died, chasing after Isaac, and no one other than Isaac, Erica, Derek, Boyd and Scott had seen me since.
Erica was getting Jackson now. When she came down with him, Isaac instantly went to help hold him back. I knew Isaac hated the kanima, whoever it was, because of it killing Dad and almost killing me.
We both wanted it dead. Didn't matter who it was.
"What happened to you on the night of the full moon?" Derek asked Jackson without looking up.
"What?" Jackson asked breathlessly. "Nothing. Nothing happened."
Derek looked up to him. "You're lying."
He reached to his sides, pulling on gloves as Jackson said, "Wait. Wait. I can prove it. I taped myself."
Isaac chuckled with surprise. "You taped yourself?"
Jackson looked at him as he answered, "Yes. It was the full moon. And maybe while you were crying in the corner having an existensial crisis about turning into a monster, I was waiting for the so-called gift your big-bad Alpha promised me. And what do I get? Nothing. You want proof? Let me get the video."
Derek shook his head. "No. No." He held up a piece of broken glass from a mirror for Jackson to see, and I walked away from Isaac's side to stand behind Jackson. "I have a better idea."
"What is that?" Jackson asked as I stood directly behind him.
I kicked one of his knees, making it bend and making him kneel to the ground as Erica and Isaac held either of his arms. I took either side of his head, one of my hands on the back of his head, gripping his hair and one underneath his chin as Derek stood, walking closer.
"You know, Jackson," Derek said, "you've always been kind of a snake. And everyone knows that a snake can't be poisoned by its own venom."
He stepped even closer, Erica and Isaac gripped his arms tighter while I pulled his head back farther, allowing Derek to hold the piece of broken mirror over his mouth, letting the clear venom droplet drip into his mouth.
I let go of his head, Erica and Isaac letting go of his arms as we back away next to Derek, watching Jackson fall the rest of the way to the ground, freezing as the paralyzer spread.
Isaac and I looked toward Derek as he looked back toward us, then back to Jackson with an annoyed sigh.
Walking closer and kneeling next to Jackson, Derek said, "You're still a snake, Jackson. Just not the one we're looking for."
Standing up and walking past us, Erica followed him as Isaac and I looked at each other. We both nodded, walking closer to Jackson.
We didn't want to be here every single minute of every single day.
I leaned down next to Jackson, Isaac right next to me, both of us tilting our heads.
"You're still gonna have to do one more thing for us," I told him. I chuckled, looking up to Isaac, and he looked back up at me with a smirk. "Well, actually, for Isaac and me."
I smirked as I stood up and walked away, allowing Isaac to tell him exactly what we wanted on his own.
And the next day, we were in school together.
We heard Stiles and Scott behind us.
"I just talked to my dad, who just talked to Jackson, and I've got really terrible, horrible, very, very bad news," Stiles told Scott.
"I think I already know," Scott replied.
Isaac and I shared a look, smirking in front of them, but not turning to face them, and even though we weren't, we knew they were looking toward us.
After class, I walked with Isaac down the hall, and I turned to him. "So Derek wants this done during chemistry?"
"Yeah," Isaac answered. "And if it's Lydia, I'm gonna kill that bitch. All right?"
"We have to test her first," I told him.
"Well, the kanima did almost kill you and did kill our father." I looked away, remembering that night. "Hey. Natalie." I looked back at him finally, and he shook his head. "You don't have to be worried or scared about anything. Not anymore. Okay?"
I hesitated, then nodded with a small smile. He was right. I was a werewolf now. Stronger, faster, hotter, better in every way. "Yeah."
"Yeah?"
I nodded again, both of us smiling before the bell rang and we headed separate ways for our next classes.
Second period passed, and not onto thire--chemistry with Mr Harris. AKA, the class that Isaac, Erica and I shared with Scott, Stiles, Jackson, Lydia, and Allison Argent. And a few others I knew but didn't care to think about right now.
Erica, Isaac and I walked in together through the back of the classroom, and Scott and Stiles were in the fron, all of us looking at the empty seat next to Lydia at the front lab table in the middle row.
If we didn't get there first, we wouldn't be able to test her or kill her.
I started walking forward first, Erica and Isaac following, but Scott and Stiles beat us there, Stiles next to Lydia at the edge of the table and Scott right next to her, in front of me.
I glared, backing away and sitting at the table behind them, Isaac next to me and Erica sitting one table over, behind Allison.
Allison gave Scott a curious look, and he cast a glance back at Erica, Isaac and me.
Then Mr. Harris picked that time for the perfect time to start the lesson of the day. "Einstein once said two thing are infinite." I looked from Erica to Isaac with a smirk, looking up at Lydia. "The universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the universe. I, myself, have encountered infinite stupidity." He put his hands on Stiles' shoulders, not bothering with subtlty. I smirked again. "So, to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're gonna combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or, in Mr. Stilinski's case, less than one. Erica, you take the first station. Start with--" A shuffeling from every male in the room cut him off as each guy besides Jackson, Danny, Stiles, Isaac and Scott raised their hands. "I didn't ask for volunteers. Put your hormanal little hands down. Start with Mr. McCall. Natalie--" Again, the same thing repeated, and I smirked as Harris glared at the horny guys. "Again, put your hands down." I smirked, looking down at the desk with a tilt of my head before looking back up. What a confidence boost this class was. "Natalie, start with Mr. Stilinski."
I sat next to Stiles as Allison and Lydia were paired together and Erica sat next to Scott. I thought Isaac was with Jackson, but not sure.
"What exactly are you planning to do to her?" Stiles asked.
"Well, she killed my dad and almost killed me with a car door, so it's only fair," I replied with a teasing smirk.
"How can you be so sure that it's her?" Stiles asked.
"That's why it's called a test," I said. "And if it is her--" I chuckled "--well, she's not gonna be the only one sheding blood."
"You know, you sound like you're joking."
"Or I'm taunting you."
"Just leave her alone, or I swear to God--"
"You swear what, Stiles?" I cut him off, looking toward him. He didn't answer. "Huh. Your little crush is as obvious as the sky is blue." I shrugged nonchalantly. "Not that'll matter if I rip her head off."
Stiles froze, looking to me while I smirked back as the tiny bell on Harris' desk dinged. "Switch."
I got up from my seat, looking back at Lydia and Allison as Allison said, "Listen to me. Don't talk to Erica, Natalie or Isaac."
"Why?" Lydia asked.
"Just trust me."
"Let's go, girls," Harris said. "Next station."
Allison stood, walking away, and as I walked toward the newly empty seat, she purposely walked into me, letting Scott take the seat as she said, "Sorry."
"Uh-huh," I said as I backed away.
Sitting next to someone I didn't know, letting them do the work and not paying attention until Harris rung the bell again. "And switch."
I stood up and went to sit next to Lydia, and Stiles tried to stop me, but Harris hit him with a ruler. "If you're trying to test my patience, Mr. Stilinski, I can guarantee it'll be a failing grade."
I smirked, looking back to Lydia. When she looked back at Allison and Erica, I slipped some of the venom into the beaker that I knew would make an edible crystal, and sat back as she looked back forward, oblivious and continuing on.
Then Harris rung the tiny bell again. "Time. If you've catalyzed the reaction correctly, you should now be looking at a crystal." Lydia had made the crystal perfectly. "Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy--you can eat it."
"You want it?" Lydia asked me.
I shook my head, smirking. "Nah. I'm not hungry yet." I used the tweezers to get it from inside because of the venom, starting to hand it to Lydia.
She took it, about to plop it into her mouth, the venom starting to drip when Scott stood up from behind us, next row over. "Lydia!"
We both looked back at him, as well as the rest of the class, Lydia with an innocent, confused expression while I smirked deviously.
"What?" Lydia asked.
Everyone in the room was looking at Scott for his little outburst, and he knew that I had put venom in it, and he also knew he couldn't tell her that in front of everyone. "Nothing," he said as he lowered back into his seat next to Stiles.
I watched carefully as Lydia ate the crystal, waiting for the effect of my own little experiment.
As she chewed, I looked out of the window behind her, seeing Derek and his black Camaro across the street as he too waited for the answer.
The venom should've effected her by now, but nothing was happening.
Instead of smirking, I smiled.
We finally knew who the kanima was. Knew who killed Isaac's and my dad and nearly killed me.
And, today, after school, we'd get to kill her.
The last period of the day, and I was in a great mood as Erica, Isaac and I walked down the hall together, following the scent of Lydia.
Isaac scratched his claws along the lockers while Erica spun in a circle and I used both hands to tap against a locker, spinning too as we kept walking the entire time, never stopping.
We had a kanima to kill.
I held out a hand to Isaac and Erica next to the library door. I smelt Lydia and Stiles' scents.
I walked through, Isaac and Erica following after me.
The only two in the library were Danny and Matt, two lacrosse player, Danny Jackson's best friend. Matt and Isaac had used to be friends when they were nine and I was eight. He stopped coming over one day, but I had no idea why. He had never told Isaac either.
We walked up to them, Isaac pulling Matt up from the table by his jacket. "Where is she?"
"Wha--who?" Matt demanded.
"Lydia," I said.
"She just left," Danny said, trying to help Matt out. "With Stiles, Allison and Jackson."
Of course she had.
What were they planning?
Derek had told us to meet at Scott's house, knowing they'd be there. Boyd was with him.
Each of us stood outside, across the street from Scott's house and Stiles' jeep, watching them as Allison and Stiles looked out through the thin windows on either side of the front door.
For a long time, we just stood there, and Isaac and I were getting really impatient. Lydia was the kanima, tried to kill me, actually killed Dad and would kill any one of us in a second.
"Derek," I sighed with annoyance and impatience.
"Natalie?"
"Are you gonna kill her or stand out here like stalkers? You know I have every reason to kill her."
"I'll help," Isaac volunteered.
Derek hesitated a second, figuring out what to do. "You two, through the back."
I shared a devil smile with Isaac, both of us gearing ourselves up and walking forward, toward the back of the house.
I walked in first with him following as we heard Stiles and Allison by the front door.
"I got an idea," Stiles said to her as she grabbed a crossbow. "Just shoot one of 'em."
"Are you serious?" Allison asked him.
"We told Scott we could protect ourselves. So let's do it. Look, just give it a shot, all right? Look, they don't think we're gonna fight. So if one of them gets hit, I guarantee they'll take off. So just shoot one of them."
"Which one?"
"Uh, Derek. Yeah, shoot him--preferably in the head."
"If Scott was able to catch an arrow, Derek definitely can."
"Okay, uh, just shoot one of the other four then."
"You mean two."
"No, I mean four." I smirked as they both looked outside. "Where the hell are Natalie and Isaac?"
As he spoke, we both strode forward.
Allison heard us first, turning and pointing the crossbow at me, shooting and an arrow came toward me, but I side-stepped as it slid past my head, and I continued after her, taking the cross bow and knocking it out of her hands, pushing her down to the floor.
Isaac had pushed Stiles into the living room, stepping closer to him while I stepped closer to Allison, my eyes glowing gold as she slid back on the floor.
Growling quietly, I charged toward her as she got her crossbow again, shooting at me.
I moved my head to the side, catching it with my hand, chuckling as I looked at it, snapping the arrow in two with one hand just by closing my fist.
And Allison was running upstairs as the front door opened, Erica coming in.
We both smirked, both following her up the stairs as Allison called, "Stiles! It's here."
I looked to Erica. "You go after her. I'll take care of Lydia."
"Sure thing," Erica agreed with a smile, and we both smiled devil smiles before heading separate ways, Erica kicking Scott's door open as I walked down the hall.
There were only two different doors in the upstairs half besides Scott's room. I assumed one to be a bathroom while the other was Scott's mother's room.
I pushed the bathroom door open, looking into the dark, non-it bathroom with no one inside, but the shower curtain drawn closed.
I walked in, yanking it to the side, but nothing. So I walked back out and started my way toward the last remaining door to check, looking from side to side because I thought I sensed someone close.
I smirked, sensing someone behind me.
"Hey," Scott's voice said from behind me, and I turned around, the smirk still on my face. "I know the kanima tried to kill you. Almost did. But--"
"But nothing," I said with an annoyed sigh. "It's Lydia. I'm killing her. You're not gonna be able to reason your way out of this."
"I didn't think I could."
My eyes glew gold before his did, both of us going to attack.
Scott swung an arm forward, vertically, intending to hit me on my shoulder or head, but one of my arms went up and my hand caught his wrist, and then he tried again with the other, but I caught that one too.
I head Scott's wrist, forcing him to turn his back toward me, kicking his back and making him bend.
His wrists were still in my hands, and he took that as an advantage, turning them slightly and gripping mine as he swung me over his head and onto the ground, then swinging me up toward the wall.
I used both of my arms to catch myself against the wall before I hit, and sensing Scott was going to kick me, swung around in a pivot on one foot, the foot landing on the wall where I had been a second ago.
Instead of clawing him, I punched his jaw in an uppercut when he grabbed my arm and swung me toward the other wall behind him, grabbing the side of my head and hitting it again hard enough toe make a complete human pass out.
I wasn't completely human though. Not anymore.
So I kneed him in the gut when I saw Allison with her crossbow behind him, the cross bow pointed at me, and the arrow being let loose.
Again, I turned my head just as it was about to hit, catching the wet aroow and smirking at Allison. "You tried that before. Twice. Never works."
"It worked this time," she responded with her own smirk.
I remembered the feeling of the wet arrow, looking down at it in my hand, seeing the clear venom, I knew it was the venom. Just by the look.
It felt like my body was slowly shutting down, my limbs becoming weak and useless. Dysfunctional. Unmoveable. From the neck down.
I started to fall slowly, dropping the arrow and Scott stood, catching me as I fell, looking back at Allison. "Get Erica."
She nodded, walking back into his room as he carried me down the stairs, and I saw Isaac unconcious next to the fron door and Stiles standing next to him, opening the door so he could toss out Erica first, then Isaac, and then me. In the order we had been taken down.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Derek looking down on us, sighing an annoyed sigh before looking up to the porch with Scott, Allison and Stiles.
"I think I'm finally getting why you keep refusing me, Scott," Derek said. "You're not an Omega. You're already an Alpha. Of you own pack. But you know you can't beat me."
"I can hold you off until the cops get here," Scott answered.
Then we heard the faint hum of police sirens, but I wasn't paying attention to that because I saw something greenish, scaly and snake-like crawl out of an open window on the roof.
And it had a tail.
Finally. Proof that Lydia was the kanima. Scott, Stiles, Jackson and Allison couldn't deny it anymore.
Scott, Stiles and Allison heard the footsteps on the roof, stepping off of the porch so they could see.
The kanima looked down at all of us and screeched before taking off.
I heard Derek tell Boyd, "Get them out of here."
Before anyone moved or spoke, someone else was storming onto the porch, demanding, "Can somebody please tell me what the hell is going on?"
The demand was in Lydia's voice.
Wait. If Lydia was here and the kanima just disappeared . . .
Then who the hell was the kanima?
