Drip. Drip. Drip. The obnoxious sound of water pierces my hearing, causing me to shake my feet in annoyance. I could hear the faint sound of rats scrabbling around on the pavement, and a bead of sweat forms on my forehead. Rats have always bothered me, but they were even larger in the sewers. I could hear the faint steps of my kidnapper coming towards me. Instinctively, I drop my eyelids and pretend I'm asleep. As I fake being asleep, the memory of my abduction seeps into my mind.
"Fawn, hurry up!" I hear Alicia, my boss shout. It had been a half day at school, which meant my shift at Dairy Queen started early. I pick up my pace, and punch in two minutes before the time that my shift started. Sighing, I walk over to the window to begin taking orders. Cool air circulates in the small kitchen as the aroma of hotdogs being cooked follow it. I stand, waiting for a customer to order, but there's no such luck. What's the point of me standing if I have nothing to do? I ask myself. Cars speed by the small ice cream building, blinding me in a colorful blur. My phone buzzes, and I open it to a strange number.

Hello dear. I'll be seeing you at work today. Talk to you then.

A chill runs down my back, and chilling scenes of being kidnapped or killed cross my mind. Shaking my head at the thought, I let it roll off of my mind. It's probably just a wrong number, I think to myself. Instead of ignoring it, I type back.

Hello. I think you have the wrong number.
Satisfied by my message, I click the send button. Unknowingly, I had just made a life changing mistake.
The day went by in a blur, and my feet ached. Today was a perfect day for Dairy Queen. It was fifty-six degrees, and there was a sweet breeze sweeping over the rolling hills of Summerville. As the day ended, a man walked up to the counter.
"Hello, may I take your order?" I asked unenthusiastically. His eyes flicked around, and he acted nervous. "Uh.... is Fawn Harvey here?" he asked. My stomach dropped, and I could feel my hands get clammy. "N-no, sorry," I stutter. He turns around without a word, and walks away.
"See you tomorrow," I say to the employees that work with me. I decided to take my bike to school and work so I didn't have to ride the bus. As I open the rear door, a feeling of regret washes over me. Go back inside, my mind urged. Fighting these thoughts, I start to walk over to my bike. My phone buzzes, and I remove it from the pocket of my jeans.

Hello Fawn, I saw you today. You're such a bad liar. I wonder if you're as bad of a fighter.....

My heart jumped up into my throat as I scan the area surrounding me. Nobody was around, so I kept walking. I didn't make it five feet when a pair of hands cover my eyes. I try to scream, but a foul tasting rag is stuffed into my gaping mouth.
"Be a good girl, and I won't hurt you as much," an angry voice growls. I panic even more when I hear the hopeless sound of my phone clattering against the pavement. Tears spring up into my eyes as I feel myself getting weaker. Fatigue starts to overcome me, and my thrashing gets weaker. As I'm about to bite the hand in my mouth, a sharp pain sprouts in my head, and everything goes dark.
What's that smell? I think to myself when my consciousness returns. I groan as I roll my head to the side. A tingling sensation spreads up my legs, and I realize that I'm sitting on them. I could hear footsteps nearing me, and the blindfold lifts.
I blink a few times to adjust to the darkness, and the first thing I think is sewer. As my eyes adjust, a sneering face fills my vision. I leap back in fear and surprise. The man in my face grins even more, and I attempt to scrabble away. My efforts were useless as the man yanked me back to a sitting position. He began to talk.
"Hello Fawn. My name is Gary Dunsin, and I want to be your friend." My stomach turned at his sickening sweet tone. "If I take your gag off, I want you to talk," he says while flipping a knife blade out. I start to panic, and bounce up and down, trying to stay away from the blade. Eventually, Gary takes a fistful of my hair, and yanks my head at a painful angle. I give a painful cry, only for it to be muffled by the rope in my mouth. The sound of a knife sawing through rope fills my ears. I close my eyes, waiting for it to be over. When he's done cutting my gag off, the rope falls away from my head.
"Now, since we're going to be friends, we need to know each other," he says. He explains his hobbies and other unimportant information. When he's done, he looks at me like he expects me to talk. I keep silent, refusing to let this monster know anything about me.
"Can you say one thing?" Gary impatiently asks.
"One thing," I mutter. A wicked grin spreads across his face. "Continue," he urges.
"Go to-," I start, but a similar pain from earlier shoots through my head, and everything goes dark once more.
