The Game

Reyna's POV

I'd received a few odd glances from Piper and Jason but then again I figured they weren't expecting me to barge into their cabin. It didn't matter too much though because I dozed on and off in the Athena cabin.

I woke up to a soft knock on the door and Annabeth peering into the cabin. "Wake up princess!"

"Ugh. No," I groaned, but sat up anyways. "Also I'm not a princess. I'm a queen."

"Yeah yeah whatever, come on it's dinner time and I figured you don't want to miss capture the flag," Annabeth laughed lightly.

"Oh yeah. They better pray we aren't on the same team," I smiled and Annabeth stifled a maniacal laugh because if that happened everyone else was dead.

Spending a brief amount of time to at least try and make myself look presentable I inevitably gave up and left the cabin behind. It felt like it should have been morning according to my internal clock but the moon was watching us.

Upon entering the dining pavilion I noticed just how packed it was with campers. Still, there were some missing faces, Hazel and Frank had gone back to New Rome, Sila and Fawn stayed at camp for a bit before leaving with Grover to monitor the outside world for trouble. Apparently some satyrs were starting to notice new bases popping up. Which only made me curious as to why the enemy wanted the Hunters and Amazons so bad. Not to mention Thalia.

"Yo Sis over here!" Hylla smiled and waved. We hadn't really caught up much the past few days so it was kind nice to sit down at the head table with her. Of course, being at the front of the pavilion gave me a different perspective. I could watch as people talked and laughed with one another. Or shared strange stories together.

Then there was Percy and Annabeth who sat at the Poseidon table talking with Tyson who must have arrived sometime while I was asleep. There was Leo at the Hepheastus table laughing his head off along with Calypso. Nico sat at the Apollo table with Will the two of them most likely bickering like an old married couple. Lastly there was Jason, Piper, and Thalia.

Thalia seemed to be in much better spirits than even the first time I met her. She and Piper seemed to be giving Jason hell about something.

"You seem happier," Hylla noted leaning in to talk to me.

"I sorted through some things," I replied smiling at her. She laughed and ruffled my hair like when we were kids. "You know I hate when you do that."

"Which is exactly why I do it," Hylla winked turning back to her plate. Rolling my eyes I finished my dinner and watched as Chiron stood.

"Alright you all know what time it is," He called having given up on formal speeches a long time ago. The campers roared and cheered as Chiron drew their attention. The old centaur listed off teams and sure enough Annabeth and I were on the same side, but Percy and Thalia were on the opposite side. Piper was laughing hysterically along with Jason.

"No!" Thalia groaned meanwhile Percy just sarcastically waved. They all knew what happened the last time they were on the same team.

"Your winning streak is going out the window." Jason laughed high fiving Piper. They were with Annabeth and I.

Chiron waved his hand and the tables became cluttered with weapons and armor. Everyone hastily got ready and those who struggled to put armor on luckily had friends who could help. I met up with Annabeth discussing a strategy with her. Once the plan was decided everyone headed to their positions.

It was decided that Annabeth, Piper, and I would lead the main attacking force. Jason was in charge of organizing defense. Once our battle plans were officially settled, we all waited patiently in the woods for Chiron's signal to start the game. At last it came and it wasn't long before the opposing teams clashed.

"Time to kick ass," Piper smirked rolling her shoulders earning a laugh from Annabeth and I. The three of us charged over the creek crossing the border with ease. We got a good ways before an arrow smacked the ground in front of me sending up a cloud of fog.

"Going somewhere ladies?" Percy asked stepping out of the fog with Thalia and Leo on either side.

"A dramatic entrance? Really?" Annabeth sighed.

"It adds to the effect," Leo smirked, lighting his hands on fire with a playful smile.

"It'll just make you look stupid if you lose," Piper teased.

"That's funny cause I don't lose McLean," Thalia quipped, replacing her bow with her spear.

"Shall we?" Annabeth asked Percy an amused tilt to her head.

"Be my guest." Percy bowed cockily before all hell broke loose. Everyone drew their blades and attacked at once. The fog dissipated at last.

Annabeth kicked Percy in the chest causing him to stumble backwards. Leo launched fire balls at Piper apologizing after each one. Piper just rolled her eyes as she played the deadly game of dodge ball.

I was forced to pay attention to the battle at hand when Thalia's spear grazed my arm. In an instant I deflected the next slash with the flat of my blade.

"Nice." I smirked, and Thalia just shrugged. She swung at me with her shield and I barely ducked in time. Popping up behind her I kicked her in the back but she rolled back to her feet. We were a whirlwind of attacks and blocks. Blades, shields, fists, and kicks.

I was oblivious as to what was going on around me whether we were winning or not. The fight was on and we both wanted to win. I swung my blade knocking Thalia's spear aside. She looked slightly surprised before tossing her shield at me. It smacked painfully into my wrist causing my own sword to clatter to the ground.

"Alright no weapons." I panted rolling my shoulders and tossing my own shield aside. Thalia was bleeding from her nose where I'd punched her. Her right thigh bled where my blade had grazed her leg and her shoulder looked to be painfully bruised from my shield. I could only imagine what I looked like. She'd electrocuted me in small bursts so I probably looked charred and over cooked.

She raised her fists balancing on the balls of her feet. I raised my fists as well. It awed me that no one had won yet but it didn't matter too much. I was keeping Thalia busy.

She swung first in a flash of movement and I barely raised my arm in time to block it. She was quick, probably from years of street fighting. I dodged another punch lashing out with a right hook. She took a step back my knuckles centimeters from her face. This was different than our previous sparring session. Pride was on the line this time.

She smiled lightly and for a moment I was confused before she lunged. Her arms wrapped around my waist constricting my movement as we went crashing to the ground. Using the momentum I bucked my hips throwing her off balance and rolling away from her.

"Nice try." I breathed brushing some loose hair out of my face. We both circled each other in crouched positions. I dropped low spinning swiftly and knocked her legs out from beneath her. She landed with a loud thud and I knew I'd knocked the wind out of her but that didn't stop either of us. I took the opportunity to pounce on top of her, wrestling to pin down her arms. She grunted managing to loosen my grip on one of her arms and blasted me sideways with a gust of wind.

"It's not that easy Ramirez." By now we were both covered in sweat and dirt stains. Her pale skin was much darker from the thin layer of dirt that covered her. We locked in battle again both of us on our feet until we crashed back onto the ground. It was a flurry of limbs, painful hits, and grunted remarks.

Everything sorted itself out though when a massive wave crashed down on the two of us. I was knocked clean off of Thalia spluttering and soaked.

"What the hell?" I gasped wiping my eyes as my vision steadied. I glanced up to see everyone standing in a semicircle around Thalia and I amused looks on their faces.

"The game is over," Piper laughed.

"It has been for about ten minutes." Leo said pointing to the flag in Percy's hand.

"So?" I asked.

"So that means you stop fighting." Jason said crossing his arms like a parent looking at his kids.

"But I didn't win yet," Thalia pouted sitting slumped over in the large puddle.

"Yes you did. Perch got the flag. Besides, at the rate you two were going you would've killed each other before you admitted defeat." Annabeth rolled her eyes offering me her hand. She pulled me to my feet before doing the same for Thalia.

"Guess I still have my winning streak," Thalia grinned, before flipping me off.

"Oh please you didn't even help," Percy scoffed playfully. Thalia rolled her eyes and simply demanded that Percy could at least dry her off. Which he did.

After the game everyone slunk off either from exhaustion or defeat. I on the other hand made my way to the Big House. Thalia and I were leaving. We needed to get her friends back one way or another.

While I was early to the Big House she showed up late but luckily Argus- the security guy-had taken his time to pack our things. He even managed to acquire a silver knife for each of us.

"Sweet! Now those wolf assholes can die." Thalia smiled turning the blade over before tucking it away.

"Thanks Argus. And do tell Chiron we appreciate it," I smiled kindly at him and he gave me a thumbs up as I slung on my pack. "Did you say goodbye?"

"Yeah the others aren't happy about it because they want to help but Chiron says they can't. If it's true that other bases are popping up then this is a lot bigger than originally perceived. That it wasn't just an attack on us," Thalia explained.

"Yeah but I've been thinking. Their were thrones at the base. Four of them. And it was almost like our torture was a show for someone," I talked quietly as we stepped outside into the dark. "And when Sila tried to rescue my sister and I he mentioned someone."

"He knows something but he's not here obviously," Thalia frowned. "And Cupid mentioned something about his siblings."

"Maybe there's more of them." I said thinking hard. "More minor gods of Aphrodite like Sila."

"Yeah but why in the hell would they want to target us along with the Amazons and Hunters?" Thalia asked leading me to where her tree stood in the dark.

"Think about it. All of us have avoided Aphrodite or been screwed over by her," I said. "Getting rid of all of us would eliminate the threat of her godly opposition."

"Because everyone else is cool with the love Goddess," Thalia nodded. "If we're all gone and not a hindrance to their power or her's then whatever they have planned can happen."

"Right. So all we have to do is figure out three things. Who's in charge of this? What's there plan? And where are our friends?"

"I feel like the list keeps getting longer." Thalia groaned as we crested the hill. "And we've made no progress."

"Actually we have," I smiled, straightening my pack.

"And what do you mean by that?" Thalia asked sarcastically.

"Easy, we know where to start. You were on the right track by going back to the base for clues." I explained. "Now we just have to get there."

"Easy as cake," Thalia said with a sigh.

"You mean pie," I corrected.

"No I mean cake," She said pointedly. "I hate pie."

"You hate pie?" I asked feigning hurt. "I'm sorry but we can't be friends."

"That's not my problem." She laughed crossing the border and starting down the hill. Hylla waited at the bottom with a Pegasus ready.

"Alright you two get out there and kick ass. Make them pay," Hylla said patting the horse's neck. "And don't kill each other in the process."

"Will do sis. Keep an eye on things here," I smiled, hugging her tightly before climbing on. Thalia slipped on behind me.

"I'll find them Hylla just hang tight," Thalia promised, smiling down at her.

"Yeah yeah." Hylla rolled her eyes smacking the Pegasus on the butt. It started a bit before lifting off the ground with a gust of the wings.

"I still hate flying." Thalia grumbled and I laughed lightly. She clung to my armor like her life depended on it as she had the first time we flew. "But we both know I won that fight."

"Says who?" I demanded.

"Please, before Percy doused us you looked like burnt bacon," Thalia laughed.

"Fine I'll admit you won." I conceded with a sigh. She cheered quietly. "Now shut up and focus on the mission."

"Will do Sargent," She mumbled. And for once it was quiet and almost peaceful as we flew. Heading back out to find our friends, to figure out what these mysterious four were, and to figure out their plan. All of it was typical demigod stuff but let's be honest here. With the two of us nothing was ever typical. Not even capture the flag games.
