[26] Zig, Meet Zag

Emmy didn't think her first month of pregnancy and married life would be so hard. Well, she didn't anticipate knowing that she was going to die at the end of it. She thought it would be troublesome at times but she hates having to deal with the fact that this baby will kill her. She has always wanted a family and now, the thought that having a family could kill her? It's crushing her from the inside out. She is heartbroken and terrified.

Two months into her pregnancy, Emmy is feeling better about this whole thing. Chad has been bending over backwards to help her she is excited to have this baby now. More excited than she has ever been for anything in her life. She is going to have a family. With Chad. Her husband. She is already starting to think of names for the little guy or girl they are bringing in to their lives. She has a whole list.

Month three got much worse for Emmy. Her morning sickness kicked into full gear and before long, she couldn't even look at food without throwing up. Several trips to the hospital and doctors office made Emmy feel more run down than she ever has.

Emmy wears a nice, clean, white dress to attend her low-key gender reveal party. Chad takes a thin needle and pops the giant black balloon floating in the sky. The balloon explodes, revealing the colored confetti inside.

Thousands of pieces of pink confetti falls out, covering Chad and Emmy as they stand beneath it. Family and friends help them celebrate. It's a girl! Emmy and Chad are going to have a baby girl!

Emmy spent most of month five of her pregnancy in the hospital getting all sorts of treatments for her blood disease. Her condition keeps getting worse. She cries a lot. She hates crying. She feels helpless knowing that if doctors can't fix her, no one can.

She hates her new body. She feels fat and misses when she could easily see her toes.

Emmy and Chad prepared for the sixth month of Emmy's pregnancy by shopping for some baby clothes. Emmys baby shower went well but it would have gone a lot better if she actually had friends. All of her friends are from her old life. She doesn't speak to any of them anymore. They are not good for her or her baby. Now, all she has are the women on the force with Chad. And while they are nice and make good company, Emmy feels as if she is just borrowing Chad's friends to use as her own.

While other aspects of her life have been rough, Emmy is finally beginning to love her new, changing body. As she grows, along with the baby inside of her, she learns to appreciate all of the new changes that are coming and going.

Emmy doesn't remember much of the seventh month of her pregnancy although she says it feels like it has been much longer than just one month. She spent most of this month unconscious and in the hospital. She is growing weaker and weaker every day. The doctors are talking about blood transfusions and possibly even surgery. They are not sure if she will make a recovery.

Emmy has decided that she will continue to fight for her life and for the life of her unborn child but she will no longer fight death if it comes for her. She and Chad have come to a conclusion that if it comes to a decision of saving the baby or saving her, Chad needs to make the difficult decision to chose his daughter over his wife. She has come to terms with the fact that she could die in surgery or shortly after.

Emmy says her goodbyes to her husband and her father before the surgeons wheel her into the operating room. They are going to induce labor today and attempt to save Emmy's life in the process. Her condition is getting worse and they need to make dramatic changes in order to save her.

After a long and terrible labor, Emmy finally gives birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl who they will name Hope.

A nurse cleans Hope off and brings her out to her father who paces impatiently in the waiting room along side his father in law. She gives Chad an update on his wife's condition and allows him to hold his daughter for a few minutes.

Though the doctors don't have much hope, Chad has enough for all of them.
