[18] Repair
An officer comes into the containment area and inserts a key into lock and opens the cell. Emmy is being released.
She wants to celebrate right now. She wants to throw her hands up in the air and scream with happiness. She is finally free from this stupid jail cell. She feels like she was locked in there for ages.
But now is not the time for celebration. She has a very angry and upset man to console.
The officer hands Emmy a box of the things that were confiscated when she was arrested. She takes the box from him, removes her belongings and rushes out of the room towards the desks where the officers work when they are not out in the town.
She looks around the room in search of Chad. She has to find him so she can try to fix everything with him. She is hopeful that she can find a way to patch their relationship up.
Chad is nowhere to be seen around the office. She locates Fae and rushes over to her desk where she angrily fills out paperwork. "Fae? Have you seen Chad?"
Fae shakes her head. "I'm so sorry Emmy. He went home about an hour ago. I tried to stop him but he just doesn't want to listen to me." Fae explains what happened.
Emmy nods. She doesn't want to give up on this relationship but she knows that if she doesn't give him his space, he will never have time to think and clear his head. She needs to go home and be by herself for a little while.
Emmy grabs her phone and shoves it into her purse. Inside her purse, she hears a paper crinkling as she slides her phone in. She pulls the sheet out and reads it.
Emmy,
Meet me at the courthouse at five tonight. We have a lot to discuss. I'll see you then.
Chad
Emmy slaps the paper down at her sides and sighs. There is hope yet for her and Chad.
Now that Emmy knows she has a meeting with Chad tonight, she has a lot of time to do things she needs to do.
She bursts into her father's office and lifts an empty sofa bottle out of his trash and throws it at him. "What the hell dis you do this for? What have I done to you?"
"I don't know what you are talking about." Her father plays dumb, smirking.
"I'm not here to play games with you." Emmy clenches her teeth together.
"I'm not here to play games with you either Emmy." He replies.
"Then why did you do this to me? Why did you give Chad that file? Why do you constantly feel the need to ruin my life?" Emmy searches for answers about her father's childish behavior.
"Chad needed to know exactly who he is getting involved with. I simply gave him the tools to do so." Her father answers.
"The person in that file is gone. That isn't me. Not anymore." Emmy points to her name in the file. "I am not her anymore. Not since I met Chad." Emmy defends her new lifestyle change since meeting her fiancé.
"Once a criminal, always a criminal." Her father leans back in his seat, kicking his feet up on to his desk.
"Do you want to know why I stopped talking to you? Why I cut you out of my life the way I did Emmy asks, wondering if her father even cares about her reason to leave him behind and stop viewing him as her father. "Because of what happened today. Because you find it necessary to do everything in your power to make sure that I don't have a happy life."
"You don't have a happy life because you chose this life instead of enrolling in the academy like I told you to!" Her fathers once calm tone turns into a fit of rage as his real reason for attacking her love life comes out.
"That is what this is about? All this because I didn't sign up to be a stupid cop just like my daddy?" Emmy scoffs, folding her arms angrily across her chest. She could not be any more mad at him right now.
Previously, Emmy imagined meeting with her father and repairing their relationship that has been cracked since Emmy's mother died. Now, after this, Emmy will never imagine such a thing ever again.
"None of this would have happened to you if you had just listened to me in the first place!"
"Screw you." Emmy clutches her belongings to her chest and turns to leave. She doesn't want to look at him any longer than she needs to.
"Enjoy that wedding of yours dear, what would I bring as a gift? A get out of jail free card?" He asks with a chuckle.
"The joke is on you, asshole. There isn't a scenario where you will be invited to my wedding. Get that through your twisted mind."
