Chapter 5 His Way
He took you away,
You happily went without looking back at me,
I felt lonely, but I failed.
A boy came and consoled me for some days,
but he too disappeared without any further sayings.
Will I ever find you and him?
Ava's POV
I left my dad's warehouse, feeling overwhelmed by the heated argument. Deciding to clear my head, I hailed a taxi and gave the driver an address that held countless memories—my dad's place, though it had been a while since I'd visited.
As I entered the familiar location, I realized that it had changed significantly since my last visit. Confusion crept in, clouding my thoughts.
'Dad promised Mom he wouldn't alter this place, so why the sudden change?'
I approached the bar, ordered a drink, and settled down at a quiet corner. Amidst the crowd, a handsome man about my age, maybe a bit older, approached me.
"Hey, beautiful."
I responded with a simple 'hey,' showing little interest.
"I've never seen you here before, but you look strangely familiar. Have we met?" he inquired, trying to jog his memory.
I scrutinized him, searching my own memories, but came up empty. "No, I think you're mistaken. I can't recall meeting you."
"Alright then," he replied with a charming smile, blushing slightly. "I'm Alex, and..."
I lost track of his words as I spotted a man I couldn't afford to miss. Without a word, I left Alex behind, determined to follow him.
Exiting the club, I discreetly followed the man down a dimly lit alley. He was engrossed in a phone conversation, allowing me to maintain my distance without detection.
"No, I won't give him any money. The boss would have my head if he found out."
'Boss? What's he talking about? I can barely make out the details.'
The rest of the conversation remained inaudible, but I deduced that he was discussing money and some task for a woman. Just as we reached a road, a speeding truck veered dangerously close to me, forcing me to halt abruptly and lose sight of the man.
I needed to find him and uncover the lady he mentioned. This needed to end. While I should have informed my dad, the day's events made me rethink that decision. Instead, I contacted Mr. Marthy, a trusted employee and my childhood best friend.
Skipping Ahead...
Only two days had passed since the incident, but to me, it felt like an eternity. My house was under constant CCTV surveillance after I informed Mr. Marthy. I was banned from leaving, and my phone was confiscated by my dad's men. I couldn't contact anyone, just Netflix and the delivery guy for groceries.
I was engrossed in the final episode of 'Emily in Paris' when a loud noise erupted from my bedroom. Startled, I paused the show and grabbed a bat, preparing to defend myself. Who could be visiting at this hour? Nobody knew I was here. Had they discovered me?
Slowly, I approached my bedroom door, peeking inside. My eyes widened upon spotting the unexpected visitor, causing me to unintentionally drop the bat to the floor.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Romano, the last person I expected to see, looked bewildered as he glanced around the room before meeting my irate gaze. He raised his hands in a placating gesture.
"I just came to invite you to Amara's party, that's all."
His presence abruptly reminded me that it was Amara's birthday. How could I have forgotten?
"She couldn't even reach you, so she begged me to check on you," Romano explained.
No, I couldn't go out. If my dad found out, he'd probably send me back, and this mission would be taken out of my hands.
"No!" I exclaimed, startling Romano. He seemed puzzled.
"What?"
I looked at him, my mind racing. "Look, I'm sorry for wasting your time, but you need to leave."
I gently pushed him toward the window, not caring about the potential danger of him falling from the top floor.
"Wait!" he said, holding my hand firmly to prevent me from pushing him out.
Our eyes locked, and both of us froze. He stared at me with an intensity that set my heart racing, while my mind played tricks on me, entertaining wild thoughts.
'No, Ava, don't be silly. Have you forgotten he's Olivia's boyfriend? Those emotions you're sensing are meant for Olivia, not you,' my mind taunted me.
I broke the eye contact, hastily putting some distance between us. After an awkward silence, he cleared his throat.
"Are you trying to kill me?" he asked, confusion etched on his face.
"No, umm, I can't go anywhere right now. Can you apologize to Amara on my behalf? I know she must be expecting me, but I have my reasons." I spoke with a sense of urgency, swiftly exiting the room.
"Why? Amara likes you, and it's been a long time since I've seen her smile. You have to come. Otherwise, I'll have to force you," Romano insisted, following me to the living room.
I looked at him incredulously. "You can't do that," I replied, but before I could react, he did something entirely unexpected.
