Chapter 18
Bitches never learn ........
An hysterical scream bursts out of Evelyn as she punches the mirror in her car that cracks and shatters into her lap, she arches back in rage wanting to rip her own skin off with temper, how fucking dare those worthless little bitches think they can stop her, she had worked too hard, come too far, to be stopped by an old woman and her rag-tag gang of has been witches.
Her blood was boiling, her usual porcelain complexion came over all hot and flushed as her anger ate away at her insides.
Furiously she hits the dashboard wishing it was their miserable little skulls, cracking beneath her fist.
"FUCKING BITCHES" she wails, she had always known this day would come, but egotistically she had always confidently assumed they would be as easily to destroy as they were over 300 years ago.
You see Evelyn isn't one to sit on her laurels over the years she had killed thousands of witches, hoping to stop any chance of all of them returning together in the same time period or creating a stronger, larger coven that would jeopardise her plans. She knew witches are always stronger when in a coven - they can combine and harness each other's powers.
At first it was no easy task hunting and killing her fellow witches, they kept their identity secret, knowing their survival was dependent on blending in within society but this century it had become too easy - every bored housewife from Whitstable to Aberdeen with too much time on her hands and a love of the tv series "Charmed" was convinced they were "little bit of a witch". If she had a pound for every time she had heard the words "I'm incredibly spiritual" from some idiotic tit, she would be a millionaire ten times over. The truth is everyone wants to believe they are special ..... very few are.
Evelyn didn't consider herself special, gifted or lucky, she considered herself a bloody marvel - she had gone above and beyond to create herself into a force to be reckoned with. She had danced with the devil himself to get where she was.
But some how these fucking bitches had outsmarted her and this cut her deep. Evelyn was never outwitted by anyone.
She would hunt them, she would kill them and this time no curse would bring them back. They will stay dead.
So Evelyn knew that she would have to do what she does best - plot, scheme then destroy.
Her idle thoughts were distracted as she hears annoying tapping on the passengers door window, followed with the words "fancy seeing you here", the annoying noise belongs to the irritating, nosey busybody Linda (fellow member of her book club) who's face is pushed up against the glass like a toddler would do at the zoo - she tosses up the idea of swinging the passenger door open and knocking her flat out on her fake fat arse but settles on just lowering the window.
"Hello stranger" Linda squeals "you popping into town for a little retail therapy"
Charm offence now firmly turned on, Evelyn smiles sweetly "I'm just picking up some bits for the kids, mothers work is never done".
"I know what you mean if I didn't have the nanny, I think I would have lost my mind by now or killed my husband".
Both women break into a chorus of fake laughter.
"Hun I can't help noticing your rear view mirror is smashed".
Evelyn bites down on her tongue, she does not have the patience to deal with Linda's nosey bullshit today "I know it's the strangest thing, I was driving here and a dog run out into the road, well of course I did an emergency stop but my phone went flying up - I had it in the cup holder and smashed my rear view mirror but the dog was fine".
Then to add the cherry on the top, Evelyn looked up and dramatically whispered "thank you God".
Linda leaned into the open passenger window so only Evelyn could hear her "really, that's so strange because when I came out of the coffee shop, I could have sworn I just saw you screaming like a mad woman then you punched the rear view mirror".
Linda tilts her head like a dog does when it's waiting for a treat, in her case she's waiting on gossip.
"You're mistaken Linda".
She dramatically sighs as if contemplating Evelyn words "No I don't think I'am" then a victorious smirk washes over her face.
Evelyn's hands shake with temper as she clings on to the steering wheel, desperately trying to stop herself getting out and not cutting out Linda's eyes with her car keys. What is it with bitches pushing their fucking luck with me today.
"You're right Linda you did see that but do you want to know what I saw the other day".
Linda leans in closer like a greedy little gossip ready to devour what ever information Evelyn about to feed her. She is practically climbing in to the car.
"I saw a very dear friend's husband creeping home once his wife had gone to Pilates, then thirty minutes later the baby sitter everyone uses turned up - which is strange because the kids would have been at school".
Linda is positively drooling at this revelation "which baby sitter was it - Amanda or Kitty?".
"Oh I can't remember which one, ask your husband".
If Linda's face hadn't been permanently paralysed from years of Botox, I'm sure it would have crinkled like a bulldogs, as the realisation kicked in and tears began to flow.
"Don't be worrying about my rear view mirror when your own house isn't in order and your husband is diddling the babysitter - if your not careful you will be replaced by a newer, younger prettier model, it's about that time for an upgrade".
"He wouldn't dare" Linda squeals.
"I forget are you his second wife or his third?".
Words are now lost on the towns infamous gossip queen as her minds spirals.
"Obviously it goes without saying I won't utter a word of this to anyone, I wouldn't gossip behind my dear friend's back, as I know you wouldn't do that to me" Evelyn hisses like a snake that just struck.
Linda mindlessly nods as she tries to refrain from letting any further tears drop and bringing further attention to herself , she knows she has been bested by Evelyn "of course, thank you".
A wicked smile creeps on to her perfectly pouted lips "I really must dash sweetie, see you at next book club",
With that she speeds away leaving chaos, destruction and pain in her wake and feeling a little bit more chipper than she did ten minutes ago. It's amazing how other peoples heartbreak, always brings a smile to Evelyn's face.
