Forty Six
Study hall was probably Hyunji's favorite period. She could put in her headphones and get a moment of peace, block out everyone else-
"Hey, Ji!"
Fuck! I've been avoiding him all day.
"Hey," She softly smiled, keeping her focus on her laptop.
Jaehyun sat down from the table across from her. It was just the two of them. Ryujin was in class and her other friends had different schedules.
"Have you been avoiding me?" He made eye contact.
"What?" Hyunji's eyes widened.
"I'm joking! I haven't seen you all day."
"Oh, I've been busy today."
"Mhm. You finished the last paragraph of our assignment?"
"What!? You said you would!"
Hyunji opened another tab on her computer and quickly went to the document where their assignment was.
"I swear to god you said you were." Jahyung groaned.
"What time is it due?" Hyunji asked him.
"Uh, like in an hour."
"And I've got class in twenty minutes. Fucking shit, this is a fucking disaster."
Jaehyun raised his eyebrows chuckled. "Damn, I never heard you talk like that. It's hot."
"No it's not, I'm talking like a trucker. What are we gonna do? I'm trying to study for my test. Can you write it?" Hyunji tried to ignore his comment.
"Yeah, I'll finish it. I don't know if I will in time though. . ."
"Shit,"
"Well, one of my friends said that they changed the timezone on their laptop to give them an extra few hours."
Hyunji gave him a skeptical look. "Really? Is this what you and your friends talk about."
"I'm gonna write it now and I'm gonna try it so we don't get marks taken off for it being late."
"You try that."
"You'll believe me when it works!"
Silence took over as she heard Jahyun aggressively typing and then smashing the backspace button. She focused on what she needed to study for her chemistry test. Her phone buzzed and Hyunji quickly picked it up.
Jungkook: Good luck on your test princess 😍
Jungkook: Almos gt caught bu my mat geacher jus to txt u
Hyunji deciphered his many typos and chuckled. She always told him he was going to get his phone taken away until the end of the day. She replied a quick "I love you ty" before putting her phone down.
Jaehyun noticed her bright smile as she looked at her phone. He knew that smile, she was texting a guy. It only made him want to make a move even sooner.
Hyunji was different from the other girls. She didn't have a new boyfriend every week, nor did she beg for attention like some of the girls did. Hyunji was mature, she was very studious, always busy getting something done. She was pretty, so much prettier than a lot of the other girls he's looked at.
Jaehyun couldn't help but become infatuated with her. He sat at the lunch table besides hers just so he could get intoxicated off her laugh, that soft giggle he became accustomed to hearing. Oh, her smile, it was so bright he swore he needed sunglasses as times-
Ugh, get a grip.
A few more days and then I'll give her flowers and ask her on a date. Jaehyung though to himself.
He knew her birthday was just days away and couldn't wait. What better way to show her he cared than to go out of his way and get her a fresh bouquet of flowers and a birthday card with a heartfelt confession? He noticed the way she was always grinning anytime her phone vibrated, he wanted to make a move before someone else did.
If only he knew she was already taken.
____________
"Are you really gonna go to school on your birthday?" Jungkook raised his eyebrow.
"Ugh, I was planning on it but now you're acting like I'm crazy." Hyunji sipped on her coffee.
Jungkook had picked her up after school and taken her to a cafe. Nothing could replace face-to-face conversations, facetime just wasn't enough.
"I was gonna skip school too and come over to be with you. But, you know, if you rather run laps in the gym and miss out on mixing random shit together in chemistry I'd totally understand." Jungkook sarcastically said.
"Alright! You've convinced me."
Jungkook noticed some cookie crumbs on the corner of her lips and got an idea. He leaned forward towards her and smirked.
"C'mere." He said.
Hyunji leaned towards him as he put his hand on her cheek, she thought he was going to kiss her. Rather, he brought his lips to the corner of hers, his tongue swiping across her mouth.
"Jungkook!" She loudly whispered to scold him.
"What?" He rolled his eyes. "No ones looking at you, and if they are well now they know your mine."
"Oh my goodness. . ."
"What? If you did it to me I wouldn't even bat an eye."
"I bet you wouldn't."
Jungkook finished his milkshake and picked up the paper bad that held their pastries before they were eaten. He got up and threw them in the trashcan before sitting back down.
"Are you ready, princess?" Jungkook smiled.
Hyunji nodded and stood up, their hands were intertwined as he led them out of the cafe.
"So what time do your parents leave in the morning?" He asked.
"No later than 7:30." Hyunji replied, looking at him as he opened the car door for her.
"I'll be there in the morning. Make sure you wear one of your cute little pajama dresses to bed. Skip on your panties too if you're feeling generous." He smirked before shutting the door.
______________
Hyunji was beginning to feel excited about her birthday. She would finally be 18. Of course she knew things wouldn't instantly change. Her parents wouldn't be happy with her having a boyfriend, or making decisions on her own. But at the end of the day it still opened up more doors and gave her some freedom.
If her parents knew she was skipping school just because it was her birthday she'd get a lecture on how immature it was.
The only option is lying. Hyunji thought.
Hyunji wanted to sleep in too, not wake up, get dressed and say Taehyung's taking her. It was sad she came down to lying to her parents so often, but they were not understanding at all. Sometimes she swore they were never teenagers themselves.
What are my options?
I have awful cramps
My first class is canceled
.... Fuck what could C be?
Alright, the first class was canceled, the teacher had an emergency and they couldn't find a substitute in time.
Hyunji decided to go with that option and mention it over dinner, if they were even home in time for dinner. She was looking forward to Eunji moving in within the next few weeks, at least then Hyunji wouldn't be alone all the time.
______________
Jungkook sat on the couch with Tae and Jimin, his hand tightly around the video game console.
"I missed this." Jimin sighed in contentment, gunshots being heard in the background.
"I know right," Jungkook muttered.
"Well we could've done this sooner if it wasn't for someone and his girlfriend." Tae said as they finished the level.
"What?!" Jungkook looked at his Hyungs.
It had to be said. Jimin and Taehyung felt the same way, he was a few doors down once or twice a week and barely bothered to come spend time with them.
"We've tried to get together with you a few times and everytime you brush us off because you're with your girl." Jimin spoke calmly.
"I get it, your girlfriend comes first. But don't you think it's a little rude to not come see us at all? We've seen you twice since school started." Taehyung looked at the younger one.
Jungkook sighed sitting back, he did miss them and he knew every word they said was true.
"I'm sorry guys, I didn't mean to do that." Jungkook said, "You're both right, I haven't spent any time with you guys."
"We know school takes up a lot of time, but let's try to get together once or twice a month and do something." Jimin suggested.
"Sounds good." Jungkook nodded his head.
"You guys up for sushi?" Taehyung asked.
Jimin and Jungkook jumped off the couch in a flash, Tae took that as a yes.

A big bouquet of colorful flowers was what everyone was curiously looking at as Jaehyun went down the halls. Ignoring the stares and whispers going on behind him. He had nervous butterflies as he was about to ask her out. Taking one last deep breath he walked to where her locker was and didn't see her, his eyebrows furrowed as he sighed.
Shes always there at this time. He thought.
Jaehyung walked down the hall, the flowers hanging at his sides as he looked for her. Ryujin was talking with some of her friends and saw him approaching her.
"Hey, uh, I was wondering where Ji was?" He asked.
"She texted me and said she was staying home today." Ryujin replied.
"Oh," Jaehyun frowned, "I had gotten her these." He showed the flowers.
Ryujins eyes widened, even though it wasn't exactly her place she didn't give a shit anyone.
"Jaehyun," Ryujin paused, "Hyunjis home and her boyfri-"
Ring! Ring! Ring!
That fucking bell! Ryujin thought.
Jaehyung turned as one of his friends smacked his shoulder, telling him it was time to go to class. Based on his reaction, which was none, she was sure he didn't hear, again.
"Thanks, I'll see you later." Jaehyun softly smiled. "I'll give her her card on monday I guess."
"See you. . . . . ." Ryujin said, "Fuck, that boy can't stay focused and listen."
