Forty Five

"Hyunji, are you even paying attention?" Eunji raised her eyebrow, looking at her younger cousin.

"I'm sorry. . ." Hyunji sighed.

"You know I don't usually give out free chemistry tutoring. C'mon what's wrong? You're usually more focused than this."

Eunji had been tutoring her cousin in chemistry again since the school year started. With a big test coming up Hyunji expected to be very studious so she didn't bomb this test, but that wasn't the case.

"Maybe I just need a break." Hyunji leaned back in her chair.

"What's bothering you?" Eunji asked again.

"This guy at school-"

"But, Jungkook?"

That really hurt Hyunji's heart. She couldn't even finish the sentence and her cousin who wasn't even fond of Jungkook was already mentioning him.

"I know, I'm a terrible girlfriend." Hyunji groaned. "I think Jaehyun likes me, but he could just want to be friends. He's the most popular guy in school and I don't like him, but I like that he likes me."

"Oh," Eunji pushed her iPad aside. "I'm sure it's just a phase it'll pass. He'll forget about you and you'll forget you ever had a little crush on him."

"I don't have a crush on him!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes! I don't want anyone but Jungkook. . . But, it's just nice being noticed. I like that he comes up to me every day and says hi or that he switched his lunch table to be next to me and my friends table. I try to distance myself from him but he makes it hard. He was even asking me about homecoming."

Eunji was not expecting that. She kept her facial expression neutral. It was clear her younger cousin already felt bad and Eunji didn't want her to feel any worse.

"That's completely understandable." Eunji started, "You don't have your boyfriend around and your parents are never home. We all crave validation, especially male validation whether we want to admit it or not. You said you don't have feelings for him then you don't have a problem Hyunji."

"But I just feel bad," Hyunji groaned. "Should I tell Jungkook?"

Oh god no! Eunji thought.

"Why would you tell Jungkook? You didn't cheat on him and you don't even romantically like this guy." Eunji said.

Eunji didn't want to tell her cousin what to do, but she didn't want to advise Hyunji to tell her boyfriend.

"I just want to be honest with him." Hyunji spoke.

"You do what you think is best." Eunji softly smiled, silently hoping Hyunji took her advice not to tell him. "One last thing?"

"What?"

"Is he hot?"

"Eunji, that doesn't matter!"

______________

Hyunji sat at her desk as she typed her assignment, on the assignment she had to do a partner with. Her history teacher just had to insist on pairs. Hyunji was going to ask one of her girl friends to be her partner but they had ditched her for someone else and Jaehyun was happy to take her place.

She was trying to maintain some distance between them. This made things more difficult, but Hyunji limited things to just texting.

Jungkook was on facetime with her and he noticed she kept picking up her phone. Her phone dinged again and Jungkook saw her roll her eyes before picking it up and texting.

"What's wrong, Ji?" He asked.

"Jaehyun. . . " She grumbled.

That is a guy's name. Jungkook immediately thought.

"We have an assignment we have to write together. I was trying to pair with one of my other friends but she already had a partner and Jaehyun asked me to be his so. . ." She explained.

"Ah, why are you sighing, is he wanting you to do all the work?" Jungkook replied.

"No. . . His punctuation is shit though."

Jungkook just laughed.

He knew his girlfriend better than that. Something seemed off about her, she wasn't her usual self.

"Babygirl, are you sure you're okay? You just seem off." He leaned towards his phone, bringing his face closer.

Hyunji sighed, despite her cousin's suggestion to not tell Jungkook it bothered her not to. They were supposed to be open about everything. She didn't want to say anything over the phone and she had no clue how to even start. So maybe Hyunji chickened out.

"Yeah, I've just got a lot going on. I'm ready for this school year to be over." She rubbed her eyes.

"Since we get a day off tomorrow why don't you come over?"

Fuck, thats sooner than I expected to have to talk to him. Hyunji thought.

"Sounds good." She smiled.

"You can have dinner with us. My moms been asking when you will come over again."

"I'd love to."

_____________

The next day Hyunji had off from school and she was taking advantage of it. Her mother left the keys to her car for Hyunji and her parents went to work together. Hyunji started out her day by taking Jay to a walking trail, with her headphones in and her furry companion by her side she was content. It had seemed as if she almost forgot what it was like to actually enjoy her time being alone.

After their walk she stopped at Starbucks for breakfast. Treating herself for a change was nice. Once she got home she was going to try and finish all of her homework so she could enjoy the next two days without thinking about school. Then she had to go to Jungkooks. . .

Even the thought made her not want to go.

She hoped when she talked to him that everything would go well. But until then she would try not to think about that.

Ding!

Hyunji expected it to be her boyfriend, instead it was Jaehyun.

Jahyun: Hey! Are you busy?

Jaehyun: Maybe we can ft and finish up our assignment??

"Oh, lord." Hyunji sighed, shoving the last mouthful of her breakfast in her mouth.

_____________

Hyunji put on her mascara as she got ready to go to Jungkook's house. Jay loudly sighed as he walked over to his bed and dramatically collapsed in it.

"I've been with you all day, and we'll be together tomorrow. I'll just be gone a little bit." Hyunji told him as she grabbed her shoes from the closet.

She picked up her purse and headed down the stairs and out the door. Hyunji put on one of her playlist before she began driving to Jungkooks. As she pulled in his driveway she sighed, for once she had wished there was more traffic to slow her down.

Hyunji got out of the car and went to the front door, she hesitated before knocking on it. The door was quickly opened by Areum as she smiled, bringing Hyunji into an unexpected hug.

"It's great to see you again! I've asked Jungkook when he would bring you over again.... Well, over for dinner that is." Areum spoke, muttering the last part.

"I'm glad to be here." Hyunji ignored the latter part of her comment.

"He's in his room, I'll call you guys down in a bit when dinner is ready."

"Okay."

Hyunji found her way to his room like she had before and went to his door. She contemplated knocking but what was the point, there wasn't anything she hadn't seen. Walking in she saw him at his desk, he turned his head and smiled seeing her.

"Hey, Love. Perfect timing, I just finished cleaning my room." He chuckled, reach his arms out.

"Hey," She smiled and walked over, leaning down to kiss him.

After some small talk Jungkook wanted to get in a quick fuck before it was time for dinner. He put his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap. Jungkook couldn't help it, he had been so horny, Jungkook needed her. Hyunji could see the lust in his eyes and thoughts about talking with him were still in the back of head.

Their lips were attached but mentally she wasn't there. Jungkook rested his hand on her lower back pushing her closer to him. She felt his lips dance down her neck, his teeth grazing her skin, he was gentle enough not to leave a mark though.

She didn't want to have sex with him and then proceed to talk to him, it just felt wrong. Yet, Hyunji didn't stop him as they continued making out, things only getting more heated.

Jungkook stood up and carried her to his bed, laying her on her back as he hovered over her. Looking into her eyes he was about to kiss her again but he stopped. She wasn't focused on him, even if she was making eye contact her mind was elsewhere.

"Babe, we don't have to. You could've just told me no." Jungkook laid on his side, getting off of her.

He didn't care how needy he was, if she wasn't in the mood or didn't want to be intimate he never wanted to make her feel forced.

"I'm sorry." Hyunji muttered.

"Are you okay? You've really been acting different the past week."

"I need to talk to you."

Uh oh, that's never good. Jungkook thought, but he kept himself composed.

Her serious tone made him put all his attention on her.

"Okay," He softly said. "What's wrong?"

"It's Jaehyun." She sat up on his bed, completely avoiding looking Jungkook in the eyes. "Ryujin thinks he has feelings for me and I'm beginning to think the same."

"Oh, okay."

"He always comes up to me in the mornings, and in the hallway, and at lunch."

Jungkook felt his stomach in knots. He wasn't sure where this conversation was headed.

Does she have feelings for him? He thought the worst.

"He's the most popular guy in school and I've been getting a lot of attention from everyone." Hyunji went on, "I hate to say it Kook, but I really like the attention he gives me."

Jungkooks face was blank as he processed what she said. He hated the thought of another guy looking at his girlfriend. What bothered him was the fact that she liked it.

He didn't even know how to reply, but before he could think words were slipping out.

"You like him?" Jungkook said, his eyebrows narrowed.

His tone changed, it wasn't soft like it initially was. Hyunji noticed that and immediately felt regret.

"No! That's not that I said at all," Hyunji said, a frown on her face.

"So you don't like him, but enjoy the attention from some guy that clearly likes you?" He repeated it back to her.

"Jungkook,"

"I know I'm not around, but I make sure I call, text, and do things together. Am I just not enough?"

"Of course you're enough."

She expected him to take it better, to be kind and understanding, like he usually was. Seeing him get frustrated and upset made her eyes get a little teary.

This was a mistake.

"I'm sorry! I was just trying to be honest with you." She looked down. "It's not like I want anything more with Jaehyun."

"It's not about what you want with him. I don't like that my girlfriend likes other guys flirting with her. I can't help how I feel." Jungkook shot back.

The room was silent, they both wouldn't look at each other. Hyunji just wanted to go home at this point. Now she was getting irritated with Jungkook herself.

I go out of my way to be 100% honest with him and he acts like a jerk. Telling him was clearly a mistake.

I should've listened to Eunji.

"I think I just need some space." Jungkook broke the silence.

"Yeah, I think you do too." She got off his bed.

Hyunji walked out of his room, she would've slammed the door shut if his parents weren't home. She quickly walked down the stairs and headed towards the door where her shoes were.

"Is everything okay?" Areum asked.

"I'm sorry, I need to go." Hyunji spoke, keeping her head turned away, she didn't want her to see she was crying.

__________

Jungkook sighed, falling back on his bed.

I could've handled that better. . .

It was no doubt difficult for Hyunji to tell him and instead of keeping his frustrations to himself he acted like a jealous boyfriend. He was very jealous. But it didn't matter. Because at the end of the day he knew she wouldn't cheat on him, she wouldn't even think about it. Hyunji was mature and tried to be 100% honest and he got mad and let his emotions get the best of him.

Standing up he looked out his window and saw her speed walking to her car. He groaned, running his fingers through his hair. He was still upset, he still needed time to think. But he didn't want her to leave his driveway and then go days without speaking, still mad at each other.

Jungkook hated leaving one of their arguments unsettled.

He saw her get into her car and wipe away tears, tears that were there because of him.

Jungkook didn't want her to leave. He ran down the stairs and through the house to get to the front door. Areum watched her son sprinting through the house as she stayed quiet, though she wanted to meddle in their relationship she kept quiet.

Hyunji put on her seatbelt and was about to pull away when she saw her boyfriend open the front door. He jogged over to her car barefoot and opened the passenger door. He got in and turned to his girlfriend, taking a deep breath.

"I don't want us to be upset with each other." He looked at her.

"I agree." She quietly said.

"Babe, I appreciate you being honest with me and I'm sorry I got upset."

"Its understandable. I just felt guilty-"

He grabbed her hand and put his hand on her cheek to make her look at him. He hated when she got nervous talking to him, he didn't want her to feel that way.

"You don't need to feel guilty because you didn't do anything wrong. You can't help that you're so pretty!" Jungkook tried lightening the mood. "Ji, it's okay, it's completely normal to like attention. I don't want you to think I don't trust you either, I know you wouldn't do anything. I trust you."

She nodded her head.

"T-. . ." Hyunji started.

Something in the window caught her attention as she looked up, Jungkook following her gaze. Areun was peeking out the kitchen window and as soon as she saw Hyunji look her way she very obviously pulled the curtain shut.

"Oh my god is that my mom?" Jungkook said, rolling his eyes.

"Yeah. . ." Hyunji laughed.

"I'm gonna have to talk to her about that."

Jungkook put his attention back on Hyunji, a soft smile on his lips.

"Are we good?" He softened his tone.

"Yes," Hyunji nodded.

His hand cupped her face as he pulled her into a tender kiss.

"I love you, princess." Jungkook muttered against her lips.

"I love you too." Hyunji said.

Jungkook squeezed her hand softly.

"Are you ready for dinner?"

"I'm starving."

Jungkook kissed her cheek and smiled as he got out of the car. He scurried to the house running barefoot, cursing as he stepped on a rock. Hyunji turned off the car and got out shaking her head at her boyfriend.
