Chapter 18: Unbeatable Rival Part 2
A/N: I finally finished this chapter I've stuck on for forever!
Now I can put in another hundred hours into Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I'm kidding, mostly. I finally preordered the Pokemon dlc so I'll be playing that once it comes out.
But for now, I must do Crimson Flower and Silver Snow! (Plus the dlc)...
...I really hate that I've grown attached to the characters I can't recruit to my party.
Btw, this may or may not have a part 3, idk.
Anyways I hope you enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Open up Ayato-kun! My arms are full!" I shouted, kicking the door with one of my combat boots.
I'm not joking by the way, I may or may not have went overboard with buying stuff to make cookies.
Look; when someone tells me that they'll pay for whatever I need, I'm gonna take advantage of that.
"Hold on, I'm coming!" Ayato shouted back before opening the door. "You're here earlier than expected."
"I'm sleeping over at Ami-chan's house again later so I have to stop by my house again after we're done to make sure Kuroi has everything she needs." I responded. "Now let's go inside to get started."
"Um... What's with all the bags?" Ayato asked, letting me inside.
"Since I bribed Ami-chan with cookies, she agreed to pay for all the things we needed to make cookies." I answered, putting the bags down. "Though we'll have to make triple chocolate chip cookies as well."
Thank god Ami isn't lactose intolerant; that girl loves chocolate more than I love pocky - she's addicted.
"You got someone to buy you stuff with cookies?" Ayato asked, tilting his head in confusion.
"You severely underestimate the power of cookies." I replied. "Cookies have an 85 to 95 percent guarantee to convince a person to do something."
"Really?" Ayato asked.
"Yup! If you're lucky you can even kidnap a person by offering them cookies.*" I explained.
"You can?" Ayato perked up. "Should I be taking notes?"
Why do I get the feeling that my definition of kidnap is very different from his definition of kidnap?
"Let's preheat the oven." I said, changing the subject while moving to the kitchen. "Then we can make the cookie dough."
After spending next 45 minutes showing Ayato how to make (favorite flavor) cookies - and making the triple chocolate chip cookies for Ami - I placed the cookies in oven as Ayato was washing the dishes.
Yup, that's all that happened - totally wasn't eating leftover cookie dough; not me.
Look, if people are going to drink alcohol with raw eggs in it can't I eat cookie dough without a health nut breathing down my neck?! Okay, okay, I know the raw flower is more dangerous but it's not like I ate the whole bowl.
"Now we just have to wait for timer to go off, then we'll take the cookies of the oven to cool." I explained to Ayato.
"Okay." Ayato nodded. "This wasn't as hard as I initially thought it was."
"Cookies are usually the easiest thing to bake." I agreed, digging through one the bags I brought. "Plus, you learned a lot better than Ami-chan and Takumi-kun."
I slightly shuttered at the thought Ami and Takumi's lack of skills in the kitchen. Never again... Not after the pancakes...
Pulling out a box of pocky, some plastic bags, and a roll of ribbon; I sit next to Ayato on a once empty chair.
"Now I'm gonna show you a simple but aesthetically pleasing way to bag cookies." I tell Ayato as I hand him a plastic bag and a strip of ribbon.
"Um, what's the pocky for?" Ayato asked, watching me open the pocky box.
"It's for me." I say, looking at him right in the eyes as I open the bag. "I'm not sharing. I don't share pocky. Understood?"
Ayato just nodded in agreement, watching me eat a pocky stick.
"Good." I say before changing my tone. "Now let's make a decently wrapped bow; cause why the f*ck not~!"
Grabbing three of the cookies that were already done baking, I opened a bag and slid them in. Next I rolled out some ribbon and cut the desired length.
"Now watch me as I tie the ribbon around the bag." I speak up as i proceeded to tie the ribbon around the bag; making a neat and fancy bow. "And there you have it! Now you try while I get to the second batch before timer goes off."
Ayato nodded as I stood up to get to the oven. Putting on oven mitts, I took the cookies out of the oven once the timer went off.
"Say (Y/N)-chan?" Ayato spoke up.
"Yeah?" I responded, putting in the next batch of cookies.
"How did you get so good at cooking and baking?" Ayato asked.
"YouTube..." I answered flatly, stealing a cookie. "...And the internet in general, it'll stick after awhile."
"For some reason I expected a much deeper answer." Ayato muttered, still working on the ribbon.
"Not everything needs a deep answer." I responded biting down on the cookie. "This isn't some sappy romance movie."
"I guess you're right..." Ayato agreed before giving the ribbon one last tug. "I did it!"
Seeing the proud look on his face kinda makes me not want to tell him that all he did was the equivalent of tying a shoelace.
Meh, I'll let him have this. More cookies for me and my gluttonous friends.
"Well I'm going to put the extra cookies in a cookie tin." I said to Ayato, grabbing an empty cookie tin. "You want any for yourself? Though I wouldn't advise taking any triple chocolate chip cookies, only cause Ami-chan is a stingy chocoholic."
"I'll just take one, you can keep the rest." Ayato replied.
"Suit yourself." I said, putting cookies in the tin.
After we finished cleaning, I grabbed my things and walked towards the door.
"Now that everything's finished, it's time for me to go." I said, opening the door. "I need to feed my cat."
Ayato nodded as I walked out the door, closing it shut as I made my way home.
Now all that's left is for Ayato to give the cookies to Taeko. Honestly, that's the hardest part knowing Ayato. I'll just have to make sure he doesn't chicken out.
Maybe I should just throw him in front of Taeko again. Just kidding... Unless?*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You made me cookies?!" Taeko half shouted, already drooling at the bag in Ayato's hands.
"Y-Yeah... I u-um... made them... Just for you..." Ayato stuttered out, face redder than Info-kun's hair.
He's still a stuttering mess but we're making some good progress here. Apparently Taeko's cooking and baking skills are worse than Ami and Takumi's - and that's saying a lot - so this should help put Ayato higher on the love interest scale. I suppose if there's anything good coming out of Amao having a crush on me now, it's the fact that we don't have to worry about his superior culinary skills swaying Taeko.
"And the bow is so well wrapped; I almost feel bad for opening it." Taeko muttered as she started to untie the ribbon. "But I'm gonna give your cookies a try!"
Now with a determined - or rather hungry - look; Taeko undid the ribbon and took a cookie. Biting into the soft and chewy cookie, Taeko let the taste linger in her mouth for a few seconds before her grey eyes lit up.
"They're amazing!" Taeko praised. "Thank you so much Ayato-kun!"
"Y-You're welcome...s-senpai..." Ayato muttered, face completely flushed.
That's the power of cookies for you!
Well it looks like my work here is done.
With a smug look on my face, I turned around and started to walk off.
Or at least I was; until I heard a familiar voice that I was kinda hoping not to come across so soon.
"Ai-chan!"
Here comes Raibaru Fumetsu, as she attempts to jump into my arms...
...And once again I move out of the way to avoid it, causing Raibaru to land face first onto the grassy ground.
I'm an awful person.
"Fumetsu-senpai, are you alright?" I asked, acting innocent.
"I'm okay..." Raibaru muttered, lifting herself up from the ground. "I might have miscalculated the jump..."
Yeah... That's it...
Honestly, after spending the weekend with Ami and Takumi (Ayato too I guess), Raibaru had slipped my mind completely. I suppose I could just be overreacting, but like; almost everyone in this f*cking school is horny. So you know after accidently gaining a reverse harem; forgive me for assuming that cute girl going into detail about my "good" qualities just might have a crush on me.
Granted, having a crush on me is a downright terrible idea, but you do you I guess.
Of course, she could just sincerely want to be friends with me. Though considering who my current friends are, that might also be a terrible idea. I love them, but they're all bad influences (myself included).
"So um... Fumetsu-senpai, did you need something?" I asked, my usual facade on display.
"Oh that's right!" Raibaru perked up as she dusted off her skirt. "I ran over here to give a gift to you!"
"A gift?" I asked, tilting my head slightly.
"Yup! I bought this just for you!" Raibaru replied, putting a box in my hands.
Looking down, it was a box of my favorite kind of pocky.
"How'd you know that this was my favorite kind of pocky?" I asked.
"I see you eating this flavor a lot when I come across you during break!" Raibaru answered, a cheery smile on her face. "You must really love pocky!"
Hearing someone else talk about my pocky addiction just makes it sound sad.
"Yeah, I do... Thank you." I muttered, a little embarrassed.
Damn it! I'm starting to feel vulnerable again! I don't like this!!
"Say Fumetsu-senpai...?" I ask, playing with the end of my sweater.
"Yes?" Raibaru replied.
"About what you said the other day... About genuinely wanting to be my friend..." I muttered, trying not to stutter. "...Do you mean it?"
"Of course!" Raibaru confidently answered.
"...Why?" The confusion present in my tone.
"What do mean by why?" Raibaru asked, confused by response.
"I'm not like how you described." I answered, now playing with my butterfly necklace. "I'm actually quite boring. Sure I do kendo, and I help people with their matchmaking requests; but really I'm just a loner who likes drawing and playing video games."
It's not 100% the truth, but close enough - at least for me anyways.
"You think your hobbies are boring?" Raibaru asked, looking a little concerned.
"Well I don't think they're boring." I corrected. "But I know more extroverted people would find my loner hobbies to be boring."
Also I don't like people breathing down my neck as I'm drawing, it's distracting.
What's with me opening up to people lately? I hate it!
"I don't think you're boring!" Raibaru suddenly semi-shouted (thankfully not loud enough for anyone else to hear). "I know you like your alone time, and that's okay! Just because you're not a social butterfly doesn't mean you're boring! And if someone says otherwise, I'll punch them in the face!"
I don't deserve this angel.
"Then you'll be my friend, even if I can't always hang out with you?" I asked.
For both Ayato and my sake, no one 100% sane should be around when I'm helping Ayato get his senpai.
"Of course! It's understandable that you want some time alone!" Raibaru replied. "Do you want a hug? You look like you could use one."
Huh, I didn't realize I was shaking. Well at least I'm not crying.
I stare at Raibaru's extended arms and soft expression for a few seconds before letting out a sigh.
Just this once.
Giving a nod of approval, I moved closer as I let her embrace me. I can feel her muscles, now I'm just being gay.
Our little hug lasted for awhile, only to be broken by the sound of the bell.
"Ah! I guess break is over." I said, already starting to walk away. "Well I'll see some other time Fumetsu-senpai!"
"Goodbye Ai-chan!" Raibaru said back. "Hope you're feeling better!"
Yeah, I actually do feel better...
...And for once that's not a lie.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Okay what did you want to tell me?"
Osano knew something was up with Raibaru the moment she walked into the classroom earlier with a skip in her step and a smile on her face. However for some reason, she refused to tell him what it was until they left the school.
Now that they are a good distance away from the school, Osano found no reason to keep the silence.
"Oh Osano, I got to talk to Ai-chan again!" Raibaru swooned, a bit of blush on her face. "She even accepted me proposal of friendship!"
"Good for you..." Osano replied with less enthusiasm.
(Y/N) seems to be making a lot of friends lately... Not like that bothers him or anything...
"I know right?!" Raibaru semi-shouted, failing to notice her friend's lack of enthusiasm. "She's so cute! I think I have a crush on her!"
Osano is suddenly glad that he wasn't holding anything in his hands at the moment; cause if he was he would have dropped it on the spot.
"WHAT?!?!"
To be continued.
------------------------------
1) This was just a joke I made years ago. I (jokingly) told my best friend that the best way to kidnap someone was to offer them cookies. But then 3 of our friends that were walking in front of us, turned their heads around and went; "You have cookies?!"
No one was actually kidnapped.
2) No yandere's were hurt during the making of this chapter.
Also, you probably shouldn't throw people (regardless of their dere type) in front of their crush just because you want them to stop being a chicken and just confess their feelings. Probably, idfk; I've never dated anyone before (fictional characters don't count).
~
Random person: I love you.
Reader-chan: But why?
Or:
Random person: I love you.
Reader-chan: A horrible decision really.
