Chapter 43- Take my breath away
"Thank goodness." Harper smiled, resting her hand against her forehead as if she was about to faint. James grinned, cocking his eyebrow. "What?" As he watched her approach his desk placing down his coffee cup down.
"I'm glad your hair colour is back...and eyes." She said. James chuckled as he placed down a document and gestured his finger towards her to come near him. Harper bit her lip unable to stop smiling as she slowly walked around the desk before he grabbed her wrist pulling her onto his lap. "And what blonde doesn't suit me?" He teased. James watched as the woman before him blushed, a sight he loved, to know he had the effect on her and she should know the effect she had on him, the yearning downstairs, from just her body softly pressed against him.
"Hmmmmm." He purred. "You smell so nice." As his nose nuzzled upon her collarbone, the smell of coconut lingering within his nostrils. Harper squealed as she felt his tongue flicker upon her skin that she struggled in delight to jump off his lap as he held her only tighter. "You wouldn't escape even if you wanted to, Miss Daniels" He muttered. Harper turned to face him, bringing her hand to his face as she caressed his jawline admiring the beauty of this man. "I know." Were all her words as she wrapped her arms around his neck, the tantalizing scent of his cologne upon him. James closed his eyes for a moment, surrendering to the comfort of his heart beating faster and the radiance of how his breath hitched every time she was near him. Harper who had her eyes closed too, peeked through her one eye, a mischievous grin forming on her lips as in sudden she blurted. "But I can try." Her hand trailing to his shirt as she squeezed, causing James to yelp as she jumped off his lap.
"You pinched my nipple!" He groaned, standing up as Harper scurried around to the other side of his desk, smirking towards him. James' lip curled. "My turn."
"What!" Harper exclaimed, giggling as she circled around the desk as James stalked after her. "Its only fair." He declared, grinning as he edged closer.
James was a step away when he groaned as his phone began ringing. "You should answer that." Harper smirked as she opened the door escaping this time. James smiled to himself shaking his head as he answered his phone.
Harper got straight to her work, feeling rather guilty for the time she was spending with James rather than actually working for her pay check. That couldn't stop the smile upon her lips as she began scheduling his meetings into the correct allocated slots.
The telephone upon her desk rang and as she answered, reception downstairs informed her they had sent someone upstairs requesting permission to see Mr Brewer. Harper kept brief eye contact on the lifts before they eventually opened and a very beautiful woman exited, her auburn curls bouncing upon her shoulders and slender toned legs walked towards Harper.
"May I help you?" Harper said, politely smiling.
"James Brewer." Were her only words, nothing but a grim expression as she looked elsewhere. Harper nodded. "One moment please." Before pressing the intercom. "Mr Brewer. You have a visitor."
"Send her in." James answered. How did he even know she was female, she didn't hint anything, was he expecting her. Harper couldn't help to feel envy, her looks compared to Harper's were on a entirely different scale and that feeling she didn't like to think of arose, why would James consider Harper as attractive? The woman walked straight on opening the door, the door following behind fuelling Harper's curiosity.
She was becoming more paranoid by the second, her eyes flickering to the clock upon the wall. They had been in there for half hour. She had to resist from not going with a glass to the door and listening in however that would be just damaging his own rights to privacy. Harper sighed, why was she even fussing? Worrying? It was not like he was taking that woman openly onto his desk. He had proved enough to her that she could trust him. Why was she even stressing if he did? Its not like they've settled on what their relationship is?
"Urggh." Harper grumbled to herself as she flopped her head into her arms. She was acting so clingy, he's a grown man for goodness sake she thought to herself. Eventually her attention picked up to the slight turn of the door handle before she heard following laughter as the woman exited before she shook his hand and then left. Harper pretended to be engrossed in the screen, her fingers flying across the keyboard even though on the blank note there was nothing following after. James shoved his hand into his trouser pockets, smiling as he watched the woman enter the lift, then turned to Harper. "When's my next meeting?" She was not going to bother to mention or ask what that woman was here for as she bit on her lip to supress the words that wanted to come out from her mouth as she flickered through the diary. James continued to smile enjoying the little hints radiating jealously off her, the redness in her cheeks and the complete manner not to give him eye contact as she answered him back. "You have a meeting in 10 minutes with Mr Pratt, a smaller firm that you're looking to buy out." James smiled. "Thank you, Miss Daniels." Before he walked off towards his office. Harper bit down on her lip harder as she finally let out a sigh in frustration. What was he playing at she thought. And who was that woman and why did she laugh? A old ex? Oh dam she thought to herself, she should have checked for any lipstick marks upon his collar or neck.
At lunch she left meeting Elliot in the canteen sulking as she flopped down opposite him digging her fork into the pasta. Elliot chuckled. "What's got you down? I wouldn't want to be that pasta." He jerked his chin towards the pasta, her eyes following not realising that she digging further down that the strain upon the plastic fork was near to snapping.
"Sorry." She muttered, her cheeks flaring red as she put her fork down. "I zoned out." Elliot smiled before taking a mouthful of his hamburger then added. "Well, you want to talk about it?" Harper shook her head smiling. "No, I'm fine." Then to prove she was alright, snatched a chip off his plate she took a bite.
"Hey!" He laughed. For the rest of her break, she continued to talk to Elliot, the surrounding crowds heading back off leaving only few left including them.
"So." Elliot said as he leaned back in his chair. "I was thinking of doing something again this weekend. Perhaps...a date?" Harper gulped, hadn't the others been a date or was Elliot now suggesting something serious. "A date?" She muttered, her words barely making use as she choked from the recent water she swallowed. Elliot nodded. "Yeah, I was thinking...well you know... I mean it could...be." He coughed before adding. "Or just our usual friend dates. You know?" The words coming more out as stutter. Harper pressed her lips together as her eyebrows rose slowly up as she glanced around the canteen for a second before her glaze pinpointed on James. However it was not him to be her knight in shining armour and recuse her from this awkward moment but rather he was walking towards a women, meeting her halfway with a smile before walking towards out to reception.
"Harper?" Elliot called out.
"Sorry. You were saying?" She smiled. Elliot shook his head smiling. "It doesn't matter." Harper had the slight suspicion he had saw where her glaze was following and felt guilty in instance. Then on top of that she felt bad for James playing as Elliot. "You know what, how about we go see a movie tonight?" She beamed, trying to hide the jealously that was rising. Elliot's eyes lit up. "Yeah?" Harper nodded. "Yes." Before she got up as she threw her rubbish into the bin. "Wait for me after work?" Elliot nodded as he followed getting up. "See you then." Elliot added before joining Harper as they made their way to the lifts and her glaze couldn't help to look down the towards reception where she hoped he would be returning but rather not.
By the time she had saw James again he was whistling to himself as he entered top floor not glancing once over to Harper as she could see it and carried on. His jacket was swung over his shoulder, his muscles much tearing for show even through the grey waistcoat he was wearing. Harper looked back down to her work as she continued to type as she wrote out the conditions for a contract, her fingers pressing much more aggressively down onto the keyboard with out a doubt. What had happened to the playful James this morning? Now he was acting like he had something to hide. And her patience was on loose ends.
Late afternoon and James only showed his face once and didn't even dare turn a look to Harper as she hoped he would have, she had took the time to spray the whole entire area of hers with her expensive perfume only for it to be wasted as James only entered the lifts, whistling once more as he looked to the ceiling, his hands shovelled into his pockets. What was going on as she stood up. Harper got up a little too aggressively that as she moved forward, her foot tripped over the table leg and she went falling. The impact wasn't the problem as she lifted herself upon her elbows, it was something worse. Harper gritted her teeth as her head flopped.
"Just great." She hissed to herself. Yes, the problem was now she wouldn't be able to get very far, why? Her skirt at the back had caught on the something sticking out the side of the table and had torn at the stitches where the slit was only to cause the slit to tear away leaving her the backside of her pants on show. Harper groaned as she quickly held the bottom of her skirt together as she got up. This was brilliant. Just what she needed. Harper stood up the embarrassment in her cheeks as she stood right in the corner near her desk away from the windows, the possibility that eyes could see.
"What am I going to do?" She whined as she struggled to keep her hand on keeping it together from the inflicting pain of leaning back. Harper sighed. "This is why I like long skirts." As she aggressively turned her skirt around so now that the back where the current slit was, now was going up the side of her one leg. Harper rolled her eyes as she placed her hands on her hips. Then quickly flopped back into her chair, there was no chance she was moving now.
James smiled at the receptionist as he entered his firm, his manner startling her as he walked on. He was ecstatic, more than that. Heading into the lifts, he entered, the little crowd within moving to the one side afraid of the smile plastered upon his lips. He couldn't care less. His heart was leaping out of his chest, the anticipation too much for him as the lift doors opened expecting to see Harper at her desk smiling his welcome. She was at her desk however she was really sunk down into her chair, her head resting on her hand as she moved the mouse. James cocked his eyebrow grinning as he approached the desk instantly startling her as she moved her hands down underneath the desk.
He frowned in bemusement. "Everything alright?" Harper nodded quickly. "You sure there?" His words in a mutter. He began approaching around her side before Harper blurted. "I'm fine. I-I've put your contract on the desk." James smirked confused by her behaviour as he held his hands in surrender. "Alright. I'll get onto it." Then walked off, still she sunk only further down the chair as she bit down on her lip. Her habitat that drove him crazy, a difficult temptation to resist but carried on as he entered his office.
Harper sighed in relief as he walked off, despite the fact her body was yearning from him to touch her, kiss her however that would be difficult with her embarrassing wardrobe problem. And then again, she was still wearily of those women she saw him with and her jealously instantly came back.
James took a deep breath. He could do this he thought to himself as he shut the lid. It was going against what the other part of him thought about it but he didn't care. It was a first and he planned it to be special. Hell, he had gone through the best collection for this. Pressing the intercom, he spoke. "Miss Daniels. I need you to come into my office. Now." He could hear shuffling in the background before her familiar voice in a almost whine answered. "Now? Can...it perhaps wait later. I-I have to finish this proof reading and I am...getting to the best part." He knew that was a lie, who enjoyed proof reading boring contracts?
"Miss Daniels, now. Not later, not tomorrow, not next year. Now." He declared, his heart jumping in his chest, as he tried to disguise the excitement in his tone.
Harper sighed. "I...can't." James cocked his eyebrow. "You can't?" Harper took a moment before she answered. "I...can't move from this seat." James raked his hand through his hair as he ended the intercom and got up. Moving his legs out of his office, he watched as Harper only sunk further down into her chair, her cheeks reddening by the second.
"Miss Daniels?" He muttered. Harper bit down on her lip as she looked elsewhere. James moved forward heading around her side of the desk watching as she turned her back to him. Following her direction, he walked over to that side before she moved the other way. James wetted his bottom lip as he frowned then before she had the chance to move it the other way, from behind stopped the chair, his head above her shoulder. "Care to explain?" Harper's heart was hammering out of her chest as she felt his hand trail down to her hand that was gripping on the chair's arm. Then in instance, he turned her around to face him and the ultimate redness was pitched upon her face. It took a moment for James to notice, before his eyes trail upon her slender, tanned legs until he noticed the slit of her skirt on her one side shortly stopping where he could see the brief bottom line of her pants, what he might add were laced. His lips curled as she just froze watching as the his eyes became darker, the present of hunger and desire. "I-I-I....had a wardrobe-
"Sexy indeed." He cut in, the words rolling of his tongue. "You're driving my downstairs crazy right now, Miss Daniels. Way to make a man want to drop to his knees. " His fingers followed his hungry eyes, she shuddered in delight not fear as she felt his finger glide up her leg. Harper's chest rose fast as what sounded like a growl in the back of his throat.
"J-James-
"Ssssh." He hushed as he slowly crouched down to the level of the chair. Harper watched as his both of his hand guided down the side of the top of her thighs before slowly trailing down before his lips pressed at the side of her thigh, she felt herself pant as his lips trailed softly towards upwards, then moving what was left of the front of the skirt or rather what used to be the side pushed it aside as he slowly kissed the inside of her thigh. Harper gasped, the feeling burning desire as she closed her eyes, the lack of ability to keep still as she threw her head back. She could feel the presence of James' lips leave as she pressed her knees together before she felt his lips take the access upon her neck. He moved up as she arched her neck back, then as she opened her eyes she watched as his hungry eyes burned as she felt his lips crash against hers. All that embarrassment and jealously she was feeling flew out the window, as she kicked her shoes off and stood up as James lifted her up. Her legs wrapping around him, the slit upon the side fully on view even beginning to cause parts of the skirt to rise. Harper succumbed to his desire as he pressed her against the wall.
Two heated bodies separate, their chests rising fast, the presence of hunger apparent in their eyes. James slowly allowed Harper to stand back on her feet as he laced his fingers through hers. "I want to take you on that desk right now." He said, his tone rather breathless. "You're dangerous."
~~~
The only way Harper had managed to leave the office was James' kind gesture to run to the a department store buying her another pencil skirt. When he returned, no words were said what happened a moment ago still had Harper burning with desire. He guided her into his office, then before she could register, his hands torn at the side where the slit was, instantly ripping her skirt off leaving her lacy black pants on show. His hunger was burning but instead he passed the bag over as he headed towards the door and muttered behind. "Chop, chop, Miss Daniels....Before I rip those off too." Harper blushed, her temptation wanting him to as she put on the new skirt, discarding the one that looked rather shredded.
When she exited the office, James was leaning on the edge of her desk looking down before he looked up over to her. He said nothing as she slowly approached him wearily that his eyes were still burning with hunger. "I would like you to come with me tonight." He said. Harper hesitated. "I can't."
"Why?" He muttered.
How could she tell him she thought. "Erm, well. I'm going to see a movie with...someone." James stood up, his eyes now rather intimidating. "Well...I-I...thought. I mean." Before James cut in. "Elliot isn't it? I gathered you would. However you will be coming back with me." Harper parted her lips to protest but couldn't find herself to, instead she nodded.
"And I bet that sweet mouth of yours, did so because you saw me with those women?" His eyebrow cocking up. She had also noticed the desire settle a bit, not entirely but enough that he could control himself.
"Yes." Harper said. "I...I-I guess.-
"Jealous?" He smirked. Harper blushed nodding slowly.
"Good." Were his words, then before she had chance to speak Pecked her lips softly then turned her around. His hands were present her shoulders before she heard him digging around his pocket. Harper tried to look but he kept her firmly in place.
Then she jumped at the slight coldness against her skin before James allowed her ponytail to fall back down. He tugged on the band, letting her hair fall loose on her back before he slowly walked to face her. He grinned looking towards her neck then laced his fingers with hers.
"I couldn't wait any longer." He said. Harper slowly looked down, her heart skipped a beat. "Its beautiful." She wept, tears of joy falling down her cheeks.
James grinned. "Those women you saw me with, had links to getting me the best collection they got. A limited edition I had made." Harper wiped away her tears as she blabbered. "It must have cost you so much. You didn't have to."
James kissed her forehead. "But I did." Then stroking her cheek he added. "Let the world know, you belong to me."
