Chapter 19- On the run

Harper walked uptowards the skyscraper, this morning had still not changed, she still had limted contact with Duke and only had to speak to him if necessary, she hated how everything they had as come down to this. Pushing through the heaving crowds she entered the opening lift, Harper could already feel goosebumps upon her arms just the thought of seeing him now. What concerned her, was this something offical or would he move on from her second that he has had a enough.

She frowned wrinking her nose before exiting the lift. She was startled how James was sat at the end of her desk fumbling with a pack of sticky notes as he flickered them with amusement, he soon got up noticing Harper, snaking his hand around her waist as he pulled her close to him. Harper soon forgot what she was fretting about how close she was and the familair scent she felt so home to. James tilted her chin up before claming her lips against his. He released her and began caressing her cheek with his thumb as he studied her eyes.

"Oh how you make my day much copeable." He gleamed, the glint in his eyes as he pushed a strand from her face. Harper smiled slightly to him before sliding from his grasp as she moved across to her desk chair. James frowned following her around. "What's up?" Harper shook her head. "Nothing, I just need to focus on being your PA, rather than our sessions." James noticed the saddened expression upon her lips as she began taking out things from her bag. "Our sessions? I thought you enjoyed our time together?" He said, his forehead wrinkling as he placed his hand upon her back. Harper bit her lip. "I...just-" She muttered but she couldn't finish her sentence. James shot up removing his back from her back as Mr Collins exited the lift. James coughed stepping aside from her, Harper noticed this mere movement as if she had just caught alight. Mr Collins smiled at Harper nodding his head slightly before walking over to James. "Mr Brewer. Could we speak in your office?" He asked. James nodded and began walking to his office not even looking back knowing it would only add suspicion, James cringed knowing he could have got caught.

Harper sighed before sitting down, she didn't know what to think, could this between them, be serious or is she just being naive just like any other PA's he's had?

James sat at the edge of his desk as he rolled his sleeves up, Mr Collins entered not even bothering to sit down as he stood patiently. He scratched his forehead. "The financial report you sent us to look at, we checked and its looking good for this upcoming year. " He said. James' nose wrinkled as if in disgust. "Is that all? You do realise we have something called email, I do hope you have something else to tell me." Mr Collins nodded before gulping as he looked down to his feet. "Mr Brewer, our department is running low on employees, our last good one has retired and we are lacking on department funding to fund interships." James rubbed his forehead. "You are all given the same budget. And there are plenty of people who are looking to get in here. I had whole applicants sent to me from top universities." Mr Collins nodded. "Yes,its just the ones who look valueable have still a few years before they leave thoes universites. So...I was wondering if..." He stuttered looking at the floor once again.

"What? Wondering if?" James said crossing his arms. Mr Collins coughed before saying. "I was wondering if Miss Daniels could be allocated to her original postion in this firm, she would help us very much." James cringed just hearing her name, his expression to Mr Collins became quite clear he was annoyed. James knew this was selfish to do so but he snapped. "No, I told you she is working in this postion till I am sure she will be valueable to this firm and secondly I expect if you want to keep your job, you WILL find someone to replace." Mr Collins had no way to argue back instead he nodded before he dismissed himself out of the door. He passed Harper giving her sympathetic smile before exiting through the lift.

James tensed just the thought of not having her close, yes she didn't even need to be working as his PA, she had already proved she was valueable enough even more so she was better than any of his other PAs that he only usually employed because of their looks rather than assests of skills. James pressed the intercom button calling out to Harper. "Miss Daniels, could you come in here?" Harper answered back. "Sure, Mr Brewer."

James undone his tie watching the door as he raked his hand through his hair. Harper opened the door entering before she watched as he strived across the other side of the room and pushed her against the door, his fingers brushed against her lips. Harper shook her head grabbing his hand as she closed her eyes looking down. "I-I..." She muttered before James cupped his hand around her cheek caressing it slowly. "What? Tell me please." He said softly. Harper relaxed against his touch settling her nerves before she mumured. "I just don't want this to be like any of your other PAs, I don't want to be messed about with, you'll get bored and move on." She turned her face away. "I shouldn't even being getting wrapped upon these affairs, I am your employee forgoodness sake." James tensed knowing she felt like that. "Harper." He muttered tilting her head to face him. "I won't do that, I promise..." He looked down before he met her eyes again. "Come with me." Harper frowned before he grapsed her hand into his, the feeling like it fitted like a glove before he pulled her out of his office and to the lifts. "I never usually do anything of such kind but I'll make a acceptation for you." He smiled before squeezing her hand encouraginly.

"What are you talking about?" Harper said. James pressed his lips against hers as they entered the lifts. He released her hand as soon as they touched ground floor but he strived through the crowds as they dispersed until he reached reception. "I'm going out. Tell any visitors I will not get back to them till this evening or tomorrow. Understood." He ordered. The woman nodded, the fear in her face before James ushered Harper to follow him. Harper struggled to keep with his large strides, she was confused as he unlocked his car and got in. Harper hesistated. "Where are you taking me?" James rolled his eyes playfully. "Miss Daniels, get in the car." Harper slowly got in before James started the engine. She glanced out the window before she looked over to the guy next to her as a grin was plastered upon his face.

James drove onwards passing the city as they entered onto the motorway, he was startled by his own change in manner but he didn't want the woman beside him to doubt what they were doing had harm. And the place he was going to had no press of such. Harper had confusion written upon her face as they passed off the motorway onto country lane roads, she looked over to him but in response he only smirked before he accerlerated causing Harper to clench onto the seatbelt. "Miss Daniels, enjoy the ride." He laughed. Harper closed her eyes as they zoomed through the country lanes overtaking other cars before when she opened her eyes again, James had stopped the car. Opening her eyes, she saw nothing but a empty field with what appeared to be hangars of some sort. "Where are we?" She asked. James said nothing but got out, a man with sunglasses approached the car smiling as he clasped hands with James of some sort of handshake. "She's ready as ever." He said. James smiled. "Good, I'm taking her for a ride, wind looks calm." The man looked to the sky smiling before walking off to a small building. James cocked his eyebrow before holding out his hand, Harper hesistated before feeling her hand grasp into his warmth. He pulled her along until they stopped at a hangar, she opened her eyes in shock for what was standing before she didn't expect, of course she expected with his expense but why he taken her here had her bewildered.

A small plane was parked within the hangar, her boss' name imprinted on the outside in bold font. James grinned facing her as he met her confused expression. "You said you didn't want to be like any of my other past...lovers. So take flight with me?" Harper gasped trying to interpret what was going on. "So is this like...a d-date? She stuttered. James cringed. "Personally I wouldn't call it that." He mumbled before speaking up." Well, you coming?" As if tying to change the subject, Harper looked at the plane. "Whoes taking us?" James chuckled. "Miss Daniels, I will be piloting, like I always." Harper turned on her heel to escape off, when James caught her as he wrapped her hands around her waist, she squealed as he kissed the side of her neck before grasping her hand as he pulled onto the plane. "Miss Daniels, you're in safe hands." Harper blushed before he got in guiding her to the front of the cockpit. Sitting down he placed a small set of headphones over her ears before putting the seatbelt over her chest, she felt her cheeks warm as she watched him.

He sat down fumbling with various buttons before speaking out. "Hold on." Harper smiled before she watched as the plane move out of the hangar onto to the green field, she glanced over to James who was smiling as he looked over to her. Butterfiles attacked her stomach as she closed her eyes that when she heard him call to her, she opened to see they were flying high in the sky just below the clouds. "Like it?" James asked. Harper beamed looking out the window as they soared through the sky. James looked over seeing the woman beside him smile in joy. "I bet this beats any date you've been on with any guy before?" He blurted smiling over to her. Harper laughed. "I thought you said this wasn't a date?" James grinned. "A man can change." Harper blushed as she felt his hand squeeze hers. Harper enjoyed how it was just the two of them alone, she had never felt this way about anyone before.

Harper relaxed back enjoying the ride much fascinated how one man could have this many skills. "What about work?" She asked. James looked over smirking. "Miss Daniels, I can afford to take much time off. I'm very few of the richest, besides you shouldn't be fussing. Just sit back and relax." He said before leaning over to kiss her cheek.

It seemed a hour before they approached ground floor upon the field again. James then took Harper back to his car as he drove back to the city but instead of taking her back to the firm, he stopped outside a small resturant. "Of course, I'm paying." James teased before getting out. Harper however did notice how he looked about, checking his surroundings before ushering her to follow. What was that all about she thought. James got them the best seat in the house, the waitress immediately made sure he had the best as she guided them to a table. James nodded at the waitress before he looked over to Harper. "Does this mean your stop worrying, Miss Daniels?" He muttered. Harper blushed smiling before the waitress returned back with drinks, specifically a bottle of wine and two flutes of glasses. Harper took a sip watching as he did so before he typed something upon his phone. Harper was intridguted to know more about him. "So, when did you learn to fly?" She smirked. James cocked his eyebrow. "A while ago." Harper looked down to her hands before she looked back up. "So is there anything else I don't know about you?" James took a sip from his glass. "What is this? Question time. I'd rather quick it all a mystery." Harper bit her lip as she looked away. She heard a slight growl. "I told you Miss Daniels, that's does something to me." Harper looked over noticing the glint in his eyes as he raked his hand through his hair.

The meals arrived she knew none of but it was sure he had exquisite taste. Harper sipped her drink as James frowned from something off his phone, he dropped his knife and fork as it clashed against the plate startling Harper. "What's up?" Harper mumbled. James tensed getting up as he threw his napkin down. "We need to go. Come." He ordered. Harper frowned but soon got up from the challenging stare he gave her. James threw money on the table before snaking through the tables towards the front doors. "Shit." He muttered as he noticed the gathering press outside, turning back around he met Harper ushering her to follow him. "Trust me?" He said. Harper studied his eyes before nodding, then in one sudden movement he grabbed her hand pulling her to what appeared the entrance to the kicthen doors. James forcefully moved through the kicthen, people shocked by the sudden entrance.

"Ay,ay!" One shouted. "You shouldn't be in here!" James didn't listen and moved onwards, Harper holding onto his hand as she tried to keep up. Harper looked behind but suddenly came into contact with a porter who was carrying dishes, the impact caused him to drop them to smash on the floor. Harper gasped wanting to help him or to plead her apology but was pulled away by James. Eventually he exited through a fire exit out into a alleyway. James pushed her against the far wall as they both catched their breath, Harper frowned at him before he started laughing. "It's not funny, I just made that man's job a lot harder than it needed to be." She grumbled. Harper soon couldn't hold in the laughter as she joined in. "Your making me more harder." He muttered making her blush as he brushed his fingers upon her lips before he held her jawline as his lips roughly claimed hers. His body pressed into hers as she wrapped her hands around his neck. Harper gave in as he hands trailed her body before releasing her lips and nibbling into her earlobe. She moaned as it felt so all right, she was completely under his command. James held his forhead against hers as they caught up with breath again but for different cirumstances. "You like the excitement, Miss Daniels?" He said, before straightening up as a black sports car drove up on the curb at the far end. James pulled her along to the car meeting Samuels at the wheel. Samuels began driving past the resturant where now she could see all commotion outside, was that the reason why they ran off? James was lucky this time he thought, he could have got caught but for sure he knew deep down inside even though he wouldn't admit it aloud, it was worth it.

James just had to be more careful, there was no way he was allowing this woman out of his sight.
