Chapter 1: How To Be Adventurous
I picked up my camouflage backpack after I just finished packing it with everything I needed. Today was my sixteenth birthday, and all I had ever wanted was to go on my own adventure-journey- what ever you want to call it. I was tired of doing the same thing every single week, I needed to have a purpose in life. A robot could live my life for me, that's how easy it is. That is why I also wanted to leave, and go out, maybe even see the world.
It was now six o'clock in the morning, the sun had just started rising. The cloudless sky, as pretty as ever, I thought as I closed the window to my first floor bedroom. Quietly, I walked through the bushes that were in front of my window. The black mulch was probably staining my black and white converse, but at the moment I didn't quite care.
Once I got to the end of our short driveway, I took off running. The brisk wind blew against my face as I ran probably making my cheeks red. The wind kept blowing in my face, getting stuck on my lip gloss. I hated when that happened, it was one of my biggest pet peeves.
After seven minutes of running I finally made it to the bus station in the center of our town. I took a seat on one of the three benches. Waiting for my ride, I took out my iPhone and scrolled through Pintrest. I looked up to see a teenage guy sitting down on the same bench I was on except he sat at the end. He wore a leather jacket, and blue shirt underneath it, and some washed jeans to finish off the look. But if wasn't necessarily his outfit I was staring at. It could have been his dark brown hair, or his tan complexion, but it was mostly his vivid, bright blue eyes.
I turned my attention back to my phone. After a few minutes of not hearing anything I started to feel someone's eyes on me so I looked back up to see him just staring at me.
"Can I help you?!" I said in an annoyed tone.
"No, not really. I'm just taking in the beautiful scenery." He said still staring at me.
Okay...weirdo.
I went back to my phone. It fell silent once again. Okay, now this is just getting awkward. I looked back up, turning off my phone.
"Okay, do you need something? Cause I'm just going to be blunt for a second and say: one this is awkward, two it's kind of creepy." I said trying to read what he was thinking. But all I saw was the same smile he has been giving me since he got here.
"I could use your name?" He asked turning more towards me. He had his right foot up on the knee of his left. He had that cool guy/bad boy look about him.
"What so you can stalk me?" I said sitting back a little and turning my attention back to the water fountain in the middle of the square.
"No, more like so I can address a lady like you properly," he said totally calm. I rolled my eyes and looked back at him.
"What do you mean 'lady like you'?" I asked looking back at him, one eyebrow raised.
"Well, you look like a smart girl, so I'll let you figure that out," he motioned his hand towards me.
"Uh... thanks!?" I said not quite sure how to take it. Anyways, the bus had just rolled up to the bus stop, so I wouldn't have to talk to him anymore. I picked up my backpack and put my phone in my back pocket. "Well bye?..." I said in my totally awkward voice. Why? I hate when I do that! And I do it all the time! What is wrong with me. So to make up for it I smiled.
"What makes you think, I'm staying?" He laughed. "I'm not just at this bus stop to talk to you, even thought that's 90 percent of the reason." He winked at me.
I was mentally face slapping myself. Stupid. Stupid. Moronic! Me. Of course he's at a bus stop to get on the bus. Why else would he possible come here?! I swear, I need to rope my imagination in.
"Let me guess your battling against yourself, trying to decide if I'm really that hot," he said, oh so casually.
I scrunched my face up.
"Ew... No! That would make me a stalker, too!" I said turning around and getting on the bus. I walked to the back of the bus, hoping he wouldn't come sit next to me.
But of course, because I'm totally jinxed! He comes and sits in the row across from me. I turned toward the window. Trying to get him the message. I. Don't . Want. To. Talk. To. You. Even though your probably the cutest boy I've ever talked to you. I hope I'm not drooling...
"So I never got your name? And since we're probably going to be on this bus for awhile, I probably should know your name?" He said leaning in the isle.
"It's Katherine..." I said smiling.
"That's not your real name." He smirked.
"How would you know?" I said confused as how he knows that.
"You don't look like a Katharine," he said putting his hands behind his head.
"My name's Missy Reis."
