The Birds
This is a scene I wrote based on the 1963 horror film 'The birds' by Alfred Hitchcock, ( the movie is about a town being attacked by birds ) this is the scene where Susan walks to the school to meet her friend and notices a massive flock of ravens when she arrives. ( this work is my interpretation of the scene)
Leaves bristled against towering trees, that loomed over the silent school yard. Floculent clouds crowded the pale blue sky, overshadowing the small school house. Susan walked slowly taking in the springs day, it was quiet almost too quiet.
Lighting a cigarette she looked out onto the tree littered green horizon, as she neared small school house voices could be heard ' now, now, now ' they sung.
Something caught her eye, looking up a small black figure crept into the frame. Turning her back Susan looked upon the dull caramel bricked building.
The children's song drifting through the air tangling with the smoke that seeped from her half burned out cigarette.
Susan found a strange comfort in the scene, feeling somewhat helpless,
it dawned on her that moment , that another instrument had drifted into the composition, out of place, like hitting a wrong note on the piano.
The sound increased drowning out the trill of voices and the swish of the swaying trees. Susan turned around slowly, curious yet afraid to discover what had caused the shift in atmosphere.
Black wings spread across the landscape flapping about, consuming the green field. Blinking, Susan took a step backwards.
Billows of smoke danced in the corner of her eye, in time to the thundering of her heart, the cigarette slipped from her shaking hands.
