Chapter 3

The next morning Blake got up at her normal time, had breakfast, got ready and then sat in the kitchen waiting for Archie. She had come to the conclusion that her twin brother was the most unorganised person in the world when it came to mornings. So, she sat waiting for him to finally get ready while their dad pottered around the kitchen.

"Hey, Dad. First day of school and I'm already late." Archie called as he eventually ran down the stairs. "Hey Vegas." He said as he patted their dog on the way into the kitchen.

"It's about time." Blake muttered under her breath as she put her phone away and stood up.

"Hey, you, uh, you stopping by the site later?" Their dad asked Archie as he walked to where the pair were stood.

"Dad, it's my first day." Archie reminded him as he put his books in his bag.

"Oh, we got to get you going in the office, so next summer you're not on the crew." Their dad replied.

"Well, I can't. I've got football try-outs." Archie said before noticing the look on their dad's face. "Or is that not okay?"

"No, it's, uh It's okay. Good luck." Their dad answered.

After that Blake and Archie set of on their walk to school. They had done it so many times that they could do it with their eyes closed. They joked about school and made small talk as they walked before Archie turned to her.

"You doing anything after school?"

"Track try-outs then I'm going to Pop's with Jughead." She told him as she fiddled with her backpack straps. "You doing anything after football?"

"Not got anything planned." He said.

"I wonder what school's gonna be like." Blake sighed.

"You worried people are gonna ask about Jason?" Archie asked. Blake and Jason Blossom had been friends for almost their whole lives. But, before Jason's death at the start of summer, on the last day of school they had gotten into an enormous fight in front of the whole school. No one knew what it was about; they all had their theories. Blake hadn't even told Archie or Jughead.

"Of course, I am. But I'm more worried about what people might say." She bit her lip.

"I wouldn't worry about anything they say, they didn't know him, Bee." He comforted her as they walked up the school steps and they saw Jughead waiting for her. "If you need me, just text." Archie said with a smile before walking off.

"Hey." Blake greeted Jughead with a smile.

"Do I want to know what that was about?" He asked referring to her and Archie's conversation.

"Jason." She muttered and he let the subject drop.

"Any plans for the day? And are we still on for Pop's?" He questioned as they walked into school.

"I've got track and yes we are." She assured him as his hand slipped into her own.

"Well, good luck for track but you will kill it." He smiled brightly.

"Thanks." She said returning the smile. "By the way, Archie already knows about us, he kinda cornered me last night."

Jughead momentarily stopped walking and Blake almost didn't realise. She tugged his hand and he started again. "Well, he didn't try to kill me just now, so, I will call that a success."

They were both cut off by the bell. "Shit, I'm supposed to be helping Betty give a tour. See you later." She quickly kissed him on the cheek before racing off.

She found Betty and the new girl just as they were walking away from Kevin. She was about to call them as they rounded the corner but Kevin caught her arm. "So, you and Jughead?" He asked with a sly smile.

"Yes, Kevin, now I'm supposed to be helping Betty. See you at lunch." She said running off and leaving Kevin to smirk before he followed after her. "Betty!" She called as she rounded the corner.

The blonde girl stopped and turned around. "Finally." Betty chuckled. "Veronica Lodge, Blake Andrews." Betty introduced the two girls.

Veronica extended a hand which Blake took with a smile. "Why does that name sound familiar?"

"I believe you met my twin brother last night." Blake said with a smile.

"Oh! The hottie we were with last night. The red-headed Ansel Elgort." Veronica said as they rounded a corner to actually see Archie at his locker. "Is he your boyfriend?" She queried.

"No, he's straight." Kevin told her.

"No, we're just friends." Betty said at the same time as Kevin.

"In that case, mind putting in a word?" Veronica stared at Archie as he walked away. "I've tried every flavour of boy but orange."

"Ew. Still my brother." Blake groaned as the three of them continued to stare.

"Actually, to clarify Betty and Archie aren't dating, but they are endgame." Kevin chimed in.

"You should ask him to the semiformal then." Veronica coaxed.

"She should, but I heard it might be getting cancelled. Because of what happened to Jason." Kevin told her. Blake tensed at the sound of his name but kept her composure. "They're gonna tell us at the assembly."

"Whose Jason and what happened to him?" Veronica queried.
