Chapter 17
"Thank you Mr Lupin. That was a very good try, Mr Lupin." James mimicked at Remus as they left the class.
"Leave off, Prongs." Peter mumbled. James rolled his eyes.
"Thanks a lot, Moony."
"For what? For winning us back the House points you and Padfoot lost?"
"For showing us up?"
"Showing you up?" Remus asked incredulously, now walking backwards to face James in his argument. "I was helping keep Gryffindor on level ground with the rest of the Houses. I'd hardly call that showing you up."
"I'm with Prongs on this, Moony."
"Of course you are." Remus snapped. "You two are best buddies, amigos, whatever you want to call it. Of course you're going to back him up."
"Moony, I'm with you." Peter said in an attempt to calm Remus down.
"Thanks Wormtail. You're the only one who seems to be able to see sense out of everyone here."
"You did show us up, Moony. You didn't have to go out in front of the whole class and-"
"I bloody well did. Did you not here me ask if I had to go up to the front?"
"I did."
"I know you did, Wormtail, you were sitting right next to me!" Remus closed his eyes and took deep breaths, counting to ten in his head. "I didn't show you two up. You showed yourselves up by acting like nursery kids in front of a new teacher and you paid the price for it. What are you trying to do, between this and skipping? Solidify your legacy as worst students at Hogwarts?"
"Hark who's talking. Mr I-can't-do-a-day-of-school-every-month-because-I-get-overwhelmed."
"It is a serious medical condition and-"
"Well it must be serious if you can get out of school without any repercussions." Sirius yelled over the top of Remus.
"You think I want this? You think I want to miss a day of school every single month? 12 days of learning missed every year?"
"Yes, I think you want that!"
"Who wouldn't?" James asked, joining. Peter whimpered under his breath and started half walking, half running away from the squabble. "Hell, I know I would."
"Yeah but you're you. I'm me and I nearly die one day every month." Remus yelled. He glared at Sirius and James and both boys thought they saw the shadow of something savage pass across his face. "That's why I skip for 12 hours with Professor Dumbledore's permission. Because I could very well either die or go into a coma if I don't. So leave me alone." Remus stopped short of actually growling at Sirius and James and stormed off.
"You seen him?"
Jame shook his head and Sirius sighed.
"Wormtail?" He asked, making Peter jump. "You seen Moony? At all today?"
Peter took the toothbrush out of his mouth. "No. Sorry." He went back into the bathroom to finish up. Sirius sighed again and fell back onto his bed.
"Where could he be?"
"Maybe something happened. You know, with his illness and everything."
"Yeah. That's what I'm worried about."
It was nearly midnight and the Gryffindor Common Room was silent. Something woke Remus up with a start. He curled his hands into fists to stop himself from scratching, his arm was itching so much it was burning.
"Are they asleep?" He wondered, looking out the window. The moon was hidden behind a cloud but he could tell that it was high in the sky. Must be pretty late. He collected himself and his books and slowly made his way up to the dorm room. Everyone asleep. Good.
He'd nearly outed himself today. He couldn't do that again. He didn't want to be rejected from school society. Again.
Hi. Angst. Have it. And I've wanted to write an argument scene for way too long.
Bye,
Blaize
