Mirrors in London

Welcome to London...

The year is 2089...

It is daytime...

".........................Wha?! Huh?!" Sara woke up in a storage closet in an unknown building. "Wh-what the hell?! What's going on?! How did I get here?!" The young fox stood up and frantically looked around. She jumped out of the storage room and found herself in what appears to be a cafeteria. And several bodies of humans on the ground. "What the fuck?!" Sara cried, suppressing the urge to barf. "What the fuck is going on here?! What's with all the human corpses?!!" Suddenly, her eyes caught a figure walking slowly on the other side of the window across the cafeteria. "A human?!" She cried in relief immediately replaced with anxiety. She's afraid of humans. Plus, she's pretty sure talking to humans would freak the human out. But, at this point, she wants answers. She ran towards the door next to the window and pushed it aside, calling out to the human, "Hey! Excuse me, mister?!" The human turned around and was really a zombie. As Sara's skin turned pale, the zombie sprinted towards her. "Oh my god!!!" Sara shrieked as she ran off, the zombie chasing after her. "Holy shit!! Holy shit!!" She screamed repeatedly. She then found herself standing in front of a wood chipper. She frantically turned around and saw the zombie sprinting towards her. She jumped out of the way and the zombie tripped and fell into the wood chipper. Sara then flipped a switch on the wood chipper and cut the zombie to pieces. The wood chipper spit out blood and intestines. "O-o-o-OH MY GOD!!!!" Sara shrieked in horror. "What the fuck?!! Was that a zombie?!!" She couldn't stop trembling in fear until she noticed everything around her. The entire area is a complete wasteland. Buildings are empty and cars parked on the streets are everywhere. No driver. No humans anywhere. And, Sara notices the Big Ben is missing its clock. Wh-what's going on?! Sara thought, horrified. Why am I in London?! And, why is London lifeless?! She looked under her and saw the words, Famine and destruction, painted on the street. She stared at them, dazed as heck. Then, she noticed that she can partly see through her arms. "Huh?!" She cried. "Wha-?! Why am I seeing through my fucking arms?!"  She began to tremble with increased fear. "Am I.........DEAD?!!" She couldn't think straight. "No! I can't be dead! I.......can't be dead, can I? Wait! If I'm dead, how could that zombie SEE me?!?"

"Brains!!" An inhuman voice screamed. Sara turned around and saw......a zombie fox that looks exactly like her. Sara tried to resist the urge to pass out. The zombie fox stared wide eyed at her and then scampered off. "Hey!" Sara called out. "Where are you going?!" She then shut herself up. What am I DOING?!! Getting a ZOMBIE'S attention?!! Am I really that insane?! She thought. "..........Hey, wait up!!" She began chasing after the zombie fox.

In another street, she jumps behind a mailbox as she saw another zombie just like the one that chased her. Omigod, omigod, omigod, what do I do?! She thought. .......It's just one zombie. I think I can take this one! She ran past the zombie screaming, "AAAAAAAHHH!!!"

She slowed down to catch her breath. "Fuck...!" She gasped. "I'll never find my zombie self! And, I'm not even sure that WAS my zombie self! Maybe I was just seeing things!" Then, she saw the zombie fox from earlier lurking next to an old pharmacy. "Hey!" Sara called out. The zombie fox scampered off. "Hey, wait! Damn it!" Sara snapped. "What's wrong with her?! I mean, what's wrong with me?" She then went after the zombie fox.

The zombie fox disappeared behind the Eiffel tower, which has apparently fallen on its side. And, is in London. "Wha-?! What's the Eiffel Tower doing in London?!" Sara cried, confused. "Nevermind that!" She ran under the tower and continued pursuing the zombie fox. The zombie fox disappeared again. Damn it! Where did she go?! Sara thought, before she continues running on the broken down street. She stopped dead in her tracks when she saw a zombie on the sidewalk next to her. A female zombie stood in front of the other zombie and pulled out his intestines and started sucking on them. "Ugh!" Sara cried out in disgust, as she took off.

Sara continued searching around the wasteland, looking for the zombie fox she still believes is her. With all the broken down buildings, cars filling most of the streets, trash and bugs on the ground, it was tough to find a way through the wasteland. Dear god, what do I have to do to find me?! She thought, stressed and dazed. What am I even saying?!? "GAAAAAAAAAHH!!!" An inhuman scream shrieked, causing Sara to jump. She turned around to see a hoard of zombies running directly at her. "OMIGOD!!!!!!" Sara screamed, as she scampered off. She kept running until she lost sight of the zombies. She jumped into an empty cafe and hid under one of the dusty booths. She could hear the zombie hoard passing by. Oh, geez, oh, geez, oh, geez! She thought, panicking. But, then something in front of her caught her eye: The zombie fox. "AAAAAAGH!!!" They both screamed. The zombie fox tried to take off, but Sara grabbed her fox tail with her mouth before she could. "Hey, let me go!!" The zombie fox growled. "I said let me go!!"

"No!" Sara growled back. "Not until I get an explanation!"

"Fine!" The zombie fox snarled. Sara let go and the zombie fox turned around and sat in front of Sara.

"Oh, my god!" Sara cried out. "You.....you ARE me! What the fuck?!"

"Yeah, and you're Santa Claus." Zombie Sara said sarcastically. "What do you want from me?!"

"I wanna know what the hell is going on?!" Sara cried. "What happened here?! Why did you run away from me?!! Why is London infested with zombies?! How the fuck did I end up in London?! I'm American! And, how am I dead?!"

"One question at a time!" Zombie Sara cried. "Please! I feel VERY uneasy literally talking to myself!"

"So do I!" Sara snapped rudely. "Wait, how are YOU talking normally?!? Aren't you a zombie?!"

"Spirits are able to talk to their zombie selves!" Zombie Sara said.

"And, how do you know this??" Sara asked.

"Will you quit asking questions?!" Zombie Sara snapped. "Do you wanna know what happened to London or not?!"

Sara stopped talking for once and listened.

"Ok..." Zombie Sara began. "I'll tell you. But, let me clarify first that it wasn't just London. The entire world's population has gone extinct as well." Sara's eyes were as big as dinner plates. "Anyway," Zombie Sara continued, "It started off with Dr. Zora Callins. He was an African who lived underground in Egypt. He was very cuckoo and has always made theories about the world's future. He has been arrested multiple times for selling medicine he made without a permit and was charged for manslaughter. And, at some point in the year, 2054, a global pandemic called SDOW 47, or the shadowvirus, struck the world, killing anyone in its path and also turning the infected into mindless zombies. Dr. Zora Callins himself was about to be executed because evidence was found in his underground bunker that he was the one who released the virus as a way to 'prove his theories to man.' Dr. Callins said that he has done a lot of bad things over the years and lied nonstop. But, he assured the authorities that he had nothing to do with SDOW 47 and that's the one thing he isn't lying about. He then promised the authorities that he would make a cure for the virus on the condition that he does not face execution. But, his cure research came to a halt when he discovered that he, in fact, did release the SDOW 47 virus. Two years before the SDOW 47 pandemic, he developed a very special vaccine that was supposed to help protect anyone from any upcoming virus epidemics and pandemics alike. The first person he tested it on was........well, I don't remember his or her name, but this person was the first, any only, person he tested the vaccine on. It slowly caused hazardous chemicals to release from the body into the air and people never knew what it was until dozens of people dropped dead on the streets and turned into rabid zombies. Instead of continuing to find the cure, Callins killed himself with a shotgun in the head and allowed the rest of human and animalkind to perish. All because of what he did..."

".........." Sara couldn't think of what to say. "..................No...!" Sara cried. "But, what about ME?! How did I end up here!"

"........................You're really gonna make me say it, aren't you?!" Zombie Sara snapped. "Fine! I lied, okay?! I do know who the first person Dr. Callins tested his vaccine on was! It wasn't even a person! It was a fox! It was you! Well, us..."

"No..!!" Sara cried in horror.

"You and your family were facing a crisis when, after you and your family snuck onto a private jet and crashed in the desert, all for what was supposed to be a nice family trip. One by one your family died of dehydration and starvation. You were the only one left and Dr. Callins discovered you and brought you to his bunker, offering you food and water if you tested his vaccine. You agreed, only for you to be offered little water and food after the vaccine was tested on you. You left his bunker and traveled everywhere, trying to survive. Looking for food and water. Rabbit and other prey you hunted died around you and you slowly turned into me, this zombie fox, once you reached London."

"So, it was me that caused this..." Sara said, horrified. "Oh, no...!" She trembled in fear. "Oh, noooooo!" She burst into tears as Zombie Sara watched. "No..... No............ What about you?" She asked, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Why did you try to run away from me?"

"Because if you talk to me, you're spirit disappears forever..." Zombie Sara said, much to Sara's horror. "No afterlife. Nothing. That's it. You'll disappear... I couldn't let you disappear. But, you wouldn't leave me alone. I'm sorry..." Sara laid down and buried her face in her paws, crying as her ghost body slowly faded away. "I'm a monster..." She said before she disappeared completely. Zombie Sara looked at the empty booth emotionlessly. Then, her expression turned to regret. "At least now, we clarified what happened, Sara..." she said to herself sadly. "It's the end of the world..."

THE END...
