Inhale
Waiting for the devil to call you to assign you a job, is like holding your breath underwater for an eternity. It determines your place in the family of demon brothers and sisters, your importance or value. And when you surface, you inhale life giving air. Well, I'm pretty sure that's how it feels to breathe fresh air, rather ash and smoke. It makes me gag, but you get used to it. I'm a lower class demon, yes, we have social classes down here in Hell. We're competitive,
We have the top class, which consists of the majors, demons with exceptional skills in influencing mortals to do unspeakable deeds, they look more primitive and dangerous. The middle class, the ones still learning to be convincing to the mortals, and the scouting legions for new victims. Each deed committed is basically like coal for Hell's furnace, it's the life blood of the system we have going down here. And don't think just because we live down here we don't feel like we're bathing in lava, because it's literally, hot as hell.
Anyways, I'm getting off task, being a Lower class demon is literally a shame title, it says you're in the deficient demons category, meaning you are next to worthless and can be discarded to feed Hades' Hell Child. Now don't start pitying us down here, we are independent.... usually. Now I can understand why I've landed myself here, I'm extremely clumsy, I've disturbed the life core of Hell and put everyone's entire existence in danger twice, and I probably would get an award for how many times I've tripped over my own feet, even though I can fly I'm one demon who prefers to walk. I'm very naive and easily manipulated as well, I've been tricked multiple times into doing dirty work of others.
My brother and sister are always there to remind me of things I forget, for one, not to tie my shoelaces on each foot together. According to my family, I'm a freak show, at first I couldn't tell if the statement was an insult or a compliment, but everyone seemed to agree with toothy grins, so I can only assume it's positive. They didn't call me a weirdo like they usually do, I'm smart enough to know that there's a difference. Although, I'm not really sure at all now that I think about it. We're all freaky, it's what we're made to be like. When I try to be scary though, other demons just laugh and point. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, am I not scary enough? I've never seen what I look like, but I'm a bit afraid to see anyways. I try to pull the same snarl as my older brother and sister, but they laugh at me too.
Anyways, I wake up to my sister shaking my arm frantically, she pulled me out of the comforts of my bed and out the door, I didn't even have anytime to process what was happening. It was all a big blur, and how did this lead me to talk about a job? Well, when I finally got a grip on my consciousness, I was placed in front of the very large royal gates to the devil's conference hall. Now, I bet you wonder how a lower class demon like myself had managed to get here. Well, I didn't get time to ask. Because I was summoned inside and the doors shut behind me. Before me stood the all powerful devil, our creator, our guide. I kneel before him, bowing my head in respect.
I was picked up in his hands, being lifted hundreds of feet off the ground. "Well, why if it isn't the demon who nearly killed us all twice?" The devil chuckled coldly, I tensed up keeping my head down. "I bet you're wondering why you're here? Well, I have a very special job for you. You'll love where you're going to do this special job I have." The devil laughed. "W-where...?" I asked quietly, shaking. "Well, that's a surprise little demon. Now, sign this..." The devil said as a scroll with writing on it appeared before me. I used the pen to write my signature before the scroll. This is it for me, I'm being sent as the main course for Hades' Hell Child.
"Now, I'm sending you the upper world to complete a very important mission for me, I want to give you a chance to redeem yourself for your....past mistakes. Don't mess this up, and I'll erase your records for forever." The devil grinned, I couldn't believe my ears. And before I could ask or even react, I felt my body fading and being lifted up into the air. Then I was blinded by a bright light, and I drifted in nothingness for awhile till I head something in the distance.
A whistling sound. And something that was making a chirping sound. I felt something brushing against my legs and arms, I swatted at the source, but nothing was there. Suddenly, strong feelings came rushing back to me as I felt myself laying flat against hard ground. My eyes shot open and I immediately inhale a deep breath of.... clean air?
