Temi's POV
That Lela Adams girl is quite something. Almost every girl here is head over heels for me and they'd do anything for me to notice them.
But, she doesn't care. She didn't even want to shake hands with me and whenever she looks at me, she shoots daggers with her eyes at me.
'She has guts.'
Well, I shouldn't care, there are lots of girls who want me. But then, there's something about her, I don't know. She seems daring and she's quite a beauty.
'Okay Temi, you are starting to sound like those guys in fairytale and in movies. Get a grip on yourself.'
Right from the time she sat at the table with the other kids from class, I kept staring at her. Initially she wasn't eating and I wondered why.
'Why was I concerned about that?'
She kept smiling, she looked so beautiful when she did. I was lost in the motions her lips made when she spoke. Those full lips.
'Why are you looking at her lips? Pervert.' I smiled to myself.
I think she noticed that someone was watching her. Because, she kept looking around with a worried expression. Then, she caught me staring at her. With the expression on her face, I think she was shocked to see me stare at her so intently. Then, she glared at me and averted her gaze.
She exchanged some words with four eyes and four eyes looked up to glare at me. I think she said something to Lela that made her, relax a bit and continued eating her meat pie.
I know I should stay away from this girl, but I don't think I'll be able to do that. I just feel a pull towards her. I wanted to talk to her.
I wanted to ask her why she hated me so much. What actually did four eyes tell her?
She was the one who started this 'staring business.' I wonder why she was looking so intently at me back there, in class.
"Temi, what's wrong?" I heard Edith asked. Her voice brought me back to the table.
"Huh?"
"What's wrong with you? You are not eating and you are not involved in any of the discussions." She nagged.
I glanced at everyone at the table. They seemed engrossed in their gists and jokes. Joel was laughing hard at a joke I missed.
"Nothing is wrong with me, Edith. And, I'm not very hungry." I answered as I turned my attention to Lela's table again. She and her friends were leaving the table and I frowned.
"What are you looking at?" Edith asked following my gaze.
"Nothing." I said removing my gaze but, it was too late.
"Her? What's going on between you and her, Temi?" Edith asked in loud whispers. There was a hint of jealousy in her voice.
"Who?" I pretended not to know who she was referring to.
"The Lela girl, duh."
"What? Nothing. Jesus. Edith, I just met this girl today. What could possibly be going on between us?" I asked briskly.
"I don't know, Temi. I'm just asking. Is just the way you look at her."
'Jealous. I swear she is. She can't be serious, though.'
"I don't look at her in any way. I don't know her, Edith. Why do you always act like you own me sef?" I was getting annoyed with her attitude.
Her mouth gaped open in shock. "I do not." She said.
"You do too. I'm not hungry anymore." I said as I stood up and walked away from the table.
"Temi" I heard Joel and the others call, but I didn't answer or turn back. I just walked out of the cafeteria.
*****
The last bell for the day went off.
"Finally." I said and Joel grinned.
I packed my books inside my backpack and swung it over my shoulders and so did Joel.
"By the way, dude. Why did you leave the cafeteria like that?" Joel asked as he punched my arm.
"Ouch." I said, rubbing my arm.
"Oooh, sorry. Did that hurt?" He snickered.
I stopped rubbing my arm and looked at him. I shook my head, "No. It didn't." I punched him back.
"Jeez. That was a death blow. How can you compare my hands to yours na?" He was pouted and it made him appear girly.
"Guy, cut that out. It's creepy." I grinned.
"What? I can't pout?" He pouted again and we burst into laughter.
"On a serious note. Why did you walk out on us like that?" He asked again. He looked serious.
"Because of Edith o. That girl has sworn never to let me be. She keeps controlling and nagging me like she's my wife or something."
Joel started laughing even before I finished speaking. This wasn't funny at all and seeing him laugh was getting me angry.
"Why are you laughing na? Do you think this is a joke?" I said with seriousness. But, he didn't stop laughing. He was leaning on me for support.
"I....I....I am very......sorry.......for laughing. But, its just-" And he burst into laughter again, his dimples became much visible as he laughed. I wanted to laugh as well but, it wasn't funny. It was only watching him laugh uncontrollably that seemed funny.
I hissed. "Get your hands off my shoulder. Meet me outside when you are done, laughing." I said. I shrugged his hand off my shoulder and walked away.
"Temi." I heard him call in between laughs. I didn't answer him but, I smiled to myself.
I passed by four eyes and Lela's seat on my way out. It was Lela's laughter that caught my attention. Why did it sound like music in my ears? I glanced at her quickly and I walked out of the classroom.
'So beautiful. What? Get a hold of yourself, Temi. You don't need this' I thought
