Chapter 1
Marcia Clemens, that is the name I was given. I was standing in front of the mirror a smile on my face as I got ready for the day. I had the perfect body shape, features, everything was perfect here it almost felt too good to be true. Standing in front of the mirror always gave me this unsettling feeling that something just wasn't right, that this world I lived in wasn't right. But as always I push that aside and not letting it get to me. I carry on and pop down the stairs to get some breakfast before I headed off to my first day of work.
It's summer break and I thought to busy myself I would get a job or at least a part time job at a local retail store near my house. Just walking distance. It's perfect because I don't have to waste money on gas to drive 2 minutes when I can walk for like 5 and save it.
~~~
"Hello" I said as a customer walked in. I'm restocking items on the shelf and re-folding clothes, the smile never leaving my face. Something didn't feel right. It hasn't, the older I get the more and more things start to feel like a lie, like this isn't real.
I finish doing my previous tasks when my boss asks me to go to the mirrors and make sure they are all dusted and fingerprint free. Most places don't care about that but my boss does he wants the store spotless. I obey his orders and head to the home decor section with some Windex, some dusting spray and two rags.
"Mar" I heard a faint voice say as I was cleaning the mirrors. I looked around and saw no one anywhere around me. It was quiet for a bit then the voice was heard again.
"Mar. Help! I don't like it here." I looked around frantically but still nothing. The voice would come and go at this point I figured it was my co-workers playing a joke on me. I swiftly stood up and looked around.
"Alright" I said with a pause. "This isn't funny so please stop. Just come out" I said sternly but nothing not a sound.
I walked down the isles near me and saw nothing no one but a couple customers.
"Are you okay dear" An elderly women asked.
"Y-yes ma'am I'm sorry" I said and walked away to finish my duties before my shift ended in 30 minutes.
The rest of my shift was spent timidly cleaning the mirrors and hoping that the voice was just my imagination.
But it sounded so real.... The voice was so familiar to. I don't know where I know it from but I can't shake the feeling. I can't stop replying what the faint voice said over and over in my head.
