Start the Countdown, Kamen Rider Digits!
(Carter's P.O.V/ Narration)
It's quite an odd world we would live in. While I may not live an exciting life, I live one where I feel I can make a bit of a difference. There are those who would be willing to do anything to hurt anyone around them. Nasty bunch people and while in truth not all people like that are inherently bad by choice, I can't deny that there are people that take advantage or do harm to others and if my friends happen to be caught in the middle then they'd best be prepared for when I stand up. That last time I ever did anything very serious was when I had a friend of mine being bullied by a bunch of randoms, so I chose to stand up and fighting the lead bully to try and stop them.
While I managed to save him, my actions at the time weren't the right choice and I ended up getting in trouble with the bully's parents. Fortunately for my friend, the bully was dealt with after being found out of multiple attempts at physically harming other people. As for me, I was as lucky as I got. My foster parents weren't mad at me, but the police placed me under house arrest for attempted assault. While my friend and foster parents were arguing that that the bully was the one to start it, I didn't say much.
Though I was still under house-arrest, I was still able to have some time to hang out with my friends online as well as get a bit of free-form fighting training while I was in the backyard. As I spent several weeks under this arrest, a single question kept echoing inside my head. One that I wasn't full sure of at the time, but it actually seemed like a good thought. "Do you ever wonder if there is a thing as other universes?"
(3rd-Person P.O.V)
As Carter goes out to the backyard, he begins to practice with some variety of defensive and offensive techniques ranging from the Parkour Roundhouse Kick, Palm-Guard, Vaulting Upper Cut and the Reverse Grapple. He's had spent some time to practicing his Palm-Guard alongside the Parkour Roundhouse Kick as he had experience with using the Palm-Guard to protect himself from various bullies and the Parkour Roundhouse Kick as a counter against them, however he barely had experience using a Reverse Grapple.
Carter: *vaults over a sawhorse before launching the Roundhouse Kick against a sparing dummy, breaking it's left arm off, panting* And... That should be... the last one.
Carter then looked upon several other broken sparing dummies. His time spent at home under house arrest gave him plenty of time to improve upon different techniques, however the problem at hand was how to execute them in actual combat as normal opponents would often dodge. As Carter didn't know what to do at the moment what with his flawed execution, he decided to go back inside and see if his friends are online.
As he entered the house, he noticed that his foster parents weren't there. Instead there was a note left on the refrigerator by his foster mother.
"Hi honey! Your father and I went out to buy some groceries for supper tonight. You will be on your own for a while. If your worried about people questioning where we are in terms of your house arrest, don't worry. I left an alibi in your desk drawer. See you home soon."
Carter: *sighs* Alone again. Naturally. *shrugs* Well at least they left me a note before they left.
Carter then clambered up the stairs towards his room before entering and turning on his computer and waiting to see if his friends were online. Fortunately some of his online friends were actually online at the moment. So he joined a group chat with them to see what they were up to and apparently they wanted to see if Carter was interested in playing some Fortnite with them for Shadow's live stream. He agreed as he didn't have anything better to do. Though he had a little rough start with some friends, Liza and Frag he managed to calm them down.
With that Carter soon logged on to Fortnite with his friends and started up a match. They weren't the best team out there, but they were at least a solid team due to there designated play styles. One a sniper, another a combat medic, another a master of demolition and as for Carter, the basic soldier. Shadow would often swap out with the one with the least amount of kills or whoever died first in game. As the matches went on during Shadow's live stream, the group managed to gain quite a bit of wins alongside a lot of losses but this particular match was a big one for them. They were playing on commandeering the mountain tops as the primary base of operations before taking the final kill on the last remaining squads. Within a few moments, they had set up a decent base with a double layer wood and metal body with two turrets mounted on both sides.
As the gang was busy dealing with keeping them from reaching the top with the turrets while Carter and Frag were holding off the grenadiers and the RPG men from the base. As they began to get closer to the last team alive, Carter soon noticed that despite there being only two other players besides his friends left he kept seeing a black-cloaked character standing out there outside the entrance of the base.
Carter: *thinking* 'Huh. That's weird. There's someone else alive besides those players on the other team...' *looks at the amount of player's alive* 'Wait, why isn't this person registered as alive on the game? Maybe it's just a glitch in the program.'
Carter was about to shoot down the mysterious player, but as much as he wanted to... he couldn't do it. The player didn't have any weapons or shields and his health bar was almost depleted, they were injured and had no means to protect themselves. While he didn't want to sabotage his team's chance to win, he also couldn't just attack a defenseless player. So without thinking, he gave the player a med-kit, a leftover large shield potion and a pistol he had leftover. Without a single word, the player looked up above his character's head almost as if they were looking right at Carter himself. Then out of nowhere, the game suddenly crashed.
Carter: *shocked* What the heck?! Why'd my game crash? This game isn't that new, it shouldn't have these kinds of bugs.
Before Carter had a chance to wrap his mind about what happened, he soon received an invite to a chat by a person by the name of Unknown. He wasn't sure at the time about who this person was. A hacker? An online stalker? Or just some random person online, but as much as he didn't want to Carter soon found himself accepting the chat with the mysterious person.
Unknown: Greetings. I've been waiting for you. Sorry to crash your live stream like that, but right now I need to have a word with you, Carter Grandal.
Cross-Z EvolutionX (Carter): H-Huh?! You know my name?!
Unknown: Of course. I've been watching your previous live streams for quite some time now. Not to mention, I've also been tracking every piece of info online about you. Now before you say anything, no I am NOT a stalker. I've just been looking for people to help me with something important.
Cross-Z EvolutionX: ... What kind of something?
Unknown: I'm looking for people to become a type of hero in order to save my world from a great threat which secretly is waiting to attack us and destroy my home. -_- And before you ask, no. This is not a scam or any thing like that.
Cross-Z EvolutionX: So you crashed my game during my friend's live stream, just to ask me that?
Unknown: Believe me, if I had any other means of contacting you beside online chatting I would do so but after you were placed under house arrest after you tried to save your friend there wasn't much I could do. So I decided to observe you from the online perspective.
Cross-Z EvolutionX: Wait... How'd you know about my house arrest?!
Unknown: Like I said, I've been also tracking info about you online. You've done a lot for your friends, not to mention anyone that you have close to you. Is it true you once broke another person's jaw because they threatened a friend of yours?
Cross-Z EvolutionX: I didn't break his jaw, okay?! I was trying to stop him from trying to break one of my friend's leg and I never meant to hurt the guy!
Unknown: I know. Your not the kind of person... Listen, I know that what I'm saying isn't making much sense, but in truth I truly believe that you are one of the heroes that can stop this great threat. Your kind and brave heart is one of three pieces of an ancient prophecy from my world about heroes such as yourself. I'm not asking you to believe me. I'm asking for your help. Please...
Carter wasn't even sure what to think about this. First this random person appears on his game and crashes his game with his friends after he gave him some of his items out of the kindness in his heart and then asks him to join up with him in a completely different world to become some type of hero? It sounded absolutely crazy..., but he wasn't sure if he wasn't being completely dishonest either. He couldn't say for sure if the person on the other line was being honest about this whole, "saving a world from destruction" thing or if they were being crazy. Just as he was about to reply, Unknown soon responded first.
Unknown: You seem unsure right now. I can understand that, but if you aren't sure at the moment let me show you something that might convince you. The second drawer to the right on your desk. Open it.
Carter, confused about the person's request soon complied and open the desk drawer specified. As he look in the drawer, he found some of his usual stuff. Paper, some spiral note books, his recorded training journal, a small piggybank and some stored away candy. As he was wondering why Unknown told him to do this, he soon noticed a strange object lying atop his journal.
As Carter reached for the object, it began to glow faintly with a deep blue light. Once he picked it up, the object stopped glowing leaving him confused still, but not completely as he knew about the object in question. As he had seen some of Japanese drama it came from.
Carter: *thinking* 'A Blank Ridewatch? Isn't this a prop from Kamen Rider Zi-O? I don't remember getting one of these? Why is it in my desk drawer... and why doesn't it feel like a prop?'
As Carter began to wonder why this object from something that shouldn't be real was inside his desk drawer, Unknown soon responded again.
Unknown: Did you find it? If you did, how did it react?
Cross-Z EvolutionX: Y-yeah. I found it. It kinda glowed until I picked it up. Is that normal?
Unknown: I knew it! The Ridewatch resonated with your presence when you came in contact. Listen, I don't have much time before this line disconnects itself. I'm gonna give you two choices. You can either stay here and forget this conversation ever happened and the Ridewatch will disappear or you can choose to come to my world and find out why this is happening to you and who you "really" are. You have two minutes to decide!
Carter: *shocked tone* What?! Who I... really am?
To Carter, none of this was making sense. Who he really was?! What did they mean by that and why would they say that? What could they possibly mean by that and what does this have to do with the Blank Ridewatch? Nothing was making any sense to him and the added timer to decide was only making things harder for him. As it came down to the thirty second mark, he wasn't sure what to do until...
Cross-Z EvolutionX: Okay... I chose to accept your request.
Unknown: ^W^ Glad you did. I thought that you'd chose to stay here and be oblivious about everything, good thing I'm not one to doubt my choices.
Cross-Z EvolutionX: I just don't want to be a bad person. One question though, how am I gonna get to your world?
Unknown: Oh, don't worry about that. That will be dealt with right now.
Before Carter could reply the room around him began to dissipate and he then felt as if he was falling.
(Carter's P.O.V)
I could feel myself free-falling. I wasn't sure what was happening that got me into this mess after accepting that "Unknown" person's request. As I continued to fall down in what felt like an endless abyss, I soon noticed a light at the bottom of the fall. As I fell into the light, I could feel the wind blowing to my back. The light in question was sunlight as I soon found myself free-falling down toward a completely different world. It looked almost the same as Earth except it seemed more beautiful then back home. I would want to take more time to observe this new world if I wasn't in the middle of what felt like a skydiving lesson with no parachute. As I began to look for a means of a soft landing, fortunately I soon noticed a lake right below me in the forest.
Carter: *spreads arms in a means to slow his decent* Got to aim for that lake!
As the ground began to get closer and closer, I did my best to maneuver myself to hit the lake square in the middle to avoid any injuries from fall damage which surprisingly went well as I managed to achieve splash down, but as I tried to swim towards the surface my clothes suddenly felt unbearably heavier for an unknown reason. I didn't know why they were so heavy all of a sudden, they weren't waterlogged as I just landed in the water. I was so confused and scared as I tried to swim up for air. Thinking that I might be able to lose some weight by dropping the jacket I was wearing, I could probably swim up to the surface since it felt more heavier then most of my clothes. I tried to throw my jacket off, but it felt like it weighed a twenty bricks and an iron girder. Though I was scared of drowning, I soon found the strength I needed to get my jacket off as it sank to the bottom of the lake like a girder.
Once I ditched my jacket, I just able to reach the surface as I gasped for air as I swam to shore. When I pulled myself onto shore, my clothes still felt heavier than they should be. I was still unsure why, but before I could question myself further I soon heard a voice.
???: Huh, I was pretty sure you'd mess up on the landing but no. That was a solid A+ landing. Also I was kind of surprised that you're still able to move with all that weight on your back.
I soon looked up to see a girl in a blue and black hooded cloak with leaf green bangs staring at me as I struggled to stand up with all this weight on my body.
Carter: *groans* Who... are you?
???: Don't you remember? I'm the one who you had a chat with back home and gave you that Ridewatch.
Carter: *confused tone* You're Unknown?
Unknown: Yep. Now that we got face-to-face introductions over with, I'm gonna need you to strip.
Carter: *blushes, confused tone* W-what?! I know you just met me, b-but I don't like you like that and I don't swing that way!
Unknown: Hehehehe. Oh no. It's nothing like that. Your old clothes won't be very usable for you now that their specific weight has been changed. *pulls out a new set of clothes* So I brought you a new set of clothes to make your life a little easier.
Carter: O-oh. *scratches the back of his head before grabbing the clothes* I thought for sure that you were...
Unknown: Nope. Just wanted to deliver you some new clothes, although I could have phrased my words a little better.
After that little awkward moment, I began to swap my old clothes for the ones that Unknown gave me. Surprisingly these new clothes weighed like actual clothes especially this new hoodie, but I still wasn't sure as to why my old clothes weighed so much and then I soon found out why. When I looked at my reflection in the lake. My entire body had completely change and my eyes looked like something out of an anime.
Unknown: I know you're confused, but I do my best to explain it to you what happened to you. First off, I would like to welcome you to Teora. Right now, we're in the forests residing within the territory of kingdom of Gwain. Next I'm sure you've noticed that your body's may have undergone some changes. What you are right now is our own native species known as a Teoran.
Carter: A Teoran? What does that mean?
Unknown: Well.. if you were still a human, then it would have been more "difficult" for you to roam around as most of our people see your kind as a threat. As for why you've turned into a Teoran,... I can't say for sure.
Carter: *confused tone* What do you mean by, "You can't say for sure?"
Unknown: *pulls out an old piece of paper* Well the spell I used to bring you here is... well it's kind of ancient. *shows Carter* This spell dates back several years. Far back during the first years of Queen Wain's rule as queen, but that's not important right now. As a Teoran, you now possess elemental magic but there might be a problem for me to distinguish what kind of magic you now wield.
Carter: *confused tone* What do you mean?
Unknown: Well a Teoran's magic and element are mostly distinguishable based on the color of both their hair and eyes since their usual both the same, but since your hair and eyes are both different I can't determine what type of element you now wield.
Carter: Then how will I know what element I have?
Unknown: Well I do have an idea of how to test that theory. Try and focus your energy and see what happens.
I wasn't sure what "would" happen, but I was already going along with this whole thing, I could at least give it a shot. I took a deep breath and began to focus this new power as I tried to do something. As I began focusing every ounce of concentration I had, I soon heard a faint "bloop" sound from my hands. It was a small bubble made entirely of water briefly floated in my palm before popping and splashing water in my hand.
Unknown: That's clinches it. Your primary element is definitely water.
Carter: *confused tone* Well... now what?
Before Unknown could answer, we then heard the sound of a girl's scream and birds flying from the trees.
Unknown: What the heck was that?!
Carter: Someone must be in trouble. *serious tone* I have to go find out!
Unknown: Hold on a minute! You forgot something.
As I turned around to face Unknown, she tossed me a strange device which I found too familiar. Since she already gave me a Ridewatch, I knew all too well what she gave me.
Unknown: Your welcome to Teora gift. You might need it.
Carter: *smile before waving back to her* Thanks.
After I thanked Unknown for giving me the Ziku Driver, I soon raced into the direction of the scream. Bounding through the forest, trying to locate the owner of the scream but since the scream was pretty far it made things harder for me find an exact location. As I struggled to navigate the forest for any sign of a person, I soon found a clearing where I soon came face-to-face with the owner of the scream... and she wasn't alone.
The girl had long pink hair and pink eye while wearing a white dress and most noticeably a high-tech head band that made her look like she had cat ears.
As for the boy hanging from the vines, he was human with pale skin and an average height, white hair, long black pupil, wearing a white undershirt with a black jacket, black pants and boots.
(Like this minus the Visor and the EXE-Blade)
The girl seemed kind of curious in the mysterious boy, but also kind as she tried to help him down. She did..., but the boy managed to somehow crack the ground as he landed. I wasn't sure if this was a side-effect of humans coming to Teora. I wanted to get a closer look and hear what they had to say when I accidently stepped on a fallen branch which snapped and caught their attention.
Carter: Um... Hi?
Surprisingly they seemed kind of calm especially since I just showed out of nowhere. As I was going to ask about them, I soon noticed a sketchbook lying in a similar impact in the ground. The girl then grabbed the sketchbook with a little resistance as she pulled it out of the ground. On the back of it above the generic notebook stuff, the word Geo was said. As for the front, it seemed to be a sketch of a city... and a pretty good one at that. I was going to attempt to talk to "Geo" when accidentally knocked over some trees like a set of dominos.
Carter: Huh... *looks at the girl* You don't see "that" everyday.
As for the girl, she seemed to be writing something down on the sketchbook. She seemed to write in an unknown language that I couldn't understand before showing it to Geo. I knew he didn't understand what she wrote as much as me, but then she manage to surprise me by writing in various other languages such as Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and various other languages until she finish with a word in English cursive. "Ami"
Carter: "Ami?" Is that your name?
She just nodded in response, but soon her eyes widen with curiosity as she was looking at me and Geo... and I soon noticed that her eyes were bigger then mine. I wasn't sure if these two had a speech-impediment or something but neither seemed to say a word which made things a little uncomfortable for me and Geo. Then without warning, Ami then took a hold of Geo's hand and the three of us soon found ourselves exploring this world... and I could say for sure that I've never seen anything like it. It had countless wonders I had never seen before as well as creatures you couldn't believe unless seen. Soon we found ourselves atop a flat-topped mountain witnessing the most beautiful sunset unlike anything I've ever seen.
Soon we found ourselves back in the forest around nightfall under the full moon. Geo and I were just taking in the sights and Ami was snacking on a fruit she found when she stopped us. I wasn't sure why until I saw a small glow in the brush as she dash off towards it.
Carter: Ami wait! Be careful.
Unfortunately she accidentally stepped on something and that "something" happened to be a large wolf monster which she accidentally woke up. I knew that it would hurt Ami if we didn't do something. I then threw a ball of water which splashed the beast and caught it's attention toward me and Geo.
Carter: *shouting* Hey wolfie! Over here!
Sadly I didn't take into account that the wolf could shot balls of energy from it's mouth. The aforementioned ball hitting Geo directly and knocked him unconscious. In retaliation, I then shot another water ball at the wolf causing it to charge at me. In response I decided to play chicken and charged at the wolf head on. The wolf began to charge up another shot, but I didn't stop charging at it. As it fired off another blast, I then went for sliding dodge before hitting the wolf with an uppercut to the jaw... It wasn't very effective... and I may have just made it more angry at me.
The wolf was about to take a point-blank shot at me and I didn't know what to do. I closed my eyes and held my right hand out to block it, waiting for it to attack... Nothing happened. I slowly opened my eyes to see that... I was shooting a stream of water from my hand which sent the wolf flying back. I soon felt exhausted, probably from that attack I used. I then started walking toward Ami and Geo when out of nowhere, a figure put Ami in a headlock.
Carter: *shocked tone* Ami!
I then got a glimpse at the figure as they were laughing as they walked out into the moonlight, only for my eyes to widen in further shock. I saw something that I had hoped I would never see as a real thing. An Another Rider.
Another Hibiki: *evil laughter* Well well, what do we have here? Trespassers? In my forest?!
Carter: *serious tone* What are you talking about? This isn't your forest. Let the girl go!
Another Hibiki: *scoffs* And what are you gonna do about it? Fight me? *tosses Ami to the sided and arms himself* If so, then try at least make this interesting.
In response, I charged at Another Hibiki and tried to land a hit or two but I soon found myself met with bashes from his Club Sticks as he knocked me down to the ground as I struggled to stand up.
Another Hibiki: Alright. *ignites his clubs on fire* I'm about done with you. I think it's about time I finished this. Kibojustu: Rekkandan!
I was then hit by two powerful fireballs directly in the face and the stomach as I fell back to the ground, coughing up a bit of blood as I felt myself starting to lose consciousness.
Carter: *coughs* Damn... it! *struggles to reach out* A..mi.
I passed out as the last thing I could see was Ami being kidnapped by Another Hibiki... When I came to, Geo was no where to be see. I wasn't sure if he had woken up before me..., but in truth it didn't matter. I couldn't do anything to stop that Another Rider. After all, I'm not a Kamen Rider. Even if I possess a Driver, without a functioning Ridewatch I can't transform...
Carter: *realization, thinking* 'Wait... weren't there three different methods to creating a Ridewatch? Getting it from the original rider, having it ejected from an Another Rider and... Of course! *pulls out the Blank Ridewatch* The third method.'
I then began to try and focus what energy I still had left and pour it into the watch itself, but that wouldn't be enough. I also had to use my own will in order create it as I have to will it into existence. I started focusing every ounce of willpower I had, trying to create a Ridewatch but nothing was working. It glowed at times, but nothing happened. Even so I kept trying, hoping to successfully create it.
Carter: *panting* One... more... time. *closes eyes, thinking* 'Please let this work. Please! I don't care if I become a Kamen Rider! I don't care if I fail to stop that Another Rider! Just give me the strength I need to save Ami and Geo! To save my friends! Please!!'
I then heard a faint sound from the watch before I opening my eyes... In the palm of my hands, the Ridewatch's appearance had changed. It's body had changed color from black to blue and it now had a deep blue dial on top of it with a symbol I hadn't seen and the corresponding year to my current date... I did it. I created my own Ridewatch.
Wasting no time, I started searching for Ami and Geo. This forest was very big, but I wouldn't let it stop me from finding them. I soon heard the sound of faint explosions not to far off from where I currently was to the southeast. Without thinking, I raced towards the explosions until I came to a clearing. There I could see Ami, lying on the ground unconscious, Geo wearing a visor and taking hits from the wolves and Another Hibiki about to hit Geo dead-on with the same attack he used to injure me. Before he could get the chance, I rushed straight in the line of fire as Another Hibiki commanded the wolves to stop.
Another Hibiki: Oh... It's you again. Here to get beat again? *taunts* If so, then beat it. I don't fight weaklings who can't entertain me.
Carter: *turns to face Geo, smiles* Hey, Geo. Sorry I'm a bit late. *looks over at Ami* Is she alright?
Geo: *nods in response*
Carter: *deep breath* That's a relief. Listen. I want you to take care of the wolves. *pulls out the Ziku Driver* I'll deal with Another Hibiki.
Another Hibiki: *laughs* You? Deal with me? Yeah right. *points his club* Last time, you tried to "deal with me" I mopped the floor with you.
Carter: *equips the driver and pulls out the new Ridewatch, serious tone* You got lucky last time. "This time" I won't let you lay a finger on my friends.
I then spun the dial to reveal a face and pushed the button on top.
*Electronic Beeping* Digits!
I then slid the watch onto my driver as it soon made a standby sound similar to Woz Ginga. I then did a transformation pose in a tribute to that of Kamen Rider Build.
Carter: Henshin! *spins the driver*
Rider Time! (Techno Rhythm) Kamen Rider Di-git-us! Digitus!
I could feel a whole new power flow through me as I felt the armor form around me. I didn't know how to feel, but I knew one thing. I had to defeat Another Hibiki.
Another Hibiki: *shocked tone* Who the heck are you?
Carter: Digits. Kamen Rider Digits. This time this battle starts at Zero!
Another Hibiki: *annoyed tone* That's how long you have to live!
Another Hibiki then rushed at me, but this time I could actually handle him. As he tried to strike me with his clubs, I used my quick foot work to counter blow for blow until I managed to disarm them. He then grappled me and opened his mouth as I could see fire building inside his throat. I tried to break free by throwing a variety of punches and kicks, but their grip was too strong. I thought for sure I would be fried, but then Another Hibiki's grip broke. I then saw that they were somehow stunned. I wasn't sure why until I turned around to see Ami who had transformed her headband into a bow and her eyes glowing with Geo watching on the side, having defeated the wolves.
Another Hibiki: *anger tone* I won't... lose to you! You're all weaker then me!
Carter: *points at them* The only weak one here... is you! *pushes the button*
Finish Time!
I then spun the driver around again before rushing and then jumping at Another Hibiki.
Time Burst!
I then landed a Rider Kick directly onto Another Hibiki before landing and looking at a Fake Ridewatch as it showed a recorded time.
Carter: 1:02. Your time's up!
Another Hibiki then roared out in defeat before falling over in defeat and exploding. After I de-henshined I soon reunited with Ami and Geo. Ami appeared to be completely fine as for Geo, he was a little roughed up but okay regardless.
Carter: *looks at Ami and Geo* I'm glad you two are okay.
Ami in response, gave me a friendly hug while Geo gave me a thumbs up for all my hard work. As Ami let go of me, she then place something in my right hand... it appeared to be a small magic crystal... well smaller then the one Geo somehow got, but regardless I knew this meant something. Next thing we knew we were heading off to what I assume was Ami's home... Although I think the entrance seem pretty threatening.
Next time on Mirai Gwain Riders!
???: We've got an intruder.
Carter: Why did you attack Geo?!
???: This land... This kingdom... I'll burn it to the ground!
Carter: "I've got a feeling I can't lose!"
