Fifteen - The Chapter Where Everything Goes Downhill
Marinette's POV
I brought Adrien to my house and he passed out in my bed last night. I didn't want him to go back to his home after everything that happened. He still doesn't want to believe that his dad is Hawkmoth, but he doesn't have a choice. He has to come to terms with what happened, and I need him to move on. Now, Luka and Adrien are sitting on my couch forming a plan on how to beat Hawkmoth.
"I say let's just burst into the Agreste Mansion and see how they react. Gabriel would be shocked and would transform into Hawkmoth, and lead us down to his lair," Luka suggests.
I gasp and remember Chat Blanc. "I wouldn't suggest that. Just trust me."
Adrien looks confused, but then nods. "Okay, how about telling the police and seeing what they would do?"
"Wow Adrien, ratting your dad out to the cops! I like it!" Luka says with a smirk.
"Come on, Luka!" I say, rolling my eyes, "Anyways, what could the police do in the first place? This guy can turn people into vampires. Vampires!"
Adrien laughs. "Trust me, I know."
"Ha-ha," I sarcastically laugh, throwing a pillow at my boyfriend.
"He knows which ones are vampires too, which is how he knows you're Chat Noir," Luka adds.
"Alright princess, what's your idea then?" Adrien replies.
I smile. "You trick him. Tell him you want to join him and see what he's up to."
Adrien's eyes grow wide. "W-what?! I can't do that! Besides, he wouldn't let me just walk into his secret lair or what not!"
"Trick him into thinking you're really a evil vampire then," I say, shrugging.
Adrien stands up tensely. "Vampires are monsters. I can't do that."
"You and I both are one, Adrien. It couldn't be that hard. Why not?" Luka asks.
Adrien crosses his arms and looks away. "Look, it's super weird."
I roll my eyes. "Oh yeah? Like what, you're afraid that you'll glitter in the sun like that Edward guy?"
Adrien whips his head around and looks at me dead in the eyes. "No, Marinette, it's because I'm afraid I'll get addicted to blood just like all of the other akumas."
Luka snickers. "Oh, so you're Stefan now? Is Marinette your Elena?"
"I'm serious!" Adrien snaps.
I stand up and hold Adrien's hand. "Look, Adrien, I swear, it will be fine. Nothing will happen. Your dad won't make you kill anyone."
"You don't know my father. If he knows I'm Chat Noir, than he's going to need proof that I'm actually on his side."
"Easy," Luka interrupts. "Just bite Marinette and he'll believe you."
"Thanks for the volunteer!" I sarcastically reply.
Adrien freezes. "That might work."
Luka stops laughing.
"We'll play it off like Marinette is some random chick, and then I come and bite you. I report to Hawkmoth that I killed you, and boom, he thinks I'm on his side."
I nod. "This just might work."
We begin to discus our plan when suddenly the doorbell rings. I immediately jump up and point downstairs.
"I'm going to go get it," I explain, starting to walk downstairs. "Keep it quiet, my parents don't know Luka's here!"
"Awww, no drinking from you today?" Adrien asks, flashing his vangs. "I was really craving some type O blood today..."
"You weirdo! Just stay quiet upstairs!"
The boys nod. I smile and start to descend down the stairs. I walk by my parents room, and notice them both working. I don't want to bother them, so I'll just go open the door myself. I walk by the bakery and I smell the fresh smell of cookies. Even though we're not open yet, I can see why customers want to get here as soon as they can. I open the door and the sun beams down on my face before I see who it is.
I smile and close my eyes. "Hello! Welcome to the Dupain-Cheng bakery. We're not open yet, but -"
"Ms. Dupain-Cheng, correct?" the voice interrupts.
I slowly look up, and feel my heart drop in my chest. "G-Gabriel Agreste?"
My chest feels hallow and I take a step back. This is hawkmoth. Hawkmoth is at my door. This is the villain I've been fighting all along, and he's at my freaking door. Once I notice all of his features I quickly realize how similar he is to Hawkmoth. How did I never see this before?
"Stop wasting my time, Ms. Dupain-Cheng. Is my son here?"
"W-Well, you see, I - "
"Marinette!" Gabriel screams at me. "Answer the question!"
I feel the fury rise up in my veins, and I quickly snap. "If you weren't such a bad father, maybe you would know where he is."
I try and slam the door in his face, but he catches it right before it shuts. He quickly grabs my arm and yanks me out in the street. I tumble and fall onto the ground. He shuts the door, then turns to me. He grabs my arm and pulls me up.
"Answer the question, Dupain-Cheng."
"E-Excuse me?!" I yell, taking several steps back.
"You're a threat to me and my family. Answer the question."
"No!" I scream, anger boiling inside me. "I'm not a threat to the family if the family doesn't exist."
Adrien quickly bursts through the front door, looks at me with concern, then looks at his father with anger. I notice his eyes grow a darker red than normal.
"FATHER?!" He angrily shouts. "WHAT THE HELL?!"
Gabriel grumbles and lets go of my wrists, pushing me backwards. I tumble to the floor, and Gabriel looks down upon me. Adrien takes a step forward. He looks at his father, then me. He subtly nods. My eyes widen and I feel shock run through my body. I realize he's going to what he wants to do. He's going to go through with the plan.
"Adrien, you are never allowed to see Marinette again," Gabriel announces coldly.
Adrien tries not to react to show that he's still on his father's side, but I know he's hurt.
"Yes, father," Adrien whispers, his voice cracking. "There's... there's nothing between us."
I feel a shiver run down my spine. This feels too real. I know it's a lie for Adrien to show his father that he doesn't care about me, but it still hurts.
I stand up as Adrien reluctantly gets in the car and shuts the door. I watch as his bodyguard slowly drives them away. Before he's completely out of sight, Adrien mouths the words 'I love you.' I smile, and mouth it back. He keeps a smile on his face, but I can't help but notice how unhappy and trapped he looks. Does he feel like this all the time?
Luka busts out the door and frantically sprints to me. "Where'd Adrien go?!"
I look away from the limo and look back at Luka. "Gone. His father found out he was at my house, and he freaked."
"Is he going to go through the plan?!" Luka urgently asks.
I nod.
"The plan that we haven't even finished making?!"
I look away into the city of Paris. "Yep. That's the one."
Luka's shoulders drop, and his face fills with disbelief. "Oh my god. Adrien is going to walk into the evil vampire villain's lair, yet he doesn't even know what he's doing."
I noticed the morning dew on the plants, and how it looked with the early light bouncing off of it. The morning wind blew through the streets and brushed against my cheeks. I felt a chill run down my spine, but it wasn't from the wind.
Adrien's POV
My father sits across from me, and I feel the tension building up. He asks my bodyguard to close the window separating the driver from the rider, and my bodyguard obeys. I watch as the window closes, and as soon as it shuts, my father begins talking.
"I know about you," he announces, waiting for my reaction.
I roll my eyes. "Yep, I know that."
"No, Adrien, I know that you're Chat Noir," he angrily announces. "I know that you're a vampire!"
I sigh. This is too fun. "Old news."
Father freezes. He quickly adjusts his glasses, to hide the fact that he has emotions. I just roll my eyes again. Why does this guy want to hide everything from me?
"Anyways -" he begins, clearing his throat. "- I have something to tell you too."
"Oh my god, are you Ladybug?!" I sarcastically ask.
"Adrien, this is serious!" He scolds.
"Oooh, or how about Hawkmoth?! Do you plan on turning everyone into a vampire, even your own son?" I question, turning my head to stare at him dead in the eyes.
I smile. Checkmate.
He looks out the window. "I'm doing it for you mother, you know."
I feel my heart drop.
"M-Mom?" I question, trying to remain calm.
"If someone obtains all the miraculous, they can make a wish. I would wish for Emilie to come back to us," he explains, his voice tinted with a little bit of sadness.
(A/N: i changed it to the holder must have all the miraculous; it will make sense for the plot later on)
"You want to use the wish to bring Mom back?!" I whisper.
He nods. "I loved her dearly. Everyday without her is painful. I can't stand it."
Okay. Now I have to carry out the plan. I need to act like I'm on his side.
"Could... could you show me where you akumatize victims and turn them into vampires?" I ask looking away. It's almost impossible to lie to my father.
He nods.
We reach the mansion, and my father walks inside the building. He doesn't say hello to Natalie, and instead, shoos her away. He opens his office door. I quickly realize how I've almost never been in this room. He walks over to the portrait of Emilie Agreste, my mom. Suddenly, I hear him click something. I look over and notice my father press a pattern of buttons to get to the lair. He orders me to stand by his side, and I do.
The floor below us clicks, and I hear steam puff up from the ground. We start going down. I feel my heart race against my chest, but I force myself to remain calm. After a minute, the floor slowly starts to rise, and I enter a dark open room I've never seen before in my life. The room is dome-shaped, and black with no light. I notice the room has a defense system with several explosive rockets ready to be launched towards at any intruder. I feel fear rise up in my chest. I had no idea this was my father the whole time.
"Kid!" Plagg whispers. "What are you doing?!""
"Is that your kwamii, Adrien?" my father asks, not breaking focus.
Plagg flies out of my pocket and flies real close to his face. "Nice to finally meet you, Hawkie. I'm the one and only Plagg, the god of destruction. Let's just get this clear, I could cataclysm your whole lair along with you and everything you love, so don't get cocky on me."
My father's brow furrows. "Funny that I could also step on you with my foot and that would be that."
Plagg snickers. "I'm over 65 million years old, little boy."
I cross my arms. "Okay, okay! Arguing isn't going to get us anywhere! Just transform already!"
My father pulls out his tie and I notice the butterfly miraculous. He shouts the transform words, and for a quick second I notice his kwamii fly out of his jacket before getting sucked into his miraculous. Hawk Moth quickly replaces my father. He's wearing a purple tux with a black butterfly around his chest. The Butterfly Miraculous is on his collar. The last thing I notice is the signature silver mask I've had nightmares about.
"Your turn, Adrien," he commands in a terrifying voice.
Plagg swirls around my face. "Adrien, you can't do this! What about Ladybug? This whole thing smells like rotten cheese!"
I ignore him, knowing if I explain that this is all just a plan to defeat Hawkmoth, I'll blow my cover. Even though I can't see anything, I see how hurt and scared he is. I want to cry, knowing he thinks I turned to the dark side even though I haven't. I'm sorry Plagg.
"Plagg, claws out!"
I quickly transform into my black superhero suit. My golden hair falls over my face, and black cat ears appear on my head. I look at my dad ashamed, knowing he thinks I'm on his side.
"What do you want me to do to prove I'm on your side?" I hesitantly ask.
Hawkmoth smirks. "Go turn that girl, Marinette, into a vampire."
I nod. This is going to be too easy, just like our plan. I'll just bite her neck and tell Hawkmoth I turned her. I pull out my baton, ready to jump out of the room.
"Chat Noir, aren't you forgetting something?" He asks.
I turn around. "N-No?"
He pulls out a butterfly and quickly changes it into an akuma. "You have to be akumatized first. That's how I'll know you're on my side."
