Best Friend in a bag
You're probably thinking. Well this came out of nowhere.
Yeah.
Deal with it.
As I said in the description, because I'm busy- I've got a levels to focus on this year- I will not be writing a story. It will be oneshots and I will write whenever I feel like it.
I got this idea from Robostus.
Ps. These stories are usually set when Marinette and Adrien are 17-18 so like 2-3 years after miraculous is set and under the assumption that they still haven't revealed to each other their identities. Unless I've specifically said otherwise in the beginning of the oneshot. 17-18 cuz they will still be in high-school.
He had noticed it a few times.
When she thought she was alone she would do it.
Sometimes he heard her speak with someone but then she would come out of the room with no one behind.
In the corner of his eyes sometimes he would see it but think his eyes were playing with him.
Plagg said that there was no way his eyes were playing tricks on him. He had once explained the more Adrien used the miraculous, the more some of his powers seeped through the ring and affected his civilian life. They weren't bad per say. Well, apart from his tendency to purr in blissful situations. (That could be a problem one day.)
It was mostly that his senses were better than a normal human- hence, why he was able to hear her from quite a distance and see her from all the way across the room.
At first, he paid no mind to it. Marinette was... unique. And maybe even slightly weird at times. She was clumsy and spoke in a way where she muddled up her sentences. But Adrien had come to understand her way of speaking to him.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was an enigma.
Not that he was judging!
He found her weirdness endearing. He would even go as far to say that most of the time he interacted with her, he found her adorable.
And he admired her a lot. How she was always ready to stand up for her friends, including him. He especially loved the small moments he saw when her confidence shone through for the sake of her passion of helping others.
She was a great class representative and their everyday ladybug.
But the instances were getting more noticeable to him. Every time Marinette thought no one was looking, she'd open her purse and start speaking.
He once found her alone in the locker room muttering nonsense about guarding a jewellery box but he brushed it off at the time. Marinette must have made some cool pieces of jewellery that she wanted to remain a secret for the time being. She was a designer after all.
Looking back, he should have probably questioned it harder.
If his theory was true, then Marinette (who he was currently looking at from afar), may have been talking about something more special than just simple jewellery.
He studied her. She had just come out of the library and seemed a bit out of it. The more he thought about it, the more he realised his theory may be true.
His vision rested at the sight of her ears. More importantly, her earrings. The earrings that no one had ever seen Marinette without- minus a few instances. The point being, Marinette never wore any other earrings, and it had been a known fact that you could gift Marinette any piece of jewellery.
Any apart from earrings of course.
The ones she wore seemed special to her- as special as his ring was to him. Almost too special.
He didn't know how he hadn't seen it before- a high pitched voice in his head that resembled his cheese-loving kwami screamed at him.
'Because you are blind!'
Yeah. He really is.
A small chuckle released under his breath as he saw her glance at him, only to realise he was looking at her and jumped in her spot where she, once again, was talking to her open purse.
She seemed embarrassed, obviously not expecting that someone else would still be at school at this time. (Marinette actually did know Adrien was at school- Fencing class- but didn't expect him to finish earlier than usual. She wouldn't be the one to tell him that though.)
He observed her for a few moments as the spots connected in his mind. He needed to see what was in that purse. He could have sworn he had seen a hint of red sticking out of it. He had to get closer. That was the only way he could really confirm his theory right now.
He also needed to get a better look at those earrings of hers whilst he was at it.
Maybe he could get Plagg to talk- or perhaps bribe him with cheese.
Marinette shyly waved at him and he made his way towards her.
"Hey Marinette. Why are you still here?"
"Uh I was just- uh work catch- I mean catching up on work uh- yeah."
He smiled as he watched her stumble over her words, used to the girl who almost always stammered around him- though, these days it seemed to happen less as Marinette got more comfortable around him. Something, he was glad for.
Her purse, in all of her panic, remained open. Tikki, unbeknownst to him, facepalmed and tried to find a way to get marinette to close the clutch, or escape without Adrien noticing. She could already hear Plagg's taunting laugh as if to say 'for once it wasn't me that fucked things up.'
"You know, if you are falling behind, I can always help you."
"Help.. me?" Tikki nudged her human through the fabric and Marinette's eyes grew wider as Adrien came closer and closer to her. He wanted to see
"Yeah," he brought his face close to hers, their noses almost touching and he quickly tried to look in her purse, only to find that she had closed it.
Oh chat.
He leant back and straightened the creases in his shirt, his eyes back on Marinette's bluebell ones. Then he looked closely at her earrings. It seemed to be a mixture of black and red, depending on the way the light shifted.
Hmmm...
"I've promised my father I would study in the library tomorrow after school and I was wondering if you would join me."
She pointed at herself and mouthed 'me?'.
'Yes you." He pointed back at her.
Marinette just nodded, internally freaking out at the situation she just got herself in.
Adrien smirked and if Marinette's mind wasn't so muddled she would have thought it seemed very Chat-like.
He was going to have a very nice talk with Plagg.
He waved goodbye to her hoping that, if his plan worked, he would have his lady in his arms by the end of the next day.
Later that day.
Adrien had just come home after an akuma by the name of the Alchemist was de-evilised by his maribug.
He was 98% sure it was her. Looking at her earrings up close, it looked the same as it had when he had put them on the few times he had to turn into Misterbug. It was weird how he hadn't realised until now. Him and Marinette had known each other for a few years now, he had seen her countless of times. Had even asked her about the earrings on more occasions then he could remember.
She had said it was a gift from someone special to her. Something to remember him by. She didn't say who. He remembered feeling a tingle of jealousy trying to burst through his chest when she had said that. It had been one of the first times he had realised that maybe, his feelings for Marinette was more than just friends.
Not wanting to betray his feelings for ladybug, he decided to push those feelings back down his throat.
Could she have been referring to Master Fu? He knew Ladybug had a great connection with the precious guardian. She had told him how she had spent a lot of time with him, seeking advice and she had gained a huge respect for him. She had felt guilty when he had lost his memories and had cried that night during patrol, telling him how she couldn't be the guardian like he was. She didn't know how. It had crushed him to see her that way.
He didn't understand why his friend Marinette had seemed as devastated as Ladybug did the night before, but now, he knew.
His lady had been right behind him, always.
He looked at his kwami who was in a cheese induced slumber.
"My camembert. My lady. Come into my arms you gooey del- huh- wah-"
Adrien poked the tiny Cat-Go, "Plagg, psst, Plagg."
The kwami still in a delirious state looked up at his holder in a daze.
"I know that Ladybug is Marinette."
Still bleary eyed the kwami replied, "Yeees. Ladybug is bakery girl. She makes the best cheesy bread. Oh cheese my love- Wait how?"
Plagg's eyes shot up to look at his holder- who was smirking down at him. Adrien may have felt a tiny bit guilty for messing with Plagg like that but now his suspicions were confirmed, he was trying to figure out how to get Marinette to know it was him.
As Adrien begun to discuss his plans of revealing himself aloud, Plagg had only one thing crossing his mind.
'Tikki is gonna kill me.'
The next day
For once, Marinette was early.
To be honest, she had already been planning to stay at the library after school to catch up on her school work for the whole week.
Well unless there was an akuma attack that is.
Marinette decided it was best to wait for Adrien before starting any of the work and, as she had chosen one of the more secluded areas, Tikki was more than happy to chat while they waited.
"Ugh Tikki. How am I going yo do my work without acting like a disaster?"
"I thought you stopped seeing him on the pedestal ages ago, Marinette. You shouldn't be acting like this when you know what he's like. You've been friends for years."
"I know- I know. It's just, even though I know what a dork he is now, I can't help it sometimes. He just does something to me that makes me go all gooey inside. I won't be able to focus on my work at all." She screamed in frustration, muttering apologised when people close-by turned to her to be quiet.
"Why don't you start your homework now and get focused."
Marinette nodded and got her work out, disregarding her earlier intentions, and trying to focus on the task at hand- chemistry.
As she began to fill out the different chemical symbols needed for the equations, her mind kept on going back to the akuma attack the day before. A chemistry teacher (not miss Mendeleive) who had been able to manipulate the chemical structure of objects to do his will. Chat noir had kept on making jokes about their chemistry and Marinette had been flustered to the point of frustration. For some reason her kitty had been keen on messing with her emotions whilst they were trying to deal with the akumatised victim, and for some reason it had somehow worked.
"Ugh!" She threw her pen down on the table and looked at her kwami, "First Adrien, now Chat. Tikki, I can't do it. I can't focus. What is going on with me?"
Tikki just looked at her, exasperated. When would this girl realise the two people she had feelings for (yes- Marinette liked Chat, despite how much she tried to deny it. Tikki knew her girl inside and out.) were the same person. Tikki was about to say something when she looked behind her and her eyed widened in horror, not that Marinette- who was still rambling- noticed.
Adrien Agreste- Chat Noir- was standing there.
Adrien Agreste was looking directly at her, looking delighted- as if... as if he had hoped to have caught her. He waved at her, letting her know that yes, Adrien knew and there was no point of hiding the truth now.
The black cat miraculous holder mouthed to her 'hide' and Tikki, finally out of her momentary shock went back into the purse.
"What- Tikki. What's wrong? Are you feeling okay?"
Before she could say anything else, a hand with a white ring rested on her shoulder, causing Marinette to jump. Once she calmed down, she squinted at the ring, wondering why it seemed more familiar than usual, but it's owner interrupted her line of thought.
"Hey Marinette. Are you talking to your purse again?"
Marinette gasped loudly, causing people's heads to turn to her again and glare. She laughed nervously at them before looking back at Adrien.
"What-uh my purse talking- I uh mean. I don't do that. You must se beeing- i mean- be seeing things Adrien."
"My vision isn't as bad as a cat's you meow. That would just be pawful." He smirked as she couldn't help the groan that came out of her mouth, "But it's okay Marinette. You can tell me."
"It's nothing! Yeah- no it's nothing. Really."
He leaned into her, taking in the scent of vanilla from the bakery and fresh flowers from the perfume he had bought her a few months ago. It had become her favourite and he had promised her he would buy another once the bottle was finished. Her cheeks became flushed red and all he wanted to do right now was caress them and kiss her parted li- no. Focus Adrien!
For now though, he would stick to his plan.
"Really, because I asked Max to make me my very own markov and I'm guessing you did too. You know, when I was younger, I always wanted to have a best friend who I could take anywhere. And Max helped me with it."
Marinette didn't know what to say so she just nodded dumbly, as always, struggling to breathe due to Adrien being so close to her. She felt relieved that Adrien hadn't caught on that she was talking to a kwami, and a red and black spotted one at that. She knew he knew what they were- he had seen Sass after all. However, it felt like he was teasing her. Like he knew something she didn't.
It was... as infuriating as Chat who loved to tease her to no end.
Finally, he leaned back and Marinette could feel herself breathing again.
"Let me show you what he made for me and then you can show me yours. I wonder if they're different?"
"NO!" She shouted, not caring that people turned to glare at her again, "I mean. You can show me if you want, but I really wasn't talking to anything. Just... um- Just myself, yeah."
He opened his bag and took something out of it. He cupped it in his hands so Marinette could only see it's colour- a grayish black.
"Close your eyes and open your hands Mari."
She obeyed him and shut her eyes, bringing her hands forward. She felt a small weight in her hands, but it was lighter than she would have thought, seeing as markov wasn't exactly a tennis ball (he was more like a cricket ball actually).
"It's time you meet the best friend in my bag, Buginette."
At the nickname, her eyes flew open to look at Adrien in surprise. He was grinning, seemingly pleased with her reaction and she looed down to see a small green eyed black cat she was familiar with.
"Plagg?"
"You can come out now Tikki."
Marinette looked at Adrien again. No- not just Adrien- her Kitty cat. Her Chat Noir.
"What- you- him- uh oh god, I think I'm gonna-"
It took her all but two seconds before she promptly fainted into the arms of her Knight in shining black leather.
Bonus: the next morning
After Marinette had woken up in her room on her chaise, Adrien holding her hand and looking at her with something she had only dreamed of- Love- they had spent the majority of their day (Adrien had somehow convinced his father that because Marinette had fainted he wanted to wait for her to wake up and continue working with her so neither of them fall behind) talking about what would happen now.
They had come to the conclusion that they had fallen in love with each other- both sides of them- but because they were too caught up on the Adrien and Ladybug, they didn't give Marinette and Chat Noir a chance.
Of course it was so stupid now that they thought about it.
Tikki had, very amusingly, dragged plagg off, grumbling about him having to deal with the consequences for revealing her holder's identity.
Marinette had chastised Adrien for being mischievous but he had just grinned at her as, with each second, their dynamic had shifted to that of their alter egos.
And if they had sealed their day with a kiss or a few, no one needed to know.
Marinette had woken up with a call from Adrien, meaning she was up early enough to not be late.
After having her breakfast and getting ready in a leisurely fashion, Marinette made her way down the steps of the bakery and down the street, where Adrien had promised he would be waiting for her at the steps of the school.
There he was, Nino and Alya with him, and he waved at her, beckoning her to come quicker.
She picked up her pace and in a few seconds she was already on front of them. She fist bumped Nino and hugged Alya, before grabbing Adrien's arm and linking it with her's, following the other couple inside the school as they chatted about the previous day and how Alya had somehow captured footage of Ladybug and Chat Noir flirting during patrol.
Once they were in class- most others there too, Adrien watched as Marinette layed her stationary out before leaning his arms on her desk.
"Did you sleep well my Princess?" Marinette giggled and flicked his nose lightly, nodding at him.
Alya, Nino, as well as the rest of the class seemed to stop in the midst of whatever they were doing and the room became almost silent.
"I even had a dream about you and me on a picnic date by the Seine dancing to je t'aime mon chevalier by Clara nightingale." (I obviously made it up. Let's just say Clara had a ballad moment)
Most of the class gasped. What had made Marinette so brave that she had just confessed her love for Adrien. And so blatantly at that!
"Well, I don't know about you, but I'd love to make that dream a reality. Luckily for you, I'm free to do what I want today. And I know just how to spend it."
He grabbed her hand and kissed it, ignoring the cheers coming from his classmates. And the over exaggerated gasps coming from Chloe and Lila.
He made a mental note to thank his lady's best friend, who was nestled in the pink purse, glad that her being there had made it easier for him to find out who his love truly was.
Today would be a great day.
Writing a oneshot after being so used to writing stories is a bit hard. I have to write everything I need in shorter ways and I still miss some stuff. Oh well. Hoped you liked the little bonus.
See ya lovelies 😘
