Origins Part 1
(Ladybug)
Marinette's POV
My eyes fluttered open as the sound of my ringing phone filled the room. With a groan, I took my phone to switch it off and went back to sleep.
"Marinette! Marinette, wake up!"
I felt my body being shaken as I opened my eyes. It was my mom. "M-Mom...?" I muttered as she sighed, "It's your first day back at school and you're still sleeping? And to think you were so excited for it too...". H-Huh...?
...
......
...
IT'S THE FIRST DAY BACK!? I jumped out of bed and rushed to put my clothes on and do my hair while my mom simply laughed and left. Once I was done, I was admiring myself in my mirror. This is the first outfit I completed just for this first day back and it fitted me well. My thick and long hair still fell messily down my back but I was able to keep it out of my face by tying it back into half pigtails. Though, there was a small section that wouldn't cooperate at all so I just left it since I was in a rush. Storming down into the bakery below my house, my dad stopped me. "Woah! I know you're late but here! You asked me to make them for your class, remember?" He handed me a box that was filled with different colored macarons as I nervously chuckled, yeah... I did ask him. "Thanks dad! Love you, bye!" I kissed his cheek before rushing off to school. In my free hand, my eyes glossed over my phone screen and saw... 8:30am!?!? "I'M LATE!?!" My legs just started running straight to the school, hoping that I would make it there before the teacher called my name. However, something unexpected happened.
BAM!
I ran into something, making me fall back and drop the box of macarons. "Ugh... good going, Marinette... wait," I looked up to see that I ran into... A GUY!? "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY!?" I jumped up and extended my hand out to him. He had golden blond hair swept to the side with deep green eyes. He was also wearing a pretty formal outfit. " "I-It's okay..." The boy said, taking my hand so I could help him up. Now that I got a full look at him, he's pretty attractive. My eyes glazed over to the box of macarons near my feet, "Ah! The macarons!" Anxiety grew within me, thinking I destroyed the macarons my dad spent so much time on. Thankfully though, they weren't. With a sigh of relief, my body turned back to face the boy who was somewhat confused. "My name is Marinette! What's your name?" With the tilt of my head, I handed out a macaron which he took, ""U-Uh... m-my name is... A-Adrien...". I giggled at how cute his stutter was while giving him a big smile. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Adrien! I- Suddenly, the bell rang as I jumped at the sound. Oh yeah, I'M LATE!? "GAH! Oh god, I'm late! I'm sorry, but I have to go. See ya!" I left with a wave and rushed into the school.
Thankfully, I was able to get into the class before the teacher. With a sigh, I sat down and placed the box of macarons on the table. "Uh, excuse me? Sabrina! Get Dupain-Cheng out of MY seat!" Ugh, that nasally voice... My gaze looked up to see a blond girl with a deadly glare and next to her was a ginger who looked reluctant to follow her order. That's Chloe Bourgeois, the daughter of the mayor of Paris and think she's royalty and next to her was Sabrina Raincomprix, her 'slave'. Sometimes I feel bad for Sabrina, like now, but I'm not in the mood to deal with either of them. "No need, Chloe... I'll move." With a sigh, I picked up the macarons and looked for a free seat. There were two, one next to Nino Lahiffe, someone who was in my class last year, and one next to a girl with tanned skin and brown ombre hair. She looks new, I should make friends with her! However, on my way to the seat, Chloe tripped me up, making me fall and drop the box of macarons. My face collided with the ground while all I saw were crumbled macarons in the opened box. No... dad worked so hard on these...
"Marinette! Are you o-" Nino ran up to me and saw the crumbled macarons on the ground, "Chloe, what the hell!?". "What? She had it coming. Dupain-Cheng shouldn't have been in my seat!" I could see Nino getting angry but I just put my hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, it's fine. No use getting angry over something that's already happened. Mind helping me clean this up before our teacher comes in?" I tried my best to give a smile as he just sighed and helped me clean up the mess on the floor. Someone else came and helped us out, it was the new girl. "You sure you don't want me to yell at her?" She whispered while pointing at Chloe, "No, it's fine. This is actually the norm..." I mumbled the last part so that neither she nor Nino could hear me but the boy couldn't help but give me a sympathetic look. He's been in the same class as me for the past three years, he knows that this is the norm. "Well, I'm Alya! Nice to meet you two... who are you guys?" Alya chuckled, making us chuckle too. "I'm Marinette, and this is Nino!" He waved as we finished cleaning up the mess. The brunette girl looked over at me and gazed at the open seat that was next to her, as if she was asking for me to sit with her. With a nod, we sat down while our teacher walked in.

School was over and I was lounging in my room, sketching out some new designs. "Marinette? Can you come downstairs for a bit?" Mom called from downstairs, "Coming!" I placed my pen down and made my way downstairs. She was on the couch with a small box placed on her lap. "We just received this in the mail. It's the earrings your grandmother had before she..." My eyes moved to the box. My grandmother on my mom's side, Mei Cheng, was one of the few of my relatives on my mom's side I knew personally. She was a kind soul, and treated me like I was a princess. She passed away a few months ago in a hit and run case in Shanghai. It's been hard for us, especially for my mom. A month ago, we got word that my grandmother said in her will that she's giving her earrings to me and they finally came... "Mom... if you want, you can-" "No. Your grandmother had a bond with you that I wish I had with her... nothing will make me happier than seeing you wear them.". She clasped my hand with tears threatening to leave her eyes as I took her into a big hug.
After a while, I let go and took the box upstairs to put the earring on upstairs. Standing in front of my mirror, I looked at the earrings. They were red with five black spots that were outlined in gold. They were beautiful. I took off the studs I had in my ears and replaced them with grandmother's. A bright red light filled the room as I covered my eyes. Once I opened my eyes, I saw a... AH! "It's a red bug... mouse... RED BUG MOUSE!" I threw things at the red bug... mouse... thing but it kept dodging the things. "Woah, calm down Marinette!" I stopped, the red bug mouse thing knows my name...? "H-How do you know my name!?" It smiled at me, "Heh, Mei told me all about you!" Mei? As in... "Grandma?" I spoke out loud as it nodded. "Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Tikki, and those earrings are a Miraculous!" Miraculous? Tikki could see my confusion and suggested I take a seat so it could tell me what's going on. "Let's start with what I am, shall we? My name is Tikki, I'm a kwami who inhabits Mei's earrings, which are the Ladybug Miraculous. The Ladybug Miraculous has the power of good fortune and life. By using those powers, you will be able to become a superheroine like the one your grandma once was!" Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Grandma was a superheroine? I asked Tikki that, "Oh, yes! She was one of the best Ladybug I have had the pleasure of teaching within the Cheng family. And now it's up to you to fulfil that legacy, Marinette!" I had to take a moment to think about what Tikki had said.
I... I have a legacy to fulfil...? I have to succeed grandma...? "Marinette?" The little thing, kwami I should say, asked with a worried expression. Without hesitation, I removed the earrings from my ears, which made Tikki disappear as I placed them back into the box and onto my desk. I can't succeed her, she was amazing while I'm... I'm just a clutz who can't stand up for herself, a total coward. Flashes of Chloe bullying me for many years came rushing back and the guilt of not doing anything returned as well. I wish I could be at least half of what my grandma was... if she was truly a superheroine, she must've been brave, graceful... who am I kidding? She was all those things up until she... I need a minute to myself, collect my thoughts. Knowing my mom would be downstairs, waiting for me to come down with the earrings on, I snuck out through the window and down the ladder to make my way to the park. Once I placed myself on my usual bench, I allowed the wind to blow through my curls while I listened to my music through my earphones. Being outside really calms me, makes me wanna forget all the bad that's happened and start fresh, even if only for a short while.

*CRASH*
I jumped at the sudden noise and searched around to try and find where it came from. My heart sank when my eyes landed on a puff of smoke coming from the bakery. "Mom! Dad!" I called out while running to the scene. When I got there, the front of the bakery had a car in it and glass everywhere. No... I walked closer to see dad on the ground, blood coming from his arm that he was holding. "Dad!" I rushed up to him to see if he was okay, "I'm fine but... your mother... they took your mother...!" They? Who's they? I asked that, "They were robbers... the ones who were on the news for a while. They wore... animal masks, one bear... one bird..." He grunted while I called the operator and asked for an ambulance and the cops. Once they got there, the cops started investigating me while the paramedics took dad to the hospital. With clenched fists, my body moved on its own to the desk in my room. My gaze was fixed on the box that had grandma's earrings... if what Tikki said is right, then maybe it could help me get mom back... right...?

Adrien's POV
"Please, father! I want to go to public school and make friends! I can't stay here all my life!" I roared at the man shown on the tablet his assistant was holding. He was my father, the great fashion designer here in Paris, Gabriel Agreste. He pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh, he was fed up at me. "Fine... go and get ready. Nathalie, fix his schedule to fit in school and have his bodyguard ready to take him to Françoise Dupont and fill out papers. I'll be making a phone call to the principal about Adrien coming with his bodyguard. Good day," He said before the tablet switched off. Nathalie gave me a smile as I ran to my room and got dressed. There wasn't much casual clothes for me to put on, since my father designs my outfits. However, I did pick a set of clothes that felt casual enough. A cream-colored turtleneck underneath a black polo with stripes on it, a pair of grey pants and to top it off, a pair of black pointed loafers. It still looked formal... ah! I rolled up the sleeves of the turtleneck and tucked the polo into the pants
Nathalie called me down, saying that my bodyguard, whom I call the Gorilla, was ready in the car. I was about to leave but I noticed there was a golden pendant next to my late mother's portrait. It was hers. My hand gripped on it and placed it on my neck while my other hand grabbed my phone as I left. Françoise Dupont, it was the school my only friend, Chloe Bourgeois, attended with her friend, Sabrina Raincomprix. Though, there were a few times where she seemed more like Chloe's secretary than her friend. Chloe was the daughter of the mayor of Paris, Andre Bourgeois, and the famous director of a popular fashion magazine here in Paris, Audrey Bourgeois. Her being Audrey's daughter is how we became friends, her mother and my father are close friends in the fashion world. Either way, I get to spend more time with her and make new friends. I'm excited for this.
It didn't take too long to get to the school and I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified of stepping into such a big school during school hours. The Gorilla opened my door and walked into the school while I idly followed him. When we made it to the stairs, a voice called out, "I'M LATE!?!". I tried turning to the direction to figure out who said that but before I could, something collided with me, knocking me down in the process. "Ugh... good going, Marinette... wait, OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY!?" I opened my eyes to see a girl with dark blue waves tied into half pigtails and sky blue eyes, looking at me with concern on her face. "I-It's okay..." I reply, rubbing the back of my head. She extended a hand out to me as I accepted it. The girl helped me up to my feet and gave me a big smile. Suddenly, she perked up. "Ah! The macarons!" Macarons? The girl rushed to a box that was on the ground and opened it, sighing in relief from seeing the contents. "Here! As an 'I'm sorry' gift!" She held a macaron out to me as I accepted it.
"My name is Marinette! What's your name?" Marinette tilted her head in anticipation. She... doesn't know who I am? "U-Uh... m-my name is... A-Adrien..." I stuttered while she made a contented squeak with a big grin, "Well, it's nice to meet you, Adrien! I- GAH! Oh god, I'm late! I'm sorry, but I have to go. See ya!" Marinette said as her... hair antenna? Stood up as she jumped and she ran into the school. Marinette, huh? She's a... unique individual. I glanced down at the macaron in my hand and took a bite. It was good, really good! A grunt from ahead of me made my head jerk up to see the Gorilla looking down at me with an annoyed look. With an awkward chuckle, I walked up the stairs and followed the Gorilla to, what I think is the principal's office. Stares came from the students but I tried my best to ignore them.
~Timeskip~
It didn't take long to get the papers in order. And starting tomorrow, I'll be going to Françoise Dupont! I can finally meet some new friends, I just hope I am able to... wait a second, this is my real first time out of the house that's not for a photo session... I should make use of this fortunate opportunity! As the Gorilla walked to the car, my legs started running and hid at a nearby bus stop. Peering over at the Gorilla, he turns around and notices I'm not there. Panic took over his face and frantically started looking for me before going in the opposite direction I went in. I do feel bad for tricking him, but this is the only chance to enjoy being out here.
My feet took me to a place that looked like a park and towards the fountain. The water coming out was mysterious to me, entrancing me where I stood. "Young man..." I heard from behind me. It was an elderly man with a black cloak over his head. "Y-Yes!" I stood to attention as he smiled at me, "Might I sit and talk with you?" My head nodded yes as he sat next to me. "Thank you, I just wanted to talk to someone. Would you like a sandwich?" The old man held out a freshly made tuna sandwich and, me not wanting to see an old man cry, took it and ate it. "Would you care to listen to my story?" I nodded as he started telling me his long story.
"Once, when the world was still new and animals were more advanced than they are now, there was a ladybug and black cat. They were the best of friends, even though they were opposites. The ladybug represented creation, while the black cat represented destruction. They lived in a wide, open field where they would frolic everyday and have fun. The other residents of the field would think oddly of them due to them being each other's inverse, but they didn't care as they had each other. However, humans came by and burned the field down, making the residents flee their homes. The ladybug and black cat however, didn't leave. They stayed and protected their home. In the end, they were no match for the humans and were killed in the field they called home. However, the residents of the field returned and found out what the ladybug and black cat did all for their home. With this fact, the animals put all their powers together to bring the ladybug and black cat back to life. They returned, but something was off. They were no longer a ladybug or a black cat. They were turned into magical creatures that vowed to protect the field as the field started to flourish once again. Over the course of time, humans returned. However, they did not return on bad terms. They came and lived alongside the residents of the field and bonded with the ladybug and black cat. And due to those bonds, the ladybug and black cat wanted to live among the humans and placed their powers into respective jewellery, allowing the wearers to tap into the ladybug's and black cat's power. The earrings of the ladybug... and the ring of the black cat.".
As he said, 'and the ring of the black cat.', he held out a black ring with a green paw on it. "W-What...?" Was all I could say as he placed it in my hand, shutting it tight. "Consider it a thank you, young man, for listening to a tale from an old man." He stood up as a gust of wind came by, making my eyes shut from the blast. Once they opened, the old man was gone while the ring stayed in the palm of my hand. My gaze then landed on the Gorilla, who was looking at me with another annoyed look on his face as I, begrudgingly, walked back to the car. The ring I held in my hand... was what that old man saying true? Once we got home, I went up to my room and locked the door. If this ring is real and the same ring the old man was talking about, I need to make sure. Slowly but surely, I slipped the ring on my finger. Once it hit the base of my hand, a green light filled my room as I shut my eyes.
The light faded, allowing me to open my eyes and see... a black... thing...? "Hey... where's Baron?" It said, looking around in confusion. Baron? Is he talking about the old man who gave me the ring? "What are you?" I grabbed a pencil and started poking it, "Gah! Stop with the poking, Argh!". The thing flew out of my reach, "Hasn't anyone told you poking is rude!? I'm hungry, do you have cheese?" Cheese? "Hold up, what are you? What's going on?" The thing turned to face me with an angry expression, "What's going on is that I don't know where I am, I don't know where Baron is, and I'm STARVING! WHERE'S THE CHEESE!?" With a sigh, I started texting Nathalie. "What type of cheese?" He perked up, "Camembert!". After a while, I sent the text to Nathalie, "It's on its way. Now tell me, what are you? And what's going on?" I sat down and gestured for it to rest in the palms of my hands, which it reluctantly did. "My name is Plagg, I'm a kwami of the Black Cat Miraculous. The Black Cat Miraculous has the power of misfortune and death." Plagg said in monotone. Kwami? Black Cat Miraculous? Misfortune and death? Am I dreaming?
A knock came from the door, "Adrien! I got your camembert plate." It was Nathalie. "One second!" My gaze turned to Plagg, "Hide for a sec," The kwami listened as I went to the door and opened it. Nathalie handed the plate with a smile before returning to whatever she was doing before. "I've got your cheese, Plagg. Now finish explaining. Oh, and my name's Adrien, by the way." It sighed while basically inhaling a slice of camembert. "Ah, that feels gooooood! Anyway, Addison, right? Baron is my holder and if I can't find him I- what's that on your finger?" Plagg pointed at the ring I put on as I ignored the fact it got my name wrong, "Oh, it's a ring that this old man gave me. When I put it on, you appeared." The kwami then looked down. "So he's gone, isn't he?" It looked up, "And he chose you as his successor, huh?" I literally don't understand anything it's saying. I vocalised my confusion to the kwami, "Nevermind that, now I have to teach you how to use the powers of the Black Cat Miraculous to become a superhero! Or whatever, I really don't care how you use my powers." A superhero? If this is a dream, this is one fun dream!
"Okay, how do we start?" My interest was piqued, "Firstly, you need to know that as long as you hold that, fate will allow another Miraculous to also be in use. The Ladybug Miraculous. That's because it's my inverse. The Ladybug Miraculous has the power of fortune and life while I have the power of misfortune and death. The world needs both active so it can remain in balance. Though don't ask me where the Ladybug Miraculous is, I have no clue where it is. Last I knew, it was somewhere in China. Anyway, enough about that. To transform, you need to say, 'Plagg! Claws out!' And then to-" Before another word would come out of its mouth, "Plagg! Claws out!" I called out as Plagg got sucked into the ring, screaming. Before I knew it, my body was clad in a black catsuit with a belt unevenly wrapped around my waist that fell to my ankles like a tail, a bell strapped on my hip, green wrist guards, knee pads and ankle guards, a black mask over my face, and from what I can feel, two ears on my head. Woah, so this is how it's like to wear a skin tight suit. I could feel something on my back, it was a metal staff. Fiddling with it led me to figure out how it worked. It could extend, go in half and turn into a phone. It was really handy. A smirk grew on my face as I used the metal staff to leave my room through the window.
Jumping from rooftops to rooftops gave me a feeling of no other. The adrenaline flowing through my veins was pumping vigorously, I was having the time of my life! That was until I started feeling queasy and had to stop for a second. Once I did, a big flash of green came from the ring and before I knew it, I was back in my normal clothes. "Are you kidding me?! Dang, I've been on many bad first dates but this is just ridiculous..." Plagg angrily flew in my face. It was about to say more but the sound of sirens caught our attention. It was coming from the bank as people were rushing out and getting into a car. "Now that should be good practice! Go after them!" The black kwami pumped me up as a smirk grew on my face, "Plagg! Claws out!" Plagg returned into my ring as the black catsuit returned and I followed the car. I can do this, I'm gonna be a hero!
It didn't take too long for me to get close and jump onto the car. One of the guys peered out of the car and looked up as I waved, "Hey there!" The guy looked at me weirdly but it was turned into a look of hurt when I hit him with my metal staff. "Yo, what's going on up there?" I heard from inside the car, making my nerves tense up. As soon as that happened, a small flash of green came from my hands while the car started going side to side. "Woah!" "I can't stop the car!?" "We're gonna crash!" "I've gotta bail, I gotta kid!". A few of the guys left the car as I looked straight ahead, the car was going towards a bakery as I jumped up on top of a nearby rooftop. The car crashed into the bakery and the guy who was in the front passenger seat got out of the car, "Hey! What are you-" I heard from inside. I got down and saw the guy standing over another guy and holding an older lady with a gun to her head. "You... black cat... thing... stay back or else she gets a bullet through her skull!" My body just stood there, looking on as the guy took the lady and shoved her into another car before taking off. Police sirens filled the air as I jumped back on top of a nearby rooftop. "Dad!" A familiar voice called out. It... it was the girl from this morning... th-this was her bakery?
My mind was filled with thoughts of inadequacy as I jumped back into my room. "Claws in..." Plagg flew out of my ring while I collapsed on my bed. "Plagg... what did I do wrong...?" "Your passive ability is that your emotions will set off what I call, 'Bad Luck Wave', and that's what made the car go all haywire. If you had listened to me beforehand, this wouldn't have happened!?" The kwami scolded. It's right... if I didn't charge ahead without knowing anything, it wouldn't have ended this way... "If that's the case... I don't have the right to have this..." I was about to remove the ring but Plagg stopped me. "Hey, it's not like something like this hasn't happened before. Baron was this reckless his first time around! As well as Julio, Makoto, not so much Fynn, Gwendolyn and-" I cut him off, "Get to the point.". "Huh? Oh yeah! Anyway! You can't be a hero on the first try. It's how you pick yourself up afterwards, that's what makes you a hero." Plagg finished as I looked down at the ring.
Marinette's POV
With the last earring being put on, Tikki appeared as happy as ever to see me. "Marinette! So you decided to take up the mantle and be Ladybug!" I put my hands out in protest, "N-No! I... I just need to save my mom! Can you help me?" The look on my face was able to make Tikki's face turn serious. The kwami nodded, "All you gotta say is, 'Tikki! Spots on!'".
3rd Person POV
The two teenagers had the same look grow on their faces. Marinette flipped her hair back while Adrien held his hand up,
"Tikki! Spots on!"
"Plagg! Claws out!"
Hey guys! This is the first official chapter of my Miraculous Rewrite and I wanted to make this rewrite more than just shenanigans with Hawk Moth, so I'm making the Origins chapters start without Hawk Moth in it. Sooner or later, he will make an appearance but not now. Anyway, I hope you guys like this! Have a great day!
Edit: I have changed Cat Noir's powers a little. I'm making him similar to Jinx from Teen Titans. Once he gets control of his powers, he'll be able to use them freely like her. He still has his Cataclysm, but this is more of a passive ability for him. In Origins Part 2, I will explain more about the Miraculouses in this rewrite but for now, I'll keep quiet.
