Bonus Chapter 1: The Day of the Departed
(Happy Halloween and Day of the Departed! I thought about how vast video games are and what characters I wanted to use. To be honest, Zhongli and the rest of Liyue weren't originally in the script, but after I played Genshin Impact, that clearly changed. I loved how extensive the universe is and how many characters are there! Hu Tao was definitely one of my favorites. Enjoy!)
(Morro's POV)
Ah, everyone's favorite holiday for all the right reasons. Free candy, pranks, scary stories, honoring your ancestors, and even wearing scary costumes as well! Ah, the perfect holiday! We also get school off, which is a nice bonus as well!
"I can't wait to get all the candy!" my little cousin, Lloyd exclaims in delight as I roll my eyes at him.
Is candy all he thinks about?
"I am excited as well! My first Hallowe'en! I can't wait to celebrate it all with you!" Cora exclaimed in delight with him as he blushed.
Oh, right. He does think about her.
"Ah, but candy isn't all what Hallowe'en night is about" Matt said in an excited tone.
He motioned us to be quiet as we were sitting outside of the school. He gestured to Cole and Lance who were standing behind the doors with sheets over themselves. Jay was talking with Nya about their plans for the holiday just as Cole and Lance jumped out and screamed at them! Jay jumped onto Nya's arm as he screamed while she gave them a cold, hard glare.
"I wouldn't have done that if I were you" she snapped as she opened her water bottle and used the water to douse Cole and Lance!
Lance let out a shriek as Cole groaned, "Come on, Nya. It is just a fun prank"
Nya then pointed to Jay who was still hanging onto her and trembling. Cole, Lance, Matt, and I were laughing at his shaking form.
"Ahem" Nya said in a serious tone.
We were suddenly very quiet as Nya reassured Jay that nothing is going to scare him.
"But why would you do that?" Cora asked surprised, "Jay is our friend"
"It is what you can do on this holiday! You can pull pranks on others!" Plagg explained as Cora shook her head.
"That's still mean" she pointed out.
"They do this every year to me" Jay answered with a sigh, "While I go out and get treats as I dress up as the latest Star Fair character. Then, Cole takes the candy from me..."
Jay sighed as Nya glared at the laughing Cole.
"I wish I could join you, but my family and I celebrate Day of the Departed" Nya said with a sigh as she rubbed her boyfriend's back.
"Day of the Departed?" Matt asked curiously.
"The day where we celebrate our ancestors" Nya answered, "We celebrate this every year to honor our family members. We have a giant feast too! Food is delicious"
"Oh, that's why we never see you trying to get treats" Cole said in a surprised tone.
"Yep! Skylor's coming too since she celebrates the holiday as well" Nya added warmly.
Well, this is going to be fun! I can't wait to celebrate Day of the Departed and Hallowe'en Night! This is going to be good!
"Ah, there you are!" Sensei Wu greeted us.
This is unusual. He would normally wait at the house for us. Why is he here? What is he up too?
"Hi Sensei Wu!" Cora greeted warmly as she stood up and bowed to him.
"What's going on, uncle?" Lloyd asked curiously.
"I just got off the phone with an old friend of mine. We are heading to Choina to celebrate the Day of the Departed there!" he announced as everyone was pretty much in shock about this news.
"WHAT?!" Lloyd and I shouted in disbelief as we faced him.
Soon enough, we were on a plane and flying to Choina. Though, I have no idea why Lloyd is not ok with us going to Choina. I just wanted to pull pranks on our friends.
"Uncle, I told you everything that happened in Choina" Lloyd said calmly, "Are you sure about this?"
"Of course, I am! It was after reading your report and our adventure that I thought it would be perfect for us to spend the holiday there!" he announced happily.
What happened to him when he visited another country?
"Alright..." Lloyd said unsure as Nooroo and Orikko were flying around the plane.
Come to think of it, this plane is really fancy. Who owns this? Who does our uncle know? There is no way our friends know anyone this rich to my knowledge. Just what in the world did we get ourselves into now? The plane did take a while for us to arrive in the country, but it was something different!
"Wow!" Cora and I said in complete disbelief.
This is a beautiful place! The whole country felt warm, and I could smell delicious food all around us! Oh, this is going to be good!
"Wow! Look at their lanterns!" Cora exclaimed as she rushed up to one stall to see one, "It is so pretty!"
"Would you like one?" Sensei Wu asked warmly as Lloyd, Nooroo, Oikko, and I watched them from afar.
I glanced at Lloyd who was looking around, anxiously.
"Is something on your mind? You've been acting weird ever since we heard about coming here?" I asked him as I raised my brow at him.
He jumped, waved his hands in front of himself, and exclaimed, "N-no! I am just surprised to be back so soon! I mean, it doesn't feel like anything has changed too much!"
He's a terrible liar. What is he thinking? Before I could give him a noogie, I felt something odd with the wind. I searched for the source of this wind as Lloyd's face appeared more panicked. I glared at him as I felt the wind pick up.
"What have you done?" I asked in a threatening tone before Sensei Wu laughed, "What's so funny?!"
"You are worried about the wind, but the wind isn't an enemy, is it?" my caretaker asked as I pondered on his words.
I felt the wind again and understood what he meant. This wind isn't harmful, but it isn't something I know. Yeah, I don't trust it. I waved my hand upward to create an upward draft to throw myself and my cousin into the air. Lloyd was screaming as I directed the wind to land us on the roof of a shop.
"Should we stop them?" Cora asked worriedly as our Kwamiis stayed with her.
"I would say yes, but I know this wind. We have nothing to worry about. Also, they won't hurt anyone either. You have nothing to worry about. For now, we should just find some nice lanterns" Sensei Wu reassured her as they went to get some lanterns.
I was searching for wind as Lloyd grabbed my shoulder.
"Trust me, this wind isn't bad" Lloyd said nervously, "He's just protective"
"So, you know another Elemental Master of Wind?!" I exclaimed at him before Lloyd shook his head.
Then, someone else landed on the roof of the building as we both turned to this guy. It was some teen wearing a silk shirt and blue and purple pants. He has a mask hanging around his belt and a green charm. Who the heck is this guy?
"I thought you weren't coming back here, Energy" he said as he pointed a lance at my cousin, "Are you here to celebrate with us?"
"Yes! We are! Wait, was it the president and her husband who invited us?!" Lloyd exclaimed as he let go of me and talked with this teen.
"Yeah. They wanted to invite your uncle. I didn't except you to arrive here as well" he said with a shake of his head, "So, your cousin is the Wind? I wouldn't have thought of that"
I was confused for various reasons, but why is he referring to us based on our elemental powers? Who is he?
"Morro, this is Xiao. He's one of the last adepties in our world. He watches over Choina and lives with the president and her husband. He was given the power to control the wind with the stone he was given" Lloyd answered as he gestured to him.
Interesting. So, he controls the wind with a rock. Seems ironic.
"And the girl with dark energy?" Xiao asked as he pointed his lance at Cora who was walking away with Sensei Wu and our Kwamiis behind her, "She's like you, Energy. Except she has to harness the dark side of it"
Oh, well, he isn't wrong.
"She's not a threat, is she?" he asked as he narrowed his eyes at us.
Oh, no. Did he have to say anything about her? My cousin isn't happy about that. I could see energy forming around his hands. Seriously, he needs to realize that this is trap and not a time nor place to fight someone. I placed a hand on his shoulder as he glanced at me.
"He's just messing with you. Don't take it seriously. Also, he cares about this place, right? I am sure he wouldn't want a fight to break out and harm anyone who lives here" I said with a scoff as Lloyd stared at Xiao who smirked.
"Humans. Always devoted to each other when the other is threatened. That's your only worthy trait" Xiao said as he turned away from us, "Come to the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. We will meet with you there"
Then, in a gust of wind, Xiao departed from us. Huh, I hate to admit it, but I should learn how to use the wind like that.
"We should probably tell uncle, Cora, and the Kwamiis about this" Lloyd said as he looked down from the roof and jumped a bit.
"Are you seriously afraid of heights?" I asked as I rolled my eyes at him.
"No! I am just surprised with how high we are up!" Lloyd snapped at me before jumping from the roof and used his energy to gently land himself on the ground.
I followed him as we ran to them.
"Ah, I sense a familiar wind blowing. Did you two met with the adepti?" Sensei Wu asked with a grin.
"Yeah. He's fine" Lloyd answered in some relief, "He did greet us in a strange manner"
"Well, I can't blame him. He isn't close with humans after everything they've done to his kind" Sensei Wu replied in a thoughtful manner, "What did he want from us?"
"He told us to go to the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor" I answered with my arms crossed over my chest, "Are you dying?"
Sensei Wu glared at him as Lloyd smacked my side. It is a legitimate question.
"Haha! I'm not dying yet, my child" Sensei Wu laughed as he walked on ahead of us.
He somehow knew where the funeral parlor was and didn't seemed phased to be here. Are we sure he isn't dying?
As for the funeral parlor itself, well, it is pretty lively for one. Ok, this is my first time here, but I always believed funeral parlors to be depressing. I mean, you're only here when someone dies. Usually someone close to you as well. The lanterns were lit up and hanging from the ceiling. There is a large brown reception desk with some kind of bookshelf behind it. There are many entrances and exits to this shop as well.
"Wow! It is pretty!" Cora awed as both Kwamiis were hiding in her hair.
"Thank you! We at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor always strive to make our place beautiful and welcoming!" a cheeky, pleasant voice answered as she stepped into the room.
She is much smaller than I thought she would be. She giggled at us and winked. She's hiding something.
"And you are?" I asked annoyed.
"I am the owner and president of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor! My name is Hu Tao! Is your grandfather dying? Oh! I can't wait to plan his funeral!" she said in an excited manner.
I like this girl! She has a small black hat on with a tree branch on it as well as a symbol of the funeral parlor on it. She has a black dress on with two tails coats flowing behind her. She has a red ring on her hand as well as red silk shirt on. She is wearing a pair of black shoes and white socks.
"Why does everyone assume I am going to die? I don't like these implications" Sensei Wu said with a sigh as I burst into a fit of laughter!
This place is great! I hope we never leave or visit it more often!
"Please forgive her, my old friend. She means well. After all, when someone dies, we do make a lot of money" someone with a deep voice said as he stepped into the room.
Who is this fancy person?
"Hi co-president Zhongli!" Lloyd greeted warmly.
"Greetings to you too, Lloyd. It is a pleasant day to meet your family. I am the copresident and part time worker at the funeral parlor. I am the one who invited you here to celebrate the Day of the Departed" he explained in a friendly manner.
As for me, I glared at my cousin. He knew a copresident of an entire country and didn't say anything?! Why?!
"Ah, it is nice to see you as well, old friend. I trust everything is going well" Sensei Wu said in a warm manner.
"Very. Though, please let me be aware of your students visiting my country. They are rather destructive. They didn't destroy anything, but I was sure the Master of Fire was going to if he didn't save your nephew" the co-president said warmly.
I glanced at Lloyd who shrugged.
"You know, Kai. His temper nearly burnt down the courtyard of the Jade Palace when he faced that man..." Lloyd said as his voice trailed off, "What happened to Childe?"
"Ah, Childe" the co-president said with a shake of his head, "We discovered that his real name is Ajex. He was working for a radical group in Europa called the Fatui. We sent him back to his homeland, Sharo. He is not allowed to return to our country"
Dang, never miss with the co-president and president of a country. That's something. Lloyd seemed to nod in agreement.
"Enough of this boring talk, Zhongli!" Hu Tao exclaimed as she held a firework, "We are going to celebrate Day of the Departed!"
This is a holiday about celebrating our departed loved ones. It is happy, but it can also be very depressing depending on who died.
"I suppose you are right, Hu Tao" the co-president said with a smile, "Hu Tao and Xiao will be here to help. I have to return to the Jade Palace to bring my wife. Please don't burn my country and have some fun"
He let as the earth seemed to create a smooth path for him. Then, we turned our attention to a laughing Hu Tao.
"So, what do you want to know about our festival? Food? Traditions? Or, tricks?" she asked with a giggle.
That sounds dangerous, and I want in!
"Uncle, should we hang out with her?" Lloyd asked nervously.
"Oh, I think it should be fine" he said with a grin, "Have a little fun before returning back home. Just don't do anything illegal"
"Where are you going?" Cora asked curiously.
"I thought it would be fun to take a look around and see how much this place has changed. It has been a while since I have been here. I hope my favorite tea shop is still open" he said in a cryptic manner before leaving us with Xiao and Hu Tao.
"So, what do we do for this holiday?" Cora asked curiously.
"We make a lantern or buy one" Xiao explained with his arms crossed over his chest, "You then make it in honor of your ancestor or your loved ones. You send it to the night sky with a wish and letter to them. Hoping it will reach them"
I understand that he is the last adepti, so he must've made a few lanterns for his kind.
"Afterwards, we have a giant feast! The food here is so delicious! Much better than whatever you normally have" Hu Tao said with a grin, "So, what would you like to do first? Prepare the food or make a lantern?"
I can tell Lloyd wants to make a lantern for his dad. I guess I can help out with the food.
"I'll help in the kitchen" I offered as Orikko flew back to my shoulder, "We should have a nice feast after travelling all the way here.
"Wonderful! We have a wonderful chief preparing a great meal for us! She's in the backroom" Hu Tao said as she gestured to it.
I entered the kitchen and smelled delicious food being prepared. She has her deep blue hair tied up into two rings with a charm in her hair. She is wearing a short, brown and yellow dress and brown gloves and shoes. She has a golden belt wrapped around her waist and holding a bear charm and a red stone. Her golden eyes shined with delight and determination.
"Almost there. I just need a taste tester" she said before her eyes met with mine, "Ah! Perfect! Try my soup!"
She then shoved a spoon filled with soup into my mouth! It was hot, but it also very delicious!
"That's wonderful!" I replied.
Much better than Skylor's restaurant.
"Oh, thank you! I wasn't sure which spice I should use, but I am grateful I went with my gut feeling! I'm Chief Xiangling! Who are you?" she introduced with a smile.
"I'm Morro. I'm visiting for Day of the Departed" I answered as Orikko poked his head out to see the delicious food being prepared, "Hu Tao also told me to help you out in the kitchen for the holiday too"
"Wonderful! I need a taste tester too!" Xiangling said in delight as she pulled me into the kitchen and forced me to taste her food.
Which is just fine by me. I wonder what Cora, Lloyd, and Nooroo are up too.
(Cora's POV)
"So, the two of you want to make lanterns for the festival?" Hu Tao asked curiously.
"Yes please!" Lloyd said a little too loudly, "Sorry, but it would give me some comfort to send a lantern into the sky"
Poor Lloyd. Nooroo even looked at him with worry and sadness.
"Ah, this is a personal matter too. Well, I believe we should make the lantern ourselves. Come with me! We can make one here! I've already closed up shop for the day anyway!" she said with a grin as we followed her.
We went into the backroom and found a few tables where some lanterns were sitting at. The lanterns were finished too. There was one that was brown and held a few flowers, a golden one with a jade jewelry on it, a purple one with a ribbon on it, a blue one with a charm on it, and a green one with a piece of food in it.
"Your friends made these?" I asked in awe.
"Pretty much! We love this holiday so very much!" Hu Tao exclaimed as she giggled, "You should make your lanterns. I have some last-minute business to attend to! Toodoloo!"
She skipped out of the room, but she's pretty jovial for a girl who works as the manager of a funeral parlor. Well, I want to make the best lantern I can and send it to someone who needs it! I also noticed Lloyd looking determined too.
"Time to make the best lantern for dad!" he said in a determined tone before rushing to the supplies closet to get some material with Nooroo's help.
I waited until Lloyd finished gathering all the supplies he needed. I then gathered the items I wanted to use to make my lantern. I set it all down on the table as I looked at Lloyd. He was cutting paper, pasting ribbons, and drawing designs on his lantern.
"Pace yourself Lloyd" Nooroo advised him as he shook his head.
"But I have to get the lantern done before it ends!" Lloyd said determinedly, "This is for dad!"
Nooroo sighed as he then picked up a glue stick and began to help him. Hm... Maybe I should make mine in honor of his father. He did look after me when I was held captive. I think I will! I began to work on the lantern as hard as I could! This is for you, Sensei Garmadon!
(Hu Tao's POV)
Hm, these foreigners as going to be fun to tease!
"Hu Tao, what are you thinking about?" Xiao asked as he stood behind me with a serious look on his face.
Oh, what a buzzkill.
"Aw, I am sure you want to pull some pranks on them too" I said in a coaxing manner, "Or, are you really going to listen to Zhongli like a teacher's pet?"
He turned away from me with his arms crossed over his chest. Just like I thought, a teacher's pet.
"Come on! We don't get foreigners around here often! It is also Hallowe'en night where they are from! I read in a book that some people often pull tricks on each other for treats! We should do that!" I suggested to him with a wink.
"You can do what you want as long as it doesn't cause too much trouble for us, and no one gets hurt" Xiao advised seriously, "We don't want anyone to get hurt nor attacked on an important night"
"Thank you!" I said with a grin before skipping along and going with my plan.
This is going to be a wonderful holiday! I can feel it! Now, time to get to work!
(Morro's POV)
"So, you work at the funeral parlor, or do you have your own restaurant?" I asked Chief Xiangling.
"Sort of. We all kind of run a business together" she answered as she finished making her dish, "Since we are all friends here, we decided to work together!"
That sounds very nice. I hope my friends and I will have something like that. I wonder who will take over the tea house after Sensei Wu passes. I could do it, but Lloyd is family blood. I hope I can do something.
"Heheh! Welcome everyone!" Hu Tao's voice echoed around us.
"What's going on?" Orikko asked as I looked around.
"Oh, no..." Chief Xiangling said in dismay while shaking her head, "Are you new here?"
"Uh, yeah. I thought that was obvious" I asked unsure of what was about to happen.
"Well, Hu Tao loves to pull pranks on others. She's pulling a trick on all of us right now" Chief Xiangling explained with a sigh, "And since it is the Day of the Departed, she's going to pull a big prank on all of you!"
This is going to be fun! I stood up and looked around. I cannot wait for her prank. Chief Xiangling was surprised, but she doesn't know me! I love a good prank! This is my kind of friend! The lights were dimmed as the stoves burst into flames!
"At least she isn't harming the food..." Chief Xiangling said in relief as I starred at the flames in awe.
"Morro, I know you love pranks, but please don't let me become a chicken nugget" Orikko whispered to me.
(Lloyd's POV)
Cora, Nooroo, and I were close to finishing up our lanterns when the doors were slammed shut!
"What's going on?" Cora asked nervously as I went to the door.
Nooroo stayed with Cora as I rushed to the doors. I didn't want to use my powers, so I tried to push and pull the door. Nothing was working!
"Ok, that's not good" I said as I took a step back.
I calmed myself down as energy appeared around my hands. I prepared to punch the doors when the door caught fire!
"LLOYD!" Cora and Nooroo shouted as I jumped back.
I wasn't burnt, but that was dangerous! What is going on?
"Ah, so that's why Xiao called you "Energy". I was curious about that nickname" Hu Tao said in delight over the comms of the funeral parlor, "This will make my prank much more exciting! I've never pranked an Elemental Master before! I thought you were dead! This is going to be so much fun!"
I have a feeling she isn't going to pull an easy prank on us. Especially if she set the door on fire. I stood in front of Cora and Nooroo as we remained on guard. Then, the doors burst into flames around us as Cora let out a gasp. She cloaked herself in her elemental power before charging towards everyone's lanterns! I cloaked myself as I helped her get the lanterns away from the roaring fire.
"Ok, we have to get out of here, anyone have any idea on how to do that?" I asked as I held the lanterns close to me.
Nooroo phased through the wall as we waited for a bit. Then, Nooroo reappeared through the wall.
"There is a hallway through here. Break the wall!" Nooroo exclaimed as I let energy gathered around my fist.
I drew it back and then punched the wall to break it.
"Hey! I'm billing you for that!" Hu Tao's voice echoed as we took the lanterns and fled from the room.
We caught our breath for a moment, and then departed from the burning room. What kind of prank is this?! Who sets their own room on fire?!
"Everyone ok?" Cora asked worriedly.
"I think so" Nooroo said with relief until I turned to look at the room and saw the fire roaring!
"We've got to go!" I shouted as we ran down the hallway until we reached a balcony.
Cora panicked as I shouted, "Jump after me!"
I jumped off the balcony as she followed me. Nooroo was flying right after me as I created an energy dragon. I caught Cora and the lanterns. We looked back at the funeral parlor, but it wasn't on fire anymore...
"WHAT?!" we shouted in disbelief until we heard someone laughing.
We looked at the balcony to see Hu Tao holding the bars of the balcony and laughing so loud!
"That was the best prank I've ever pulled! I cannot believe you two fell for that!" she laughed and collapsed on the ground.
I directed the dragon back to the funeral parlor and placed the lanterns on a table as she was still laughing at us! I cannot believe this... Who pulls a prank like that?! I thought we were going to die in a funeral parlor on the Day of the Departed!
"Wait a minute!" Cora shouted after she checked on the lanterns, "Where is Morro and Orikko?!"
Oh, no...
(Morro's POV)
This is the best prank ever! There is fire all around us! Though, I think it would've been better if I was with Lloyd and not Chief Xiangling. She's a great cook, but she's not freaking out as much as I like. Though, Orikko is freaking out.
"How are we going to get out of here?! I don't wait to perish here!" he exclaimed as I smirked.
"Did you forget what I am the master of?" I asked with a smirk forming on my face, "I am Morro! The Master of the Wind! I command all the wind!"
I could feel a breeze flowing around me as I grinned. I snapped my fingers as the wind spun around me and easily put out the flames.
"Wait, how did you do that?" Chief Xiangling asked surprised, "You aren't even using a stone!"
"Why would I need a stone?" I asked surprised for a moment, "Also, if that is all she got for a prank, that's disappointing! This is nothing like the haunted house trick I pulled on Jay last year!"
Hu Tao smirked and said, "I have to confess, that is pretty impressive. Elemental Masters are really something else. Something different from us. Also, if you really think this is all I've got, you haven't seen nothing yet! Though, please let Xiangling go. She has been a part of my pranks for too long"
Chief Xiangling sighed in relief and departed from the kitchen.
"Now, you really want a prank? Very well! I'll give you the best one!" Hu Tao shouted in delight as the fire from the stove suddenly turned one again.
"Really? Again? I think I can handle a little fire. I already handle Kai" I joked before waving my hand to put it out again.
Though, the fire was still raging around us! What is this? This fire is different!
"An illusion?!" Orikko exclaimed in shock as I glanced to him.
"What do you mean? I've never seen Kai do this" I asked surprised.
"Because Kai's never done this before. Make illusions with fire" Orikko answered, "Anyone would control fire could conjure up illusions and create any scene before them. As long as there is a flame burning around them"
She's using fire to create more fire? I don't see anything else. Everything is real except for the fire coming from the stove.
"Morro!" Lloyd's annoying voice rang from behind us.
We turned to see him coming towards us, but something felt off about him. Where's Nooroo? What happened to Cora? Where is the lantern he would be working so hard on for his dad? That's not my annoying cousin at all!
"Get away from us!" I shouted as I waved my hand to create a powerful gust of wind to slice the illusion in half!
"Good one, but I have a feeling that won't be end of her tricks!" Orikko said.
He's right, but I hope her tricks won't harm this building. Well, it shouldn't since she owns it. Hm, so she's using the fire to create these illusions and trick me. An interesting trick! Something that Kai would never think of!
"Well, as much as I love a good prank, I also love to celebrate with those I love and care about even if I don't often admit it to them. So, let's bring our lovely pranks to an end" I said with a grin.
"Oh? And how are you doing to stop me?" she asked with a giggle.
"With my power!" I shouted as my eyes shined an emerald light as I raised my hands to create a powerful gust of wind around us.
"How?! This wind is something else! Something I can't counter! This is the true power of an Elemental Master?!" Hu Tao exclaimed as I moved the wind to put out the fire.
She let out a scream as she held her hat while my wind put out her fire. Thus, revealing us back at the scene of the kitchen without Chief Xiangling. I smirked as Hu Tao sighed.
"Alright, you win. Not bad. You were able to beat my prank" she confessed with a giggle, "You did a good job. I hope to prank you again"
She held out her hand as I shook it and bowed.
"Pleasure Miss Hu Tao. I hope to be another victim in your pranks" I said with a grin as Orikko looked horrified at us.
I simply shrugged and then exited the room with Orikko and Hu Tao. Though, she and I talked for a little longer until we heard a few other people enter the funeral parlor. We saw Lloyd, Cora, and Nooroo looking panicked.
"What happened now?" I asked them unamused.
"WE LOST THE LANTERNS!" they shouted in a worried manner.
Oh, this kind of problem. Well, I glanced at Hu Tao who simply held a mischievous smirk.
"The night is still young. The last part of my prank is happening now! Find the lanterns and that is it!" she exclaimed in delight before skipping towards the exit of her funeral parlor and stopped for a moment, "But I will say this, I hide the lanterns near the palace. Near the copresident's pet"
"THE JADE PALACE! FOLLOW ME!" Lloyd exclaimed as he took my hand and Cora's to run to the palace!
Well, this is an interesting Day of the Departed to say the least.
(Sensei Wu's POV)
I went with my old friend and meet with his wife who smiled at us.
"Welcome back to Choina, dear Wu. We are pleased to make your acquaintance" Ningguang said warmly as she put out her pipe and gave me a hug, "We missed you and your family. Though your students did cause us some trouble"
"I'm sorry, but I had a feeling that would be the best if they went here to retrieve the Miraculous here. I didn't expect them to cause so much trouble" I confessed to her as I took a teacup to have some for myself.
Ah, it is very nice to have a moment of peace without something word threatening looming over the horizon.
"ROAR!" a loud echoing roar resounded around us.
I fear I spoke too soon.
"That roar... It couldn't be... Zhongli!" Ningguang exclaimed with worry as she rushed out of the room while I followed her.
We found Zhongli, Xiao, Keqing, and Ganyu overlooking the balcony and seeing the event unfold before them. I sighed as I saw my nephew, son, pupil, Nooroo, and Orikko facing a giant earth dragon.
"Oh, no. Did they wake Azhdaha up?" Ningguang asked worriedly.
"No. They were led here by my other boss" Zhongli said with a sigh as he gestured to the lanterns in front of Azhdaha, "It appears they were trying to get the lanterns back, and it didn't end well"
"Should we stop them?" Ganyu asked nervously.
"I do apologize. I didn't expect them to do this" I said with a shake of my head.
"I want to see how this ends" Xiao said as he stared at the scene before us.
"Let's just wait for a moment" Zhongli said calmly, "Azhdaha doesn't attack anyone who isn't a threat. They should be fine. I'll interfere and stop this from escalating"
I hope he does, but I also don't know how well this will end. My nephew will think things through, and Cora does have common sense. The Kwamiis can't get hurt. It is just my son that I am worried about.
(3rd's POV)
To say that the group was in trouble is an understatement. Lloyd arrived at the Jade Palace with his cousin and friend behind him with the two Kwamiis behind them. They stopped when they arrived at the courtyard, but they didn't expect to find a giant, rocky dragon before them.
"So, you fought a dragon?" Morro asked in a deadpanned expression as they faced the sleeping dragon.
"No! We didn't fight a dragon!" Lloyd snapped at his cousin as Cora covered their mouths with her hands.
She then used her head to gesture to the sleeping dragon. They were both quiet as the two Kwamiis flew towards the dragons and the lanterns. They returned to the trio and reassured them that the lanterns were there.
"So, now we have to get the lanterns without waking the dragon" Cora said as she pondered on this before turning to Morro, "You should be able to get the lanterns without waking the dragon"
"Your elemental power would be the best to use. It should be the quietest one to get the lanterns back without any trouble" Lloyd agreed with a smirk.
Morro pouted at them before rushing towards the dragon by using the wind. He glided across the ground and took three lanterns from the dragon and dropped it by Lloyd and Cora. They only had two more to go, and this happened to be Lloyd's and Cora's.
"You've got this" Lloyd reassured Morro.
Morro nodded his head as he prepared himself to grab the last two lanterns. He quickly covered himself in the wind and glided towards it. He carefully grabs the two lanterns carefully before slowly angling himself to then use the wind to get back to his friends and cousin. However, Hu Tao decided to not let them get away with this too soon. She created a ball of fire and threw it behind the dragon. The fireball burst on the ground and awoke the dragon who roared loudly! Morro let out a yell as he held the lanterns close to himself.
"Morro! Get out of the way!" Orikko exclaimed as Cora got an idea.
"Lloyd you're the strongest one here! Protect him!" Cora shouted as the dragon let out a roar and glared at Morro.
"I'm ready!" Lloyd shouted as Cora gathered dark energy and used it to push Lloyd towards his cousin.
The dragon raised his claw to strike Morro just as Lloyd arrived and created a powerful shield of energy around himself and his cousin.
"Are you ok?" Lloyd asked worriedly as he struggled to hold the shield up.
"I think so, but do you have any idea on how to get us out of here?!" Morro shouted as Lloyd shrugged.
Cora created a dark sphere in her hands before throwing it at the dragon. The dragon was knocked back as Morro grabs Lloyd by his waist and creates another gust of wind to push himself and his cousin away from the dragon.
"Quick thinking" Lloyd said in relief as they landed in front of Cora.
"Are you two ok?" she asked worriedly.
However, the dragon let out another roar as they looked at him.
"Anyone else got an idea?!" Orikko shouted in a panic as the dragon charged towards them.
Lloyd and Cora stood in front of Morro and the two Kwamiis as they prepared to fight the dragon back. Dark and light energy gathered around their joined hands. The dragon continued to charge towards them as they powered up their attacks. However, a pillar of earth rose between them! The copresident then landed on the pillar and looked at them. The dragon ceased his attacks and happily looked up at him. He smiled at the dragon before snapping his finger and raising the land underneath Hu Tao! She let out a scream as she hugged the ground and then glanced up at everyone.
"Hi everyone!" she greeted and stood up, "I hope you all enjoyed my pranks for this Hallowe'en Night and Day of the Departed! I can't wait to pull my next prank next year!"
Everyone sighed at her except for Xiao. She burst into a fit of laughter as everyone meet up at the dining room to share one, giant meal together. Chief Xiangling was grateful to provide them the giant meal. Afterwards, they were standing on a balcony as people were gathering outside and holding lanterns of their own. The night sky was out as the copresident and president were holding one lantern.
"We have gathered here today to celebrate our ancestors and those who have departed from our realm" the president spoke softly, "It is wonderful to be together after perilous years and trying times. Now, we stand together as we give our hopes, prayers, and wishes to those who have moved on and are watching over us. Happy Day of the Departed, my people!"
The two of them released the lantern together as everyone else's lantern into the sky. Soon enough, the lanterns carrying everyone's wishes to the night sky. The sky was illuminated not only with the stars, but with the lanterns of everyone's prayers.
"For even though we continue to live on, we always carry the memories of our loved ones with us" Sensei Wu spoke as he watched his nephew, son, pupil, and the two Kwamiis gazing up at the beautiful lantern filled sky, "With the hopes of a new future and bright dawn on the horizons. We will never forget those who are important in our lives, but we will move forward to achieve the brightest possible outcome in our lives together. Happy Day of the Departed, everyone"
