✗ the occurence of last friday ✗
It was a simple Friday afternoon in Paris, the smell of baked bread haunting the streets like a clingy but beautiful girlfriend, the Eiffel Tower surrounded by peaceful buskers and the quiet roar of cars travelling up and down the roads. Adrien found it oddly soothing as he watched the world from the car window; it was Friday the thirteenth after all, and Nino had been bothering him all day about it, being the superstitious boy he was.
He kept talking about the 'curse of the black cat' and how they are the masters of trickery. Apparently, a black cat is an unlucky sign and on the day of misfortune, it may fool a 'pure being' into playing its games. He found himself sighing at the stupidity of the idea.
Adrien had spent a few hours in his room after they arrived home, and could see the soft rain tapping at his window. It had a musky but attractive scent and within seconds the boy had instinctively transformed and leapt from his window; after all, rain was his favourite weather. He chuckled to himself at the irony of a cat liking rain before his thoughts trailed back to Ladybug's soft pale skin.
The cat-eared boy lurked in the back alleys of Paris, his eyes darting about for something of interest. Due to the dismal weather, he had a feeling that Ladybug would appear, fearing somebody would be akkumatized because of the sad feeling in the air. At the thought of seeing his lady, the cat felt anything but sad.
He quietly sneaked through the shortcuts and passages, occasionally catching a snippet of muffled conversation or hearing an umbrella being popped up. Just as he heard a set of footprints approaching rapidly, his heart paused and quivered slightly, like how a bows string writhes back and forth after being pulled.
Everything seemed to freeze as he saw a petit girl run past him, dashing away through the cold with quiet but heavy breaths. He saw a long red scarf trailing out behind them, tangled with long soft blue locks of hair. She had an umbrella tightly held in her hand, soft hands curled around it as she dashes through the streets. Marinette.
Adrien smirked to himself and instantly slid out into the street, scampering after her like a fox chasing a chicken. He was intrigued, marinette, a girl who always had her hair neatly tied, appearance perfected and had great manners, running roguely through the wet streets? It seemed odd and unlikely.
The fact that she still had the umbrella he had given her, made the cats heart thump happily as he darted through the streets. They weaved round multiple corners and chat found himself thanking the extensive amount of running he had to do during his 'occupation' for the fact he hadn't collapsed yet. All of a sudden, Mari hit a dead end and the cat looked around for a hiding spot frantically, before she turned around.
He saw a bin he could hide in and as he ran towards it, before tripping over and landing in a puddle. The boy sat there confused, muddy water dripping down his face as he tried to prop himself up. Above him he heard footsteps and looked up to see a smiling, pale face looking down at him, a hand outstretched.
Her mouth was covered partially by the red scarf and her blue locks fell down around her head like a waterfall. Snapping out of his trance, Chat found himself grabbing onto her hand and standing up, leaving the residue of dirtied water on her palm. They froze, eyes locked along with their hands, before suddenly an obvious blush covered both faces.
Their hands jumped apart as Chat nervously scratched the back of his neck and Mari gasped, blushing. They stood in silence for ten seconds, listening to the comforting raindrops splashing down around them before Marinette held the umbrella up over his head. They both found their minds clawing through its memories in search of the relevance they felt in this moment.
"So Chat, why were you following me?", the girl inquired, eyebrows tilted and mouth smirking which struck a chord in the back of Chats mind
"I.. I saw you walking and I was looking for m'lady and I just.. The real question is why were you running?", the cat stuttered towards the girl.
"I had some b-business to attend to.. okay?"
"You're lying princess. Tell me.", he smirked, remembering that he didn't have the reputation of Adrien Agreste to uphold in this moment, and could do whatever he pleased with Marinette.
She shook her head and crossed her arms as she passed him the umbrella. The cat closed it and pushed her back against the wall, standing over her, eyes locked with hers. He saw a blush cross the girls nose and she nestled down further into her scarf.
"C-chat..", she muttered her eyes clouded over with a mixture of fear and questionable desire.
"Will you tell me now? Or will I have to make you..", he questioned himself in a way, because inside he had this sudden urge to kiss her. As he spoke the words he slowly tilted her head up with his hand and looked down into her eyes. They reflected the sight of a black cat standing over her, a seductive smirk on his face and a small blush tinting his cheeks. He wrestled with himself mentally, trying not to kiss her as she looked up at him with bambi eyes.
As he was internally debating, he found a sudden warmth pressed onto his lips and a small soft hand getting slipped behind his neck. His eyes widened shocked, as he saw the girls large eyes closing, lips pressed onto him. He closed his eyes, lost in the kiss, feeling his own hand slipping round her waist.
She had kissed him. Not him kissed her. He was loved for himself, not some fake model version of him. He felt a soft tear slip down his cheek as he felt the bluenettes lips leave his. It felt like happy memories with his mother, picking strawberries, listening to her play the piano sweetly on a summer morning; it felt like it was meant to be. He looked down at her, his brain tangled and lost, as she smiled up at him.
"I said I wasn't going to tell you. But you're happy enough now aren't you?", she smiled up at him wittily, although she seemed fairly shocked and embarrassed at her own actions. He found his head bobbing up and down once and felt his face go hot as she tucked her scarf back up and closed his hand around the umbrella, leaving.
"Oh by the way, look after that, it's one of my most precious possessions", she muttered as she trotted away into the cold evening, leaving the confused boy standing there love struck. "Oh Tikki, I had to go and fall in love with a black cat of all things, didn't I?!", the girl squeaked as she ran away, her brain and stomach flipping with confusion. In reality, her rouge bug friend had contacted the flu in someway and she had been running to get her fixed.
As he watched his beautiful princess dash away into the frosty air, the puff of her breaths floating above her distinctly, there was only one phrase that he could think of, playing around and around in his head like a broken record,
'On the day of misfortune a Black Cat will fool a Pure Being into playing its games'
And the cat had most certainly played the girl in this story.
