The Aftermath
I just really wanted to write a fun little one-shot about everyone's reactions to the reveal. The thought of Adrien and Marinette's dynamic changing so much within less than twenty four hours and confusing the heck out of everyone is HILARIOUS to me. Vote and comment if you've enjoyed! -Colorado

When Alya woke up she had expected it to be a normal day. She would head to school, help Marinette out with whatever her newest ideas were, hang out with Nino afterwards, and then go home to babysit her sisters until her parents came home and cooked a delicious meal.
Her plans were turned on her head the moment she stepped foot onto the courtyard.
Evidence of something happening was clear as day. Students were talking in hushed whispers, glancing towards the courtyard. Chloe was fuming, with Sabrina following behind trying to console her. Alya spotted Rose explaining something to Alix wildly, and Alix's eyes widened before she rushed into the courtyard.
Was it an akuma? No, there wasn't enough mayhem for Hawkmoth to be up to something. What about the appearance of a celebrity? That would explain the whispers and whatever happened between Rose and Alix, but wouldn't Chloe be in there kissing up to the celebrity? Maybe Lila was spouting nonsense yet again. Chloe obviously didn't approve of the Italian girl, so maybe she stormed off after failing to refute her. That would also explain the other occurrences.
Which meant that Alya had to survey the scene before Marinette got there, or else a showdown was inevitable. While she would love to see Lila get knocked down off her throne, Marinette's attempts had only made the situation worse. If they were going to do something about her, then they had to be crafty. It would probably require the help of Nino and Adrien too, and Alya knew they would happily help them.
Now all she had to do was plaster a fake smile onto her face and listen to Lila rave about whatever it was while looking for any weaknesses. Well, that shouldn't be too hard, after all, a journalist would have to learn to smile even if the person they were interviewing wasn't their favorite.
Forcing a smile over her face, Alya prepared herself for the scene of Lila up on a table enthralling everyone with her tales. She turned on her heel and walked into the courtyard only for the smile to slip off of her face.
Alya's jaw dropped as she took in the scene that had caused such pandemonium. There was no way her eyes were working. She had to be dreaming or hallucinating or something! The chance of this happening was microscopic! And surely she would've heard about this!
Had she woken up in an alternate universe or something?
Because there was no chance that in the world she knew, Adrien and Marinette were cuddling on a school bench, completely unbothered by the students doing double takes and whispering all around them.
Even those who weren't in their grade level had seen the way they had interacted and knew that this was far from normal. In fact, just yesterday Marinette had still been stumbling over her words trying to talk to Adrien about something or other and he had been nodding and smiling, trying to understand what she was saying.
How had they gone from awkwardly conversing to Adrien having his head on her lap and playing with her hair as she used his stomach as a table to sketch designs?
What in the world had she missed?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"And come on! It's obvious that the outfit had fanservice written all over it and he wanted me, me, to model it! I mean, I get that in modeling that's going to happen, but it's never been this obvious before. And the poses! If only Giuseppe were there." Adrien sighed as he continued his rant. Marinette paused from her design to run her fingers through his hair.
"I'm sorry, Adrien. I know how uncomfortable you can get when you're working with a team you don't know. Is there anything I can do to help?" She said softly.
"Just having you here is enough for me, m'lady. And maybe accompany me to the next photoshoot I do?"
"I'll be there, kitty. Just let me know when and where."
"And maybe we can go get something after? Like ice cream or something?"
Marinette's heart sped up as she took in Adrien's nervous face. Was he asking her out? No, there was no way he could still have feelings for Ladybug after her countless rejections. He probably was just nervous because this was the first time he asked her to do something since the events of yesterday.
"Sure thing. I'll make sure that is my top priority." She tapped his nose.
Adrien grabbed her hand and placed a kiss on it.
"And you're mine."
"Silly kitty." She said, trying to keep a lighthearted tone even as a blush spread across her face.
"Well, that's new." He smirked. "Did I just make the Ladybug blush? Finally falling for me, are you?"
"In your dreams." Marinette shook her head, even though he wasn't wrong.
"Every night." He sang.
Marinette squashed down the part of her that felt like flying. He was just joking around, like always. It was part of his M.O. after all. This was Adrien, yes, but this was also Chat Noir. Punster and jokester extraordinaire! As much as she wished he was serious, she could never be sure with him.
"I find that highly improbable." She shook her head.
"Don't doubt me, bugaboo." They exchanged knowing glances, laughter tugging at their lips.
"What the heck is this!" Their tranquility however, quickly came to a close. "Adrikins! What are you doing cuddling up with Dupain-Cheng?" Chloe's aghast look on her face only made Marinette more tempted to laugh.
Adrien's somber face quickly stopped that, though.
"Chloe, look,"
"No! I won't look! You deserve better than this low-life, Adrien." Chloe shot Marinette a glare as Adrien sat up.
"Do not call her a lowlife." He said slowly, his eyes narrowed and his voice low. "I care about her more than you could ever imagine. So either you learn to be mature and tolerate her, or we just won't be friends anymore."
"Adrien! You aren't seriously going to make me choose!"
"I am, Chloe. It's about time you learn to be nice and if this is what it takes then so be it."
"Ugh, you're ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!" She stormed off, Sabrina spotting her and calling after her.
"Sorry about that, now where were we?" Adrien laid back down.
"I believe I was questioning your abilities."
"You wound me, bugaboo." He stuck his lips out in a pout that was just way too cute for her liking.
"I guess I'll just have to nurse you back to health, then." Marinette said quietly, Adrien's words from just a few moments ago playing on loop in her head.
'I care about her more than you could ever imagine.'
Could he possibly still be in love with her? Could she really be that lucky?
"Oh, and what exactly would nursing me back to health mean?" He grinned.
"Hmm, maybe, this?" She ran her hands through his hair.
"That's nice, definitely."
"And maybe a bit more of this." She leaned down, pressing her nose to his in a kitten kiss. His eyes sparkled as he pecked her nose, lighting a fire in her heart.
Maybe it wouldn't be so crazy for him to love her back after all.
"That will be welcome anywhere, anytime."
"Anytime?" She raised her eyebrows. "You sure you want to make that bet with me?"
"Absolutely, bugaboo. After all, you're supposed to be the responsible one, are you not?"
"Boo. I hate that you're right."
He gave her that cat's grin that she loved so much, although he would never hear it from her.
"You love me." He said, winking.
"Maybe, maybe not." She tapped his nose. "You'll never get the answer from me."
"That is all the answer I need, my lady." He whispered, eyes softening.
"What do you mean?" Her voice raised an octave as a blush came over her face.
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, I would like to know!"
He tapped his head twice before doing the same to hers. Then, he slowly lifted his head towards hers. Her eyes widened, her hands became clammy as butterflies erupted in her stomach. His lips stopped right on her ear and she closed her eyes, preparing for whatever he would say.
"It's a secret." He practically purred, sending a shiver through her before she processed what he said.
"Adrien Agreste!" She scolded as he burst into laughter. "Okay, that's enough, get off of my lap." She shoved him playfully.
"Aww, I'm sorry, m'lady."
"Nope! Off!" She crossed her arms and turned her head away.
"Fine." He sighed. "Class starts soon anyways." He stood up, stretched and then offered his hand out to her. "Ready to be early for once in your life?"
"Oh hardy har. Need I remind you that your record isn't much better than mine, M. Model?" She shot back as she took his hand.
"Yeah, but I don't live right across the street from the school and could walk here in less than a minute, Mlle. Designer."
"Oh yeah? Well I-." Whatever Marinette was going to say suddenly escaped her mind as her gaze fell on the faces of two people.
Alya and Nino, sharing an expression of shock, disbelief, and questioning. The glare in Alya's eyes made Marinette gulped.
Uh-oh, this would not end well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nino couldn't comprehend the scene in front of him. He loved Adrien, he really did, but he was so incredibly dense there was no way that in the span of one night he would've come to terms about his feelings for Marinette, asked her out, and become comfortable enough to cuddle with her in public all within 18 hours.
Right?
Right.
Yet, there they were, Adrien with his head in her lap as he kissed her nose softly.
"It's way too early for this nonsense." He grumbled, taking off his glasses and wiping them down. He put them back on hoping for some sense of normalcy and...
No such luck.
Now Marinette was tapping his nose, her lovesick expression matching his perfectly.
"You see it too?" His girlfriend suddenly appeared by his side. Nino nodded. "Okay, so I'm not going insane?"
"Oh, I wouldn't count that out yet. Maybe the both of us are so sleep deprived we're just imagining our two best friends finally getting together."
"Yeah, that's a definite possibility." She muttered as Adrien whispered something in Marinette's ear, earning him a shove.
"Look at them! Did Marinette finally confess?"
"If she did, I've got a bone to pick with her. A year of trying to get them together and the night it finally happens she doesn't tell me her plans!"
"Adrien too. I thought he was still oblivious to his feelings for her." Nino watched as Adrien helped her up and the two matched his and Alya's gaze. Nino raised his eyebrows and Adrien gave him a dopey smile. "Apparently, I was wrong."
"Well, it's about damn time!" Alya grinned as they turned away. "Do you realize what this means, Nino?"
"Uh..." He wasn't sure if he liked the gleam in his girlfriend's eye.
"It means that I can finally tease her mercilessly about her crush on Adrien! And double dates, and getting to photograph all of their moments for the wedding album. Nino!" Alya grabbed his shoulders and shook him. "It finally happened! They're dating!"
The shock finally began to wear off.
"Oh my God! They're together! No more friend-zones he obviously doesn't mean!" Nino returned his girlfriend's grin.
"No more twenty-two step plans!" Alya exclaimed, obviously giddy. Nino couldn't blame her though, he felt the same.
"No more lovesick sighs that are only met with denial!" Although, considering Adrien, Nino knew that there would probably be an uprising in lovesick sighs. He didn't mind though, his best friend was dating someone who he obviously liked.
"No more calls at two in the morning worrying about her newest plans to confess!"
"No more questions about Marinette where I have to lie about her feelings!"
"This is one of the best days of my life!" Alya cheered.
"Mine too!"
"Hey Nino, do you think we should be concerned about us being more excited about this than they are?" Alya asked.
"They didn't have to sit through a year of mutual pining and not being able to do anything about it. This is as much of a victory for us as it is for them." Nino patted her shoulder.
"This is why I keep you around." Alya pecked his cheek. "Now come on! Class is going to start soon and I need my answers." Alya grabbed Nino's hand and took off.
"Whoa! Alya!" He laughed.
"No time for slowing down, I need my story!"
"Okay, okay." Nino shook his head at his girlfriend as she pulled him up the stairs.
Today was going to be great.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adrien hadn't even sat down for a minute before Alya and Nino nearly broke the door down.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng!" Alya yelled. "I've got some questions for you, young lady!"
"Oh no." He heard his lady (his lady!) gulped. Adrien held back a snicker.
He wasn't blind to the looks he and Marinette had been getting all morning. He would've been surprised too if some awkward duo in his class suddenly seemed to be the best of friends. But it turned out, he was one part of that duo! Ladybug and Marinette, just like he had hoped, turned out to be the same person! He no longer had to lie to himself about his feelings for Marinette, because he could love them both without feeling guilty for having feelings for two different people. They were the same person! Yesterday and today would definitely go down as one of the best days of his life.
Nino shook his head at his girlfriend as he walked over to Adrien.
"Hey dude." He grinned, holding out a fist. "Not so oblivious now, are we?" Nino wiggled his eyebrows, which made Adrien flush, despite rolling his eyes.
"Oh hardy har. You were right, I was wrong."
"Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to hear 'Marinette? No, she's just a friend!' right after hearing 'Marinette is the coolest girl in our class, she's so sweet and smart and always means well.'" Nino imitated a lovesick sigh.
"I'm guessing very?" He gave his best friend a sheepish grin.
"You have no idea how painful it was to see you two, obviously interested in one another," Nino raised his voice, "never confess or just flat out deny it over and over again." He shook his head. "You're lucky Alya and I love you two, or else we might've just locked you guys in a closet until one of you confessed." He chuckled. "But hey! You two got there in the end, Lord knows how," Nino muttered under his breath, "so congrats on finally getting the girl dude!"
"Wait, Nino," Adrien gave his best friend a nervous grin. "You lost me at 'obviously interested in one another.' What are you talking about?"
"Um, the fact that Marinette finally worked up enough guts to confess that she's in love with you? And that you guys are together now?" Alya butted in, ignoring Marinette's shriek of her name. "What else?"
Adrien's eyes went wide as he met Marinette's bright red face and his jaw dropped. There was no way. There was absolutely no way that the 'other boy' was Adrien himself! Nino and Alya had to be wrong. He couldn't be that lucky. But...
He watched as Marinette gave him a sheepish smile, memories of their interactions running through his head.
What if he was?
"Marinette?" He whispered. "Is that true? Are you really...?" He trailed off.
"Surprise?" She squeaked, she held her hands up and scrunched up her shoulders in a mixture between a shrug and jazz hands.
It was way too cute for Adrien's sanity.
"Oh my God." He whispered, then a little louder. "Oh my God. Oh my God!" A massive grin came over his face. "You're in love with me!" He exclaimed.
Marinette nodded, looking down at her lap. Adrien stood up, and grabbed her hands.
"I'm in love with you too!"
A collective gasp rose up from his classmates. Oops. In all of the excitement, Adrien had forgotten that he and Marinette weren't alone.
"So, um, yeah." Suddenly feeling self-conscious, Adrien dropped Marinette's hands and sat back in his seat, face burning.
The tension was so thick he could cut it with a knife. The only noise in the classroom was breathing and the air conditioner. It got so bad Adrien began to count.
He got to 83 before someone broke the silence.
"Oh come on, just kiss already!" Alix exclaimed.
Adrien saw more than felt, Marinette grabbing his head and tilting it up before suddenly, her lips were on his.
Adrien fell deaf to the cheers that rose up around him, all he could hear was the thumping of his heartbeat in his ears. All he cared about was the softness and warmth of her lips, sweeter than he could've ever imagined. A constant humming of 'Marinette, Marinette, Marinette,' in his brain.
Then, all too soon. She pulled away with a grin. Adrien knew he looked like a love sick idiot, but he didn't care. Because Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the love of his life, just kissed him! How could he care about anything when she was giggling with the most adorable expression on her face. He absolutely melted when he saw the adoration and love in her eyes. How could this possibly be real.
"Hey Marinette?" He asked, butterflies in his stomach and not even caring about the soreness in his neck.
"Yeah, Adrien?" She was smiling a brilliant grin that made Adrien feel like he was standing in the sunshine.
"Do you wanna go out with me? And maybe be my girlfriend?" He asked, turning around.
"Abso-freakin-lutely." She said, before pulling him back in for another kiss.
The classroom erupted into mayhem. Chloe and Lila began to shriek in horror, while Rose and Mylene began to shriek in joy. Alix was nodding her approval as Sabrina tried to calm Chloe down. Juleka gave them a smile as both Max and Kim began to cheer, Kim with loud remarks and Max with statistics about how good their relationship would be. Ivan gave Marinette a high five and Adrien caught Nathaniel rapidly texting someone (Marc most likely) the news.
"Wait just one minute!" Alya's voice rang out over the mayhem. "If you two weren't dating, then what in the world happened this morning?"
Adrien and Marinette exchanged looks of panic.
They weren't out of the woods yet.
