sea chanty | ladrien
The soft crashing of waves against the sand nearly lulled her to sleep. The bright full moon hung high in the sky, casting its light on the sea, illuminating her face.
Her eyes, a striking blue hue, were framed by long, thick lashes. Luscious hair the color of the depths of the sea spilled down her back. A soft, content smile that would melt the coldest of hearts sat on her face.
She couldn't stop staring at the sand, her elbows resting on the gray rock. It was as though her eyes were glued to the place she would never be able to go. She often wished she could go on land, and the black-spotted red mask on her face was something that had floated over to her from the sandy beach so close yet so far.
The smile disappeared from her face as she cast her gaze down. Instead of legs, she had a long, beautiful tail. Under the moon, her red scales seemed to shimmer black as her tail swished just enough to keep her above water.
She had always dreamed of a world where she wasn't a siren, where her voice wasn't meant to cause death or harm. Alas, no fairy would ever grant a wish like that, especially not to someone like her. Sirens were outcasts, even in the supernatural world.
Suddenly, she saw a creature appear at the edge of the beach and run onto the sand. Its fur was midnight black and it's eyes were a startling green.
Even from her spot in the sea far from land, she heard it whimper. Looking closely, she saw that its leg was wounded.
She bit her lip. It was clearly hurt. She couldn't let it stay there alone.
She dove under and burst forward, pumping her tail and zooming through the water. The sand might strand her, but that didn't matter.
Surfacing, she brushed her dry hair out of her face, somewhat thankful that her siren blood gave her the ability to leave her hair dry even when swimming. She was shocked to see a golden white glow turning the animal into a boy.
His hair was gold and his eyes were still the same startling green. He was wearing a black shirt with stripes on it and a pair of blue jeans that had torn, showcasing his bleeding leg. There was a long gash down his calf, and as the boy cradled it, he winced.
Shocked, she hesitated, an audible gasp escaping her mouth. The golden haired boy looked up and caught her eye. His eyes widened.
Slowly, he got up and limped towards her. The salty water lapped at his feet.
She frantically motioned for him to take a step back. Hesitantly, he stepped backwards.
Swimming up as close as she dared, she brushed a finger near the wound. He had gone still.
Opening her mouth, she began to sing an old sea chanty she had learned when she was young. Her voice, though soft, was melodic and enchanting. He almost collapsed, entranced by her beautiful singing.
The gash had nearly healed. Though there were still traces of it lingering on his calf, they were but scars. His mouth fell open.
She smiled up at him. All too late, she realized she had beached herself on the sand. The water was too far, and she was too weak from not being submerged to drag herself to the sea.
He quickly realized what was wrong. Stepping forward, he picked her up bridal style and waded into the ocean with her in his arms. He set her down when it was deep enough, ignoring the slight burn of the salty seawater on his leg.
She smiled softly. "I suppose we both should say thank you."
The smile he gave her was small, but took her breath away nonetheless.
"You healed my leg," he whispered. "Thank you."
"You saved my life," she replied, her voice still enchanting. "Thank you."
After a moment of silence, she spoke. "I don't think I'll ever forget you," she murmured. "The boy with hair of gold and emerald eyes."
"My name is Adrien," he whispered.. "And I'll never forget you either, Miss..."
She just smiled mysteriously at him and began to swim away. "Ladybug... you can call me Ladybug."
He watched as she dove into the water. The moon made her dark hair almost glisten. He stared after her in awe.
"Ladybug," he repeated softly to himself before turning away to leave. "Maybe one day we'll meet again."
