The New Holders: Part Sixty-Eight
Queen Bee heard something from Sabrina's unmoving form. She stood up quickly and wiped away her tears, hope and confusion clouding her thoughts.
But, it was only Sabrina detransforming. A blue light flashed, and she was in her civilian form again. Queen Bee tore her eyes away from Sabrina's colorless, blank face and instead focused on her Kwami, who was coughing weakly in the air, barely keeping herself afloat.
Queen Bee pooled her hands underneath the exhausted kwami, who plopped down in them.
"Are you-" Queen Bee's voice cracked. "Were you Sabrina's kwami?"
The peacock kwami looked confused. "What do you mean? I am her kwami. My name is Jada."
"Jada..." Queen Bee murmured. "Sabrina... she's..." Her voice trembled fearfully. "S-s-she's..."
A horrified look spread over Jada's face. The kwami quickly looked behind her, and she choked when she saw Sabrina's body.
She quickly turned back to Queen Bee. "Did you love her?" The question came out of nowhere, and Jada's tone made it sound like she urgently needed to know.
"What-" Queen Bee was caught off guard, but quickly found an answer. "Yes, more than words can describe."
"And I know Sabrina felt the same..." Jada muttered to herself, thinking.
"What are you thinking?" Queen Bee demanded frustratedly. "Are you trying to make me feel worse?"
"No!" Jada hissed. "I think I know how we can save her!"
Queen Bee instantly jumped at this. "How? I'll do it, no matter what!"
Jada grimaced. "It definitely will not be easy. You will need to wield both my Miraculous and Abeille's to activate the Power Of The Nines, and there is no telling it will work, anyway." She looked away nervously. "You could die as well."
----------------------------------------------
"Uh, Volpina, you should probably sit up before you kill this kid." Ladybug snorted.
Volpina shook her head in an attempt to shake her tiredness away. "What....?" She finally realized that she had almost fallen asleep on Jade Turtle's shoulder.
Volpina instantly sat up and tried not to stare at Jade Turtle's bright red face.
Chat Noir burst out laughing. "Oh jeez, she's blushing too!"
Volpina didn't realize. "Shut up!"
"Chat, quit it!" Ladybug huffed, although she looked amused as well.
"Oh, so it's okay if she does it..." Chat Noir pouted.
"What?"
"Yeah, Chat, what?" Volpina took advantage of this, making her voice high-pitched like a middle schooler teasing a friend about their crush and leaning forward with a sly grin on her face.
"Volpina, I swear to god-"
"Guys, shut up!" Jade Turtle spoke suddenly. "Look!" He pointed to the room Queen Bee and Steel Peacock's body were in.
Volpina turned around, and saw what he was talking about.
Seeping out from behind the slightly ajar door that led to Queen Bee, were golden strands of light. More and more of the light strands floated out of the crack of the door, illuminating the room in a beautiful golden color.
Ladybug slowly reached out and touched a strand in front of her, and felt a comforting presence run through her body. The golden power worked its way from her head to her toes, healing and soothing her nerves.
"Guys! Touch it!" Ladybug whispered excitedly. "It's a healing power!"
The other three each touched a strand, and felt the same, soothing healing power all over themselves.
Volpina felt her fatigue fade away, and parts of her body that were still sore and aching from being chained up for so long immediately felt so much better.
"Woah..." Chat Noir sighed deeply. "It feels so nice."
"You could say that again!" Jade Turtle grinned. "I haven't felt this well-rested in my whole life!"
Volpina suddenly noticed the ends of the strands were beginning to darken.
"Guys, let go. Something's happening." Volpina pulled away from her strand.
Chat Noir and Ladybug let go almost simultaneously, while Jade Turtle hesitated for a moment before letting go as well.
The ends of the strands began to turn blue, and the blue snaked its way down each strand, leaving behind a grass-green color on the glowing strands. The blue raced its way down the strands, eventually crossing into the other room.
"What's going on?" Ladybug whispered, worry laced in her tone.
"Don't move." Volpina said, gesturing to the strands that surrounded them all. "I don't want to risk seeing what could happen if we touched them when they're green. We're boxed in."
Jade Turtle nodded in agreement. "What do we think is causing this?"
Chat Noir grit his teeth. "I'm the closest to the door... Maybe if I weave through the glowing things, I can see what's happening."
Ladybug shook her head bluntly. "No, we can't risk that. What if you-"
"Chat's the most flexible of us all, Ladybug." Volpina interrupted her. "Have a little faith in him."
Ladybug flinched. "That's not what I..." She began to murmur, but her voice trailed off.
Volpina didn't wait for her to finish. "You can do it, Chat."
Chat Noir, with flexibility beyond incredibility, wove through the strands almost effortlessly. He came out on the other side of the strands, next to a wall that stood between them and the room with Steel Peacock's corpse inside.
Spotting a nearby hole in the wall, Chat Noir peeked through it with one eye. Instantly he recoiled and backed away from the hole, as his eye had been exposed to a brightness he hadn't been prepared for.
"What do you see?" Jade Turtle asked.
Chat looked again, this time prepared for the brightness.
"There's this person... I think they're standing above Steel Peacock's body... Who is that?" Chat Noir muttered, confused.
"Try describing them. It could help." Jade Turtle chimed in.
"And try describing what's happening as well!" Ladybug requested.
"Okay." Chat inhaled deeply. "Okay, so Mystery Person is standing above Steel Peacock... those light vine things are pouring from Steel Peacock's body... I think, anyway, it's really bright... Mystery Person looks like they're wearing something shiny... Also some sort of metal skirt?"
"Metal skirt?" Volpina wondered aloud. "Hey, didn't Steel Peacock wear a skirt made of her metal feathers over her leg armor?"
Ladybug thought for a moment. "Yeah, she did! Chat, are you sure the one standing isn't Steel Peacock?"
"Positive! Steel Peacock's hair is not that long."
"Wait, back up." Volpina demanded. "You never mentioned anything about hair-"
"Sorry! Mystery Person has long hair. I didn't notice it before, but they moved their head and I saw it."
"It's fine." Ladybug reassured.
"Wait, something's happening... Errgh, why are those stupid vines so bright! I can't see anything..." He looked back at them. "Sorry, I can't see anything in there anymore. It's too bright, I'm still seeing spots as it is."
Volpina nodded. "It's okay." She thought for a moment. "Okay, let's think quick here. MP has an armored skirt, and long hair. Who could this be?"
"I'd say Queen Bee, but she doesn't wear-" Ladybug cut herself off. "Wait. Chat, when you were looking through the peephole, did you see Queen Bee anywhere?"
"I'm about 88% sure I didn't." Chat Noir answered. "But then again, it was a limited field of vision, and it was so bright, I could have missed her."
"I'll take that chance." Jade Turtle spoke up. "There's a chance Queen Bee is activating the Power Of The Nines."
Volpina crossed her arms. "Okay, I'll bite. What's the Power Of The Nines?"
Jade Turtle thought for a moment. "Oh, god, where do I even start? Uh... So I don't know much about the full depth of it, but you know how the Bee hairpin has nine of those comb prong things, and how the Peacock pin has nine feathers? Well, in theory... and using the idealisms of Numerology... You can heal any wound with the Power Of The Nines."
"But wait, if Queen Bee is activating this power to try to revive Steel Peacock... Which, by the way, would definitely be something I can see her doing." Volpina paused, trying to find the words to phrase her questions. "How did she learn about the Power Of The Nines? How did you learn about it, too? How would she even activate it?"
"Master Fu taught me, I'm his pupil now. Training to become the new Keeper of Miraculouses." Jade Turtle answered. Chat Noir
and Volpina nodded, while Ladybug just looked sort of confused. "As for who told her, my only guess would be one of the Kwamis, but they don't drop knowledge like that very lightly. This is seriously risky stuff. As for your last question, Queen Bee activated this power by using both her Miraculous and Steel Peacock's at once."
Ladybug squeaked in surprise. "What- You can do that? Why haven't we done this before?"
"No." Jade Turtle growled. The three were surprised to hear him sound so threatening. "A human is only meant to transform with one Miraculous at once. Two is extremely dangerous as it is, and each combination has its ups and downs in terms of power and how much energy it'll drain from you." He looked directly at Ladybug. "The Ladybug and Chat Noir Miraculouses are the most dangerous pair, giving you the most power but being the most fatal of the pair combinations. Using the combined power of two Miraculouses will completely drain you of your energy, and could potentially put you in a coma."
He thought for a moment. "Although, I think this couldn't be as dangerous as I first thought. The Queen Bee and Steel Peacock Miraculous combination is probably one of the weaker combinations. Queen Bee does have a chance of getting out of this alive."
"Wait, so their powers combined can heal any injury? And that is one of the weaker combinations?" Chat Noir sounded mind-blown. "If mine and Ladybug's combination is the strongest, what could ours do?"
Jade Turtle looked hesitant to answer. "Don't look so eager! Just because I said Queen Bee might not die doesn't mean she's getting out unscathed!" He hissed. "She could lose her mind, given all of the power at her disposal. She's definitely going to be beyond exhausted after an ordeal like this." He paused, exhaling deeply. "Look, just think of how much you've accomplished using one Miraculous! You don't need to risk yourself just for some extra power. If we do that, we're no better than the villains who do whatever it takes for more power, instead of working for it. You can't get something from nothing, not without paying the price."
Jade paused, taking a moment to calm down a bit. "Okay, just think of this power like a nuke. Sure, it's there, and sure, you could use it, but why not first ask yourself what else you could do, and if this is really worth it. I'm not saying to never in a million years consider using this, just... don't use it unless it's bigger than life or death. But never, ever wear more than two."
Ladybug, Chat Noir, and Volpina nodded.
Ladybug swallowed. "So... There's a chance Queen Bee could die?" She spoke after a moment of silence between the group.
Jade Turtle nodded. "Yes. But the more I think about it, the better the outcome looks. They both did meet the criteria of one of the numerological representations that the Power Of The Nines takes into account, after all."
Volpina tipped her head. "What criteria?"
"Universal love."
