Chapter 4
Marinette POV:
Marinette looked out into the night sky, leaning on the railing of her balcony. She sighed in defeat and sorrow. Her and Cat Noir had defeated Garboman and saved Paris but it had been a close call. If her partner had showed up a moment later than he had, it would have been too late.
Marinette also realized that her nightmares from last night had come true...Cat Noir was different now, he wasn't the same lively and carefree boy that she once called her friend and partner. Now he was cold and aloof. He was a stranger.
"I'm scared Tikki" the dark haired girl admitted.
"We barely defeated Garboman, and his powers weren't even that powerful, what's gonna happen next time someone gets akumatized?" she told her kwami.
"It'll be ok Marinette, don't worry" said Tikki, but Marinette wasn't convinced. Their once strong friendship had crumbled and the bond they once shared felt broken.
Marinette's thoughts drifted back to Cat Noir's strange behavior, one second he was comforting her and kissing her forehead, and the next he was back to being serious and emotionless.
As much as she hated to admit it, she desperately missed the old Chat Noir. She missed how well he seemed to know her, she missed how he always knew what to say to make her feel better, she missed how he always encouraged her to always be her best self, heck she even missed how he was always flirting with her.
Most of all she missed how strong their friendship had been, how whenever she needed a shoulder to cry on, he had been there. Chat had always been there for her, and instead she'd rejected and poked fun at him.
"Why didn't I take his feelings seriously Tikki?" cried Marinette.
"You never realized how much something means to you until it's gone" the red kwami replied. Marinette could feel fresh tears well in her eyes as a droplet trickled down her cheek.
"I miss him so much Tikki!" wailed the crying girl.
"I wish things could go back to the way they were...If they did I promise I would appreciate him more, take his feelings seriously, not take our friendship for granted! I just..." Marinette could feel hot tears escape and roll down her rosy cheeks as she swallowed down the pain "want him back."
"Oh Mari" Tikki cooed
"D-do you think I have a crush on Chat Noir?"
"Mariennte this sounds like more than a crush, it sounds like...you love him." Tikki said in awe.
"Y-you think I l-love ch-chat noir!?!" Marinette said, the words barely more than a whisper.
As the words left her mouth, Marinette realized that Tikki was right. How had she not realized it sooner?
Marinette Dupain-Cheng was in love with Chat Noir.
And he didn't love her back.

Adrien POV:
Adrien lay in his bed, thinking about his lady... no Ladybug he meant, Ladybug.
His brain argued that he had a girlfriend and what he was doing was right. It said that he needed to be faithful to Kagami, and that the best way to move on from Ladybug was to not show his true feelings. To act cold and distant.
His heart however, had a different outlook.
His heart told him that he still loved Ladybug, and that with all of him, he could never let her go.
His heart yearned for her and was foolishly convinced that no matter what he shouldn't give up, that he should keep fighting for his lady. For his love.
He had tried to listen to his head, he had tried to not let his feelings shine through him, but he hadn't been able to help himself from hugging her...
And kissing her forehead...
And caressing her cheek...
And calling her m'lady.
He couldn't help himself, she was just so perfect.
"Her heart was taken anyway" Plagg said, pulling him out of his thoughts.
"I don't get why you even bother with girls, camembert is so much better" the black kwami continued.
"Girls don't stink like camembert Plagg" Adrien told his black kwami. "But I guess you're right, she loves someone else." He sighed in defeat.
And I'm supposed to be loving someone else, he thought to himself. Why he thought, why couldn't he love Kagami? Why couldn't he love her the way she deserved to be loved? The way he loved Ladybug.
"Adrieeen I'm tired go to beddd" Plagg complained loudly.
Adrien chuckled "Okay, okay Plagg" he said reaching over to turn off the light on his night stand.
He curled up under the covers, as Plagg snuggled into his pillow. "Goodnight Plagg" Adrien said yawning, as his eyelids became heavy and his emerald green eyes fluttered closed.
"Night kid" the black kwami replied.

Adrien POV:
"Adrien wake up, it's time for you to get ready for school" his assistant, Nathalie called through his door.
"Yes Nathalie I'll be up in a minute" the blond haired boy replied.
Adrien rolled out of bed and got dressed before heading downstairs for breakfast.
Come on Plagg" he said opening his bag so the black Kwami could fit inside. "Morning already?" Plagg groaned, "I'm tired Adriennnn"
Adrien laughed, knowing he was going to have to bribe Plagg with his weakness, "If you get up know...you can have some stinky, yummy camembert." Adrien said holding the cheese in his hand."
Plagg quickly got up after that, grasping the oh so delicious camembert from Adrien and settling into his comfy bag.
"You had me at stinky" he said munching on his beloved snack. Adrien laughed, shaking his head at Plagg before closing his bag shut and heading downstairs.
Once he was at the table he asked Nathalie if his father would be joining him. A shimmer of hope gleamed in his eyes, but like everyday the answer remained the same and his hope was crushed.
"Your father is a very busy man Adrien" Nathalie said with a tight face.
Adrien sighed, his father never had time to be with him, why would today be any different?
He finished his breakfast, staring at his empty plate before he excused himself.
"Adrien" Nathalie called after him as he left the room.
"Yes Nathalie?" Adrien said, turning his face to look at her, curious to what she could possibly tell him.
"Have a good day at school"
Nathalie looked as though she was going to say more, but instead she left the room, leaving adrien alone as a deep emptiness filled his heart.

Marinette POV:
It was lunch break and Marinette was sitting with her friends as they laughed and chatted cheerfully.
But the dark-haired girl didn't feel like laughing or joining in the lively conversation, too much had happened and she felt like she was drowning in her sorrows.
A permanent frown remained plastered on her face, replacing her usual bright, joyful smile. She started down at her food glumly as a sense of loneliness and longing washed over her.
Kagami was talking to Adrien about all of her mother's rules, and Alya and Nino were having an intense competition where they tried to throw food in each other's mouths.
Sitting with her friends made her feel even worse, they were happy with and together where she was doomed to be in love with someone who's heart was taken.
The blue-eyed girl felt an intense amount of sadness, as she realised that all this time this was how Cat Noir had felt.
Why had she been so blind about her feelings? She wished that she could go back in time and make him love her again.
Most importantly, Marinette wished that she could repair all the damage that had been done to their relationship.
Looking back, she realized that she had truly lost Adrien, he belonged to Kagami. But her heart didn't long for Adrien, not anymore. There was only him in her heart, taking up her everyday thoughts and appearing in her dreams. He was none other than Cat Noir. The boy of her dreams.
"Girl are you okay you totally just zoned out on me" Alya's voice brought the dark-haired girl back to reality.
"S-sorry Alya, I was thinking about... about stuff!" Marinette hastily replied.
"Look at them" Alya said angrily as she crossed her arms and glared at Adrien and Kagami as they ate lunch together.
Kagami saw Marinette and Alya staring as she smirked in triumph, proceeding to scoot closer to Adrien until she was pressed up against him and placed her hand on top of his.
"It's fine Alya I'm over Adrien, don't sweat it" Marinette assured her best friend.
Alya looked like she was about to argue when Luka walked over to their table.
"Hey do you ladies mind if I sit with you" the blue haired boy asked, looking into Marinette's bluebell eyes.
"We don't mind at all" Alya said eagerly, whispering something about a rebound into her bestfriend's ear.
Marinette's eyes widened at Alya's suggestion, she had never thought of Luka as more than a friend, and she was sure he would never be more than a friend.
Luka was a great guy, but Marinette just didn't feel that way about him. Besides her heart already belonged to someone else.
"You look upset Marinette, is something bothering you?" Luka asked, his eyes full of concern.
"No I'm fine Luka, I'm just thinking about... homework and how awful homework is yeah homework is just terrible bye!" Marinette said jumbling her words as she thought of an excuse for why she was sad. She was a horrible liar.
It wasn't as though she could go up to Luka and tell him oh yeah I'm upset because my super-hero partner who has had a crush on me, since day one, you know Cat Noir right? Well...I just kept on rejecting him and know he has a girlfriend and funny story I recently realized that I love him haha. Oh yeah and did I mention I'm Ladybug, the most famous superhero in all of Paris?
Why does my life have to be so complicated? she thought to herself.
Alya's voice brought her back to the present. "Girl you're spacing out on me again!"
"Sorry Alya, I guess I must have not gotten enough sleep," she mumbled.
"It's fine Mari, just chill and stay focused on reality!" Alya said, almost yelling the last part.
Marinette laughed at how silly her best friend could be, and tried to focus on the conversation.
"Are you sure your okay Marinette?" Luka said sitting down beside Marinette. Marinette blushed as she mumbled a few incoherent words and looked down at her food, flustered.
Luka laughed as he tilted her head up softly, so he could look into her beautiful bluebell eyes. "You know you can tell me anything right?" Luka said.
"Yy-eahh t-hanks L-uka" she stumbled out as she blushed a deeper shade of red.
Luka smiled softly, before grabbing his guitar handle and standing up out of his seat. "I need to go practice this new rift I've been working on in the music room.
"Mmhmm" Marinette said, not really paying attention to what he'd said.
"Marinette you should go with him!" Alya said, lifting Marinette out of her seat and pushing her towards Luka.
"Ok I guess to the music room" Marinette said, offering Luka a small smile.
Luka grabbed Marinette's hand and started to pull her towards the music room. Shocked at the sudden gesture she pulled her hand away.
Luka turned towards her, and Marinette could tell from the hurt and confusion in his eyes that she'd hurt his feelings.
"Sorry" she quickly said, grabbing his hand in hers, "I was just surprised that's all"
"To the music room then?" Asked Luka, a wide smile on his face.
"To the music room" Marinette tentatively. replied.
