Chapter 14

Marinette POV:

Marinette was laying down in her comfortable bed after her double date. She stared at her rose pink bedroom wall. Never had she felt so conflicted.

Luka had been so sweet all throughout the date, complimenting her, asking questions about her designs, and just being there for her.

At first she just wanted to lay in her bed all day feeling sorry for the awful situation she had put herself in. But she had unexpectedly had a great time.

But she couldn't help but feel her heart flutter when she saw Adrien's car pull up to her house. She had tried to convince herself it was because she was going on a date, nothing more.

But when the conversation had turned towards her coffee consumption, and Adrien had defended her she knew she was in denial.

Thinking about him right now and seeing photographs of his handsome face plastered all around her room; made her heart flutter and she could feel an inevitable smile tug at the corner of her lips.

She knew she was probably reading too much into it, Adrien liked Kagami, that much was painfully clear, why would he defend her.

He probably hadn't been defending her. She was just being stupid.

Her love life had always been strange, but never had she thought she would catch feelings for three guys at the same time.

Her mind wandered to all three of them. Adrien, her first love, who she had thought she would never get over. Come to think of it, she STILL hadn't got over him. Why couldn't her stupid heart make up it's mind.

Then there was Chat Noir. Her faithful partner, who had changed so suddenly, from being the goofy, cheerful, and compassionate Cat Noir to a cold, distant stranger. Just in time for her to realize her feelings for him. The love she had always felt but buried deep inside. If she thought about it, he probably had the most of her heart held captive, though it was hard to say with his recent behavior.

Who was she kidding, if anything his recent behavior had made her love his old self even more. Even those god-awful puns.

Then there was Luka. She'd known that he liked her ever since he got akumatized, but she'd never absorbed the information properly. He was amazingly sweet, but she couldn't help but feel misunderstood. He acted like she didn't have any flaws, as if she was perfect, rather than accepting her flaws and all, like Chat.

Maybe that was what she had done with Adrien, she guiltily thought to herself. She would have to stop projecting the image of perfection on him. Adrien did have his flaws, being completely oblivious to her feelings for example. She could accept that. Nobody was perfect after all.

She was interrupted from her thoughts of perfection by the sound of her phone dinging, alerting she had received a notification.

Glancing at her phone she saw that there was an Akuma sighting. Hawkmoth never seemed to take a break did he?

"No more time for daydreaming Tikki, looks like we've got work to do" she told her kwami. "Tikki spots on!"

There was a flash of pink light, and she had suddenly transformed from an ordinary girl into Paris' superhero, Ladybug.

Once she arrived at the scene she heard the Akumatized person's roaring voice "I am Puckster! Join my team or face defeat from my awesome hockey skills!" A boy dressed heat to foot in intimidating gear and a black hockey stick in his hands.

That must be where the akuma is, Marinette thought to herself.

She landed on the ground before, suddenly slipping on the slippery ice beneath her feet. Puckster had formed all of Paris into an ice city, just as Frozer had. She sighed, looks like it was time to break out the box of macaroons.

She ran into an ally and detransformed so Tikki could power up. She fed her Kwami the macaroon before transforming again, this time into her ice mode.

Now in her new transformed form, she was ready to face off against Puckster. But first of all she needed her kitty. It was going to take both of them together to defeat this puck hog.

She snuck behind a large net, while Puckster's back was turned. To her horror she looked down to see bunches of people trapped inside the nets, calling for her to help them.

"Don't worry I'll get you out of here." Ladybug whispered to the panicked civilians.

"Become part of my team Ladybug or get ready to eat my ice !" Puckster cried before shooting a puck towards them. The puck exploded and a yellow dust covered the people.

Once the dust had cleared she realized what had happened, the people had become hockey players!

"Nobody told me that there was a hockey game going on in Paris?*" Chat Noir said faking disappointment, "Looks like we have a goon on our hands M'lady?" he said teasingly smirking at Puckster's bright red face as anger radiated from him. It seemed like puffs of steam were going to come from his ears.

Ladybug looked at him, her eyes filled with confusion and glee. It felt like ages since she had heard Chat make a pun, and god was she esatic.

"Puck you Cat Noir!" She heard Puckster's voice boom from across the ice.

"That's not a very nice thing to say to such a sweet kitty." she told the villain, as a wide, teasing smile spread across her face for the first time in weeks.

Ladybug didn't know what had just happened, had she just... FLIRTED?

Chat Noir raised an eyebrow, before she blurted out something about having to fight the villain.

She skated at full speed towards the puckster, twirling her yo-yo towards his stick. But at the last minute he used his hockey stick as a shield, as a huge protective net was created from his stick, catching the yoyo in the net, stopping the acceleration that the yo-yo had gained in its tracks and hurling the yo-yo back towards her.

Before she knew it, a wide net came flying at Cat Noir and her, trapping them inside.

Marinnete sighed in frustration as she tried to get out of the net "He's like an even more powerful version of Frozen" she thought out loud.

"Key word being powerful." Chat Noir grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest in annoyance. Marinette felt her heart drop. He was back to being this stoic and impassive stranger.

She knew it wouldn't last...

Ladybug sighed in heavy disappointment, the old him disappeared so fast it was as though she had imagined it.

"Ha ha ha you two have fallen into my trap already, some superheroes you are." Puckster said sniggering smugly at the pair.

"You wanna play, fine let's play" Ladybug said, her voice filled with determination.

She wasn't afraid to admit that she had a bit of a competitive side, and she wasn't going to hold anything in.

"Someone's feisty," Said Puckster mockingly, "So, you can talk the talk but let's see if you can skate the skate Ladybug."

"Let me out if you're not afraid of puckster." she responded, knowing that if they wanted to defeat the hockey player, they would have to do it out of the net."

"Fine, let's see if you can bury the biscuit in the basket" Puckster retorted snarkly.

Puckster released them from the net with his hockey stick. Grabbing Chat Noir by the arm she swung them out of danger. "Hey that's not fair!" she heard puckster call behind her.

"I never said when the game started." she retorted, before landing behind a building.

"We need a plan," she told Chat Noir, who was standing stiffly. She realised she was still holding his arm and quickly dropped her hand. Why was everything so awkward now? What had she done wrong?

She needed to focus on defeating the akuma, which meant she had to work out the Chat Noir situation.

Ladybug opened her mouth when she heard screams from behind her. "We need to work out whatever's going on between us." she said, keeping her voice firm and serious. "But now isn't the time. I don't know why you're like this or what I did wrong or..."

She felt fresh tears well in her eyes before she quickly turned so he couldn't see the pain written across. Ladybug took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts, keep it together Ladybug, you can do this.

"But I need a partner, not someone to sulk in the background. Meet me at the Eiffel Tower tonight, we'll work stuff out then. But for now please don't be difficult." She pleaded with him, hoping that he would choose to stand by her side.

Had she been too harsh? No he had needed to hear it. FOCUS LADYBUG!

Chat Noir crossed his arms stiffly looking down at her. At first she thought she had seen a flash of regret and pain in his alluring eyes, but before she could differ it, it was suddenly gone, replaced quickly by his cold exterior, his eyes a void of any emotion.

"Follow my lead." she told him, before skating off to face Puckster.

Puckster used his stick to create a round rubber puck from thin air.

"Game on nasty bug."

"Don't call my dear bugaboo nasty you big blockhead!" She suddenly heard Chat's defiant, protective voice ring throughout the silent city.

He had stood up for her she thought in astonishment.

He had finally once more called her bugaboo. She hadn't realized how much she had missed the annoying nickname till now.

She felt a tug of sweet hope touch her aching heart.

Her dear partner, friend, love, was finally back....no. No he wasn't.

Stop dreaming of the impossible ladybug. He's gone. Your kitty is gone. She felt the shred of hope she had held onto be crushed by a deep self loathing and sadness, but before she could sink back into her deep hole of pity...

Ladybug had a job to do. She might not be able to save herself but she could save Paris.

She analysed the situation, Puckster had created himself a team from the civilians scattered around, one of which she recognised as Adrien's bodyguard.

"Two on six, that doesn't seem very fair." She taunted the supervillain.

"Life isn't fair!" Puckster roared at the heroine, before charging at her, his skatings making deep curves into the thin ice and his stick held high.

"Face off!" He cried, before whacking his stick at the two of them, throwing them against the wall of a building.

"I'm pretty sure that's against the rules." her partner groaned from beside her.

"He wants to play against the rules, fine let's play against the rules" Ladybug practically growled.

She got to her feet before calling for her Lucky Charm. She looked down at her hands, looking at the spotted scarf that had just appeared.

"A scarf? What am I going to do with this?" she said to no one in particular, before tucking it under her yo-yo string for later.

"M'lady watch out!" Chat called in distress.

She didn't have time to think of a plan before a puck cam soaring at the two of them, forcing them to skate in opposite directions.

She saw Cat's sore body laying on a patch of bumpy ice. He struggled to regain his balance and get back up, and her heart screamed in agony at the sight.

She needed to end this once and for all

"Stop being a coward and join the game!" puckster roared once more. She was really getting tired of this akuma.... Why was he so loud?

"No puckster! I won't play your slimy game! Is that all life is to you a game? I'm going to beat you fair and square by playing by my rules!"

She needed time to think of a plan, but unfortunately that was made impossible by pucksters constant screams and pucks flying at her from every direction.

Ladybug really was lucky that she didn't have to fight her battles alone she thought, re-joining Chat Noir.

"Hey can you distract him for a little bit, I need time to think." she whispered in her partner's ear.

"Sure thing LB" he replied, softly squeezing her shoulder in reassurance, before nodding and skating off to face the super villain once more.

Once Puckster was preoccupied, she could safely glance around. Her earring beeped in warning, she was running on limited time, she needed to wrap things up quickly.

Glancing around again, a plan finally formed in her mind. It was risky and not as well planned out as her others in the past but if it worked, she could defeat Puckster once and for all.

"Hey Puckster up for a real game?" she called out, distracting him from Chat Noir. Chat Noir took his moment of distraction to skate back to her side.

"You got a plan?" he asked.

"Yep, hopefully it works" she said, grimacing at the thought of failure. She couldn't let Paris down.

She looked over Chat, a deep part of her wishing that he would reassure her that everything would be alright. But instead she was met with emotionless eyes and a hard glare.

"It better," he grumbled out as he quickly turned his back.

As he turned away from her.

She felt another painful blow shatter her broken heart.

But at this point, she had gotten good at hiding her innermost turmoil. Not like he would ever care or notice.

She could mourn later. She had to carry out her plan she thought determinedly as she skated at full speed towards Pickster

Everything seems to be going to plan, except for the little detail she had overlooked. As she skated closer, she knew that something was wrong.

Perhaps it was the grin that gave him away, or the way he wasn't bothering to defend himself. One second she was skating towards Puckster, and the next she was being body-checked by his 5 other opponents. How could she have overlooked that detail?

"Oh no you don't, Cataclysm!' Chat Noir called from behind her.

She felt her body being grabbed by someone and pushed out of the way of a falling lamppost. She turned her head to find her face inches from Chat's who was lying on top of her, protecting her from harm.

He looked up at her, scanning her body frantically for injuries. Satisfied that she was alright he gazed deeply back into her eyes, and as if he couldn't help himself he light brushed a few midnight strands away from her face.

She gasped in shock as she stared back into his emerald eyes. She saw he was battling an inner war against his emotions, as anguish and longing shined through his beautiful eyes.

What was going on. One minute he was ignoring her, acting cold and distant and then the next he was back to his kind, protective and charming self.

What was he fighting so desperately against that was causing him so much...pain.

"I'll take care of them." he said shaking his head breaking the alluring connection between them. He reached out his hand, helping her up before running off to attack the hockey players.

She shook her head, trying to clear thoughts of how her face must be as red as her suit, and skated off.

She skated directly at Puckster, who took a defensive stance as expected. She pretended to trip, and swerved around the Hockey player.

"Hah! You clumsy bug, you don't have what it takes to be a REAL hockey player" he taunted.

Ladybug smiled, before expertly swinging under his know wide open legs, tying his skates together with her Lucky Charm.

Puckster fell to the ground, his hockey stick flying out of his reach. Ladybug casually walked over and picked it up, before snapping it in half. A small black butterfly flew out, which she captured
with her yo-yo, cleansing it before letting it fly away.

"Miraculous Ladybug!" she cried, tossing her scarf in the air and restoring all the damage done

She turned to the confused man in front of her.

"Wh-what happened?" He asked.

She opened her mouth to respond before a loud beeping in her ear reminded her that she was about to change back at any moment.

"Chat Noir, can you explain I'm about to transform back" she asked in a hurry. She saw him nod, and without another glance she yo-yoed off to detransform.
