Chapter 12
Adrien POV:
It was the end of the day and Kagami was still ignoring him. Marinette was nowhere to be seen either.
He couldn’t think straight, as much as he tried to remain focused on Kagami, his girlfriend, strange feelings for Marinette kept resurfacing and as much as he tried to push them down, he couldn’t lie to himself forever.
He raked his hair back in frustration as he felt hot tears of anger well in his eyes. Everything was so messed up right now and he didn’t know what to do or who he was.
His golden locks flopped onto his forehead and he buried his rosy cheeks in his hands, hiding his pain from the outside world.
His lips trembled as he shut his eyes tightly, trying to keep his sadness inside. He had to keep his cool composure. He took a deep, shuddering breath before fixing his hair back to its perfectly styled state and painting a fake smile on his broken canvas.
The shrill bell rang and he left the class, he had to make things right with Kagami, why couldn't he be a good boyfriend?
He ran to the science room, where Kagami's last class was. He had to catch her in time. He had to make things right.
Adrien arrived at the class and peered inside, luckily Kagami was still packing up. He watched as his girlfriend thanked the teacher and walked out of the room.
She looked at him, purposefully turning away as soon as she saw him.
"Kagami wait, I'm sorry!" he called after her.
Why did he always find himself chasing after her?
She turned around, looking him in the eye. "There's nothing to discuss Adrien. You're more important with other things than me. I understand."
He felt a deep pit guilt settle into his stomach. He really hadn't been spending as much time as he should with his girlfriend. He needed to make things right.
"Well I guess I might be able to check if Nathalie can rearrange my schedule to fit a date in." He uneasily told her, worried that he was making false promises.
False promises were basically lies. And he hated lies.
Kagami's face brightened. "That sounds perfect. I am available from the hours of 3 to 5 tomorrow." She said planting a kiss on his cheek.
"Okay, I'll pick you up then I guess" he said, anxiously rubbing the back of his neck.
He was saved from the awkwardness by Luka's arrival.
"Have any of you seen Marinette?" Luka asked.
"No I haven't, is something wrong?” he asked concern laced in his voice, he hoped she was alright.
"I haven't seen her since she stormed off at lunch, I'm really worried.” the blue haired boy told them.
He seemed to notice Kagami's glare and gulped. He had been so caught up in his concern that he hadn't realized he'd interrupted something.
“Why is everyone always so concerned about Marinette? I'm sure she’s just fine, knowing her she’s just being dramatic.” Kagami said bitterly as she glared at Adrien and Luka, her teeth gritted in irritation.
"I'm concerned about Marinette because I'm her boyfriend and she has been going through a lot lately." He angrily told the dark-haired girl.
"What do you know about Marinette's problems?" Adrien snapped at Luka. He didn't know why he'd said that, maybe he wasn't the only one Marinette had talked to.
But for some reason...he wanted to. He wanted to be one she trusted in him. Only him.
He felt an emotion that he'd only ever felt as Chat Noir, could he be jealous of Luka? And did that mean that he could have feelings for Marinette?
Luka scoffed at Adrien. "Oh yeah because you know so much about Marinette. I'm the one that wrote her a song!" He yelled.
“It’s not like you’ve been there for her, in fact I’ve been the only one there,. So don’t act like you understand anything about how she's feeling, model boy.”
Adrien was taken back, he'd never seen this part of the musician.
"I believe we were making plans for tomorrow." Kagami interjected, breaking the deafening silence.
Luka quickly composed himself. "I'm sorry, were you planning something?" He asked.
"Yes, in fact we were planning a date." Kagami told him, “before you interrupted with
"That's it! I'll cheer Marinette up by taking her on a date" Luka exclaimed.
"You two could always join us?" Adrien offered hesitantly, not really wanting to spend time with Luka but trying to make up for his outburst earlier.
He didn't know why he had felt so jealous. He was in love with Ladybug, right? Maybe he needed to move on from Ladybug, he only had hurt her. She would never forgive him. He had damaged the best thing in his life.
What was he thinking? If he was moving on from Ladybug he should be focusing on his girlfriend. He should be focusing on Kagami, Why couldn't he just be normal?
"Sure I guess it can be a double date." Luka awkwardly replied, rubbing the back of his neck.. "I'm going to go find Marinette and tell her." He said waving goodbye to the unhappy pair.
"I'll pick you up at 3!" he called after the boy as he ran off to find Marinette, before tentatively turning to face his girlfriend’s wrath.
"We were supposed to work on our relationship and you invited others!" She yelled at him. Her tone threatening and her temper rising, as rage radiated from her.
If looks could kill Adrien would be ten feet under.
Adrien gulped, he hadn't really thought the whole double date thing through.

Marinette POV:
After lunch Marinette had hidden in the janitor’s closet until she heard the bell ring. She needed to be home. She scrambled around trying to find the door, but not before tripping over the mop and bucket, cursing her luck. Once she finally escaped the dark closet, she sprinted to her house as fast as she could.
She ran in the door, hastily waving at her mom before running upstairs to her room.
Panting, she pulled out her phone and was shocked to see how many messages she had.
The most recent one was from Luka, inviting her on a double date with Adrien and Kagami. Panic immediately coursed through her. A double date? With Kagami? What!? How did she get wrapped into this?
She debated making up a reason for why she couldn't go but decided against it.
She needed to stop hiding from everything. She needed to face the world. And that meant going on a date with Luka.
She then texted Alya, who had sent her many frantic texts. She responded to her, saying she was just having a rough day. Hopefully the reporter would buy her excuse.
After assuring Alya she was fine, she asked for the homework which the brunette immediately sent her.
Ugh, she had to write an essay. Where was she going to find the time for that?
Her phone beeped again, Luka asking if she was alright. She gave him the same monotone excuse as Alya, she was just having a rough day she'll be fine. She will be fine, she desperately assured herself. Maybe if she said it enough it would be true
Her parents then decided to come into her room. Hadn't they ever heard of knocking?
"Honey are you alright?" Her mom asked, she knew something was wrong. She couldn’t remember the last time she saw her daughter truly smile. .
"Fine." she responded shrugging, her voice unvarying, not wanting to elaborate.
"Well if you're fine then how come we got emails from your teachers saying you skipped your afternoon classes?" Her dad questioned.
"I don't want to explain," she said flatly. She wasn't in the mood to talk.
"Well until you want to explain you're grounded missy" he said firmly.
How was she going to get out of this one? Marinette said panicking, she had to keep a emotionless explore. They couldn’t know.
"Yeah okay whatever." she responded lamely. What else could she say?
"Sweetheart please talk to us," her mother pried. “We know you haven’t been yourself. We just want the old Mari back.”
"I DON'T WANT TO OKAY, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!" She yelled. Why was everyone so determined to know every detail of your life. It was her life!
"Oh sweetie," her mother said her voice filled with sadness, as she tried to reach towards her.
At this point Marinette was shaking with anger.
"JUST…
LEAVE…
ME..
ALONE!"
Her parents took a step back from their daughter, who now had tears running down her face.
"GET OUT!" she yelled.
“JUST GET OUT!”
Her parents gave her one last concerned look before regretfully leaving.
Marinette collapsed on her floor, slumping against her chaise. Burying her tear streamed cheeks in her hands.
"Don't you think you were a bit hard on your parents?" Tikki questioned.
"When did life become so hard Tikki?" She asked in despair.
