Cookie Thief
Marinette's teeth chattered nervously as she inspected her room. The Adrien posters had been painfully stripped off her wall and the empty spots were replaced with festive Christmas decorations. Still, she was nervous. Would her friends like the decor? Tikki floated above her shoulder, glancing at her terror filled face.
"Don't be scared, Marinette," the kwami exclaimed. "Your friends will love it!"
"Are you sure?" she asked. "I've never had a sleepover with more than 1 person, that person being Alya!"
"Yes, I'm sure!" Tikki said with a smile.
"But what if I'm forgetting something?"
"Well, do you have the snacks ready?" Tikki asked.
Marinette nodded, jogging over to her desk where a platter of cookies and a bowl of chips sat. "Of course."
Tikki giggled. "Then it looks like you're prepared!" Marinette noticed that her eyes wavered on the plate of cookies.
"You can have one," Marinette laughed, picking up a cookie and handing it to the kwami. She happily accepted the offering and began nibbling on the treat.
"After all, I'm gonna need all the food I can get," Marinette continued. "Almost all the girls' in my class are coming, except Chloe and Sabrina of course."
"Marinette!" Sabine suddenly called up the stairs. "Your friends are here!"
Marinette's eyes blew wide with panic. They were early! She hadn't anticipated that at all. "Coming!" she yelled back. Her frantic eyes landed on the kwami. "Hide, Tikki!"
Marinette scrambled down the steps, nearly falling. At the end of them, she regained her composure and casually strolled over to Sabine who was chatting with the first girls that arrived; Alya, Mylene, and Alix.
"Hey girl!" Alya exclaimed.
"Hi Marinette!" Mylene said happily.
"Hey," Alix said coolly.
"Hello everyone!" Marinette panted. "I'm glad you all could make it."
Mylene clapped her hands together. "Thanks for having us!"
"You look like you just ran a marathon," Alya laughed.
Marinette's pulse had decreased significantly, but all she could do in response was narrow her eyes at the brunette. Alya laughed at the expression.
Sabine watched awkwardly, and that's when Marinette realized they were still standing in the middle of the bakery.
"Let's, uh, go up to my room!" Marinette suggested. She turned and jogged up her stairs.
The girls all sat criss crossed on the carpet except for Alix, who leaned up against the wall. Marinette looked at her curiously, she seemed very uncomfortable.
"Something wrong Alix?" Marinette asked while Alya and Mylene made small talk.
Alix shrugged, looking away. "I'm just not used to this kinda stuff."
"It's okay," Marinette giggled. She patted on the floor beside her. "If it makes you feel better, I promise this won't be like those typical slumber parties you see in the movies."
A smile cracked on Alix's face. She uncrossed her arms and slowly approached the group and sat down on the carpet. Her face still read uneasiness, but at least she was making some sort of effort to integrate with the others. "So... now what?"
Alya had turned her head, hearing this statement. She smiled widely and leaned in closer. "Now we prank call."
"Not yet," Marinette laughed. "We're still waiting on Rose and Juleka."
Alya frowned. "Dangit. I so wanna prank call Chloe."
"That's what I'm talking about," Alix grinned, holding out a fist. Alya laughed and they fist bumped.
"In the meantime, though, we can start eating snacks," Marinette offered, standing up. She walked over to the desk and gasped when her eyes landed on the plate of cookies. There were only 5 left!
"No!" she shrieked, covering her mouth.
All of the girls turned their heads toward Marinette in shock. "What is it?" Mylene asked.
Marinette quickly swiveled around, covering the plate of cookies. She knew Tikki was behind this, but she couldn't tell her friends that! "Nothing!" she lied with a fake grin. "I just... saw a spider!"
They all blinked. That's when Alix got up and slipped off her shoe. Her face was filled with determination as she approached Marinette. "Where is it? I'll smash him to bits."
"O-oh it's gone now!" Marinette replied frantically, shielding the near empty plate of cookies from her friend.
"Marinette," Alix said, her voice low and dangerous. "I. Hate. Spiders. You have to let me kill it!"
Marinette didn't know what to do! She couldn't let her friend see the embarrassing plate of 5 cookies! They'll make a joke out of her. She needed to restock the cookie inventory without them knowing.
Her eyes glanced to the far corner of the room and gasped in fake surprise. "Uh! There it is! I see it!"
Alix screamed and turned around, wielding her shoe like a sword. "YOU'RE GOING DOWN SPIDER!!" She raced across the room, just barely missing Alya and Mylene who were still sitting on the floor. Their eyes followed Alix in shock.
Now that they were distracted, Marinette could easily make her escape! She grabbed the platter and her purse, slid across the wall, and dashed down the steps. Luckily, the yells and screams of Alix were loud enough so Alya and Mylene didn't hear Marinette leave.
She jogged down the steps and her heart stopped when her eyes landed on the front door. Rose and Juleka had come, and they were currently being welcomed in by Sabine.
Rose's eyes immediately fell on Marinette and she waved excitedly. "Hi!"
"Hey!" Marinette greeted nervously, once again hiding the platter from the two so they wouldn't get suspicious. "You guys can join the others upstairs, I just have to... get the newspaper!"
Marinette darted past the confused faces of Juleka and Sabine and out the front door. Rose just shrugged, not thinking a thing about it.
Unfortunately, Marinette couldn't get cookies from her own bakery since they didn't make them fresh until the next day. It was currently 8 o'clock at night and she prayed that another bakery would be open with cookies. She jogged down the sidewalk at a brisk pace.
Tikki sheepishly peeked her head out from Marinette's purse. Crumbs were covering her mouth as she looked up at the raven-haired girl embarrassingly.
"Sorry Marinette," Tikki said quietly. "I'm a horrible kwami."
Although she was a little disappointed, Marinette couldn't keep a grudge on her kwami and she definitely couldn't let her call herself horrible.
"It's okay," Marinette said, coming to a stop. "I should've known how much you liked cookies."
"Don't blame this on yourself," Tikki said. "It's my fault, you told me to only have one and I had... way more than that." Her behavior tonight reminded herself of Plagg's, and that was shameful enough.
"Looks like we both learned our lesson here, huh?" Marinette said with a smile, petting the top of the kwami's head.
"Yeah," Tikki giggled, flying out of the purse and nudging herself against Marinette's face.
"Just promise me you won't eat anymore cookies when I get more?" Marinette laughed.
"You couldn't even pay me! I love cookies, but I'm sick," Tikki replied with a grunt.
Marinette laughed again, walking forward with the cookie stuffed kwami slumped over her shoulder.
