Autograph Atrocity
Ladybug sat awkwardly at the autograph table, black Sharpie firmly in her hand. Chat sat beside her, smiling widely to the crowd of fans across from them. The fans were teenage girls, ages ranging from 12 to 19.
This was the duo's first official autograph signing since they began fighting crime. Their newly recruited, unofficial manager stepped in and arranged the entire thing. Her name was Sherry, and she convinced the team that it was time to give back to the Parisians. Once upon a time, Sherry was a fan just like all the others.
But she stumbled upon Ladybug and Chat during an interview and managed to convince them to let her help. She gave them her resume as another form of convincing. Turns out, Sherry was the manager of many other well-known people. And with all of the superheroes' newfound publicity, Ladybug thought it would be a good idea to have a manager. That way, things that Ladybug and Chat Noir were asked to do (speeches, photoshoots, interview, etc) could be dealt with.
But giving autographs to a bunch of screaming teenage girls just felt unorthodox for a superhero.
And that is where the current situation takes our superhero team.
"Who wants an autograph from the heroes of Paris, Ladybug and Chat Noir?" Sherry yelled, standing off to the side.
The teenage girls screamed in unison. They waved their phones excitedly in the air.
Chat waved back at them, smiling perfectly. He was a pro.
Ladybug followed suit, smiling and waving. She wondered how he was such a professional at this.
"Single file line please, right up to the table!" Sherry instructed, removing the red rope that separated the fans from the superheroes.
Girls clambered their ways out of the crowd and up to the table, messily arranging themselves into a line. Some girls pushed and shoved for their spot, earning a cringe from Ladybug.
A girl with blonde hair and brown eyes was the first in line, square glasses framing her face. She smiled proudly, a set of braces lining her teeth.
"Hi! OMG I can't believe I'm finally meeting you guys!" she squealed. Her hands shook feverishly as she slid the picture over to Chat so it could be signed.
"Thanks for being such a big fan!" Chat exclaimed, uncapping his Sharpie. "You're clawsome!"
"Thanks!!" she laughed, obviously noticing the pun.
Ladybug decided now was a good time to say something.
"What's your name?" she asked, smiling.
"Brandi!" she replied, her face growing increasingly red.
"That's such a pretty name!" Ladybug complimented. "How old are you?"
Chat finished scribbling his signature on the picture and slid it over to Ladybug.
"In 14!" Brandi replied. "You're so much prettier in person!"
Ladybug laughed, uncapping her Sharpie. "Aww, thanks!" She wrote her signature on the photo.
"Uhh, Chat can I take a picture with you?" Brandi then asked, twiddling her thumbs.
"Of course!" Chat yelled happily. He stood up and circled around the table, standing right beside the girl. He towered over her.
She handed her phone to Sherry, stood beside Chat and wrapped her arm around his waist. She grinned widely at the phone.
Ladybug sat at the table. She smiled at the two of them taking the picture because of how happy the little girl looked. It made her feel so warm inside, the joy on her face.
Also, Chat was totally a professional at this. He looked so confident. No wonder Brandi wanted a picture with him.
The little girl then turned her head at Ladybug. "Can I have a picture with you too?" she smiled excitedly.
"Oh, sure!" Ladybug exclaimed, standing up. She thought Brandi only wanted a picture with Chat, but apparently not.
She joined the two and gave the peace sign at the camera. Sherry counted down from 3 and then snapped the picture.
"Thank you so much!" Brandi exclaimed, giving Ladybug a big hug. The superhero knelt down and returned the gesture.
"You're so welcome!" Ladybug grinned. Brandi moved over to Chat and gave him a hug as well.
"Thanks for being such a big fan!" Chat exclaimed.
"Thank YOU!" Brandi smiled, braces shining. She then turned around and skipped away. The next fan walked up as Ladybug and Chat retreated back to their seats.
"Isn't this fun?" Chat asked Ladybug, glancing over at her.
"Yes. That girl was so cute!" she replied. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all!
-
As the signing was drawing to a close, 2 agonizing hours later, Ladybug felt like she wanted to pass out. She also felt the urge to text her parents because they were probably wondering where their daughter was!
"Thank you all for coming!" Sherry yelled to the slightly smaller crowd. "But our superheroes need a break! Stay tuned for the next signing on the official Ladybug and Chat Noir website!"
The girls all awed in unison. One even screamed, "CHAT NOIR IS SO HOT!" just for the heck of it.
"Wait!" one girl screamed out from the crowd. Ladybug recognized this voice...
Low and behold, a brunette with glasses peeked her head out from the crowd.
"Alya?" Ladybug mouthed in disbelief.
Sherry stepped forward, holding her arms out in a defensive motion. "I'm sorry, the signing is over!"
Ladybug quickly stood up from her chair. "Hold on!"
Chat smiled, recognizing Alya. "We know this girl! She's one of our most dedicated fans."
"No way! Chat Noir called me his most dedicated fan!" Alya shrieked.
"She can stay for an autograph," Ladybug said, glancing at Sherry who looked like she was about to burst.
"I'm sorry!" Alya quickly apologized. "I'll only be a few minutes."
"Fine. 5 minutes," Sherry said, clearly agitated.
Alya cheered and quickly walked up to the two heroes. "I would just like a quick autograph from the both of you. And... maybe a picture?"
"Of course," Ladybug smiled. She scribbled her signature on the picture, an "LB" and a rough drawing of her yoyo. The motion was like second nature to her after all the signing she had did today.
Chat signed it next, smiling happily. His smile never wore itself down. Despite being exhausted, he still kept the facade up perfectly.
"Thank you!" Alya cheered. "You know, I should really work for you two. Be your publicist or something. Or your personal assistant!"
Ladybug laughed awkwardly. That's the last thing she needed; being personally connected to Alya in her civilian life and superhero life!
Alya flipped her phone around so she could take a selfie with the heroes. "Say, Miraculous!" Alya exclaimed.
Ladybug and Chat both smiled, their faces now pulsing with pain. So many smiles in one day. There shouldn't be anything wrong with that, and there isn't, but having to smile for the camera hundreds of times in a day really works out your facial muscles.
"Thanks again!" Alya said, exiting the building. "I'll see you soon with our next interview!"
"What a snazzy girl," Sherry observed, crossing her arms.
Ladybug laughed, agreeing with her.
"Best fan out there!" Chat said.
"Can't argue with that. She's had our backs since day one," Ladybug commented. "She's also saved our skins, too."
"What an admirable young lady," Sherry said. "Well, time to pack up."
"Guess so," Chat stretched his muscles. He began folding chairs. Ladybug cleaned off the tables.
"Oh, you two don't have to do that," Sherry pointed. "I have men for that." She walked over to the heroes and pat their backs. "What you two need to do is relax and recharge for the next signing."
Sherry guided them away and to a limo. "You two are bigshots now. Gotta be pampered like celebrities."
Chat had a look of confusion on his face. As did Ladybug. They weren't pop stars. They were superheroes and they didn't want this treatment.
"I'm sorry, Sherry, but this isn't necessary," Ladybug explained, working her way out of Sherry's grasp. "We're superheroes doing our jobs. We don't need special treatment."
"Yeah, we really appreciate everything you've done for us but we don't want to be treated differently than any other Parisian."
"But you should," Sherry said. "You're the protectors of Paris. The valiant warriors that save us from evil. You deserve to be treated like royalty!"
"No," Ladybug laughed. "This isn't needed. We love helping people. We don't need this."
Sherry looked defeated. She dropped her head in shame. "Then why did you let me be your manager..." she mumbled.
"Because without you, we couldn't do things like this. Signings, interviews, etc." Chat said, placing an arm on her shoulder. "But there isn't any need for you to go out of your way to make us feel like royalty. We truly appreciate it, but it's not what we want."
"Well... okay," Sherry said, smiling admiribgly. "You superheroes are so humble and down to earth."
"Go on and relax for the rest of the day," Ladybug smiled.
"Thank you," Sherry said gratefully. "See you two soon!"
Ladybug and Chat both waved.
"As fun as this was, I must be leaving you my lady," Chat bowed.
"Unfortunately, so do I. My regular life awaits," Ladybug winked. "See you soon, Chat."
Chat bowed once more and then sped off.
Ladybug chuckled. What an interesting day of signing autographs. She just hoped she didn't accidentally sign her civilian name on one of the thousand pictures she'd signed.
