The Fearless Friend

Chloe stood there, frozen and dumbstruck. "... You what?" she sputtered out.

"Well, I didn't want to do this, but you picked up this jewel and tried it on before I had the chance to take it back," Pollen said sharply, "And now, you've made a link between the two of us and are now obligated to either renounce this miraculous, or, become a superhero."

"What?" Chloe was still very tense.

"Ladybug, Chat Noir, Carapace and Rena Rouge, if you know her, are all superheroes."

"I know what a superhero is!" Chloe snapped back.

"Well, they all have kwami's, which is what I am," Pollen sighed. "I'm going to give you powers, if you agree to be a superhero and keep your identity secret."

"... If I have to keep my identity secret, why did you do this in front of Adrien?" Chloe said, finally deciding to drop the chair.

"Well, you didn't give me much of a choice on that," Pollen said with irritation, "I tried my hardest not to but, you know, there's things out of my control."

"Adrien, you're hearing this, right?" Chloe asked.

"It's uh... shocking... yes..." Adrien said, nearing the foosball table, "I mean- uh- Wow?! Magic exists?!"

"Weird," Chloe muttered as Adrien helped her climb off the table. It was then that Chloe realized just how tall Pollen was. "Oh shit, you're huge."

"Oh dear, never comment on a woman's size," Pollen rolled her eyes.

"Oh yeah, sorry," Chloe muttered. "Ok, so let me get this straight... you can give me superpowers?"

"Temporary, yes. They only last while you are in costume."

"And where is that costume then?"

"It does not exist until you command it," Pollen said. "So, you will be the bee hero of subjection. When transformed into this, you will have superstrength, better agility, a super jump, and you'll be able to take more damage without it causing fatal harm."

"Cool, I guess," Chloe glanced at Adrien.

"You will have two superpowers which you will use for the greater good. One of them is called venom, which will give you the ability to freeze or rather, paralyze your opponents. And the other is toxicant, which gives you the ability to generate a poison of your choice... I recommend looking into poisons as a study side hobby. Now, when you use the toxicant, I will grant you the tool of your weapon, which will be a spinning top, in order to use it. But if I decide you are strong enough later on, you will be able to use it in various ways. Personally, I choose to spit poison from my mouth."

"Ew."

"Now, most of the heroes have added perks that don't necessarily count as powers. Ladybug, for example, heals naturally faster, and this remains in effect even when not transformed, so long as she doesn't renounce her kwami. For Chat Noir, he can cause more physical damage in fights, even without intending to."

"Wait, that's a thing?!" Adrien's eyes widened. Pollen gave him a warning look, then an angry one directed at nothing that clearly read, 'Plagg, you fucking idiot.'

"Well, of course. Rena Rouge can lie all she wants and everyone will have to believe her, even when she's not transformed. I mean... unless it's an outrageous lie, I'm sure," Pollen said, "And Carapace has more super strength than the rest of you to add to his ability of being a protector. And you, my dear," she crouched down to be at eye level with Chloe, "will cause more pain with each of your attacks. It will often result in a stinging pain, but either way, it doubles the pain of your attacks."

"Cool," Chloe curled her lip in disgust.

"You're going to like it. I don't care how you feel about it. You can renounce me right now and I'll wipe all of this from your memory and you can go on about your daily life in peaceful bliss."

"Will I be able to hang out with Ladybug?"

"Yeah. Sure." Pollen said flatly.

"Then I'm in!" Chloe clapped her hands happily. "So what do I do?"

"Just say Pollen, buzz on!"

"Ok ok," Chloe took a deep breath, "Pollen, buzz on!"

***

Three days later:

A cracking sound accompanied by a sharp snap as fire ate up what remained of the west wing of the Louvre Palace signified to the young heroes that hope was starting to vanish rapidly, especially in the hearts of citizens. It had been a day since the Pharaoh had appeared, and the people knew that akumas didn't normally stick around this long. The courtyard of Cour Napoleon was practically destroyed, revealing large portions of the museum beneath. Pharaoh was pretty bent on lingering in this area, though for the past few hours, he had been spreading his terrorism around the circumference of a few miles.

Things were getting restless. The team had to take several breaks to recharge their powers, and as if Pharaoh knew when these breaks were happening, attacks would always happen during those times. The worst attacks, really. Even Plagg was growing tired. How could he not after a whole day of this going on? They'd been up all night, and things were going bleak.

Ladybug worried about what their families thought. Her parents surely believed Marinette died at the Louvre yesterday. But there wasn't much she could do about it right now. Not when she could hardly catch even a five minute break from Pharaoh.

Tikki kept insisting Marinette let her out to fight alongside Plagg, but something in Marinette's gut told her not to do that. It was as if she knew something bad would happen if she did. Plagg was only out there because Chat Noir couldn't be. And the whole time he was refraining from using much, if any of his power. Especially with the abilities Plagg possessed, the fight would get very dangerous very fast if he even used a fraction of it. The lives of civilians would be on the line.

Every Lucky Charm she summoned was of no help to the big picture. It only ever gave her items useful for things she did on the side, such as providing a blanket for her to carry these two American kids away from the Louvre with. Carapace went out to find their parents, but unfortunately, they were long gone and the kids were alone. So, that blanket now became a source of comfort.

What she really needed was a giant Gustav gun again. Or maybe a nuclear bomb, for Pete's sake.

But the Lucky Charm didn't work that way. She couldn't pick and choose what she got, she could only summon it and know how to use it.

Pharaoh now had the face of Osiris, the god of death, to preserve his own "eternal" life, and inflict pain upon Plagg. Plagg was getting cornered in the rubble of the west wing which he had just destroyed to thwart the ways of Pharaoh, to no avail. As Osiris, Pharaoh was practically immortal. Fighting a god with intentions of winning was practically impossible. No. It WAS impossible.

"Give up, god of misery!" Pharaoh commanded, rising above Plagg with a dark aura about him.

"I am no god of misery!" Plagg said. He sounded weak, and Ladybug's worries now doubled. She had herself poised over the now shattered glass of what remained of the Louvre's pyramids, spinning her yoyo at her side, waiting for Plagg to provide her an opportunity to strike down Pharaoh. She was tired. She hadn't slept at all, and her energy was entirely depleted.

"Your struggle is pointless," Pharaoh snarled, "hand me the miraculous of the black cat and we can be finished here."

"No thank you," Plagg groaned, sinking his body into the rubble as if about to fall asleep.

"You can hand me your akumatized object though!" said a new voice. Ladybug's eyes widened as a new hero whom she'd never seen before arrived on the scene, swooping in from above, golden top placed in front of her as if ready to joust with it. She pricked Pharoah's shoulder with it, flipping over him and landing elegantly next to Plagg. "Was that good? I wasn't sure what to say to make my grand entrance with."

Ladybug collapsed onto her knees, tears of joy and disbelief slipping from her eyes. The girl's spinning top, as it had hit the shoulder of Pharaoh, immediately held him frozen in place. She was a shining golding beacon of hope.

"I'm Queen Bee, your new savior," the girl said and gave a deep bow. Her blonde hand was extremely long and held into a high ponytail where even then it was long enough to reach the back of her knees. Her bangs were long and divided in two parts, completely black and almost resembling the antennae of a wasp. She had an odd golden and black striped fighter jacket with peach colored fluffy puffs lining the collar. Underneath, she had a skin tight turtleneck which was black in color which matched the color of her leggings and fingerless biker gloves. Shockingly, she had thick platform heels on which miraculously, she was able to run and jump in like a badass. Her bee striped mask made her crystalline blue eyes pop.

Ladybug's mouth hung open, covered by her trembling hands as she fell forward, shaking and crying. He squeezed her eyes shut, feeling relief wash over her like a flood.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Rena Rouge rushed to her side putting a hand on her back. "It's ok, bug, it's ok."

"It's gonna be ok... we can make it..." Ladybug began sobbing.

"Yeah..." Rena Rouge looked to Queen Bee who was proudly approaching Pharaoh who was completely frozen as if paused in a game.

"This stupid field trip fundraiser thing was a total blow," Queen Bee said, getting closer to him, "I mean, how was this guy even related to my classmate?"

Ladybug felt her blood run cold.

What...

Rena Rouge had the same reaction as Ladybug, and from a distance where he stood, it seemed Carapace had as well. All three of them were staring at Queen Bee with horror stricken eyes. All the faces of Ladybug's classmate's came flashing to her mind. Tikki had mentioned at one point that the miraculous could change the appearance of gender to keep identities well hidden, so she wasn't ignoring any of the boys in this. And she knew it could change hair too, as her own hair was never actually this long in her civilian life. It could be just about any one of her classmates. Ladybug felt as though time itself was stopped.

"The only poison I can name off the top of my head is arsenic, but like... I don't remember what it does," Queen Bee said coyly as she circled back to Pharaoh. "We can see what it does though if you try anything. I don't know if you can actually like... break out of this or anything but still!"

"Kid, don't taunt him," Plagg said, weakly getting himself off the ground.

"Woah! Are you another one of those kwami things?!" Queen Bee said, placing a hand over her heart. "That's pretty cool, actually. Though, like, what are you even here for? Shouldn't that be Chat Noir? That's what everyone in Paris is wondering."

"I'm not discussing this again, it's a waste of breath," Plagg sighed. He rose into the air to become face to face with Pharaoh. He narrowed his brows. "I've never had to work with a subject of the bee miraculous, nor have any of my wielders, but it seems these powers have proven themselves quite useful. Pharaoh... where is your akuma..."

Pharaoh couldn't respond, as he was quite literally paused in time. Plagg hovered around him, inspecting each jewel on his body.

"None of those match what Julil would have been wearing," Ladybug said as she'd just swung herself over to them to inspect Pharoah as well.

"I noticed," Plagg said.

"Who's Julil?" Queen Bee asked. Ladybug tightened her lip. All the people in her class who were close to Alix were now erased from her mind as a possible identity of Queen Bee. She was trying not to think about it. She told herself Queen Bee was from another class there to do the same thing. She could almost fool herself, if only she knew it wasn't the truth.

"Ra..." sound escaped from Pharaoh.

"Oh no..." Ladybug's eyes widened.

"What?" Queen Bee cocked her hip.

"Ammun-Ra... give me... the sun!" Pharaoh said. His head turned into that of a golden falcon as the power of Ra flowed through his blood. He broke free of Queen Bee's power.

"Impossible!" Plagg said, grabbing both Ladybug and Queen Bee and backing them away as if to protect them. Pharaoh adjusted his head to peer down at the three as he rose steadily into the air.

"I'm not afraid to figure out what arsenic can do!" Queen Bee said with a trembling voice.

"That'll just give him a tummy ache!" Ladybug said.

"Well what can poison a god?!" Queen Bee shrieked.

"Nothing," Pharaoh said with a sharp tongue. Fire blossomed around them, and the world became sweltering with heat. "Your reign of power is over. It is time people know the truth of the world! And the secret to your powers!" Pharaoh sank closer to Ladybug, "by giving me your earrings, we can put an end to all of this. With the power of Amun and Ra, I can restore all the damage done to Paris. With the Power of Anubis, I can bring back the souls of the lives who were lost to this fight," he turned to look at Plagg sinisterly, "With the power of Heka and Ra, I can break your curse."

Plagg pinned his ears flat against his head. "Your power is all made up by the miraculous of the moth. None of it is real, or permanent. And so long as you remain akumatized, you will be a puppet under the control of Hawkmoth. You'll never get what you want."

"What curse?!" Ladybug asked, jerking up to see Plagg who stood stoically.

"Let the people of Paris go," Plagg said.

"Not until I get her earrings," Pharaoh said wildly. Ladybug's eyes darted to Rena Rouge, hoping she'd get the memo to begin the plan they'd brewed earlier. But it seemed Rena was too petrified to do anything at all. Ladybug fell into panic.

"I won't let that happen," Plagg said, stepping between him and Ladybug.

"Too bad," Pharaoh said. With a wave of his hand, stones erupted at Plagg's feet and cast him aside. He moved in on Ladybug.

"Toxicant!" Queen Bee called out, summoning the influence of arsenic to the tip of her spinning top.

"That won't be necessary," Pharaoh said, giving her the same treatment as Plagg. Now, nothing could stand between him and Ladybug. "You put up a good fight. I've looked up to you these past few months. I always wanted to meet you. Who knew it would be like this?"

Ladybug stepped back. "You can pry my earrings off my dead body!"

"That was the plan," Pharaoh declared, putting a hand to the sky. It seemed as though he were drawing sun flares down from the heavens, making the atmosphere even hotter than before.

"You'll kill people with that!" Ladybug said.

"I already have. I didn't care then, and I don't care now," Pharaoh said darkly. He grabbed Ladybug's chin with his other hand, squishing her cheeks with his fingers.

"Let me go!" Ladybug said, grabbing for her yoyo which was magically no longer at her side.

"No."

"Claws out!" cried a familiar voice. Ladybug didn't even have to look in its direction to see the flash of green light consume the identity of Chat Noir as he was in mid lunge for Pharaoh. She could have sworn she saw his eyes. They were human, and a beautiful shade of green, bright like the fresh grass of spring, calling for the end of winter–the end of terror.

Pharaoh was forced to let go of Ladybug to shove Chat Noir aside, but his attempt to do so failed. Chat Noir plowed through him, almost knocking his god-like stature to the ground. Chart Noir slid back on his feet, now standing in front of Ladybug.

"Keeping your god friend here would have been more use to your side of this fight," Pharaoh said, "It'll be too easy n-"

"RUINATION!" Chat Noir called out. A swarm of a dark aura flashed around his fist which he held over his head in the air. It looked almost like a cataclysm, yet different, as it was bigger with flickers and flashes of green electricity danced around his fists. Just as quickly as he'd summoned it, he released the magic in Pharaoh's direction, and horror quickly unfolded before Ladybug.

Cataclysmic destruction came in a massive blast from Chat Noir, ripping through Pharaoh's body and practically leveling what remained of the Louvre's west wing. The force from it knocked Ladybug back quite a few feet, and she hit her head pretty hard against the rubble. Pharaoh was down, and standing in the middle of chaos, holding it tightly by the reigns, stood Chat Noir, absolutely livid.

"Chat Noir!?" Ladybug yelped. Chat Noir, who was now shaken by the damage he'd caused, slowly turned to her, looking at his hands which were trembling without control. His eyes were scared. For a moment, she almost expected to see his human gaze she'd seen for just a second during his transformation. But instead, they were sharp and catlike as usual.

"I..." his mouth hung agape in shock. "I don't know what-"

Ladybug interrupted him as she'd jumped and ran for him, tackling him into a hug. "Oh my god! Where were you!"

"I-"

"What was that?!" Ladybug said, quickly pulling away but keeping her hands on his shoulders.

"R-ruination..." Chat Noir said. "I think I figured out... that secret power we were talking about."

"Damn!" Ladybug said, looking out at the sea of damage.

"Power of mass... destruction..."

"No kidding!" Ladybug said. She hugged him again, more tightly this time. "Please don't leave me like that again though!"

"Yeah..." Chat Noir said, glancing down at the ring on his finger.

It wouldn't be coming off again, would it?

"Pesky cat," Pharoah said, now lumbering toward the two. How was he alive?! Blood pooled out from his abdomen. "Isis, give me your magic!" his head transformed into that of a woman's with a magnificent headpiece. He waved a hand over the fatal wound and with a glow of gold, the skin and flesh sewed itself back together, restoring himself to his healthiest state.

"Oh my god, we are fucked," Chat Noir said, pulling away from Ladybug slightly to better behold the sight of Pharaoh.

"Rena!" Ladybug called out. Immediately, the sky darkened to a deep shade of black and reds. The sun itself disappeared from the sky as the moon rose more prominently in the center of the atmosphere, as if it were an eclipse.

"Julil Kubdel!" a booming voice said. Pharaoh froze in his place. Though he could not change the expressions of his face, his fear could be seen from a mile away. "I am Amun-Ra!"

"A-a-" Pharaoh looked to the heavens and fell to his knees.

"For the mockery of gods and the torment of souls, you exhibit the worst of evils. For that, no punishment could amount to the sins of your spirit," the voice said.

"What the fuck..." Chat Noir muttered.

"It's Rena Rouge, don't worry," Ladybug whispered to him.

"I-"

"You will be damned and stricken of your power if you do not submit to me now!" the voice said with claps of thunder echoing around them. Pharaoh put his hands up to plead.

"Forgive me!" Pharaoh exclaimed.

"We will see what Maat's judgment will be!"

"No, no, no!" Pharaoh said, shaking his hands. He began to chuckle darkly as he stood back up on his feet to face the sky with fists of fire. "I meant forgive me! Forgive me for what I am about to do!"

"What?!"

"You see," Pharaoh laughed even more, raising a pointed finger to the sky, "I have the power of Isis. Isis, the only god who could overpower Ra! I am not the one afraid here, it is you!" Lightning crackled from his finger and shot into the sky, aimed directly for the moon. As if it were a stone thrown in a pool of water, the sky and moon began to ripple in waves, sinking away until the darkness was no more and the sky returned.

"Fuck!" Ladybug shrieked. Pharaoh began to cackle in amusement.

"You think an illusion can trick me?! You think you can scare me?!" Pharaoh called up to the sky. "I am Pharaoh! I have the power of ALL THE GODS!"

Oxygen was suddenly sucked from the air in a sweep of wind, channeling to the heart of the monument behind the shattered glass pyramids of the Louvre. The lightning that Pharaoh had shot to the sky now returned to the earth, manifesting in a larger blast that surprised Pharaoh. He had no intention of the lightning returning. By all means of his logic, it shouldn't have. The wind picked up its current, now swirling into a tornado which spiraled around the area of the lightning strike. Aside from the sound of the roaring wind, all had gone quiet. That is, until an even bigger blast of light shot into the skies like a beacon of light, sprouting out in electricity, almost like the branches of a massive glowing tree.

From the beacon arose a person, arms stretched out at their side threateningly. Pharaoh now looked afflicted with fear for the first time in his reign of terror.

"What the hell is that?!" Queen Bee asked, collapsing back into the rubble in fright.

"It's..." Ladybug's eyes widened, "It's a..."

"I am Fraay!" their voice boomed, "the locust kwami of affliction! Submit to me now or perish by the hand of devastation!"
