Book 2 - A Heavy Burden
A/N I really wanted to make art for this chapter just to remind yall what the kwamis look like but I am currently working on a three minute long animation and so long as I obsess over that, nothing else can get done. rip. (It's for TGCF tho if you're a TGCF fan)
"You freaked out back there," Chat Noir said, curling his body around his knees. He and Ladybug sat at the top of the auditorium, looking over the busy street below. Ladybug was crying but Chat Noir didn't want to corner her on that.
"I felt like my mind was about to become mentally unstable," Ladybug admitted, choking on her words, "every muscle in my body hurts."
"Lay down, then."
"I have to go soon. Though my time limit is extending, it's not gonna last forever."
"It seems to me like Tikki is letting you stay," Chat pointed out, "but if you want to leave, that's okay."
Ladybug slowly allowed herself to play on her side, curling up meekly, like a mouse. Chat didn't feel well looking at her. She was so precious to him but felt so far at the same time. He didn't know if it was right to look at her and console her, or look at Paris and try to understand what they were supposed to do next.
"What were you about to say back there?" she asked, "before you got turned to stone?"
"I don't know. I was just saying things."
"Did you mean them?"
"I guess."
"I see." She hid her face under her arms and sighed. "How is any of this real? I don't understand why we're still... doing this. I'm so tired, you know?"
"I know," Chat said, opting to lay down on the roof beside her. He looked up at the gray overcast sky. "Two akumas in a row... I won't be surprised if there's another one tomorrow, or even today for that matter."
"He's changing his technique," Ladybug said, "he's not gonna let us catch our breath."
"Is it bad that I miss Carapace, Rena and Queen Bee?"
"Not at all. I wish Rena would help us but she's got her own issues to sort out. Plus she's still hunting for the Fox miraculous. And Carapace is now the master of the Miracle Box so of course he's got more important duties than helping us. And Queen Bee... I miss her," Ladybug admitted.
"We could ask to have her back."
"It's too dangerous. Everyone knows her identity."
"I know."
"What were you trying to say earlier?"
"You're asking again?" Chat Noir's throat protested his continued use of speech.
"Sorry, I shouldn't be bothering you like this. It's just... Plagg was acting so strange earlier and he had me all worried about you."
"I'm fine," he promised, "genuinely, I have no idea why he got so spooked."
"Right... good."
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," she said.
"Are you?"
"No..." she admitted, "I think I- I need a hug."
Chat Noir's heart sank. She sounded so helpless and vulnerable right now it almost felt wrong to say anything or feel anything at all. He rolled to his side and discovered her still curled there, crying. He wrapped an arm around her and brought himself close to her.
"You're the toughest person I know," he said to her.
"I wish I didn't have to be," she cried.
***
One month later:
"We're feeding them to the wolves if we let them go on like this!" Nino protested. The kwamis were gathered in the main room of the magically enhanced apartment Nino was barely able to afford. Most of the kwamis kept their eyes down, avoiding looking at Nino at all. Wayzz looked more disappointed than the rest. Nino was suggesting bringing back the Miracle team, and no one liked it.
"It is their duty," said Longg, "they have the two most valuable miraculous in our box, they can handle it."
"Daily! Not just once a day, sometimes multiple, Hawkmoth sends akumas relentlessly. The CITY can hardly recover!" Nino exclaimed. "If I can't get Alya or Chloe back then at least let me return to the field!"
"Your job is to protect US," Sass said.
"As if you're not godly deities who could obliterate any human in an instant! You don't need me to babysit you!"
"I understand your frustrations. But remember, despite all the power we have, Nooroo and–"
"Yes. Your friends are gone. That's why we're in this whole mess! I get it! But Ladybug and Chat Noir are my friends, and I can't stand to see them get beaten and bruised every day with no help!"
"It would be unwise to return any of the miraculous to the Miracle team," Longg said, "if I had my way, Roarr would be back by now."
"Roarr is helping Alya search for Trixx which is just as big of a problem as Dusuu and Nooroo are," Nino argued, "but you won't let Chloe back out there again. Not even Neptune?!"
The kwamis all shook their heads sullenly. Kaalki, usually a chatterbox, had hid herself in a corner almost regretfully.
"What about that new guy who has Orikko?" Nino asked. This instantly enraged some of the kwamis who were now shouting incoherent angry things.
"That is ANOTHER issue and is precisely why we can't send out another miraculous!" Sass exclaimed.
"He isn't doing any harm!" Nino said, "the guy seems pretty chill. If you would let me seek him out–"
"If anyone is seeking him out it's to take his miraculous!" Sass hissed, "if he actually cared about the akumas he'd be helping already anyway."
"He's doing a good job handling everything else. He's become quite popular already. I don't think there's any harm in–"
"Nino," Longg glared at him, "if you ever encounter that Roosterbold, you WILL be taking back Orikko. Understood?"
Nino scrunched his brows and processed their demand. "Fine. Let's hope I never encounter him."
"Why you–!"
"Everyone settle down," Barkk said with a soothing, relaxed voice. She didn't like participating in discussions, especially if they became argumentative. She was usually just clinging to Daizzi, not likely paying attention. "I think we ought to understand master Nino better. He's doing the best he can, and what he's saying, from a mortal standpoint, makes sense."
"Oh, says the LEAST sensible kwami," Stomp rolled her eyes. She only joined in to meetings if she could make a stab at someone.
"A mortal standpoint?" Daizzi quirked their brow. Barkk had her arm looped under the pig kwami's arm delicately.
"Mortals are easily overwhelmed. Ladybug and Chat Noir, though powerful, are still mortals," she explained, "I think we often make the mistake of assuming–because we look similar–that humans and kwamis are alike. But we couldn't be more different. Our emotions stay flat most of the time but when something in us stirs, it comes out like a tidal wave, whether of positivity or negativity. Humans can balance emotions and experience a wider, more broad range than we do. And I think that would be why they're so complicated to us. Humans aren't like us, but they also aren't animals. Nonetheless, we should recognize their limits."
"Barkk, Ladybug and Chat Noir are no longer just mortals," Longg stated firmly, "They exist above humans now that they are powered by Tikki and Plagg. And of all us kwamis, THOSE two are unlike anything this universe has seen. So yes, in any other scenario I would understand that humans tire and exhaust, but not with those two."
"You're wrong," Kaalki shook her head, still tucked away in her corner, "with Neptune, I learned more about humans in this modern world. She was a mother with only one son but even so, balancing her life of motherhood, career, and heroism took a toll on her surprisingly fast. It isn't just about physical strength. We have no idea how Ladybug and Chat Noir are fairing mentally."
Sass and Longg both grunted irritably in response but said nothing. Barkk took her turn again.
"Perhaps we should vote?" she suggested.
"Tsh. On what?" Sass retorted.
"To send another miraculous out."
"Too dangerous!"
"Then you can vote against it!" Barkk said, more demanding than before, "all in favor of sending one of us out there, at least temporarily, to assist Ladybug and Chat Noir?"
There were twelve kwamis present. Eight hands were raised: Pollen, Mullo, Fluff, Kaalki, Ziggy, Xuppu, Barkk and Daizzi. The majority won.
"No, no! That's ridiculous!" Sass protested, "none of you are even qualified to fit this type of mission you've invented. We'll only wreak havoc!"
"We weren't raising our hands to volunteer ourselves," Barkk said, "just to vote on whether or not we think Ladybug and Chat Noir should receive help."
"But from WHO!?" Sass exclaimed, "Pollen can't be in society for a while because of the Bourgeois girl, Mullo had one night with Theo as a hero and it ended quite poorly due to her lack of self control, Fluff already has a wielder–"
"In the future," Fluff said, "or present... For me, it depends. On you, it is the future. But I could be living the past right now, or watching the future. Or am I me, in the present–"
"Shut up," Stompp seethed.
Sass continued, "Kaalki already has Neptune but we are leaving her on hold for now until the time is right again. Ziggy has too dangerous of a power to be used at a time like this. "Barkk's abilities wouldn't help our hero duo out at all. Xuppu would only complicate things with his unless we were up against Hawkmoth directly. And Daizzi is... Well, Daizzi is beyond this sort of hero work."
"Then it won't be us," Ziggy said, breaking her silence. "Stompp may be good. A hero through her would be able to endure a lot. However, they wouldn't do much else in comparison to what our hero duo is already capable of. Longg would be our best option, I think."
"That's outrageous to suggest," Longg scowled, "I'll come out when I think it's fit. That likely won't happen for a long while."
Ziggy's eyes flicked desperately to Sass. "No," the snake kwami hissed, "what in the name of this forsaken green earth makes you think I would ever be willing?! I'm the main protestor!"
"Your hero would make fights shorter, thus giving our heroes the chance to breathe that they need."
"That's true for everyone else EXCEPT my hero," Sass said, "ignoring the fact that I'm strongly opposed to anyone going out there, were we not just arguing over how fragile human minds are? Do you not recall how many of my heroes killed themselves after going mad with time? Or is it that forgettable, because you don't experience the repetition and extension of time looping. To you, it's only a second in a fight shortened. To my heroes, they could be stuck in a living hell for eternity. While it would be noble to assist Ladybug and Chat Noir in such a way, I will not be subjecting any of my heroes to such horrors ever again."
"We know you don't want to put someone through that again, especially after last time," Barkk cooed, "I don't think it should be Sass. One of us is up for the job, surely."
"What happened last time?" Nino hesitantly asked. His curiosity had eaten him up alive. The room instantly darkened and Nino felt he had just trod on uncharted dangerous territory.
"You understand how my abilities work," Sass said gravely.
"Time loops..." Nino regretted asking.
"Many of my heroes have suffered in the past. Of course, they knew what burden they were taking on, they were aware it was very different from any of the other heroes. All of them were the strongest heroes of their time. Most suffered a similar fate in death."
"They kill themselves..." Nino heard Ziggy whisper, barely audible.
"In the mid 1800s, we had not yet left China," Sass explained, "my hero, who's name would translate to Snake's Eye, was rescuing people from a burning Buddhist temple. But, as it would be having the snake miraculous, it isn't just expected you save people, it's expected you prevent anything bad, not just to the best of your abilities but beyond them. So he set a checkpoint in time, starting it after already entering the burning temple. And he saved everyone after three tries. But that wasn't enough. He had to also rescue the temple itself, for it was sacred. No artifacts could be lost, and the temple could only sustain so much damage. There was no other way, for if the snake wielder walks away from their duty having only succeeded to a certain extent, people stop believing in them. Over and over again he tried saving all the people and all the artifacts and never could he get them all before dying himself or losing the temple completely. If he successfully rescued the temple, then too many people died in exchange. If he saved all the people, the temple would go down. Over and over again, he tried. For him and I, that event lasted days. To everyone else, the temple went up in flames and only ten minutes later would either all the people come out safe or all the artifacts. We lived through it so many times, I actually don't remember what the outcome of his endeavor was. I don't even know if it was worth it. He lived in a burning temple, in a time loop, for what would amount to several days. Dying over and over, failing and succeeding, and eventually, insanity took hold of him and he died, refusing to come back that final time."
"I'm... so sorry."
"I've refused to have a wielder since then," Sass declared, "unless a time calls where it is absolutely necessary."
But Sass didn't look confident in his words. He was speculating something and not making eye contact with Nino as he thought, mourned, and mulled.
"Oh, listen to me," Sass sighed, falling his head on his hand, "Dusuu and Nooroo, gone for twenty... no, almost twenty one years now. We have no way of knowing what horrors they've been facing and now Paris endures the consequence. If Dusuu's awake then it's only a matter of time before the worst sentimonsters conceived take over, if Dusuu is manipulated the right way. And what if Hawkmoth burdens himself with the brooch? Sentimonsters... what terrible creatures..."
"Sass, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have suggested you," Ziggy said, "You're right. No one is fit for your miraculous."
"There is always someone strong enough. The strong have their breaking points but what good is it to worry about repeating what happened at that temple if all of Paris is aflame?"
"Sass, you don't–"
"Master Nino," Sass finally looked up, "if I go, you must never send another miraculous out in my absence, you hear?"
"You.. actually agree to this?" Nino said in disbelief.
"I don't want to. But my vote in opposition was a vote against my friends who have been captured. I will go. But master Nino, there will be NO MORE miraculous distributed."
"I understand," Nino nodded.
"I have one focus. Help Ladybug and Chat Noir. That is all. When it seems they've regained their bearings, I will return. To assist in that quest, I am tasking you with research," Sass said. He motioned the Kaalki who seemingly understood something Nino didn't. Kaalki made a small portal, big enough to reach her hand in and pull a fat old book out of. The portal disappeared and she approached Nino with the book.
"This contains all the known extensive research of the miraculous which pushes the strength of them," Kaalki said, handing the book to Nino, "However, each miraculous is different and unique and requires special treatment. This was a journal written by a master of ours, three centuries ago."
"Our old master was researching the transformative booster abilities of the miraculous," Sass explained, "Such changes to them would allow our heroes to momentarily harness flight, breathe underwater, endure extreme heat or cold, and so on. But he couldn't crack the formula for each miraculous."
Nino curiously opened the notebook. It had illustrations on some pages, which were helpful because all of it was in mandarin and Nino could not read it.
"For example, here you will find the correct solution to make the mouse miraculous aquatic," Sass pointed to the page Nino was on. Sass traced his finger to the bottom where something was boldly written. Of course, Nino didn't know what it said, but he could tell it was important. "He tried this solution on the snake miraculous which resulted in a spontaneous combustion of the lungs. Luckily, it was the snake so the effects could be reversed. You must keep this in mind as you continue his research."
"Why haven't we been doing this already?" Nino asked.
"The solutations are complicated and very difficult to figure out," Longg answered, "our old master only got so far. You'll find the key to making the mouse, goat, horse, and dog compatible for excessive winter conditions, but the rest are blanks. And even in that situation, the sub research of each only went so far. Mouse has the ability to gain skates and skis, which was the furthest developed of the others, while the horse he could only get to tolerate extremely low temperature."
"So this all... changes the transformation process to fit the conditions of the fight?" Nino asked.
Longg nodded. "Unfortunately, the Ladybug and Chat were the most difficult. He could barely make any headway on either, and no complete solutions were found."
"Of course... and that's what I'm having to research..." Nino sighed.
"I trust you can do this. If I'm doing this mission for you, then you're doing this mission in wake of my absence," Sass said.
"Of course. Sounds super easy," Nino said sarcastically. "I can't even read this!"
"We'll help you translate," Ziggy promised.
"Wonderful," Sass said, "I expect to return soon. I don't want to be on the field longer than I have to."
***
"You seem... tired," Luka said to Marinette after she failed to respond to anything he'd tried saying in the past five minutes. They were in his bedroom. She'd been teasing the idea of learning guitar so he thought he'd try teaching her. But more than that, they were just spending time with each other. However, Marinette just seemed so down it was distracting. Then again, she'd spent most of the last month in a slump but wouldn't tell him what was going on.
"Struggling to sleep," was Marinette's response.
"Again?"
"Yeah," she sighed. Luka didn't want to pry further but he knew this was definitely not normal.
"I used to struggle with sleep too," he confessed, "white noise, asmr, melatonin... Nothing worked for me. It was because I overthought everything. I changed my nightly routine, forced myself to only think about positive things before going to bed and eventually it sort of just... worked?"
"Thanks but..."
"That won't help," Luka frowned.
"Sorry," Marinette apologized.
"I won't dig into it," Luka said.
"It's okay if you do but I can't... there's just..."
"I won't ask," Luka said.
"Thank you."
"... do you want to spend the night here?"
Marinette's face flushed a bright pink. "Luka!"
"I dunno! I'm tryna comfort you!"
"It's fine." She giggled now. Luka's heart felt lighter. Good. She was laughing. "That's sweet. But I can't."
"Parents?"
"No," she smiled, "no I just... Have other things."
"I see," he pouted. He held his silence, trying to come up with an excuse for her to stay over a little longer. Not that she was going anywhere soon but she did have a special talent for straight up leaving the function at any given moment. He had to make this moment last. "Will you watch a movie with me?"
"Hah, sure. What movie?" Marinette said, leaning on his shoulder where they sat on his bed.
"Whatever catches our attention first," Luka said, grabbing his laptop next to him and opening it. He navigated to a random streaming site and tried not to be embarrassed about revealing how much anime he may or may not have been watching to her.
"You watch documentaries?" Marinette snorted. Ah. So she didn't notice the anime but did catch onto the documentaries being recommended.
"They're good! And I like them as background noise or whatever."
"Caught Dead! Mysteries of the Edo Period," Marinette read a title. Luka wanted to die of shame. "Ghosts of the past 800 years!"
"Okay, I get it! They're dumb!"
"Rivalry to Teamwork;–" Marinette cut herself off for a moment before continuing– "ladybug... and Chat Noir– unmasked."
"Oh, that's new," Luka observed.
"Of course you would know that!" she teased.
"What! They can be interesting!"
"What do you think that one actually knows?" Marinette pointed at the documentary on Ladybug and Chat Noir.
"What do you mean?"
"No one knows their identity. How could you get any information to fill a... AN HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES?!"
"Are you intrigued?"
"...Maybe."
"So you admit you want to watch a, ahem, DOCUMENTARY?"
"...Maybe."
"Yessss!" Luka cheered minutely. He clicked on the documentary and the two got comfortable on his bed.
It opened with some cheeky intro, as any good documentary would. A narrator raised questions that there was just no way anyone could answer about the vigilantes, with the promise of somehow answering them, leading up to the actual beginning of the production. It started with some famous clips of the two heroes taken by professional videographers, but mostly from pedestrian footage. One, which had been the most popular by far and took the world by storm, was a video of the two heroes perched beneath the ledge of a hotel on a rainy night, standing so close it looked like they might kiss. Of course, that was a trick of the angle by which the video had been taken, but it was the one that made people start believing Ladybug and Chat Noir might have been romantically involved. Marinette scoffed when she saw it, and scoffed again when the narrator raised the question of romance.
"To find out, we have to start where it all began," the narrator said. The screen went black for a few seconds before revealing footage from news coverage of Stoneheart. "The first akuma victim Paris faced feels so long ago, but was only late August of 20xx *a/n don't come at me for putting xx for the date, someone lit my ass on fire at the beginning of this fic when I did that and I know someone will do it again so shut it, shhhhhh, you get to pick the date dum dum* Speculated to be Ivan Bruel, not much is known about how this villain appeared and why. It would be the first time we'd see our heroes public."
The documentary switched to an interview with a social researcher, talking about the topic. "I think most of us assumed Ladybug and Chat Noir had been waiting to take action. But after studying the found footage we have of this particular first fight for them and comparing it to now, I don't think this is the case. They're sloppy, they don't know how to handle their abilities, they don't even know what to call each other. Especially when you look at their recent fight against Prime Queen in January 20xx, it really does become obvious that this WAS their first time. The question is, did they know each other?"
"Ladybug and Chat Noir, beloved heroes of Paris, may NOT have even met before the events of Stoneheart. Were they aware another hero was waiting in the city? Or was this their plan all along?"
"We don't even know if they know the other's identity. I mean, no one does, but it's safe to assume they do."
The documentary continued, now pulling more video evidence and snips of interviews to prove that Ladybug and Chat Noir in fact DID know who the other was under the mask.
They were fifteen minutes in now and the documentary was revealing technology that could take off the masks of Ladybug and Chat. Marinette seemed agitated by this for some reason but Luka was excited. Of course, even after editing the masks away and revealing what was probably the face underneath, the documentary was completely unable to identify them. Not even a guess could be formed.
"Hah, Chat Noir with human eyes looks weird," was all Marinette said. Luka was more focused on Ladybug who looked an awful lot like Marinette... But without freckles, so it definitely wasn't her.
The documentary obviously later went off the rails trying to prove every theory it had was real and ended up making quite the mess of itself. First a claim that Ladybug and Chat Noir were reincarnated gods of the past based on some weird inhuman activities in historical China of all places, then making a claim that they were the inheritors of a holy mantle. Garbage baloney stuff. They really did like hammering in the China theory, pointing out what could have been called heroes of the past but were obviously just make believe. Luka didn't see any solid evidence. However, Marinette was thoroughly entertained, and that's all that mattered.
"I really should get going now," Marinette said after they'd stalled, having finished the documentary Luka just wanted to cuddle her a little longer. He felt better eased seeing she looked more cheered up now, but he still didn't want her to go.
"Okay," he said, trying not to sound disappointed. Marinette got off his bed and waited for him to get up to. He walked with her to the deck of the boat and helped her on the dock. He really didn't want to say goodbye but he also didn't want to come off as possessive.
"Thanks for cheering me up, even with that stupid documentary," Marinette said. She kissed him delicately on the cheek which made him flush. "I liked poking fun at it with you."
"It was really dumb, huh?"
"Oh, definitely," Marinette chuckled. "Goodnight, Luka."
"Goodnight."
Luka did not expect a seven foot tall bald man to have snuck into his room in the couple minutes he'd been gone but the bald man was there like a phantom. And Luka tried to scream about it but found his voice muted, his wrists bound, and his body suddenly on the floor in such incredible speed he had no idea how it happened.
"Alright, one more time," the bald man said with an exasperated sigh, "do not be afraid." Luka was very afraid. "I am Sass, a kwami of the Chinese Miracle box, and I am here to grant you the ability to be a superhero much like Ladybug and Chat Noir. Don't scream, every time you scream your sister runs down here, trips over your body, and hurts her head on your dresser."
HUH?
"I'll let you speak in a minute," the bald man said. Well... he wasn't bald. He was, given that he had no hair... But he did. It was just.... Scales? Turquoise scales and fins ran from his head down his neck like he was a cobra. "I chose you for a very specific reason, which I will reveal to you in a few minutes after I make sure you don't wreck havoc in this room as you have every other time I've tried this. I am the kwami of intuition. If it helps to think of me as a god, then think of me as a god. I am somewhat a controller of time but that mantle belongs to my sister, the kwmai of time. I can make you a superhero. To help you understand, Chat Noir and Ladybug both have kwamis as well. They are respectfully of destruction and creation. Without those kwamis you would not have heroes. Every hero you've seen in Paris is the same, even this new Roosterbold character who is actually breaking our rules. I will give you the powers of second chance, allowing you to control time by resetting it. A time loop if you will. Your duty is to aid Ladybug and Chat Noir so that they don't go mentally insane. However, you probably will yourself. You may speak now."
"What the fuck?!"
"How crude," the bald man curled a lip in disgust, "do you understand?"
"I understand you just spouted a bunch of hog shit!"
Suddenly, Luka's hands were free and the frighteningly tall man was crouched over him, "I used my power of second chance multiple times to do this conversation over and over, don't make me do it again. If you accept this power I offer you, you'll walk alongside Ladybug and Chat Noir. This is not the rekindling of the Miracle Team. However, if you do not accept this, I can wipe your memory and you will not remember this exchange in the slightest."
"What."
"The power to be a superhero. Like Chat Noir. Or Carapace. Or any of those few you've seen."
"Why me?"
"I'll get into that after you accept."
"Then I accept," Luka said hesitantly, "I just don't think I'm qualified."
"I don't think anyone is qualified for my power but you have a strong brain that knows how to handle traumas."
"....Great."
"This is the ouroboros bracelet of the snake," Sass, the bald man, declared, pulling the piece of jewelry from his blue robes (from the Tang Dynasty). "It will grant you the powers of second chance, and ability that lets you set a checkpoint in time so you may do-over an event as many times as needed for prime success. You must stay mentally strong with this so that you do not slip into madness, so use it with caution."
The freakishly tall man picked Luka off the floor and propped him on his feet before, with quite a bit of inner turmoil, passed the bracelet to him. Luka held it in his hand, not sure if he should put it on and truly accept this... divine power... which came so unexpectedly.
"Why me?" Luka asked.
"You're fit enough for it, I think. I didn't feel much of a tug but there was just enough of one."
"So anyone else would be better?"
"Probably. But not for my personal interest. You..." Sass considered his words, "you're close to someone I need to keep my eyes on."
Luka looked at him with great confusion.
Sass quickly moved to his next point in the discussion. "I am what's known as a yayue kwami, which means my weapons are musically based. This is likely the only reason I felt a connection to you. I see, by the number of them in your room, you play guitar. Is that your most skilled instrument?"
"Uh... Yes? I also play piano... and drums... and saxophone–"
"Oh heavens, never mention saxophone again," Sass scrunched his face in disgust, "your weapon will be a guitar. This will aid the use of your–"
"A guitar?" Luka's eyes widened in surprise, "I'm sorry– what?! Chat Noir gets that staff thing, Carapace has a shield, Ladybug has that... yoyo thing.... Grapple? And I get a fucking guitar?"
"I cannot tell if you are ecstatic or in negative shock."
"Shock! Because how do I fight with a guitar?! Wouldn't it break?"
"When Rena Rouge was active, her kwami was a yayue like me, which is why her weapon was a flute. She was powerful with it, no?"
"I guess..."
"You will have a guitar then. Unless you'd prefer to run around with a piano."
"Guitar is perfect," Luka mumbled.
"I would have rathered a lyre. That's my specialty instrument, but alas, players of the lyre are so rare to come by these days."
"When do I begin?"
"The next time Hawkmoth strikes."
A/N
I seriously debated whether or not I would make Luka Viperion because I think it's stupid in the show. So I came up with a reason for it here. If you didn't pick up on it, Sass is interested in monitoring Ladybug and literally only picked Luka because he's unknowingly dating Ladybug. And as stated, Sass did feel a small connection to Luka which is the only reason this would work (if he didn't and gave Luka the miraculous, Luka would probably die lol).
Viperion, as Sass insisted through this chapter, will be temporary. Not for the reason you think. Or is it? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (subtle foreshadowing?)
