A Little Late (Birth of Archie)
"Wait— what?! W-what do you mean "It's time"?!" Mint yelped, fear and shock washing over him at the words Bekkah told him through the cellphone. "Isn't it obvious-!? T-the baby's coming, you gotta come- NNGH-! Home r-right now!!" Bekkah exclaimed back, her voice laced with clear pain and labored pants, and Mint stammered to think of what he's gonna do.
"B-but I JUST got to the castle, Bekks-! It's gonna take me at least twenty minutes to get home!!" He exclaimed, looking at the Kandy Kastle in front of him. "I don't care if it takes you an HOUR, just GET BACK HERE as soon as you can!!" She yelled, letting out a loud groan of pain after.
"Okay, okay!!" Mint stammered, hanging up and pulling the phone away. He was quick to turn around, running back the way he came. "Oh geez, oh gosh--" He panted, heart pounding against his chest. NOW? Of ALL times, when he is on THE OTHER SIDE of CandyLand?! Geez, what a way to start the day. "Hang in there, Bekkah!" He thought aloud, his feet moving as fast as they could, on the way for a long and tiring run.
.............
After 18 minutes of running nonstop, Mint was almost fainted- so out of breath- by the time he arrived at the edge of Peppermint Forest. The only thing keeping him going at this rate is the adrenaline, he'd be passed out if he weren't in such a hurry to get to something as important as the birth of his own, first ever child. When he finally was there, he tried to run even faster if possible, up the trail to where his house was.
"Oh please, please be okay, please be okay-!" Mint thought aloud, panting in-between words as he threw the door open, and ran inside. "BEKKAH! I'M HERE!!" He called out, cupping his hands against his mouth to enhance the volume of his words.
There was silence for a few seconds, and right when he was about to call again, he heard a voice come from their bedroom down the hall. "I'm in the bedroom, Mint!" It was Bekkah. Her voice, however, was hoarse and tired, and for a moment Mint felt relief wash over him that she's alright. However, then, so many thoughts started swarming his mind. What about the baby? Ar THEY alright? Is it a girl, or a boy; their Clara, or Archie?
He ran down the hall, stopping at the door to open it, and peer inside. Bekkah was on the bed, seeming limp, laying back on the pillow and cushions of the bed, holding what looked light a messily-folded towel. She was looking down at it, a soft smile on her face, gently bouncing it, before she looked up at Mint. "About time you got here.." She said with a smile, and Mint in turn gulped and stepped in side, carefully closing the door behind him.
"B-Bekkah, I'm.. I'm SO sorry I'm late.." He said softly with a frown, moving to her side to sit on the armchair that was beside the bed. "Mint.. it's okay, I'm not mad at you.. besides, look who's been waiting to meet you.." Bekkah replied, and shuffled her position to turn the towel towards Mint, and his eyes widened at what he saw.
There, in the towel, was their baby, warmly bundled and cozy, letting out quiet whimpers of sleepiness. "Our son.. Archie." She said softly, smiling wide as she waited for Mint's reaction. His eyes were still wide, and he felt a smile coming to his face as he moved closer, putting a hand to Archie's, and he could feel tears welling in his eyes when he gently grasped his finger. "Oh, Bekkah.. he's perfect.." Mint whispered as he watched Archie's eyes slightly blink open, cooing again as he tightened his grip on Mint's finger.
Bekkah giggled as she watched the sweet interaction between the new father and son, moving one of her hands to rest over Mint's free hand. "I'm glad you think so.." She said quietly, and Mint lifted his head to kiss her cheek, still smiling ear to ear as he spoke once more, their heads resting against one another with Archie- now asleep- resting between them. "I'm so proud of you.."
