Chapter Twenty Six: My Lord
My jaw dropped, "Wow. I didn't know that."
Well, I was kinda disappointed.
I mean, Miles was nice and all... well, he was really just nice. That's all.
Suddenly, he burst out laughing. "Just kidding."
My eyes widened even more. "Wait- you have a sense of humor?" I asked incredulously.
His laughter stopped, and he glared at me.
"SO who is it?!" I demanded, loosing patience.
"Me," Aiden finally said. "I realized it when I was walking home from visiting my friend at night. You were walking from school."
I gasped. "I knew that wind voice was you!"
He smiled. "I also gave you the cat."
Now THAT surprised me.
"You... what?" I asked. "But you're afraid?"
Aiden shrugged. "I thought you could use a companion. And I knew I'd get over it. So I tracked down that cat and made Garret kidnap it. Or catnap. I really committed two crimes that day."
"Thanks," I smiled. Wow. That was almost... decent of him.
"Uh, no problem?" He asked, caught off guard by my thanks.
Man. I was starting to like it here. So now I really had to leave.
"You're... strangely calm about this all," Cole pointed out.
I managed a smile, "After the whole werewolf bomb, anything else that comes along will seem normal."
Garret smiled, "Good point."
I went over and sat down on the comfy couch, next to Garret.
Surprisingly, I didn't mind that much that Aiden was my mate. But it didn't change anything about my escape plan. I'm sure he would get over me. Or we could just date after I was home like a normal person.
"So now what?" I asked. "Anything else I should know?"
"Your cat is actually a girl," Aiden offered.
My jaw dropped.
WHAT?
"WHAT?" I exclaimed. Inky padded into the kitchen just then, and I shot him, or her, a glare.
"Yep," Cole smiled.
"Why didn't you ever tell me?" I scowled at my lady cat.
"Meow," She said, licking a paw.
"Yeah, well we aren't finished here. We are gonna have a serious talk later," I told her in a hard voice.
The sense of betrayal I felt at the moment was astounding.
"So... now that that's all out of the way..." Cole began, a grin lighting up his face. "How about we play a game?"
We all groaned simultaneously, including me this time.
"What now?" Garret complained.
"I like games!" Adeline beamed. They were too perfect for each other.
"Hmmm... that's a good question," Cole thought. "Any ideas?"
"Checkers!" Suggested Garret.
"Cards against Humanity!" Suggested Aiden.
"Monopoly!" Suggested Miles.
"Candy Land!" Suggested Adeline.
"Poker!" Suggested Cate.
"Chutes and Ladders!" Suggested me.
"WAIT!" Cole said. "I have the perfect one."
He looked at us all in turn, dramatically.
"Let's play... Aiden's idea!"
Everyone's eyes bulged. "WHAT?"
"YAY!" Aiden jumped and cheered.
"The kid friendly version of course!" Cole added, and Aiden stopped cheering. "Time for Apples to Apples!"
A couple minutes later, all seven of us were crowded around in a circle, with the cards in the middle.
Apparently this is how you play: Everyone gets five red cards. One person is the judge and they draw a green card with an adjective or sentence on it, and everyone else puts down their red card of choice to match it. Example: if the green card was 'Great', someone would put down the red card 'Caroline'.
I had all of my five cards.
Meatballs
Brushing your teeth
Finding a flamingo in your backyard
Becoming a blueberry
And for some reason, Aiden's doing I suspect, I had a card labeled drowning kids in a bathtub.
Hopefully I don't offend anyone.
"I'll go first," Cole said. Of course.
He drew a green card with the word Fun.
Naturally, I chose drowning kids in a bathtub.
Everyone put their cards down while Cole shuffled. And it was so obvious who chose what.
"Singing," Cole read.
I bet it was Adeline's card.
"Sex?" Cole frowned. "Aiden, did you put cards in here?"
"Yep," Aiden admitted. "It's more fun that way."
Cole muttered under his breath. "Being responsible."
That was Miles.
"Flirting with the waiter."
Cate.
"Accidentally tripping someone."
Garret.
And then he read mine. "Drowning CHILDREN?!"
Aiden burst out laughing. "HAHAHAH!"
Everyone else just looked disturbed.
Cole thought. "Um... singing."
"Yay!" Adeline smiled, and took the green card. "My turn."
She chose another card from the pile, this one reading, I drink to forget...
Aiden's card I suspect.
I put down becoming a blueberry.
She then shuffled, and picked up a card. "I drink to forget... my birthday?" She frowned, but continued. "Sandwiches, dried leaves, getting a cold, pumpkins, and... becoming a blueberry?"
I smiled with pride.
"I guess becoming a blueberry," Adeline decided. "I'd drink to forget that."
"Sweet!" I cheered. "My turn."
I selected the green card from the bottom of the stack, and read it. "Ew. I don't like this one."
"Then it must be mine," Aiden said. "Read it!"
"Er, ok," I said. Then cleared my threat. "Dirty."
There better be a card with Aiden's name on it.
Aiden frowned. "That's not one of mine."
"It means like, messy," Cole cleared up my confusion.
We nodded, and everyone put a card down in front of me.
I shuffled expertly. Just kidding. I messed up twice and Aiden had to do it for me.
But when it was done, I read my choices. "What's dirty... 'sickness'. Well yeah, that's pretty dirty. 'My sister'? Well, that depends on whose it is. 'Frogs'. It's true, they don't wash their hands-"
"Hurry up," Cate complained.
"Pancakes, Hope, and a banana peel," I finished. Geez, these were terrible. "I guess... Frogs?"
Garret whooped and grabbed the card from my hand.
We played three more rounds, until, of course, everyone became bored.
"Let's have lunch!" Cate suggested, and we all got up and left Cole and his board game.
