Chapter Ten: My New Living Arrangements

The creepy stalker guy that followed me and moved to my best friend?

Turns out he has a girlfriend.

Miles was already downstairs, sitting at the kitchen counter, eating a bagel.

"Good morning," Miles called when he caught sight of us.

"It was," Aiden complained. Miles's gaze moved from Aiden to me, and I was surprised by the intensity there. He looked like he was observing me. See what I mean?

"I'm not hiding anything," I snapped impatiently. Except food and weapons and a snazzy personality.

"Do you need anything?" He asked politely.

After the night I'd had?

"Some hard alcohol," I responded immediately.

"GARRET!" A voice shouted. I turned my head just in time to see Cole marching through the front door furiously.

Garret walked slowly down the stairs dressed in his PJ's, yawning.

"Wasgoinon?" He asked groggily.

Cole marched over to him, his face growing red.

"You tricked me!" Cole pointed a finger a him. "You pretended to haunt me to get me to buy your groceries!"

Garret looked taken back.

"That wasn't me," he protested. "Not that I wouldn't do it."

"You're always playing pranks on us! This has to stop," Cole demanded.

Garret threw his hands up.

"Woah, chill out," He said. "I can play pranks whenever I want!"

"Grow up!" Cole yelled. "You're what- 16?"

My eyes bulged. Sixteen?! A sixteen-year-old kidnapped me?

"Don't yell at me!" Garret exclaimed. "I didn't do anything!" Then he paused and reconsidered. "At least not while Caroline has been here," he corrected.

"Whatever!" Cole said, turning on his heel and storming up the stairs.

My eyes widened. Yikes!

Garret sat there, frowning. "Is this why I don't have a girlfriend?"

Miles frowned. "The pranks?"

Garret shook his head. "No, the fact that I'm associated with Cole."

I clamped my mouth shut to keep from laughing. Garret grabbed a green apple from the fruit basket on the counter and began polishing it off with his sleeve.

"Anyway," Aiden changes the subject, leaning against the counter with a banana in his hands. "We have company coming today, and you have two choices. Behave, or die."

My eyes widened yet again. These guys were finally taking their job seriously.

"A-" Miles began.

"No," He said. "That's the deal."

"Fine," I sniffed reluctantly.

Aiden stuck out his hand to shake.

I eyed it disdainfully. "I would, but the idea of touching you disgusts me."

He stuck his tongue out at me and I rolled my eyes.

"You have to act normal," Miles told me. "Don't Say anything about being kidnapped."

"And when he says act normal, he means act normal- but more social," Aiden added.

I scrunched up my nose. "More social? What do you mean?"

He nodded, "All you do is sit up in your room all day, talking to no one. As I said before- don't be antisocial."

I scoffed, "Who says I'm antisocial? I just hate you all."

Garret choked on his apple.

Then, the doorbell rang.

My eyes widened, but before I could make a move, Aiden was behind me, grabbing my arms and pulling them behind my back in one fluid motion, while covering my mouth with his hand. I considered licking it, but who knew where his hands had been.

"Don't. Say. A. Word. About. The. Kidnapping," He warned in a low voice.

My steaming retort was muffled by his warm hand, and he reluctantly let go as Miles reached the door.

I saw him open it, revealing the first girl I had seen in hours.

I thought I was beginning to loose my feminine qualities.

A pretty lady stepped into the room, and I tried to contain my excitement.

She was really cute, with medium length dirty blonde hair, and bright green eyes. She had dimples, and a splash of freckles across her face.

She sported a pink floral dress and sandals, and reminded me of summer.

I debated whether to just burst out yelling, "HELP IM A CAPTIVE!" Or not, but then I decided that I didn't want to die.

"Adeline!" Garret sang from the kitchen.

She peeked up instantly, and somehow became even prettier.

"Hi, Garret," She beamed. "Is Cole here?"

"ADELINE?" A voice yelled from the top of the stairs. Cole.

He raced down the steps, taking three at a time, until he skidded to a stop in front of her. Cole's blonde hair shade matched hers, which I thought was cute.

She launched herself into his arms while he hugged her to his chest.

I felt awkward.

They pulled apart, and as her eyes glanced around the room, she noticed me for the first time.

"Oh," She smiled. "I'm sorry, I'm Adeline, Cole's girlfriend. Who are you?"

I looked around nervously. What can I say to not die?

"I'm- uh- um-" I stuttered, trying to think of something on the spot.

"Um, she's..." Garret looked back at the guys for help.

"Um, she's my new girlfriend!" Aiden blurted. I turned to him in shock, seeing his tightly clenched jaw and twitching eye.

Adeline looked confused. "Well... you certainly seem... cozy with each other?"

I managed a smile, knowing it looked terrible, and Aiden looked like he might be sick.

"It's true," I said, wanting to annoy him. "When we met at that strip club, I knew we were meant to be."

"Strip club?!" He choked.

Adeline looked very startled, and I continued on, apparently not knowing when enough is enough.

"When he asked me what was going down, I told him, 'not my pants, mister', and then we danced like there was no tomorrow," I recalled. Aiden was probably fuming from behind me, but I didn't turn to see.

"That's... nice..." Adeline managed.

"I'm here," Someone announced from the door. "Now the party can start."

We all turned our heads to see another girl step into the house.

This time, she had long black hair and brown eyes, with tall boots, a leather jacket, and a devilish smile.

"Cate!" Miles smiled, pulling her in for a hug. She hugged him back, then broke off. Unlike Adeline, she noticed me immediately.

"Who's this?" Her eyes looked me over.

"Caroline Forbes, Aiden's girlfriend," Miles introduced. I winced slightly when he repeated that. "Caroline, this is Cate, my cousin."

I have a smile and waved, and she smiled back.

"So, when are we going?" Adeline asked.

Going? Are we leaving?!

As if sensing my thoughts, Aiden said, "Not you. You're staying right here."

"But why?" I complained. "I'm two seconds away from breaking up with you."

He leaned closer and whispered, "And I'm two seconds away from killing you. So shut it."

No way. If they wanted to kill me, then they would have done it by now.

"Try it," I called his bluff.

He narrowed his eyes into slits at me, and I narrowed my eyes back. We had a silent stare down, until I noticed that everyone in the room was watching us, and we both looked away, me clearing my throat awkwardly.

"I want her to come," Cole said.

"She's my girlfriend right now," Aiden reminded him. Miles gritted his teeth at him.

I glared at his head, and Aiden walked toward the door, causally saying, "Have fun here alone!"

"I'll have fun when I want to!" I shot back. Then paused. That was not my best work.

"Wait just a minute," Miles said. "Aiden, you're going to have to stay with her."

Aiden stopped, and turned back around.

"Why me?" He protested.

Miles smiled slightly and smugly, "She is your girlfriend."

He groaned and so did I.
