Hoseok || Megumi
The sight of Hoseok laying hopelessly on the ground with multiple lacerations in his delicate skin didn't settle right in Megumi's head.
She did what she felt was best, which was following Hoseok to help him clean up the various cuts dug into his arm.
Taking small but silently steps, Megumi led herself to the bathroom where Hoseok scavenged through the bathroom cabinets; knocking over various beauty products and medication.
Guess he had the same thing in mind because he was looking for peroxide to clean his cuts. His mind went blank when Megumi's arm reached out from behind him, grabbing onto a brown bottle of peroxide.
No words were exchanged except the constant stares they peeked at one another.
Using the clothe he had wrapped around his arm, Megumi unscrewed the cap and took a clean end of the clothe before drizzling peroxide over it,"It's going to burn—a lot."
"I've felt worse."
"I understand." Megumi didn't face the same demons as Hoseok, but she knew the pain that she dealt with at a very young age and still until now. The memories were still crystal clear of the various abuse. In an odd way, it always hurt more emotionally than physically.
"If you were me you'd know. But you're not so don't think you do."
Without hesitation, Megumi overlapped the drenched clothe over Hoseok's arm. In which he clenched his jaw while sucking air through his teeth; and clutched his fist so tight his knuckles faded white.
It was almost like a small payback since he had spat out cruel words to her just moments ago. Like he said, if you were me you'd know.
Ditto.
Nonetheless, Megumi continued to clean and nurse Hoseok, in which surprisingly he actually stood quiet and let her do as she pleased.
Only because Hoseok was so engrossed in one thing that stopped him from conversing.
He noticed the ink buried in Megumi's wrist. The ink created an image of an intricate lock on her skin.
It wasn't the fact that Megumi had a tattoo, but rather the fact that Hoseok had saw a tattoo strikingly identical to hers.
Hoseok ran his glare up from his arm to her face with utter blankness. There was no real emotion to his facial express nor tone of voice.
But the tension had been so heavy between the two that Megumi could feel his stares pierce right at her. She looked up to lock eyes with him.
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
Instantly, Megumi's body stiffened up to his question. The way his voice suddenly sounded so hoarse and angered, and with a straightforward question like that it left Megumi speechless. Instead, she just pushed her head side to side with a small gap between her tinted red lips.
Liar.
Hoseok didn't respond to her gesture as the demons and voices ruled over his precious thoughts. They whispered to him that she was a liar. Hoseok didn't know if it was true, but the tattoo told too much that caused his decision.
"You don't have to lie, it's alright."
He tugged away his arm from Megumi's care, and bowed his head slightly.
He took another glance at her wrist before walking away from the bathroom.
'What is that suppose to mean?'
Megumi frowned to herself.
The days were long and boring. Lately, the job to look after Hoseok gradually became easy.
But that was all because of his psychiatrist that he's been recently seeing these past days. Thanks to him, Hoseok was able to gain a small portion of his sanity back, or at least try to cope better with the voices.
It was weird though.
Each time Hoseok would come back from his appointments he'd always ask Megumi about her tattoo.
Knowing the deep story behind the ink, Megumi never gave away too much information to him. No matter how much questions he'd asked.
Nonetheless, Hoseok's behavior has improved, and it's been the first time Megumi actually seen Hoseok genuinely smile.
Because of his behavior, Megumi decided to take Hoseok out for a small walk just for fresh air. Plus the house must be like a prison to Hoseok since he barely leaves it.
In a way, Megumi was like the security opening up the gates of his cellar. She knew doing completely nothing with yourself would only result in feeling worthless, or forgetting your self worth.
Both bodies protected in heavy jackets stepped out the front of the house onto the concrete sidewalk.
It had been really cold, but that didn't stop Hoseok from walking far ahead from Megumi. He told her it's been years since the last time he walked out his own neighborhood.
Hoseok would smile and tell memories, or even point out new things that wasn't there years back. It sorta impacted him that many things changed and grew around him that he wasn't even aware of. He'd never know the last time he would see something until it's replaced.
The whole time out Megumi chased after Hoseok who happily enjoyed the fact Megumi was being more open towards his privileges.
They'd been out long enough for the snow to start sprinkling down from the sky. It made Megumi's heart hurt to see Hoseok be so amazed just by snow; as he stoke out his tongue to catch the little white specks.
Megumi watched Hoseok, and noticed the tip of his nose burned red from the cold. So she unwrapped her beige scarf from her neck, and wrapped the wool around Hoseok's neck. Folding it perfectly so the wind won't nip at his exposed neck.
With just that small gesture Hoseok's face burned red. The soft scent of Megumi lingered on the scarf, followed by a breathe taking smile on her doll-like-face.
The snow only complimented her fair clear skin that laid sprinkled on the top of her head and shoulders.
The only thing that brought a frown to his face was the sky growing dark, indicating that it was time to go home.
The whole time Hoseok obeyed Megumi's small orders, and even stood walking closely next to her the entire walk home.
Since it had been such a long day for Hoseok, he was already knocked out on his bed when returning.
Megumi stood by the foot of Hoseok's room door gleaming down at the sleeping figure. Lately, Megumi can't help but feel that all that really mattered was his happiness.
His tan skin was exposed as the light from a pushed aside curtain gleamed down on his face. Causing his skin to have a natural glow that was only achieved through makeup.
Not only Hoseok's looks drew in Megumi to get a better glimpse of him, but rather that he was clutching something in his hand.
Taking baby steps Megumi got closer and closer to Hoseok. In which she could see him in perfect rage to detect any small detail.
In his hand he held the beige wool scarf that Megumi gave him earlier. Even though he was sleeping he still had a firm grip around the scarf.
The sight put Megumi at ease knowing he was sleeping peacefully. So she leaned over and softly placed her hand over his head; running her fingers carefully and gently through the strands of his faded orange hair.
Megumi continued to do this until Hoseok's eyes fluttered open sleepily. It took a moment to process Megumi's subtle movements as he stared up at the blurry figure until it cleared.
Before Megumi could move her hand away, Hoseok clutched onto her wrist and sat up to wrap his arms around her waist.
He laid his head against her chest. Listening to her heartbeat pump fast which brought him to look up,"Are you nervous?"
Megumi gulped and simply nodded her head. She didn't really know what to do, especially wrapped up in his arms like this.
Hoseok frowned to her gesture. He didn't want her to feel like this, so he gently pulled her petite figure on the bed with him. Wrapping his arms in a protective manner around Megumi as they laid cuddled next to each other.
Megumi was caught in the moment, and decided to wrap her arms around Hoseok as well. Which resulted a sweet smile to form on Hoseok's pale lips.
But the smile soon faded away, and so did the moment when a single sentence left his lips.
"Your husband won't like this."
It was a long pause before replying to Hoseok's sudden words. Megumi stiffened up, and replayed the sentence back in her head just to be perfectly sure of what he said.
"What?"
Hoseok frowned and sighed,"You know, your husband. Same last name, matching tattoos—things like that—love."
Megumi broke free from Hoseok's arms and sat up from the bed in a panic,"What husband are you talking of?" She stared down at him with a concerned look.
Instantly, his lips formed into a smirk as he look up at Megumi,"Denial is expected when your with a guy this good looking."
Megumi's jaw dropped,"Stop playing around, I don't have a husband! Look—do you see any ring on my finger?" Megumi stuck out her hand to show an empty ring finger.
"Who would even be my husband?" Megumi had a slight sad tone to her words and sighed out an irritated breath.
Hoseok lifted an eyebrow,
"My psychiatrist."
-
The rest of the night was restless. Megumi hoped Hoseok a goodnight, and tried making a flee to sleep in another room; but Hoseok wouldn't let her leave so she ended sleeping beside him.
Megumi planned to attend Hoseok's next appointment. She just didn't feel right about it, and needed to clear things up, especially because Hoseok kept calling her a cheater.
Megumi sat in the waiting room of the phycrtist office waiting to be called upon by the lady at the desk. Megumi was an emotional mess while constantly twiddling her fingers, bouncing her leg, and nibbling her lower lip.
On the other hand, Hoseok had a sour expression on his face as he kept his arms crossed. He was still a bit upset over the thought of Megumi being taken to another man that wasn't him.
"This is unfair." Hoseok huffed out in annoyance.
Megumi shifted her head to him,"Hm?"
"If he isn't your husband then why do you look so pretty today?"
Megumi's face flushed a tint of red while tucking back a strand of hair behind her ear. She didn't really know how to reply,"T-Thank you."
"That's not the point—why do you even make me feel this way?"
"I don't think I've ever done wrong to you—I apologize if I did."
"No, I don't mean it like that. Megumi, I Li-"
"Hoseok your appointment is now." The lady at the desk called out with a friendly grin; causing Megumi to instantly take a stance off the chair and walk over to the door before turning around,"Hoseok, you coming?"
He had a dumbfounded look on his face that left an impression of red cheeks,"Yeah—sure."
When finally making way into the small room Megumi noticed how plain and simple it was. The room was painted fair with three seats along with a single couch long enough to lay on. It was only the desk that caught Megumi's eye.
A broad handsome man sat in the seat with his dark hair combed back, a plain white button down, and the identical tattoo imprinted in his wrist. When the man looked up, his face was similar to the face of Megumi.
In a blink of an eye, she knew this was her twin brother, Jo.
"Megumi—?" A voice once familiar to her spoke out subtly with a blank expression on his face. He didn't seem surprised like Megumi did, but rather taken back from the moment. As if he knew Hoseok was in Megumi's care, but didn't expect to see her.
After all, the two agreed to never see each other again after the horrific memories of rape and abuse. They just wanted to start a new life where those memories could be pushed aside.
Without hesitation Megumi ran into Jo's arms with her cheeks already glistening from tears. Her brother hugged her back with a look of guilt on his face.
From that moment on the two bonded again, and explained to Hoseok that they weren't married; but instead twins that have been separated for personal reasons.
Jo invited Megumi to come to his house for dinner, which of course, Megumi had no doubt in her mind not to bring Hoseok.
-
The three sat at the wooden table eating the food Jo had prepared right before they came, so there would be no wait to eat.
Megumi felt a bit unsettled despite being reunited with her brother. This was because from the corner of her eye she could already see Hoseok get fussy.
Hoseok would at times grab a hand full of his hair while shutting his eyes tightly, scrape his shoes against each other, and his stares would become blank at moments.
This worried Megumi, and she was about to confront Hoseok about it just when he stood and asked to use the bathroom.
When Jo gave directions Hoseok made a quick flee from the dinner table. Leaving both Megumi and Jo accompanying each other.
There was an awkward silence before Megumi opened her mouth,"You knew I was looking after Hoseok—didnt you?"
Jo was shocked from her sudden question. He just stared at her blankly before clearing his throat,"How'd you know?"
"I grew up with you, I experienced the same suffering as you, you're practically my other half, and the first time in years you see me—you don't get the slightest emotional. You looked more shocked to see me than happy. I'm honestly hurt by that."
Jo let out a sigh,"I kept my word not to see you ever again."
Megumi frowned,"You're my brother, Forget about the stupid promise! Plus—how did you get that tattoo."
Jo instantly covered his wrist with the same tattoo of the lock away from sight,"It doesn't matter how."
Megumi scanned him up and down,"Have you been stalking me?"
There was no response.
Megumi stood from her chair causing the legs to scrape against the floor,"It all makes sense. You knew I got this tattoo, you knew about Hoseok, and you knew it was me caring for him all along. Tell me I'm wrong."
Jo massaged the sides of his temples clearly in stress,"Don't make me sound bad, Megumi. You're caring for a man who almost raped you, and is practically taking advantage of your kindness. Are you trying to save him or something just because of your past? He'll never understand you, and you wanna know why?"
"Why."
"Because he only cares about himself."
"You don't even know Hoseok! Just because he suffers from schizophrenia doesn't mean he isn't human, so don't bash him for it!" Megumi was furious with her brother's response. Jo didn't see the same side of Hoseok as Megumi did.
"Don't be so pathetic, it doesn't suit you." Jo scoffed out in annoyance.
In that moment Megumi's eyes scattered away from Jo's and onto Hoseok.
Hoseok stood by the door with tears streaming down his face. The expression of guilt was written all over him, as he held a knife in his hand. The tip was covered in blood that was his own.
Megumi ran over to Hoseok and hugged him. What she didn't know was that Hoseok had become madly jealous over Jo. Even after finding out Megumi was single he still felt as if he would be replaced.
The truth was Hoseok has become so emotionally attached to Megumi that the thought of another man pissed him off. Hoseok put scars on himself, and felt guilty of the pain he made himself feel just to get Megumi's attention.
Megumi shifted her head to Jo,"Let's never see each other again."
-
It was a total mess. Megumi brought Hoseok home and nurse his bloody cuts against his wrist.
Hoseok sat on the sofa while Megumi cleaned him up. He felt guilty yet satisfied to have her to himself again.
And it stayed that way.
Megumi stayed by Hoseok's side for years, and accidentally fell in love with him.
It was one hell of a depressing and long ride to get to the way Hoseok and Megumi are now.
Hoseok loved Megumi so much that he imprinted an image of a lock into his skin with a knife the same day Megumi reunited with Jo.
The scar of a lock remains carved into his wrist, which he proudly wears for the rest of his life.
