The wedding

It took about six months to plan everything and another two to calm Tony. It was September 21st now, the day of the wedding and Tony was pacing in front of Tawny's bedroom door anxiously. As much as he hadn't been thrilled by the wedding he'd been unable to say no to anything his little girl had requested, not that she'd asked for much all things considered. The day of the wedding seemed to have barreled to them full speed and long before Tony was ready it was there.

He stepped in timidly, which was a whole new thing for the billionaire, as his daughter called him into her room. Tony eyed his daughter with a sad smile, it didn't seem fair he'd just got her, well it felt that way anyway.

Tawny seemed to pick up on his thoughts, as she always did, and walked gracefully towards him her long white dress fluttering beautifully around her feet, "what do you think daddy?" She whispered when she stood a few inches away.

Tony swallowed the lump that had firmly lodged in his throat, "you're beautiful baby girl, but are you sure you wanna do this? You can wait a few years you know..."

Tawny laughed walking into her father's waiting arms, "you don't have to be so scared daddy I'm not going anywhere."

"I'm just not ready," he sighed holding her close, "I haven't had nearly enough time with you. I'm a selfish guy and now some dude comes in and wants to take my little girl away."

Tawny pulled back looking straight into her father's brown eyes, so like her own, "daddy you're not losing me. We're not going anywhere we're not even leaving the tower!" Tony opened his mouth to interrupt but she cut him off, "when I was little, really small I mean before I found you, I didn't want any of this. I was convinced that marriage and family was just a way for more people to hurt you. I swore I'd never get married, never purposely bring a man into my life that would hurt me."

Tony nodded his head, "that's a good plan, I like that plan."

Tawny laughed lightly at her father's desperate tone, "you changed that, you showed me that some people, even if they're stupid and selfish at times, won't hurt you. You showed me what it was like to be loved and cared for. You showed me what a marriage should be like, you and Pepper. You, Pepper, Reese, all the aunts and uncles, you guys are the best thing that's ever happened to me; I just wanna bring Lucas into that too. We're not going anywhere you're not gonna lose me!"

Only sighed knowing he wasn't going to talk her out of this, and really Pepper would probably kill him if he did. He pulled her into his arms once more holding her as if afraid Luke would stroll in any moment and pull her from his grasp. "I guess it's time to go," he sighed when the music floating up from the wedding outside changed tempo indicating the bride was coming.

They'd hired a landscaper for the wedding, planting a multitude of colorful plants and flowers. It was evening, the sun was moments from disappearing below the horizon. Fairy lights twinkled amongst the flowers lighting the wedding and guests in a soft romantic glow. If they absolutely had to do this, Tony knew it had turned it beautifully and, judging from the soft smile crossing her face, Tawny was pleased.

He walked down the aisle slowly wondering who's bright idea it was to have the father hand over his daughter. Honestly who'd come up with that? And how, he wondered, did so many fathers before him manage to actually do so. Glancing at his daughter it occurred to him that maybe they did it for them, their daughters, because it's what they wanted.

They paused at the end of the aisle, Lucas stood waiting, in a sharp black tux, blue bow tie, and yellow boutonnière. Personally Tony would have gone for red and gold but Tawny's favorite colors were blue and yellow, so they'd gone with that.

Tony realized he hadn't responded to his prompt, everyone was waiting for him to give his daughter away and for the first time in his life he couldn't speak. He stood frozen glaring slightly at Lucas without realizing what he was doing. His eyes strayed to Tawny's and his expression melted, the love between father and daughter evident for their guests to plainly see. "I do," he whispered kissing her forehead, hugging her tightly, and then grudgingly handing her off to Lucas.

He stood still, unwilling to back away, until Pepper pulled his arm, tugging him back next to her with a little laugh. "It's ok Tony, she's going to be fine."

Tony nodded fearing his voice would crack if he tried responding. If you had told him before meeting Tawny that one day he'd give his little girl away and stand back fighting to hide the tears in his eyes he'd have laughed in your face, now he stood doing just that.

Tawny on the other hand had no such inclination. She stood grinning brightly, her gaze focused completely on the man in front of her. A part of her was aware there were hundreds of people staring up at her, but it was a tiny part. As far as Tawny was concerned only one thing existed, only one thing mattered, the man staring lovingly back at her, holding her hands gently in his and promising to love her, protect her, and care for her for the rest of their lives.

Lucas had watched nervously as Tony led his bride up to him. He'd gasped slightly at the sight of her, so grateful to be marrying this woman who made him laugh, she baffled and impressed him she made him proud to belong with her. He'd stifled a laugh at the glare on Tony's face as he'd passed her grudgingly to him, then promised her his heart, promised to love her and protect her and care for her for the rest of his days.

His heart soared when she promised the same in turn. He almost felt the need to glance at Tony for permission when the minister told him he could kiss his bride but stifled the urge.

The pair turned, Tawny nestled in her husband's arms feeling like nothing could harm her. Lucas feeling like he'd been given the best gift in existence, which as far as his father in law was concerned he pretty well had.

Tony eagerly pulled his daughter to him for the father daughter dance, happy to have his little girl to himself again ever for a few moments. "Are you happy little one?" He whispered.

Tawny leaned against her father comfortable in his arms, "so happy," she whispered in return.

When Lucas came to claim her for a dance Tony let her go a little easier, a small smile tugging his lips up. He still wasn't pleased there was someone around who had a claim to his child, but if he made Tawny happy then he was happy. He reached forward hugging Lucas briefly, "welcome to the family Lucas, you better take care of my girl."

Lucas glanced around the room taking note of the smiling faces watching their interaction. Even without iron man threatening him and the presence of the avengers at his wedding he knew he'd love his wife forever, "I give you my word sir," he promised earnestly earning a pleased grin from Tawny.
