❃TAEHYUNG❃
"rise and shine." i mumbled to the small being who was snuggled up in a tiny makeshift bed inside my table drawer.
i was always worried about her suffocating in there.
i was also always hoping that she would.
but of course, since mae was a magical creation she could breathe in any atmosphere. except outer space but i don't think i have the patience to build a spacecraft to send her off.
my thoughts came back to mae who was snoring inaudibly with her mouth wide open, the wings spread out on either side, her hair was silver as of now.
over the few weeks i had lived with mae, i had discovered that her hair would change colour during her sleep. i never tried to figure out what every colour symbolised though.
"yah." i whispered again to make sure my roommate won't freak out over me talking to 'thin air'.
"a light-year," she murmured. "more."
i swear i wished i had mini hands to smack her stupid forehead.
"hell no, you ain't getting no light-year," i hissed softly. "gET UP!"
mae literally flew out of her bed sending kicks to probably-the-dust-particles, cursing in fairy talk.
she stopped her drowsy tantrum and came up to me with her eyes closed and her lips forming a perfectly adorable pout, her hair which was now brown once again, surrounding her hair like a ball of frizz.
"what do you wanttt?" she spoke, dragging the end of her sentence.
"i want you to stop wasting my time," i replied shortly. "now move your sparkly fairy butt if you want us to not be late for class."
i might have heard her complaining.
----
"rotten carrots, practically frozen peas, burnt chicken wings and horribly cooked pasta." mae recited the lunch menu to me while i thought of what to eat.
"why are you guys not provided with kitchens in your dorms? it'd be better than coming all they way down here just to eat decaying food, right?" mae questioned with a frown. since she wanted me to stay 'healthy', she would always complain about how the food in our university was raw or burnt. it wasn't really any of those things but assuming, fairy food standards are high, i let mae continue with her complains.
i ignored the stupid questions she was firing at me and walked over to my usual corner in the cafeteria. i slipped my phone out of my pocket and quickly typed a message.
taehyung: she even talks like you
taehyung: why'd you leave?
i wasn't supposed to hope for a reply. i had no idea what sort of comfort i found in texting a dead person who'd never see what i'm sending.
i felt my chest tighten up with pain. mae, not the fairy who was carefully examining the cream of the pasta, the mae whom i knew, who cared for me, who loved me, who left me. that mae. she was gone, the cops never cared enough to find out about her death being a murder or suicide. mae was a mere university student who wasn't worth caring about. i recalled how they had waved a hand at her body dismissively as if she was some piece of garbage that needed to be removed, mae was much more important. she had saved countless lives with just one smile and a sentences of hers.
she had saved my life with one smile and a sentence of hers.
i wish she hadn't. i wish she hadn't come up to me saying those simple words that healed my heart in a minute. her "i like it when you're happy." was just another thing that would get me attached to something, someone that would ruin me later. and as i had thought, it was.
a small beep from my phone startled me. i never got any messages. not even from my family. i expected this to be some new form of bullying the university kids would have undertaken but, i was shocked to see a reply.
"don't mess up."
a reply from mae's number with the initials 'j.k' underneath.
