The shocking wedding
(Story for Inked_wings)
"I do," Layna said, holding my hand, and staring into my eyes. I looked back, smiling at her, holding her hands tightly.
I was standing at the alter, about to marry the woman of my dreams, Layna, when all of a sudden, these tall men in dark suits barge loudly though the door.
My soon to be wife yanks her hands from mine, turns around, and raised her arms, as the men go flying across the room. They hit the wall with a sickening thud, and fell to the ground, unconscious.
"What??" I scream in confusion, gawking at my almost wife who just threw two men across the room, without even touching them. I thought I knew her, but apparently there was a lot I didn't know.
I backed up, as Layna gave me a cold look. The crowd and the minister screamed and gasped, but she just waved a hand, and everyone was thrown back in their seats, mouths plastered shut like mannequins, eyes staring at us frozen in horror.
"Sweetie," she said, trying to hard to act sweet. "Come here, it's ok."
"Ok??" I yelped. "I thought I knew you! But, but, then what is this?? What are you?"
"Some things I couldn't tell you," she sighed, clearly annoyed. "But for a good reason."
"How is there a good reason to not tell someone you are marrying? " I almost screamed.
"Because!" Layna snapped, staring at me with furious eyes I've never seen on her before. "You are powerful. Not only rich powerful, but you, you have power. Like mine!"
"No I don't!" I backed up, stumbling over something. She ran over with immense speed, and amazing agility even with her obnoxiously fluffy dress, grabbed my shirt collar and almost lifted me clear off of the ground. Seeing no reason why I shouldn't, I kicked her in the shin, and she dropped me. I scrambled away, standing behind a pew.
"I don't really want to hurt you," she said sternly. "Being with a person that long does that to you."
"Explain to me," I yelled over to her, trying to think of something to do, and to distract her. "What do you mean I have power?"
"Ah, power, " she said, a jealous gleam in her eye as she looked into mine. "You posses much of it. You just haven't found it yet," she explained, her saying it made it sound rather simple, but to me, sounding insane.
"I want your power!" She exclaimed. "And the only way i was going to get it was if we were married. The bond between us would make me able to drain you of your very soul, giving me every ounce of your power, mine to do whatever I wish. Those men," she pointed to the one in the dark suits, "they knew, they somehow figured it out. But you see, they couldn't stop me if they tried." Her voice went high, then back low. "Now my wish is to own this earth. You see, my earth is just getting boring. I conquered it ages ago, and everyone already follows me. Now I get to do it all over again!" With a furious shriek, she launched herself over the pews, landing softly on one knee in the row I stood. She slowly stood up, ripping off the head veil she had on, throwing it on the ground as she walked over it.
"I'm going to have to forcefully make you give it to me," she said, in an almost gleeful tone.
I tried to speak, but only a squeak came out. She laughed maniacally. "Speechless! I know. You are petrified. Quaking in your skin as you can't move from the spot, watching as I ever so slowly walk towards you, and you know this is the end."
What she said was almost true. It was true I was speechless, quaking, and somehow unable to move. But I didn't believe it was the end. I didn't wasn't it to be the end. It would not be the end. I needed to escape, and hide somewhere. No, she would find me, so I needed to end her. It felt wrong, but she wanted to kill me, make everyone slaves and take over the whole freaking planet, who knows what else. Heck, she wasn't even human. I would be doing everyone a favor.
Right before she reached me, I slid down, and snatched the lace head veil, slung it around her legs, tripping her. She screamed in fury as I jumped over the pew, over the next one, and kept going making my way to the exit. But then I stopped. In mid air, not able to move a muscle. Cold swept through my body, crawling up my legs and down my arms, slowly spreading up my chest. Only my face didn't feel cold.
"I didn't want to go do this," she yelled. I was turned around, and I saw her arm outstretched, making me slowly head back to her. I tried to move again, but I couldn't. No matter what I did, my body seemed fully unresponsive, seemingly frozen.
"Horrible feeling, huh?" She droned. "If you would have just cooperated, it would have been much nicer."
I have her a horrible glare, and she laughed. "No looks will stop me!" She continued laughing. Her laugh rang in my head. It was a horrible, vile, and obnoxious. It annoyed me, but angered me. I felt the rage building in my stomach as I desperately tried to escape again. This time I astonishingly found out I could move my fingers. Ever so slowly, the cold went down a bit, jerked back up, then went further back down. I noticed she had slowly stopped laughing, and was now trying to hold me. Maybe I did have some power; I was holding her off, which apparently, she was holding me with magic, so I must be using some against her. But how? How did I have it? I couldn't think of that right now. I needed to get out.
It seemed I was winning. The cold had almost all seeped away. Layna was clearly struggling, trembling, and going between red a white in the face. There was a sound of shattering glass, and I fell to the floor, as Layna was thrown back by some invisible force.
"I told you," she growled. "I told you you had power!"
"I'm glad," I shouted. "Now I can stop you!" I'd seen what she had before, used some sort of telekinesis, so I decided to try that. I raised my hand, aimed at a burning candle that was in someone's hand. A wave of pain shot through my head, but I pushed through, and slowly the candle started to move.
"No!" Layna shrieked. The candle was moving faster now, and she couldn't duck out of the way as it hit her. She gasped as her dress, apparently very flammable, burst into flame and began creeping up towards her.
Taking the advantage, I rush onstage to the minister. I had a plan, and he needed to be in it. But Layna froze him somehow... Maybe I could undo it. I layed a hand on him, and instantly pain splintered up my arm, and it was being wretched like a force trying to break it. I pulled away my, arm throbbing.
Looking behind me at Layna, I saw she had almost gotten all the flames out. I had to do it. Biting my lip, I pressed both hand on the ministers arms, and cried out as unbearable pain bore into them. I held fast though, concentrating and pouring every ounce of energy I had into him. I was thrown to the ground, and the minister fell beside me. He looked at me with panicked eyes.
"No!" Layna screeched.
"I do. Now say it!" I urged the minister, forcing him to his feet.
"Wha-" he rasped
"Say you are husband and wife," I said through gritted teeth, drops of sweat running down my face. I turned to see Layna batting out the final flame, and look at us with hatred in her eyes. Her chest fell up and down, and she slouched, clearly exhausted. But she wasn't done yet. She started towards us.
Turning to the minister, I said again. "Say it!" He just managed to say the words, "You are now husband and wife," when Layna streaked up, grabbed him by the neck, and threw him back over the pews. I stared in horror as he lay on the floor, most assuredly dead.
Layna now ran towards me, but right before she grabbed me, I twisted, sheer determination in my eyes, and grabbed her arms tightly. She gasped as I felt something. Something I hoped would happen. I could feel an urge of energy coming off of her. Still holding tightly to her arms, I used my power to snag the urge. It worked. I began to drain her power. Like she had wanted to do to me, but instead, I was the one doing it. She gasped, jerking and going limp. I kept going, until I had drained all of her power, then I let her go. She fell to the floor, as new power surged through me. I lifted up my hands, examining them. I could do so much more now, not including the things I didn't know I could do. I could feel it, somehow I knew my new power, what I could do with it. Things rushed through my head...
Hearing a groan, I looked back down. Layna was softly whimpering, wiping her eyes with her hands. Sitting up, I saw her eyes glistening with tears. She almost looked broken, helpless, and weirdly enough; sorry. A single tear fell down her cheek, as she wiped it away and sniffed.
"Why.." She said, chocking up, looking up at me with watery eyes. "Why did you spare me?" She asked roughly. "You know I wouldn't have done that for you."
I knelt down, following the look in her pitiful eyes. "I don't want to be like you. I showed compassion of not taking every ounce of your energy. You have no power, but you can have a life now. You can go on, without hurting anyone now. Do some good, find some friends. Start over. "
She looked away, sobbing even more. "You're just going to let me go? Just like that?" She questioned.
"People deserve a second chance," I murmured standing up, looking over the crowd of people staring at us. I wondered what I was going to do once I unfroze them. I heard a shuffle as Layna slowly got up, drying her face. Walking towards the exit, she called back, "use mind compulsion on them." Then she was gone.
I turned around, not wanting to deal with the people right now. What would I do with my new power? I could do something big. I could learn how to use it, then join the army or something. I could do a lot of good there with my powers. But, in the first place, how do I have this power? Layna mentioned something about a planet she came from, but I couldn't be from that. Or could i? I did have almost the same powers she did. That's what I was going to do. I'm going to find the origin of my powers. I'm going to find out how I have them, and where I got them.
Quickly figuring out how to help everyone in the pews, I walked out of the church with a smile of contentment in my face. I was ready for the new adventures I was going on.
