Nathan nearly collapsed and his body shuddered when the door opened, as his eyes registered exactly what he was seeing. He heard Jackie give a sharp gurgled gasp behind him.
Now, exactly what he was seeing, was in short, a man. But this was no simple man. He had been tracking Nathan and Jackie ruthlessly as they struggled to get away. But wherever they went, no matter the measures they took to prevent him from following, the man had always found them. They had always gotten away, due to a small advantage of the power that Nathan had. For now, they had wanted to hide at his uncle's house, since his uncle could protect them. Something must have happened.
"You didn't think I would find you, did you?" She smoothness and calm in his voice made a shiver crawl down Nathan's back. The man seemed a little to calm. He was always like this, and it brought an uneasiness in the air.
"What did you do to him??" Nathan demanded of the man. The man smiled and leaned against the doorway causally. He looked off into the sky.
"Nothing to harmful." His eyes flicked to meet Nathan's for a split second to enjoy the fear in them.
"I'm going to..." Nathan grolwed.
"What?" The man interrupted, with a burst of enthusiasm, standing up stright. "Beat me? Send me away? Destroy me??" He laughed, then his smile disappeared. "You'd be the one destroyed if it weren't for your pesky ability." He stared Nathan right in the eyes.
"You can't run forever." He said darkly. "There'll always be someone chasing you, on your heels, wanting a taste of what you have. Until you give up, you'll always have that constant terror wighing on your chest. Always be running, never given a break, for you know if you stop, someone will catch up."
They stood in silence. Nathan could barely breath because of the intense eyes of the man, and the terror in his chest. He could hear Jackie breathing heavily behind him. The words of the man settled in his brain. He would always be running if he didn't choose to submit to anyone. Constant terror and horror would always be with him, weighing him down, tiring him out. But he couldn't give up. It wasn't right. Jackie didn't deserve it either. Who knows what they would do to her. He had to keep running, for himself, but for her.
Nathan looked back up to the man, looking him firmly in the eyes.
"I will never give up to you." He did confidently, in a bold voice.
The man sighed, folding his arms. "Why does everyone choose the hard way." Uncrossing his arms, he reached inside his jacket, pulling out a gun contraption. It looked like a normal gun, except it had a longer barrel, and a strange flat coiled thing that bubbled liquid on top.
"Last. Chance." He said sternly, aiming the gun straight at Nathan's head.
"No." Nathan said fiercely.
The man laughed an irritable laugh. He looked away for a second, breathed out, and when he looked back, he immediately fired. That split second of not focusing his attention on Nathan, he had dropped down. Then he realized his horrible error.
"Jackie!" He screamed, a terrible horrified scream. A thing like a dart, but much larger, had shot out of the gun, implanting itself on Jackie's right arm. She gave a short scream, then collapsed, hopefully only unconscious. Nathan looked at her, then the man. He needed to get her away.
"Oops, seems I missed." The man said, not seeming to care in the least.
"You." Nathan growled. He lept at the man. He didn't see it coming as Nathan slammed him into the wall. And that did it. Just by touching the man, he had used his power. Once Nathan touched someone, he could make it so darkness clouded their vision, and they become blind for about an hour.
Nathan had touched the man, knocking the gun out of his hand. He felt a small amount of energy leave him as he used it to blind the man.
"You little rat!" The man screeched. He stumbled around, lashing out at anything he could. He kicked the porch railing, then tripped, sending him sprawling onto the lawn. Nathan lept back. He heaved Jackie up, since she was considerably light, onto his back, and with fear fueling his body, he set off running down the road.
