A Halloween Gathering
Mallory woke up to rain pounding fiercely on her windows. Glancing at her nightstand clock, it said it was 6:53. She sighed, getting out of bed to get ready for school. She wasn't particularly happy about today. It was the schools Halloween day. Halloween was Saturday, so they were having it today, Friday. Mallory didn't really like Halloween. The spiritual stuff made her uneasy, and she didn't like being scared. Getting dressed up seemed a bit awkward to. But her friends liked it. So she went along them, not wanting to put a dampener on their fun.
Mallory got dressed, putting on a shirt that had a pumpkin and a little ghost that said 'boo'. Black pants, a orange and black flannel tied around her waist, and black converse. She left her hair down, then grabbed her backpack as she headed downstairs. She ate breakfast, then waited for the bus by the door. Gazing outside, the saw the rain had slowed to a light drizzle.
The bus alerted Mallory with its screech to a stop. She grabbed her backpack, running out the door. Getting on, going to the row her friends were in. She squished herself at the end, sitting her backpack by her feet. Now it was a hard thing to get four 15 and 16 year olds on one bus chair, but they did it.
"Hi!" Mallory said to her friends. Her friends were, Jake, Jonathan , and Lexi. Jake and Jonathan were both outgoing, but Jake was the more clownish one, and Jonathan the more practical one. Lexi was quiet, and always laughed when any of the others did something stupid. They had been friends for about 5 years, and they did almost everything together.
"Hey," Jonathan said, who was jammed in his spot, next to the window. They greeted each other.
"Ok," Jake said, quieting everyone. "Tomorrow night, my house, we're doing a sleepover."
"Yes!" Jonathan said, grinning.
"Halloween?" Lexi asked.
"Yep, and its Halloween themed. We'll do spoopy stuff." Jake said. "Is everyone good for that?"
"I'm free," Jonathan said.
"Me to." Lexi seconded.
"Yea," Mallory said.
"Good." Jake said. "And to make it fun, come in costumes."
"Do we have to?" Mallory fake whined.
"Yes!" Jake insisted. "It wouldn't be much of a Halloween party if we didn't dress up."
"Fine," Mallory sighed.

Mallory had just gotten home from school. It had be seen decorated top to bottom with Halloween stuff; fake spiderwebs, little foam pumpkins, plastic spiders, and decals of scratch marks down the wall. And someone had put fake blood on Mallory's locker, and was 100% sure it was Jake by the way he snickered. When she had come out of science class, some kid in a zombie had scared her by jumping out.
Mallory combed through her closet, wondering what she should dress up as. She suddenly had an idea seeing her jacket. She ran throughout the house, grabbing the things she needed and setting them on her chair.
🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃
It was the next day, nearing seven thirty. Mallory had already packed her bag. Now all, she needed was to get in costume. Brown pants, black leather boots, black gloves, black shirt, black leather jacket, and a belt and crowsbow she took from her brothers Chewbacca costume, and viola! Diy vampire hunter costume. Earlier she had taken sticks from outside and sharpened them, putting them in the belt which she slung over her shoulder under the jacket. Then she took a cord, and tied it to the crossbow so she could put that over her other shoulder. And for added look, she put her hair in a ponytail, along with red lipstick and black eye shadow.
Mallory picked up her back, and walked out of her room, shutting the door on the way out.
"I'm going now mom!" She yelled upstairs, who she knew was getting her little brother ready for trick or treating.
"Have fun!" She heard her mom yell back downstairs, after scolding her brother for 'messing up the crayon.'
Mallory chuckled, going out the front door. Jake's house was two blocks away from hers, so she just decided to walk. Looking at her watch, she saw it was almost eight. The sun was almost set, and a breeze had blown in. Going down the street, she saw kids already walking about, dressed in all assortments of costumes. A kid in a cat costume gave her a strange look as she passed by. Mallory just smiled.
She was thinking, when suddenly the light in the yard next to her flickered twice before turning on. Mallory jumped, then heard a lady in the yard complaining about the light.
Scared by a light Mallory thought to herself, shaking her head. Finally, she reached Jake's house. Stepping onto the porch, she rang the doorbell and waited. The door was yanked open, and a werewolf Jake yelled 'boo!'
"Ahh..." Mallory said, unenthuastickly with a smile.
"Nice costume," Jake said, stepping aside and holding the door for Mallory.
"Thanks," Mallory said, stepping in.
"Everyone is in my room." Jake said, closing the door.
"Alright," Mallory said, heading up the stairs, Jake following. She went left when the stairs ended, going into Jake's room.
"Oh no!" Jonathan said laughing when she came in. Mallory saw him sitting on the floor, and he was dressed as a vampire. Not the old fashioned type though. Black pants, shirt, boots, with pale face paint, fake teeth, black around the eyes and red running down his mouth
"What are the odds," he said.
"I shall slay thee!" Mallory said in a dramatic voice.
"Aahhgg," Jonathan clutched his chest, falling onto the floor. Jake laughed loudly, and Lexi rolled her eyes. Lexi was dressed as a ghost, having white flowy clothes on, and white face paint.
"You guys are ridiculous," she said, shaking her head.
"I know," Jonathan said, popping back up.
"I noticed its quiet, are your parents here?" Lexi asked Jake.
"Nope. They took my little sister and are staying at my uncles house."
"Oh cool, so we have the house to ourselves," Jonathan said.
"So do you guys want to watch a movie?" Jake asked.
"Ooh yes!" Lexi said excitedly.
They went downstairs, piling on the couch. Jake loaded the movie. It was a scary movie, and Mallory couldn't tear her eyes away.
"We're going to get a snack, keep it playing." Jonathan whispered, as him and Jake went to the kitchen. Mallory barely noticed, but mumbled an ok.
"Going to the bathroom." Lexi said quietly, which Mallory also only mumbled to.
Mallory gasped when the person in the movie got stabbed, and looked around to see her friends reactions. Only, they weren't there. Mallory realized that they had been gone for a while now. She was focused on the movie, that she didn't realize how long it had been.
"Guys?" She said, but hearing nothing in reply. She grabbed the remote and paused the show. Slowly, she stood up, dropping the remote back onto the couch
"Jonathan? Lexi?" She said, a lot louder. "Jake?" Still, no reply. She walked over to the kitchen, and saw no one in there. Mallory cursed under her breath.
"You guys are idiots!" She yelled. Again, no response. "I can't belive this," Mallory said, a shaky feeling setting on her frame. She headed back to the living room. She almost stumbled, because they had turned the lights off to watch the movie. The TV had provided light, but now gaze fell on the TV, which was switched off. She hadn't switched it off. Taking a shaky breath, she lied to herself saying that the TV probably turned off after a minute.
Mallory headed for the stairs, when she heard a thump behind her. Whipping her head around, she saw nothing. She stood there, unblinking, her eyes darting over the room. Turning back around, she sprinted upstairs. She started to go down the hall to Jake's room. The hall lights were turned off, but his room light was on, so she followed that. Mallory came to an abrupt halt when she saw someone walk out of Jake's room.
"Guys!" She said. But she noticed this person was much taller than any of her friends. It had its back turned, casting a shadow that splayed beside it and crept up the wall. It turned, and she noticed it wasn't a man at at. Hairy and dressed in ripped clothes, she saw it was a werewolf. Its yellow eyes flashed at her. She dropped to the ground, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her face. She heard a loud howl, then silence. She kept her eyes shut for a minute, before opening them. The werewolf was gone. Suddenly, sounds like nails clawimg on the walls and fists pounding echoed from down the hall.
Mallory staggered to her feet, almost falling down the stairs in an attempt to get down. She ran towards the front door, but stopped short when she saw a floating, glowing translucent figure in front of the door. The auroa of it's body flared, and a shock of cold air hit her. She gasped, turning and taking off towards the back of the hous. She tripped, smacking her hand and knees on the floor. Getting up, and srill running, she was nearing the back door, when it burst open by itself. Mallory skidded to a halt, her hand finding the corer of the kitchen table which she held on to. Steppimg in from outside was a figure dressed in black, smiling ominously while blood dripped out of the corners of its mouth. A vampire.
Mallory screamed, which only made the vampire smile, flashing off its teeth. She backed up, until she hit the wall next to the table. The vampire stalked up to her, slamming its hand on the table, leaning its head forward. Mallory quickly grabbed a piece of wood off her costume, stabbing it into the hand. The vampire let out a cry of anguish, slamming his other hand on the table in fury, sending a crack across it. It ran out the door.
Mallory stood, right against the wall, her chest falling and rising rapidly. Then she ran over, slamming shut the door and locking it. Turning around, she saw three figures in the doorway. She yelled, whipping out another piece of wood.
"Chill!" The voice said, flicking on the light. There stood Jake, Jonathan and Lexi.
"Surpise?" Jake said in a squeaky questionable voice, looking at her frizzy hair, clenched jaw, and jaggy stuck she was clutching.
"That was you guys?!" Mallory said, dropping the stick.
"Yea, just us," Lexi said.
Mallory let out a long sigh. She was in unbelief, and let out chuckle.
"The gh9st was pretty good," Jake said.
"No it wasn't," Lexi said. "The strings holding the sheet were obviously visible."
"Sure scared the crap out of me," Mallory said.
"Aha! See!" Jake said. Mallory just smiled. But she couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't just a prank. It felt way more realistic than just a prank.
